How to rip with a pc station

I just installed my mac osx server 10.6.8 to gain speed via a network. I have 3 IMac and a PC. I need the pc to RIP my job for printing. Before my data were on a DROBO FS. I cannot rip via the server but still can on the drobo. Can somebody help me. The only alternative I was suggested was to copy files on the PC and then rip them. Funny but hard to manage also if I want to keep a rip log i can't put them on the server cause the rip log mention only where the native file were. If i copy this file on the server it won't open the next time.

You'll probably end up splitting this question into file-services component — which is something that the folks around here might be more familiar with and might be able to help with — and the particular requirements and limitations of the particular (I presume?) raster image printing software that's running on the Microsoft Windows system, the latter of which would be best addressed to the vendor of that package, or with a Microsoft forum.
As a starting point, please post the identity of the RIP package and its version, the Microsoft Windows version, and a few of the error message(s) or diagnostics that you're receiving in the logs, and if and how the file shares are configured on OS X.
It'd be typical to configure SMB/CIFS file-services storage services on the OS X system — both OS X client and OS X Server can share via this Microsoft protocol — and then connect the share via Microsoft Windows and its Windows Explorer tool; the Windows version of the OS X Finder tool. Windows will probably need its security settings downgraded to operate with the Samba SMB/CIFS server found on 10.6.8, or with the Apple Windows File Services found on 10.7 and later. This configuration via the Server Admin.app tool on 10.6.8.
Services from the OS X Server to the Windows box will probably be limited by the speed of the network connection; unless the particular Drobo is unusually slow, I wouldn't expect OS X or OS X Server or the Drobo to show notable differences in file services performance. The network will be the performance bottleneck.
As it's a fairly common omission when working with OS X Server (or most other servers, these days), you will very likely need DNS services working either on or for the OS X Server system, and you cannot reference ISP or off-network DNS servers here; when you're running a server or authentication on a NAT'd network.
To verify local DNS on the OS X Server box, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities folder and issue the following command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
Entry of an administrative password will be required for the sudo command. You'll get back a message that DNS is valid and no changes are required, or an indication there are DNS or network errors and a reconfiguration is needed.
FWIW, OS X Server 10.6.8 is very old. 10.8.4 is current, and 10.9 Mavericks has been discussed by Apple. I'd suggest using a newer version. 10.8 is current, 10.7 has support and is seeing updates, and 10.6 largely doesn't. When 10.9 arrives, 10.7 will probably fall off of support, if past practices and tradition are any guide.

How to control an Apple Base Station with 3rd-party wireless card?

I recently upgraded my early 2004 Power Mac G5 2GHz DP to the 802.11n standard using a Newertechnology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless PCI Adapter to communicate with my new "n"-standard 2TB Time Capsule. My G5 shipped with an 802.11g-standard Airport Card which I disconnected when I installed the PCI card to avoid hardware conflicts. The new n-standard wireless set-up works without a problem, but having lost the Apple Airport Card, I no longer have the ability to control/manipulate the Timecapsule via the third-party card e.g. I cannot connect/disconnect my internet connection or otherwise troubleshoot the base station.
So, the question is, how can control an Apple base station with a third-party wireless card? As it stands now, I must boot up my laptop just to see if I have a connection.

Thanks for the assistance. Yes, I can indeed administer the Time Capsule from inside the Airport Utility, but I am still unable to connect or disconnect the Internet connection like you can with an Airport card (using the Airport drop-down menu.) If my ISP signal drops for whatever reason (which is does often) I have to boot up my laptop just to reconnect. Is there some feature within the Airport Utility that permits one to connect/disconnect the signal? If there is, I haven't found it yet.

I set up a WLAN with multiple Airport Stations in my house like this:
Time Capsule is the main station (placed in second floor) which creates the WLAN and is connected via Ethernet to the ADSL router of my internet connection provider. Works fine and stable.
Secondly I placed an AirPort Extreme station in our first floor to extend the WLAN of the main station. Without that second station I had bad connection in first floor.
Now I wanted to integrate my Laserprinter to that WLAN so that every device could use it. The problem is, that I cannot place the printer in the second floor where the main station (Time Capsule) is located. Therefore I placed the printer in the first floor next to the second station and connected them via ethernet. I gave the printer a unique IP (10.0.0.200) which will never be used by another device (I set DHCP IP range of Time Capsule from 10.0.1.2 to 10.0.1.200).
But connection to the printer fails
So, my question: is it possible to connect a ethernet laserprinter to that network via the second station or must it be always connected to the main station?

IPhone 4 not working with Sony docking station

Hi guys,
My iPhone 4 is no longer working with my Sony SRS-GU10 docking station. It connects with the docking station and charges, but there is no sound.
I've tried to reset my iPhone, but that didn't work. I've turned off the bluetooth and that didn't help. I blew into the iPhone connector and the docking station and got it working for 10mins. It's just strange how it's just stopped working! Just wondering if it's knackered or can be fixed???

How do I turn off base station logging?

Airport Extreme seems to have started logging events two days ago with no input from me. Have been using for about two months. I wonder what's going on and how I can turn off base station logging.

There are basically two types of logs that the AirPorts provide: 1) The "real-time" logs under the Logs tab of Logs and Statistics within the AirPort Utility, and 2) Syslogs which require that you provide a destination device that is set up to collect these types of logs.
Which are you referring to? If it is the former, there is no "off" option. With the latter, you would just need to remove the IP address from the Syslog Destination Address window on the Logging & Statistics tab of the AirPort Utility.

Are you looking for a program that can help you extract audios from a concert DVD or a movie DVD, and then save them as MP3? I am not personally aware of any freeware that does what you ask. However, DVDxDV Pro (check it on VersionTracker) does what you want. The shareware price is $80, and is considered fairly high end. It does rip out audio separately from video. There is a less expensive version of this app available also, $25, but it does not separate the audio.

External hard drive works, but not with a docking station

hello,
I'm finding it difficult to use my docking station with my WD Cavier Green 2TB hard drive.
I know that the hard drive is in perfect working order as it still works with my many different leads and cables i have. But when i plug it in to my docking station i get the "unable to read' message.
I've checked disk ultility and the hard drive is there but the second name down reads disk1s1 and is greyed out.
I've read through the countless discussions and opend the ownership (when i plug it in with my many cables) but when i use the dock it claims there's no ownership.
I've tried verifying and repairing but an error message appears.
I've tried turning off the hard drive and docking station and turning it back on.
I've tried restarting my comuter.
And i've tried using a different cable.
it just seems odd that a docking station could stop my hard drive being recognised yet plugging it with many cables is fine.
Is it simply a case of my hard drive not being fully compatible with the docking station? or am i missing something?

Hello, I am having a similiar problem. I had an old MacBook that died so I took out the partitioned HDD and put it in an enclosure. The other day I plugged it into my other MacBook and both HDDs appeared (Mac and Bootcamp) but today only Bootcamp will appear. When I run the commands recommended above, I get this:
It appears as if there are two traditional hard drives? The first and second line? I'm not very Mac savvy so I don't know how to use the chflagg command to make these visible. Ultimately, I want to complete wipe this entire HDD (partition included) so I can have it fresh. Can anyone advise on how to make the Mac partition visible or how to complete wipe it and start fresh?

RIP with same color conversion as Adobe

for the color conversion of our images and pdfs we use Photoshop and Idesign (What I´m talking about here is to put an input profile, a rendering intent, and a output profile).
99,99% of the time we use relative colorimetric with black point compensation to do the conversion. So we use those 2 applications as if they were rips.
I must say that we are very happy with the results.
What we are looking for right now is trying to automate that process.
We have been using a rip called Colorgate Productionserver 7. This rip have hot folder workflow (wich is what we want) BUT the color conversion is not the same as the one that Photoshop and Indesign have (using the same input profile, rendering intents and output profile).
We have been doing much testing with rgb images and we don´t like how this rip converts the images to the output profile.
It leaves the pure blacks a little bit more washed out than what the Adobe conversion would do and also if you send the image as a tiff file the rip respects the rendering intent of that queue and converts the image accordingly but when you send that SAME image inside a pdf (whether is cmyk or rgb) the rip WILL ALWAYS use the relative colorimetric conversion (without black point compensation) to do the color conversion regardless of the rendering intent that you have in that queue. Indesign honors embedded profiles, rendering intents and output profiles perfectly.
So what we are looking for is a hot folder-queue based rip that have a color conversion really similar (or the same if possible) as the one of Photoshop or Indesign and have the black point composition option in the rendering intent menu.
I don´t know if Adobe has a similar product or if it has licensed it´s color management to anyone.

I am using version 6. I could stabilize my processes by simplifying the workflows for PDFs.:
Just one color space for RGB images, just one color space for CMYK components,
explicit assignment of the two profiles, explicit assignment of the two rendering intents.
No use of embedded profiles and hopefully no use of InDesign's general color settings,
which may be in contradiction to the settings in Productionserver. My InDesign PDFs
are generally made for Leave Colors Unchanged.
I had discussed some issues with Colorgate: printing of Lab components and printing
of images by K-only (black and gray inks). The company is cooperative, but it's obviously
impossible to clarify the extremely complex workflows just by post and e-mail.

Dial up account setting issue with graphite base station and ibook

hello, I have spent hours and hours researching this issue. I cannot connect to the internet using my graphite base station and ibook. It seems to be a settings/configuration issue for my dial up account. what settings do I use? which account do I choose? Same as modem settings? is there a conflict somewhere? The airport card was checked at the apple genius bar, it's ok. How do i configure the base station? Thanks. What's with the paper clip deal? Is orange or green the preferred color?

Anyway, how do you change the modem settings on the airport.
You need to administer the Graphite using AirPort Admin Utility. To do so with a computer running Mac OS X 10.4, you should use AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5. First, join the computer to the Graphite's wireless network. Then, launch the utility, select the Graphite on the opening screen, click "Configure," and enter the Graphite's base station password. (Note: the base station password is not the same thing as your wireless network password and is also not the same thing as your dial-up account password.) The dial-up modem settings are found in the "Internet" pane of AirPort Admin Utility. In the "Connect Using" pop-up menu, select "Modem (V.90)" if your Internet Service Provider ("ISP") supplies a telephone number that is compatible with the V.90 protocol. The actual settings to enter (the dial-up telephone number of your ISP; your ISP account name and password; and (if necessary) DNS server addresses and/or domain name) are those specified by your ISP.
Does this affect the dial up internal modem settings?
No. The internal modem settings and the AirPort settings on your computer are found in different portions of the Network pane of System Preferences. The computer connects to the base station via AirPort, regardless of how the base station connects to the Internet.
The internal modem settings on the computer, if they work, may be useful as a reference. The account name and other settings to use in the "Internet" tab of AirPort Admin Utility are the same ones that you would use on your computer if your computer were connecting to the Internet using its internal modem.
What's with the paper clip deal?
A paper clip is used if you need to reset the base station. See step 4 of Article HT2439 -- Resetting the AirPort Base Station (Graphite). (Note: the references in this article to AirPort Setup Assistant are out of date. You must instead use AirPort Admin Utility to reconfigure the base station, as well as to reinstall base station software, if you reset the base station.)

I am new to AE and am trying to work with a 360 equirectangular video I shot with a Freedom 360 and 6 go pros.
Are there any tutorials on how to work with 360 spherical videos? Do I need to download additional plugins?

Of course, the image needs to be big for this, but the plugin you would use is CC Sphere.
Drop your movie into a composition and apply CC Sphere to the video.
Then set the Render option in the effect to "Inside".
Under Shading set Ambient to 100% and Diffuse to 0%.
Then scale inside the effect until the image fills the screen.
Then you'll be able to use the Rotate Y controls in CC Sphere to spin around inside your video!
You can also add Optics Compensation and Reverse the Lens Distortion to straighten out your image.

I am having much trouble with the new reminders in IOS7 and how it interacts with Outlook Exchange. Many features lost in the new version.

When I downloaded IOS7, I found that the reminders/task app and how it interacts with Outlook Exchange is much more difficult to use. Some of the issues that I am having are...
1. Trying to edit my task on my phone is not possible, if the notes are lengthy. When you click on the text to edit data near the top, it will scroll to the bottom and not allow you to edit the text because you cant see it.
2. Now all of my task are in one long list. I can not move from day to day like we could in previous version IOS6
3. When I do edit a short task reminder and click done, it crashes and completly goes away. It does save the edit though
4. You can only add task at the bottom of each days reminders. This is very inconvient and much more difficult than IOS6
5. There is a major delay or latency when interacting inside of reminders in this version. Much more than IOS6. It is very unstable and quirky.
I have never seen Apple take a step back with a product until now. I am a huge Apple fan and always will be, so I am hoping they make enhancements to fix these issue. It is a big time prodcutivity killer.

Some power supplies or designed so that if there is a short or overload they shut them selfs off and some will not turn back on. Some have a relay that will click back on and work, some you have to cycle the power switch. Those that won't come back on will have to be replaced. I'm not saying that yours is that type as I have no way of telling. But if you have a friend who will loan you a good power supply you might try it. As someone else said just turning off the power will not darn all the power from some motherboards. To test this turn off your power supply than turn on the computer with the start botton. Mine will flash the lights and fans will start to spin than die. So every time you turn off computer to work on it. After turning off PSU hit the start botton to drian any power left in it before working on it. Also do this after unplugging it just to make sure.

How to deal with deadlock on wwv_flow_data table when http server times out

There are some threads about a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table. None of them contain a real explanation for this behaviour. In my case I will try to explain what I think is happening. Maybe it helps somebody who is hitting the same matter.
In my case with APEX 3.2.1 I am navigating from one page to another. Doing this APEX will lock the table wwv_flow_data. As soon as the other page is shown the lock will be released. But now this other page contains a bad performing query (standaard report region). After 5 minutes the http server (modplsql) will time out and present the message "No response from the application server" on the screen. In the meanwhile the query is still running on the database server and the lock stays on the wwv_flow_data table.
Normal user behaviour will be that the user will use the back button to return to the previous page and tries it again to navigate to the other page or
the user will try to refresh the page with the bad performing query.
And voila now you will have a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table since a second session is trying to do the same thing while the first hasn't finished yet.
How to deal with it?
First of all. Have a good look at the bad performing query. Maybe you can improve it that it will succeed before the http server will timeout.
In my case the 11gr1 optimizer couldn't handle a subquery factoring clause in the best way. After changing it back to a classical inline query the problem was solved.
Secondly you could increase the timeout parameter of the http server. Although this not the best way.
Maybe it would better if APEX in a next version would release the lock on the table wwv_flow_date earlier or do a rollback just before the moment that the http server is timing out.

I saw your reply here and you probably understand the problems the HTTP 100 response may cause.
I am trying to send image that was taken by getSnapshot. The problem is that the server respond with this HTTP 100 message.
I suspect that the reason that my server doesn't recognize the file that I'm sending from J2me is that the "server to client" response to the 100 message comes after the second message of (see what the TCPIP viewer shows down here):
