How to retrieve RGB info of a transparent background in a .PNG?

Hi,
I often render images in a 3D-CAD software. These images can be written as .PNG (24 bits I guess) with the alpha channel/transparency included. But sometimes I wish to expose the RGB information "behind" the transparent pixels. I know the information is there, since I've seen it in the past in another image-viewer. Is there a secret button to reveal the layer information of the background? I searched for a long time for this, but cannot find any answer so far. Anybody knows if this is possible in PS?

The transparency is kept with the image as a separate layer. As long as the erasure through the image layer has not been 100%, the RGB values are indeed intact. When the erasure (resulting in transparency) is 100%, the pixels are changed to white.
Chris' method works like a charm, but you're right, it's CS5 only.
You could also duplicate the layer then merge together to increase the opacity. Do this enough times in a row (e.g., on an 8 bit image, 8 or more times) and you'll reach 100% opacity.
I've written you a quick action to do the job either way. The second method should work in older Photoshop versions, and also allows you to go back in the History and select a step where only some of the transparency is removed.

Open this zip, and (with later versions of Photoshop) double click the .atn file to load it into the Actions palette of Photoshop.
Make your Actions palette visible by selecting Window - Actions from the menu.
Make your partially transparent image current, then run the "Remove Transparency 2" action by first clicking once on the name "Remove Transparency 2" to highlight it, then clicking the little triangular > play button at the bottom of the Actions palette. It will run through a number of steps and leave you with an opaque image.

that is correct. You open it in AI and you have an option to use area text, you first take the text tool and drag to make a text frame, which wors like it does in a layout program. Or you click the text tool any where on the canvas and just start typing if you want to make another line you either hit the return (enter) key or for soft return use shift/return (enter).
The default is a transparent background.
All art i Illustrator is on a transparent background unless you add an object behind other objects that has a fill color.

If you can't get the PNG file export to work, you can export a pdf and open it in Photoshop, from there you can save it as whatever you like.

Retrieve them using and LDAP Search via DBMS_LDAP. Or you could cheat and search the ODS schema tables directly which contain all of the LDAP info. See the DS_ATTRSTORE table. Pull all attributes with a name like "mail"

For transparency to work, you need to save it in a format that has an alpha channel. Not sure if FCE supports the Animation codec but if it does you'll want your material as "millions of colors +". The "+" means Alpha.

How do I ensure that a semi-transparent background stays that way when converting a pptx file to PDF

I can't seem to get a semi-transparent background image when converting to PDF file. Every time I try it - the image converts to a full color - zero transparency background, muting out the text on the page.

Try something like the following:
(click on the screenshots below for larger views)
1. Select the Magic Wand and set the same settings in the tool options bar as shown below.
Click on the white area outside the yellow circle with the magic wand tool.
2. Go to Select>Modify>Expand and enter 1
3. Go to Edit>Cut
4. Go to Image>Trim and check Transparent Pixels
5. Go to File>Save For Web and choose PNG-24 with Transparency checked

Changing transparency background color on PNG thumbnails??

Okay so I don't know if this is possible but I would like to be able to change the transparency color on my PNG file thumbnails. Right now the background is black but when I open the file it is white in iphoto or transparent in adobe. It's not a HUGE deal but it does kind of suck when the image itself is black and then I can't tell what the image actually looks like just by looking at the thumbnails. Any help would be great!! Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The color that the transparency displays if a function of the application displaying the file and, in iPhoto, is set by iPhoto. It's just the nature of the beast. You can put in a feature request at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Actually I did understood your question. I did say that some of that info is available from the hard drive file system.
Use the Object Browser and find this source:
public System.DateTime CreationTime { set; get; }
Member of System.IO.FileSystemInfo
Looking at the properties you'll see all the info you are looking for is there. As I said, some of the info is available from the Summary API's and some are available from the file system. The file system is not CR but basic Microsoft API's. Search their help for more info on how to use them.

How to retrieve Font info using JDK

I am wondering how I can find as much info about a font as I can using JDK. I can use
GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getAllFonts();
to retrieve the Font object, and get its name, family, that's pretty much of it. There is getAttributes, but I am not sure how it works. If I want to know such info as the folder containing a particular font, the font's foundry, etc， I don't know how to get them.
Anyone can point me to a right direction and maybe I can take from there.

How to make an object with a transparent background

i know this should be simple, but my use of photoshop has really fallen off and i can't recall how to do this.
i have masked an object from a jpg file and pasted it into a new document created with background contents transparent and i do have the checkered background. yet, when i save this document, the background appears to be filled in with white. is it really white or is it really transparent. i even created a second layer to paste the object into and saved as a pdf, but the same thing happens.
if i flatten the image, the background also becomes white.
basic stuff, i know, but i don't remember and the help isn't helping me.

Tiff supports transparency and is a widely-accepted format. You may want to try giving the printer that format.
Gif and png can only be saved if you're using RGB images. If they are not RGB, then save as TIFF and you should be fine.
If you actually are missing a bunch of plug-ins and/or file format options, it's possible that they have somehow been deleted. You'd have to reinstall Photoshop to get them back, or copy the contents of the plug-ins folder from another computer. SFW is a plug-in that resides within an import/export folder in the plug-ins folder, so it does sound like you are missing some things that need to be re-installed.

I am working on a small action scene and i am trying to import pre keyed muzzle flask without the black background.
i tryied everything : saving the link to the desktop as " save file as" , making the the optimize video box is unchecked, show advance tools under preferences, i tried different free site like footagecrate, detonation film and so forth. I even made sure all softwares were up to date. Finally i watch all the import video tutorials on youtube and the apple site... i am following all the steps but all footage have the dark background.
I'm really stuck if anybody can help

I did use it for some projects, but most material from Detonation Films isn't pre-keyed.
the few clips I used are simply 'on black' which allows in advanced editors like FC/e to apply a simple luma-key.
for usage in iM, the 'boom!' has to be on blue or green to apply a color-key, like this example:
or, the material contains an alpha-key, then the .mov has to be encoded in some format which does support alpha-keys, as 'Animation'.

A very odd result...removing the app should not touch the actual backup files, unless perhaps you allowed the backup files to store in the same folders on your computer as the app itself (bad practice under any circumstances).
As with anything deleted, restoration depends on having a source. If you were backing up your computer, then your source should be there. Depending on the method the backup files were deleted with, they may be in the computer Recycle Bin. Depending on how long it's been since you deleted the files, you may be able to procure some file recovery software for your computer (be quick...the longer you wait, the more likely the files cannot be recovered).
Basically, this is a computer problem...not a BB problem.
