How to roundtrip and transcode footage for Davinci Resolve and others

Hello,
I'm cutting a project using multiple codecs in Premiere CC, but I want to grade it in Davinci Resolve- a software that can't handle MXFs and MP4s and H264s in the same sequence. My colorist is asking for a sequence in a single codec- preferably Pro Res.
I'm trying to do the equivalent of "Media Manager" in FCP to simultaneously move and transcode the footage from my finished sequence to a new location, but I'm having trouble finding this.
The "Project Manager" feature in Premiere Pro CC was incredibly buggy.  It took 15 minutes to export a test sequence that was 15 seconds long and it didn't even trim my clips- even though I selected that box. This took up a ton of hard drive space.  More importantly:  It doesn't give me the option to transcode on export.
Does anyone know if this feature exists?  I'm a professional editor and Premiere needs to play nice in finishing if I'm going to continue to use it.

Sorry that you didn't have a great experience with the Project Manager. It does work with some caveats.

Yes, it takes awhile to copy the clips with Long GOP codecs. With footage like you are describing, Premiere Pro must copy the entire piece of media because of the codec. If you shot, say, ProRes in an ARRI Alexa camera, the Project Manager would only copy what you needed (plus handles) instead.
ProRes in an intraframe codec which allows the consolidation of media. Since Long GOP footage requires surrounding frames, you cannot consolidate it (therefore, requiring the entire media).
Do you recall that FCP could not playback Long GOP footage natively? It could not. In FCP 7 or earlier, Long GOP footage had to be transcoded to ProRes so it could be handled in the timeline. FCP's Media Manager seems faster because all the footage got sent through Log and Transfer making it into intraframe footage, which can be consolidated and exported quickly. In fact, the Project Manager is equally snappy if you only include intraframe footage.
You do have a point regarding managing the media and transcode it to a new codec. Please make a feature request: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Most people that want to consolidate footage in Premiere Pro transcode the footage before starting the edit. It would be nice to be able to manage that media and transcode it at the same time.

    I was just surfing the Mac App Store when I found a lite version of Davinci Resolve. I havent really looked into Davinci Resolve, but it looked interesting. I was trying to figure out what it really is though, might be a stupid question, but is it just a color corrector? Can I do editing in it? I typically use Final Cut Pro X for my editing jobs, mainly cutting together show-reels and small promo´s for my exhibitions, and was wondering if anybody could shed some light on color correcting in Final Cut Pro X vs Davinci Resolve?

    So I'm trying to get Home Directories up and running on a 10.6.8 Xserve (waiting until I get my NFS sharepoints migrated to a Linux server [for other reasons] before moving up to 10.7 Server). But posting here since that will be happening in the next few weeks, and it might be applicable now (so I can at least get that resolved ahead of time).
    I have a different DNS entry for each ethernet port: server.office.domain.com at 192.168.0.11 for the first, and homes.services.internal at 192.168.0.10 for the second. DNS lookups for both resolve correctly (as does the reverse lookup).
    If I use the Server Admin to pick a sharepoint as an automount for Home Directories, everything is fine, but it picks the server.office.domain.com hostname. Picking that works just fine, but that is also the connection that feeds the filesharing. I'd prefer to split that home directory traffic out onto the second ethernet port. So I tried just duplicating the initial connection (since it can't be edited directly in Workgroup Manager) and changing the hostname to the internal one, but I get an error when attempting to log in (the client login screen gives a very helpful "Couldn't login because of an error" error message) and don't see anything in the server logs.
    The client machine shows the following line:

    So it looks like this is failing because the automount isn't in place, but I'm not sure how to work that out either (i.e. how do I add that making sure it uses the internal hostname?).
    Any suggestions on getting this to work?
    I realize one solution is just to LACP the two ports, but that is a different ball of wax (I may do that later if I get a 4 port ethernet card and performance limitations demand it).

    A possible solution might be this.
    On ADSLBOX and CABLEBOX configure different subnets for the LAN, e.g.
    ADSLBOX:    192.168.1.0/24
    CABLEBOX: 192.168.2.0/24
    The MEDIABOX gets these static IPs:
    ADSL-LAN: 192.168.1.2
    CABLE-LAN: 192.168.2.2
    On the MEDIABOX, configure the two network interfaces using two routing tables.
    The ADSL-LAN routing table
    ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 src 192.168.1.2 table 1
    ip route add default via 192.168.1.1 table 1
    The CABLE-LAN routing table
    ip route add 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth1 src 192.168.2.2 table 2

    To test the setup:

    I don't know how to persist something like this in ArchLinux using netctl. Might require to write a special systemd unit for it. Above is a working example from a RedHat box at my company.

    You can't plan the investiment of buying an EAI tool on a single interface.
    You have to analyze the integration necessities of the client in the present and for the future and, if the client uses SAP ERP, having XI will always be an interesting option, since it:
    1. can handle all non-sap to non-sap integrations (tho it's not meant exclusively for that);
    2. can handle the sap to whatever integrations better than no other EAI.
    If the client doesn't use SAP ERP but does a lot of B2B interactions with SAP users, buying only the Partner Conectivity Kit would be an available option.

    The purchase of the new mac (D700x2, 32Mb RAM, 1TB SSD) cost me a lot of money.
    It was intended for use with Adobe Premiere, After effects, Photoshop, and Da Vinci Resolve Blackmagic 10.
    I unwisely upgraded to Mac OS 10.9.3 (hoping that with the new drivers the machine would improve its poor performance).
    A glaring error.
    At the time the workstation is just a pretty ornament because for my job (which I do for more than 20 years old) is completely unusable.
    The machine crashes constantly in DaVinci Resolve.
    All of this is putting a strain on my patience and the patience of my clients.
    I hope that Apple is aware of the situation clearly enough, and assume that for once his responsibilities working to resolve as quickly as possible these unacceptable problems.
    I've always been an Apple customer and "friend" of Apple but this situation is not acceptable.
    Before creating advertising slogans you should create products able to function.
    What is the point of all banchmarks DaVinci Resolve ppoi if the machine is not able to run it for a professional use?

    Hi,
    Sounds like a job for the Lookup Check processor!
    As with all check processors, it adds a flag attribute (with a Y/N value) that denotes if the lookup was successful or not, as well as filtering records based on this at output.
    Lookup Check does the same as Lookup and Return but does not return the record(s) looked up.
    Also note that Lookup and Return does not actually merge records, but it does pull back the return data (which you can then split if you want a record for each).

    The ideal situation would be to use a transaction similar to MB1C or MB11 to simply enter the planned REM order, component material id, and its respective quantitiy and then post.

    Thank you for your response but LT01 does not seem to provide the functionality that I am looking for.
    To clarify, our users would like to complete a 261 movement for a single component within a particular repetitive manufacturing, without going into the MFBF transaction and having to deselect all of the unnecessary components just to single out one. 
    So ideally we would like to use the MB1C transaction for a 261 movement. Enter in a REM order, the material id, and the quantity to be issued and simply post a single material.  Currently when we attempt to do this with MB1C we receive the error M7162 that our order, which is a product cost collector, cannot be processed with this transaction.

  • Prepping SD footage for a HD project

    Hello everyone,
    I have some SD footage that I need to place in a HD project.  I was  hoping to give you the details and see how you would prep the footage.
    The source of this SD footage is a PAL DVD, and it's interlaced.  The  project time line I'm hoping to place this footage in is DVCPRO HD  720p60 in Premiere Pro CS5 on a PC.  Pillar boxing the SD footage is  just fine.  My eventual export format will be a Quicktime file using the  DVCPRO HD 720p60 codec.
    I've heard Telestream Episode handles PAL conversions very well, but I  don't have access to that program.  My only options are After Effects, Red Giant's Instant HD plugin, Adobe Media  Encoder, Handbrake and MPEG Streamclip.
    Given these resources, how would you prep this footage for this project?

  • FCP X can't find clips exported from Davinci Resolve

    Doing a roundtrip from FCP X to Davinci Resolve Lite and back.  XML imports into Resolve OK, then I render the media and export an XML from Resolve to the same folder.
    When I import the XML from Resolve into FCP X, it imports the timeline but just black media -- in Events, there are green rectangles with the names of the "old" clips, meaning what they were called in FCP to begin with. However, Resolve has rendered them with "V1-0001" appended to the name of the clip.  I have tried this with several different Resolve settings ("Render clips with unique names" both on and off.)
    Any way in FCP X to "reconnect media" as there used to be?

    Yes, I imported them. They appear as separate clips (that is, separate from the blank ones that come in with the XML).

    It is not possible to create a new iCloud account using a Windows machine. You must create the account using a Mac (10.7.5 or more) or an IOS device (iPhone etc). Once that is done you can sign into and use the account on your Windows machine.
