How to rotate movies

is there a way to rotate a movie view in itunes. Some of the movies I have taken are only viewable longways.

Sorry if this is too late: only just seen your post. Three ways to rotate movies -
1 Buy Quicktime Pro
2 Get TransformMovie (donationware, with free trial period) from http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities.html
3 Use the AppleScript given on the following MacOSXHints thread: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=13163&highlight=rotate+video
But after you've rotated the movie the thumbnail in iPhoto is still on its side. If you track down the original thumbnail images and rotate them in a graphics program they then appear the right way up but distorted because the thumbnail retains its landscape shape. I haven't found how to cure that.

  • How do I move a pattern layer independent of its vector mask?

I've created a pattern fill layer and assigned a vector mask to it. How do I move the pattern around without affecting the mask? I realize if I want to rotate the pattern I'd need to convert it to a smart object, but if I only need to adjust the pattern location there must be some way to do that without moving the vector mask along with it. A traditional layer shows the vector and raster mask layer with a lock icon, but fill pattern layers are different for some reason. Can someone "fill" me in?

Yes, I understand that. I am working with pattern layers, not layers filled with a bitmap pattern.
That is not what your showing above in red above your showing a shape layer in CS6 a pattern fill layer with a vector mask is a cs6 shape layer. Even the icon on the layer's content in the layers palette shows its a shape layer.  You can edit the vector mask you can not unlink it. For its a cs6 shape layer.  As you noted you can first convert pattern fill layer into a smart object layer. It then acts like a normal pixel layer with an associated transform to the canvas size. Your no longer dealing with a pattern fill layer. When you rotate it you will have the same problem with the layers corners areas.  CS6 changed shape layers design they have more options then prior  versions of Photoshop and prior versions of Photoshop can not handle CS6 shape layers that used cs6 shape options like stroke, line type, and pattern fills.

  • How do I move a 3D object in 2D space?

I'm trying to get used to the new way of doing things in CS4. Once I've created a MC and rotated it in 3D, how can I move it across the screen w/o rotating it further? I have a MC that rotates over several frames, and once it reaches the last one, I want it to stop rotating, then begin to slide in an X direction (while reducing the alpha). But no matter which tool I use or what I do on the timeline, the object is stuck in place and will only rotate and not move. Even the 2D X and Y settings in the properties panel are grayed out.

If you have rotated it in 3D, when you change the spatial (X, Y) properties, the perspective is going to change based on the 3D rotation. So the appearance will change if you move it on the Stage, based on that 3D. That means it will look "correct" over the tween, based on where it is on the stage.
If you do want to have your instance not change over a period of time, you could insert the keyframes and make sure the values are not changing. It doesn't stop it from being 3D, but it will stop whatever property from tweening. Or if you really need to tween in 2D you need a new tween span -- split the span  (in that the "skew" creating the 3D appearance absolutely doesn't change between two frames based on the instances stage position), remove 3D for that section ( split and 3D are both available by right click on the span), and then use Onion Skin to modify the instance (or trace the 3D instance and replace the instance in the 2D tween).
Or, based on the original post if you want to just stop 3D rotation but retain the 3D-ness of the instance (the skewed-ness, etc), you could just make the last rotation keyframe before the end of the tween on the Rotation Y property.
I may be able to help more if you describe what you'd like to achieve with the "2D" part of your tween.

  • IPhoto Questions (including rotating movie & save locations)

I've owned my new Macbook Pro for a little over a month now. Prior to this I have been using Linux (Red Hat, SuSE, Ubuntu, etc...) on my primary computer and MS Windows for many, many years. I am very used to the way Linux and Windows handle files including imported photos. Prior to my Macbook purchase, I was managing my iPhone and iPad with Windows 7. Please pardon my Mac OS X ignorance. I am new to this.
    Here's my hardware:
    Macbook Pro 15" Retina 512gb (mid 2014) with OS X 10.10.1
    iPhone 5s (16gb)
    iPad 4 retina (64gb)
Now the questions... When I import photos from my iPad or iPhone into iPhoto, the photo's do not go into the "Pictures" directory unlike Windows. I did some research and apparently iPhoto stores your photos in a database similar to the way iTunes works with music. However, unlike iTunes, you cannot browse the .jpg's and .mov's in the finder, you have to open them in iPhoto to see them. This creates a problem for me in that I can't back up my photos manually anymore to an external hard drive. I have to rely solely on Time Machine. I don't like that. Also, I'd just like to be able to browse my photos in finder. I want access to the .jpg's and .mov files so that I can copy them to USB thumb drives, etc... Is there a way to import your photos from the iPhone or iPad into the "Pictures" folder on my Macbook, then into a date sub folder similar to the way Windows imports photos? This would be preferable for me because I want access to the original files in finder, not just through iPhoto. If there is an "open in finder" option in iPhoto, obviously the photos are stored in folders on the Macbook. Why can't you just browse them from finder without using iPhoto? iTunes lets you do this. Is there a setting in iPhoto that I am missing that will allow this? If not there should be one similar to the iTunes "keep iTunes media folder organized" option.
Also, when I have to rotate a movie that is located in the iPhoto library, I know that I can click "open in finder" from iPhoto and open the .mov in Quicktime to rotate the movie. However, when saving (there's no save option, you have to close and are prompted to export) there is no option to save in the original location and rewrite the movie in iPhoto. The only option is to store in one of the browsable file folders (Movies, Pictures, Documents, etc...). Consequently, when opening iPhoto, the movie file remains in the original rotation, unchanged. How do I have Quicktime save to the original location of the movie in the iPhoto library? You can not open iPhoto Library.photolibrary from within Quicktime and browse to the folder containing the original movie. This is mind boggling to me. I suppose I could delete the original movie in iPhoto and import the rotated movie into iPhoto, but this seems like a huge waste of steps, time and is really inefficient.
I don't like not having control over my photos. I'd like to be able to view all of them in my finder. Am I missing a preferences setting or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't like not having control over my photos. I'd like to be able to view all of them in my finder.
You have far more control over your Photos with iPhoto than with the Finder. But you can simply use the Finder or any other app to manage your photos, iPhoto is not compulsory in any way. If you are going to use iPhoto then there is a conceptual leap to make, and then it begins to make sense.
That leap is this: that Jpeg is not your Photo. That .doc file is not your novel. That .mp3 is not the song. In each case, these files are containers for the data - with characteristics attuned to the nature of the data, sure - but your data is the photo, the novel, the song. Or put another way, they're the shoebox, your data is the shoes.
iPhoto is about the Photo and not the file. If you want to manage files by all means do, and best to use a file manager. iPhoto is for managing Photos. The best analogy I can come up with is the Contacts.app. (and like all analogies, it's limited but here goes.) The Contacts.app is a central store and repository for anything to do with your address book, emails, phone numbers. Somewhere on the HD is a file or files with all this data, but you never go there. You either use the Contacts.app or any of the many hooks built-in to the OS to access, edit, share and manipulate this data.
Now try the same with iPhoto: iPhoto is a central store and repository for anything to do with your photos. Somewhere on the HD is a file or files with all this data, but you never go there. You either use iPhoto or any of the many hooks built-in to the OS to access, edit, share and manipulate this data. So, iPhoto replaces the file manager for anything to do with your photos, because it's about the photos and not the files.
Coming from Windows and Linux, especially, this level of abstraction can be confusing, but that's what it is. Added to this is the level of virtualisation used in iPhoto - all edits are virtual until you export - the non-destructive editing feature can also be confusing. But that's why iPhoto can't be navigated via the Finder. Comparing it with iTunes, which has no editing, is not comparing like with like. iPhoto will always preserve your original data - the photo as shot.
    To specifics:

has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
This creates a problem for me in that I can't back up my photos manually anymore to an external hard drive.
Of course you can. Simply Export them. File -> Export. Now you can choose exactly what to export: the original, an edited version, if different qualities and different formats. But again, simply backing up a version of the photos is not really backing up your work, just the raw data. So you need to back up the Library as well.
have to rely solely on Time Machine. I don't like that.
    No you don't.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
Is there a way to import your photos from the iPhone or iPad into the "Pictures" folder on my Macbook, then into a date sub folder similar to the way Windows imports photos?
    Two ways:
1, With iPhoto you can run a Referenced Library. But I cannot urge you enough not to do this. iPhoto does not have the tools to manage this and you're only strong up grief for further down the road. It's unnecessary and only makes more work for exactly zero advantage.
For more on iPhoto and file management see this User Tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6361
    2. Use some other system for managing your photos. Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) will get your images from your camera/phone/whatever and put them wherever you like. Just don't use iPhoto.
However, when saving (there's no save option, you have to close and are prompted to export) there is no option to save in the original location and rewrite the movie in iPhoto.
Again, this has got to do with non-destructive  processing and that's why you're better importing movies to iMovie and processing them there and then exporting them to the finder, and only when you've finished them, importing them to iPhoto. (Or just not shooting video in portrait).

  • How do I move and scale pictures on iPad mini

How do I move and scale pictures on I pad mini I can move but not scale

You can go into the settings, accessibility and turn parallax motion off. THis is what makes it look 3D, like your icons are floating on your screen. It helps a bit because to have that 3D, your wallpaper needs to have an overlap off the edge of the screen.
ALso, if you go into the photos app, find your photo, send it to be wallpaper (the box with the arrow poking out of it) you will have a bit more control. The higher resolution your image is the more you will have.
Some have also reported some progress rotating their image. For example if your picture is landscape (wider than it is tall), when you go into the photos app, hold your iPad in portrait mode, taller than it is wide. Do the send to that way and see if it helps with you having more scaling room

Can anyone tell me how to rotate the camera in settlers 7 on my mac book pro 15" track pad or keyboard? The game wont let me play until I've done this first test.
Also is it worth buying Sims 3 or will I have just as much trouble as I've had with Settlers 7?

Thanks for your reply Kappy but I did not mean the camera that is in the lap top lid that is used to take photos of yourself with photo booth. I mean rotating the camera view in the game of Settlers 7. I can zoom in and out and move horizontally and vertically but don't know how to rotate the view.

  • How to rotate objects?

    Extremely basic question I'm guessing.
Simply need to rotate an object by a few degrees. Every time
I do this the object increases in size.
Don't want it to change size, just rotate.
Help documentation didn't seem to offer any insight into how
    this works.

I think my questions is even more simple than that...
Not looking to have an object rotate, move, etc...
Just placing things on the stage. Wanted a rectangle drawing
    object to be rotated slightly.
Using the "free transform" tool causes the object to
    both
    rotate
    and
    increase in size.
Is it possible to simply rotate an object on the stage
(without doing anything else to it ... just rotate it)?

  • How can I move clips from one library to another? Clips are still in original drive and not in new drive.

I am using iMovie 10.0.7 on a 1-week old iMac 27" running Yosemite 10.10.2. I migrated from iMovie 9 on a 2008 iMac running Snow Leopard and updated the libraries and events, etc.
I have two external drives connected via USB. I want to move / consolidate the library and clips from one of the external drives to the new iMac's 3TB fusion drive. This is to make room on the external drive to run Time Machine backups.
Apple's instructions on managing libraries and moving/copying clips/events tell me to drag to move between libraries and to Option-drag to copy. However, simply dragging only copies. I find that if I Command-drag the events/clips, I can "move" them. But when I look outside iMovie in the Mac OS X Finder, the event folders and clip files themselves are still sitting in the original drive.
I'm very perplexed as to how to really move the clips and event structure. Should I manually copy the clips and event folder structure outside of iMovie? I worry I will mess up iMovie's internal record keeping and folder structure information.
    Thanks in advance.

Ahh, Ok. I actually had to go to Lynda.com to watch a training video of this highly bassackwards maneuver, but now I have it. In other words, while the intuitive thing is to make a new event to hold the clip you want and then open the old event and drag the clip into it's new event, the only way to accomplish this maneuver is to NOT create a new event, but rather, go to the clip AFTER the one you want to move, select it and then Right-Click on it and select SPLIT EVENT BEFORE SELECTED CLIP (or go to FILE>SPLIT EVENT BEFORE SELECTED CLIP). Then you wait a few seconds while the program thinks a bit (no feedback it is doing this - just a pause) and then it automatically creates a new event with the clip you wanted. Now just double-click the new event and name it something meaningful.
    Thanks for your help!
