when trying to download photos from my iphone to my macbook, i accidently erased all the contents on my iphone in exchange for my husband's latest iPod backup!! How to I get my info back onto my iPhone???
iTunes keeps separate backups per device. If you restored phone from the backup of your husband's touch, & did not make a backup first, the data is gone. Look: iTunes>Preferences>Devices...your iOS device backups will be listed here.

Turn off your wifi, when the device comes up you have a very short window to go to settings, Wifi , turn off wifi before it will sync with iCloud; literally...you have to beat the clock.
Either that, or reset the password to your iCloud account so your device CAN'T sync with it -
How to reset iTunes backup configuration for iPad and iPhone?
After buying a new Mac, I migrated my settings (because there were w a lot of apps) and generally everything's working. Except when I try to sync my iPad or iPhone, I get the following error:
iTunes could not backup the (device) ... because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPad
A few notes
It does work with a new account, just not this one, so there's some setting somewhere that probably needs to go
I did repair disk permissions
I tried to reset preferences via mv *iTunes* to a backup folder in <user>/Library/Preferences
There are no backups on this machine (if you go to iTunes / Settings / Devices the "device backups" list is empty)
It still feels like something is pointing somewhere invalid, but I have no idea how to reset it.The problem turned out to be a symlink to a folder that pointed nowhere where the backups were stored.
I seriously doubt many people are going to run into this issue, but hey, there you go, another thing to watch out for are symlinks if you transfer your settings to a new machine.
The reason before was that I was clearing out space on a SSD, and backups took up enough room. -

Metalink note seems more appropriate but this should be confirmed by Oracle support. -
How to transfer itunes backup to laptop then to ipod?
Hi
After recent hard drive failure I transferred backed up contents of itunes from external hard drive to itunes on new laptop by dragging & dropping. This appeared to work at first then in the left hand column exclaimation marks appeared and when I tried to play them a message came up saying something like couldn't find route of music. Next day all exclaimation marks gone and could play on laptop. Today, tried to sync with ipod and loads of exclaimation marks have appeared again and only a fraction of contents have transferred to iphone and majority of itunes contents is unplayable.
What's happening and how can I sort it? I still have the back up on external hard drive.

SueHi Thanks for this. I've obviously done something wrong whilst following the instructions as my itunes library on laptop has been wiped, including apps and all purchased items.
All that was imported was a list of folders from my backup but with no content.
Any advice on getting this stuff back and adding backed up music?

I only have this problem because I'm really stupid, so.. Take it easy.
The thing is that I had and iPhone and it got stolen. Now I purchased another one and I can't restore the backup from the other iPhone because I encrypted the thing and I can't remember the password. I read some online tutorials that said if you put some code you can access the information and discover the password. The thing is that I'm not finding where to put de God **** code !
So if you know somenthing, PLEASE, let me know.

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer. -

How do I download an app I previously had on an older device, not utilizing my cloud or itunes backup. I want to download the app as new as if I had never had it before. When I go to the app store, it only gives me the option of downloading from the cloud with the cloud icon?
When you download something from the iCloud, it is a brand new licensed copy. Your iCloud account just contains a notation that you have this app. It isn't storing an actual copy of the app from your Mac.

I did not authorize 2 in app purchases and because my credit card is at its limit, and i dont know how to reverse the in app purchases, i cannot update any app or do just about anything in the appstore or itunes store. I dont care if i owe apple's itunes appstore a few dollars over 2 in app purchases i never meant to download in fact the whole app itself i wanted to delete...but out of the hundreds (maybe lower thousands) fof dollars in music and apps and whatever else, that i rightfully purchased over the passed couple of years....should *NOT* have the upgrades and/or previous purchased songs withheld from me over $3 in accidently purchased add ons through an existing app i deleted an disliked anyway

- Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.

I think you will find that you have to have a debit/credit card stored on yur account regardless of whether your have iTunes Credit or want to purchase a free App. I don't know why, I assume its for ID verification or is part of the terms and conditions. I occasionally have to re-verify my credit card info even when just trying to run Update on one of my Apps or like I said downloading a free App.
