How to reverse type (white on black background) in Pages?

Does anyone know if it's possible to reverse type (white type over a black bar) in Pages, and how to do it? I've been trying for a while, but can't get it to work.

Pages (any version) is not a word clone, and may not digest Word documents as accurately as their native Microsoft application. Pages v5 is also far from feature/functionality complete, and that only compounds this issue.
Suggest you download/install the free LibreOffice and open the Word documents with it. Do the artifacts persist in LibreOffice?

I use CS5 with Silver Efex Pro v2, but again, without seeing an example of what you're seeing or what you want to achieve, it's difficult to suggest what specific technique will get you what you want using Photoshop alone.
I'm sure some combination of Luminosity Mask, Levels/Curves/Contrast Adjustment Layers would probably give you what you want, but if the Silver Efex Presets, perhaps with some tweaking/customization, give you what you want, and the speed, or lack thereof, is not a problem, well, just stick with what you have!
And as Duotone and Lundberg have pointed out, there are alternatives to Siver Efex; I'm sure you could download a 30 day trial of those packages to play with and see if they meet your needs.

The inboxes for my 2 email accounts on my Motorola Droid [not my gmail account] show with white text and black or grey background. Is there someway I can reverse this so that the text is black and the backgrounds are either whiter or grey? [The gmail account appears the way I want it: black text and white or grey background]. Have you tried removing the email accounts and then readding them? Sometimes this helps with resetting them in case a setting was set up wrong from your email accounts when you first added them.

How do i add video over black background in iMovie '11

The video over black is easy enough. Just add a black bacground and use Picture-In-Picture to add your video.

White vs black background in books

Is this controlable or is it dictated by the book?

In the Nook and Kindle android apps, you can control the background through the settings. The Kindle does it throught the fonts button and the Nook button is in the settings. The black background sure goes a long way in keeping a sleeping spouse happy.

I wanted to send my sister a birthday greeting, so I spent some time printing one out thinking I would hold it up next to me and take a photo to send her. However the type on the birthday greeting is reversed or mirrored and reads backwardss. How can I set Photo Booth so the type is not reversed and reads normally?

I have a photo from Google and I want to make it the background of my document on Pages, but I can't figure out how. How do you do it? Thanks!

One way is to create a text box. Then you can arrange the image to the back, text to front.
Another way is to convert from word processing to page layout mode (accessed through File > Convert to Page Layout). The image can then be sent to the back.

How can I prevent white screen flash before loading page?

Hi, I have a serious issue with this macbook including versions from mountain lion to maverick (now).
THe problem is stated in the title.
Sometimes when I load the next page, it would flash white then loads the page. It hurts my eyes to see this happen often. Sometimes it loads it with the websites background, sometimes it doesn't and uses safari's white blank page.
I have disabled extensions and restarted safari and the computer with them off - it doesn't help or change or prevent it.
I have switched the "open with new blank page" to other options as well with extensions off - it still didn't help.
Please help me resolve this issue as every night it gives me eyes surprises of white flashes.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Black background with white ink

Hi Everyone,
I'm pretty new at designing and one of my friends requested for me to do a business card. I have a few problems with it: 1) the black background is not showing up when I click preview or save as .pdf file. How do I make sure the black background will show? 2) the white ink needs to be done on the black background (black business cards with white text). I want to make sure I cover all my steps so the printing turns out great.

You need to specify what printing method you are preparing for. For offset printing, you usuallly don't print the white; you print the black around the white. But nowadays, business cards are done in a variety of printing methods, including for example, screen printing onto plastic cards. Screen printing can print opaque white ink onto a colored substrate. "Gold" could mean anything from a Pantone metallic spot color (offset) to gold foil (letterpress) to an opaque screen ink (screen printing).
If you don't know, just forget the background, prepare the white elements as solid black (100%K, not a so-called "rich black"), and communicate the printing color to the printer.

you don't export a movie from motion, you save the file and the rendering is then handled by FCP.

Creating Reverse Type in InDesign CS2

Working with InDesign CS2 - not sure how to reverse type. PM7 had an option under Type Style to reverse type (change to white to show in a black box).
Unable to find such a feature in InDesign CS2. How is type reversed in InDesign CS2? Only way I've seen is to select the type and color it white (color selection not easy for type it seems). Is there an easy, quick way to reverse type in InDesign CS2?

Above and beyond Ken's factual answer... it's not easy because it's robust. You can do so much more with type color in ID than you can in another app where there's just a "reverse type" checkbox. In fact, pretty much across the board, ID is more robust, so if you really need a way to change color of text, there are at least three or four different ways to do so, some more automated than others, and if the multitude of options still isn't enough, you can write a Javascript or Applescript or VB script to do it for you.
But no, there's no particular setting for "reverse type" unless you make one yourself. I'd suggest a character style with a keyboard shortuct.

Reversed type looks "bold" on new iMac

I just bought a new iMac (specs below) and immediately noticed that reversed type (white type on dark background) in Safari and Firefox definitely looks "bold" for a lack of a better word. This is in comparison to the 3 CRT monitors around our home/office.
This is my first LCD so I can't compare it to another but I can't say that I've noticed this weirdness on any LCD I've ever seen including my wife's Powerbook.
It could be related to the way these browsers render reversed fonts because reversed fonts embeded in images (photoshop, jpgs, etc) look as you would expect. I suppose it could also be related to recent iMac graphic card issues?
Anyone else notice this bold reversed type effect on the new iMac? or any other LCD for that matter.

I don't think it has anything to do with the LCD, but I've definitely seen similar weird effects that seem to be related to "font smoothing." Try fiddling with the settings at the bottom of System Preferences > Appearance. Also, the (freeware) TinkerTool.app from www.bresink.com provides a wider range of control on minimum smoothed font size. (IMO, all of Bresink's products are A++ quality software.)
Fonts drive me nuts, but I understand that Leopard may change things -- hopefully, for the better.
