You only need to include the jmf.jar in your classpath to take advantage of it.
The idea of "installing JMF" on a system is that each app wouldn't have to include the jmf.jar (and since there's native versions for different platforms). Since JMF is, in general, used very little (mostly due to lack up updates to code and documentation), it's unlikely your users would be running more than one JMF app, so go ahead and just distribute the jmf.jar with the app.

There are a few threads around here with this same issue, and as far as I know Adobe has not addressed it adequately. Many of us, when we are prompted with an update for Flash, are not given the option to opt out of installing google toolbar and google chrome.
Adobe is playing cute, pretending to be surprised at such reports. They always demand screenshots of it, and then ignore them when the screenshots are posted. Then demand screenshots in the next thread with the same issue, feigning surprise that such an isue could occur. Sometimes they insist it isnt happening or it is somehow user error (as if it is user error to simply allow the update from their app to install after getting the update message from their app! )
The problem , in my case, was that the update goes to a URL that autoselects chrome and toolbar. I found if I manually edited the URL, that it would not automatically install chrome and toolbar.
Basically the URL has to be manually edited , so take out the " &a=Google_Toolbar_7.4&a=Google_Chrome_22.0_IE_Browser " at the end AND the "&dualoffer=true&chromedefault=true" bit in the middle. Then it will give you the opt-out. Then do make sure to uncheck the box, obviously And it is obvious that the users are not doing this on purpose, this is built into Adobe's updater, somewhere. The Xcode install is worth the time and space (in my opinion). To enable the command line tools you have to also install those:

The nice thing about using Xcode is that you will have the debugger and also be able to build executables for other platforms (cross compile) since Xcode allows you to use an external build system.

How to locate where programs are installed on iMac and how to uninstall

Hi. Long-time PC user who just made the switch to Mac (iMac to be exact), and this is my first time using this forum. Hoping you can help provide answers to the following (all related):
(1) how can I find out where programs I download and install are located on the hard drive? I open the HD and see subdirectories and such, but can't really figure out where the program I install go
(2) how can I tell if I've installed the same program twice? Or does Mac automatically remove or reinstall over a duplicate program? and
(3) what is the correct way to uninstall a program from Mac -- for example, if indeed I have duplicate programs

Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:

Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

How to reinstall snow leopard without install disc

Hi guys,
I recently took my computer in to an authorised repairer (MyMac Flinders St., Melbourne Australia) to get my LCD screen replaced under warranty, as it had developed a yellow line running down the right hand side of the screen. Whilst it was in the shop I decided to have a new 1TB hard drive put in, and get the OS updated to Snow Leopard (they loaded it up, I did not get install disc). Since then, I have had massive problems with my computer. The computer sometimes would not turn on, turn off, or simply freeze. I took the computer back in and was told it was a software issue, so they did a format reinstall, and told me the problem was fixed. Within hours of getting the computer home, the same problem occurred. I took it back, was told the same thing, and with the same end result (computer not working). I then took it into the Apple store in Chadstone Melbourne, and was told it was the hard drive that was at fault, and not the software at all. I then tried to get the hard drive replaced through MyMac Flinders St., as I now thought it might be the hard drive that was the problem, and with great reluctance and many minutes on the phone they finally agreed. I had big problems getting this agreed to, because my computer was now out of warranty. So, I guess this is a two part question:
1. I've got the computer back now, with the new hard drive, and it seemed to be working fine, but i've since discovered my phone was not syncing up correctly, and was told by Apple support to check my iSync.. to which I was greeted with the error message "iSync can't be launched iSync Manager not available" to which Apple support gave me a step by step instruction download to fix:
In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
Open Terminal.
In the Terminal window that opens, type or paste the following command on a single line:
/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
Press Return.
When the operation is complete quit Terminal
The only problem being.. the Apple Terminal was missing. The program logo was there, but unable to launch. I figure my best bet will be to do a reinstall of Snow Leopard, but I am unsure of how to do this without the physical install disc. I have a backup on an external hard drive.
2. With my computer being now out of AppleCare warranty, I would like to know my options if this problem is unfixable, as my computer was fine before I took it into the authorised repairer, and also in warranty. I don't think I should wear the financial costs of replacing this computer.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you 100% sure they have acted outside the law here?
If you are absolutely sure that they didn't give you a disk, then yes, what they have done is essentially software piracy. Of course, it could simply be construed as a mistake. It is not unusual, however careless it might be, for repair folks to assume you were running SL when they reinstall your system.
However, if you specifically asked them to upgrade you to SL, as it sounds like you did, and they charged you a fee for that upgrade but didn't give you a disk, then that's theft pure and simple.
Oh, and that link you sent for AHT.. It's telling me I'd have to have the install disk to run the hardware test. Is there a way to do it without the disk?
It requires one of the gray disks that shipped with your machine, not the retail SL disk that you don't have. If you have misplaced those disks, then you're a bit hosed... Apple will replace the gray disks for a small fee, and that's the only way you're going to get AHT.
Newer machines apparently have a small hidden partition with the AHT boot system on it, but if your machine didn't ship with SL, I don't think it'll be one of those.

I would like to "restore to factory" my mid-2010 MBP (17") . Except of course I would like to have the 10.7 install and not have to start with 10.6 and then do the 4GB download again. Is that possible?
This is all to troubleshoot a performance issue with Final Cut Pro X. If I do manage to pave my disk, will the AppStore still recognize me (ie I'm not interested in paying another $300+ for various AppStore purchases) I'm assuming that once I log in with the same apple Id I used to make the purchase all should be good.

Since Lion deletes the installer after it's finished upgrading, you need to make a copy before hand. Download the Lion installers and when it auto-starts, cancel the installer. Then make a copy of the installer located in your Applications folder. You can use this again on other machines in the future without having to download again.
You can also make a clone of your SL install before installing Lion. Make a clean install of SL, clone it, then upgrade to Lion. Restoring a clone is almost always faster than installing from the install disks. This is what I do when testing & troubleshooting many of my software issues. (I usually doing that with virtual machines also.)
If you want, you can make a Lion installer DVD or USB flash drive. You can Google on how to make one of those, but realize that neither is supported by Apple. And if you haven't purchased updated ones, you will still need your original disks that came with your Mac to reinstall any of the iLife apps that came with your Mac.

you can also package it in a jar and make it executable. There's a good discussion in the Jar Forum about how to do that.

I bought a new MacBook Pro that did not come with an installation disk. It came fully loaded brand new. I then was involved with an Internet Microsoft scam and need to delete all files and "start over" - I can not find a way to wipe my hard drive without the install disk. Can I delete my files and start over?

They don't come with install disks (DVD). Boot to the Mountain Lion Recovery Disk. Hold down the command-r keys. It helps when your profile shows the operating system you are running on the MacBook Pro. iOS 6.1.3 is an OS for iPhone, iPad not MBP.

Download a trial, and remember the location where you save the installers.
Once the download is complete, go the location where you saved the installer and copy them to a location of your choice. You may also burn them on a disk for future use if you wish.

I got Adobe Premier Pro last year after winning a local film competition. I got a PC version because my best computer at the time was a PC. Now I have a Macbook pro and would really like to do my editing on it. I know I could install XP on the Mac with bootcamp but I don't really want to. I was wondering if there was anyway of somehow getting the PC version to work. Possibly emulating it somehow. I don't really have the money to buy XP anyway and I'm moving away to college with only the macbook. I have no desire to go back to imovie. Is there any way to get Primeire Pro to work with out having XP?

How to use NI DLLs without installing Measurement and Automaton Explorer?

I am developing an application using the NI DAQ M Series Card. The Application is being developed in VC++.
Using the APIs provided by NI, I have a user application wrapped around it which computes the data obtained from Analog and Digital Ports.
I used the Install Shield to create a setup for the same and linked the NI DLLS to the application. But the application exits when clicked with exception. But if I install the services of Measurement and Automaton Explorer the application works fine.
I do not want the Measurement and Automaton installations to be done on the client PC and would like to send only the setup. Can you please let me know which all DLLs I need to include (or registry settings I need to do) to overcome this problem.

It sounds like you're running DAQmx calls in your application and looking for a way to avoid actually running the installer.
This capability is not currently supported, but the option to run a silent installer and to disable specific components is always a great alternative. This KB explains how to perform a silent install with only the options you specify for your application. For instance, you may want to disable Traditional DAQ and shipping examples if you do not want to install these components seperately.
