How to run a firmware update for buffalo tech NAS

I downloaded a firmware updater for a Mac to run the install of a firmware update to a Buffalo Tech NAS LinkStation.  Mavericks tells me it can't run this because it is from an unidentifed developer.  Nice.. I need a workaround if that is possible.

  • Searching for firmware update for Lucent Tech (Silver to Gold)

I have a Lucent Tech. Silver PCMCIA card (PC24E-H-FC) that i picked up because it has the port for an external antenna so i can use it in the garage for storing and looking up manuals. I understand that it is possible through firmware update to switch it to a gold card for slightly higher WEP encryption level.
Does anyone know where to get that firmware update? I realize that it probably has to be done on a PC.
Everywhere i search leads me to the Proxim website where you have to open a service ticket to get to their downloads section.
Am using it with a Wallstreet II 300/192Mb.
Is the silver to gold possible or is it unatainable alchemy?
Any links would be appreciated, thank you.

    Hi funky,
I found this page, which you might find useful:
    http://www.uglybugger.org/source-enterasys2orinoco.php3
In the longest article on top, the links don't work, but if you scroll all the way down, there are some simple instructions. I have not followed them myself, so I cannot vouch for them, but I thought it could help

  • Buffalo's NAS firmware updated for Lion mac OS X 10.7

New firmware available for Buffalo's NAS to be Lion compatible
Time machine support to come (only thing still not working)
here is the link to choose your NAS, then download Mac Intel text and driver files for installation.
    Exemple : Concerning my
Buffalo Linkstation Duo 2To (France) model is "LS-WXL" it's here  :
    Text file to be read    / 3 Ko / July 25th, 2011
    Last Firmware (1.52) / 254,16 Mo / July 25th, 2011
    Don't forget to re-activate DHCAST128 before updating :
see my post in french here for a step by step tutorial (to re-activate DHCAST128 it's at the very end of post).

OK I found a free and easy solution.
Since a lot of people report they are able to access their NAS using apps other than the Finder itself, I decided to look for a free Lion-compatible File Manager to use instead of Finder.
I have found muCommander ( http://www.mucommander.com/ ) and indeed it works fine. All I did was click on the button highlighted bellow, go to "bonjour services" and select my NAS. It prompted me for my username and password and voilá, it works fine.
I keep Finder for everyday use and just load muCommander when I want to access the NAS. At least now I don't have to start my WinXP VM anymore just to access it.
    Hope it helps you.

  • Sonnet firmware update for OS X

Here's instructions I received from Sonnet on how to do the Sonnet firmware update for OS X (you don't need to boot in OS 9.2). Worked for me. Installed Sonnet Encore/ST 1.8Ghz on a G4 350 AGP system.
Note: you still need to have 4.2.8f1 firmware prior to the patch.
+Sonnet doesn't actually provide instructions on how to use the OS X software. Follow the directions below and I imagine you'll not have any problems.+
    +MAC OS X USERS—Install Sonnet Firmware Patch+
+This section describes the installation of software required to support the Encore ZIF, Encore ST or ST Duet G4 in your computer. Please note you MUST run the Sonnet Firmware Updater before you install this upgrade card. If you do not run the updater, your computer will not operate with the processor upgrade installed.+
+1. Insert the Sonnet Installer CD into the CD-ROM drive. Double-click the Sonnet Install CD icon. When the Sonnet Install CD window appears, double-click the Mac OS X ONLY folder.+
+2. Double-click the Sonnet Firmware Updater icon; Mac OS X’s built-in Install program will launch. Follow the onscreen directions to complete the installation of the Sonnet Firmware Updater and Sonnet Firmware Remover applications to your Applications folder.+
    +3. Shut down your computer.+
+4. Press and hold the programmer's button until you hear a long tone; release the button when you hear the tone. Note: programmer's button is the little tiny pinhole on the front of a Quicksilver.+
+4a. For QuickSilver 2002: While holding the programmer's button, press and hold the 'start-up' button on the front of the Mac. When the Mac starts up, release the start-up button. Continue to hold the programmer's button and when you hear a long tone, release it.+
+5. Once the startup process is complete and you have logged in (if necessary), go the Finder and select Go > Applications from the Apple menu.+
+6. Locate Sonnet Firmware Updater, and then double-click its icon to launch the application.+
+7. When the Sonnet Firmware Updater window appears, click OK.+
+8. When the Authenticate window appears, enter the Administrator password, and then click OK.+
+9. When the Wait message appears, DO NOT CLICK OK; just wait. Clicking the OK button will cause the application to quit. After the Wait message disappears, another message will appear indicating that the ROM is being patched. Do not turn the power off; this process may take several minutes.+
+10. When the message stating that the ROM has been patched appears, click OK. Shut down your computer; you may now install the Encore ZIF, Encore ST or ST Duet processor upgrade card.+
+Support Note: After updating your system’s firmware with the Sonnet firmware installer, you do not need to install the other software located in the Mac OS X ONLY folder on the Sonnet Installer CD; that software is used for other processor upgrade cards by Sonnet.+

Coming in late on this discussion, but I just discovered this post in a search for an answer to my problem getting a Sonnet Encore ST 1 GHz processor to work in my G4. No disk came with my processor, however I have downloaded the firmware patch and cache enabler from Sonnet's website.
The problem is the processor installs and after a cuda reset will boot. However after some time the computer shuts dow and on restart all I get is a blank screen. Light comes on front of the G4 and fans as if it is searching for a boot disk, but the screen is blank- no signal from the computer. Replaced the original processor and it boots normally.
I don't think the patch ever installed properly. Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated.

I cannot install firmware update for HP Photosmart 5514

    Hi,
What version of firmware is your printer currently running? The easiest way to find that is to go to the Wrench icon->Tools and then print out a printer status report.
How were you trying to install the update for the printer? With the User interface on the printer or with the downloadable software.
What error message do you get when it tries to install the update?

  • Where do I get an SMC Firmware Update for my 21.5 inch Late 2009 iMac?

    Hello Apple Support Communities,
I have a 21.5 inch, Late 2009 Intel iMac. Currently it is running OSX Lion. It is also running Bootcamp with Windows 7 Professional Installed. Recently the Hard drive crashed on me and I ordered a new generic Hitachi from an Apple Reseller. I took all the precautions and asked all the questions, but when I finished the hard drive replacement, the fans within the iMac started running on High. The other people in my office Hate this. I did some research and found that there is a firmware update for the SMC that I should be installing. I looked on the webpage where apple directs you to find out if you need this update, but I can't find my exact specs on the page (here is the page for reference: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237) I can only find an update for the 27 inch model. I tried running that one and the system tells me "This software is not supported on your system."
Here are the specs that the page requested me to find:
    Model Identifier:          iMac10,1
    Boot ROM Version:          IM101.00CC.B00
    SMC Version (system):          1.52f9
Someone please help, this has been bugging me for a while.

I took all the precautions and asked all the questions,
Then I trust you saw this before you did the replacement. Apparently, it's not just a question of getting a drive from the same manufacturer to use with the proprietary cable.

It's acting as if the temp sensor is not connected. I have it bookmarked amidst thousands of bookmarks but can't remember the name right now. There is some program out there that, in the absence of getting data from the internal sensor, will regulate the fan speed based on the SMART temp. If I think of it, I'll post back.
Here it is. It's meant for the 2011 iMac Apple drives, but I don't see why it wouldn't work in your situation.

BTW, I think John Galt is thinking of the 2011 iMac drives, not the late 2009s, which are not quite as impossible.

  • Firmware Update for my blackberry 8830 world edition with Bell Canada

Hi does anyone know if there is firmware update for the Blackberry 8830 world edition with the carrier being Bell Canada?  I am running version 4.2 and I know there is 4.5 but I am not sure if this applies the my phone with Bell Canada. When I boot up my desktop manager and checks for updates and says that there is no update.  I don't want to update if it is not necessary and not be able to run my blackberry.  If I am able to update where would I go to get the 4.5 update?

You have to repair Desk Manager or unintall and reintall DM, but this time uncheck "Auto update" and anything that refer to "update" the reason why I mention that is because everythime you run DM, it goes online and check for newer version and put this file "vendor.xml" in the Blackberry Common Folder, and with that file in place, it will block the program from installing the newer version from a difference cell company..
From what I see 4.2 is the only version that is up to date for a 8830...but if you have a 8820, you can update to 4.5.

  • Is there a firmware update for the Apple RAID Card [early 2009 Xserve] that will take it beyond the E-1.3.2.0 version and allow it to see 4TB drives?

Is there a firmware update for the Apple RAID Card [early 2009 Xserve] that will take it beyond the E-1.3.2.0 version and allow it to see 4TB drives?

I have a few of these RAID cards in a couple servers, and then I have an earlier version of the RAID card in a few different servers.
The earlier servers are running non-apple 1.5 TB drives. It will be interesting to learn if this firmware update will indeed allow me to boost the capacity by installing non-apple drives, as the firmware previously has not.
Ohh I'm excited to update and try! This will greatly help out if it does!

  • M20 firmware update for wps vulnerability

Can someone advise when Cisco will be releasing a firmware update for the Valet M20 router to address the WPS vulnerability problem  (e.g. disable the feature, something which *should* have been incorporated into the router in the first place).
    Thanks.

Cisco... does not care... about Valet people.
The most recent firmware was released in the 1920's, I believe. It's common practice in the technology sector as a whole to consider electronics as "legacy" devices after about 6 months to a year. Wish DD-WRT ran on this, your configuration choices are pretty much SSID, router's IP and the ability to enable or disable DHCP. Compared to open source firmwares like DD-WRT and Tomato... or even compared to other router firmwares (D-Link firmwares give a lot more control and access to advanced configuration settings-- if you can handle it). I think it's pretty clear that the intended market focus for these routers were... the users who... did not plug the power cord into the router because it said it was "wireless".
Uh oh, did I say that out loud? No... I typed it, though.
The hilarious thing about this is I work as a systems/network admin and have 20 years of experience... and this router gave me trouble when I just decided to be lazy and try setting it up using WPS and the setup program. What a disaster! I finally just did a hard reset and logged in via browser and did it the real way... but I found that extremely amusing, that by dumbing things down so much, it actually made the process (to me, at least) 10x more complicated!
Oh... I threw this one in place of my normal router because it has been acting really flaky lately... it has served its time and paid its dues, surely. I picked up the M20 on clearance for like $10 I think-- for this very purpose... to keep as a backup in my closet if my normal router decided to kick the bucket.
I'm online, so... I guess this Valet M20 is serving its purpose but the lack of configurability is just plain painful! You know what would be a great idea? For Linksys/Cisco to supply an alternative "advanced user" firmware that isn't concerned with giving users enough rope to hang themselves with. People like me and other users who know what they're doing will already know how to flash it and get going-- don't even bother with user guides and pleasantries. Not needed. Also not needed? The splitting headache that swap gave me. A "5-minute task" became a "45-minute chore". I did install the iPhone admin app and found it to be just as watered down.
It seems an odd thing to me that you'd add the option to totally change the SSID or password (something that would require you to update the configuration on all of your wireless clients), yet left out access to things that would be much more practical and useful from a smartphone-- like being able to view the logs-- I would actually find that very useful. I already know that it's a Valet M20. Could have skipped that. Now, being able to reboot the router without having to get up and go to the computer or have to go to the web admin page on my phone, strain to find that option on a page only coded for desktop display... that's useful. The guest enable/disable would be useful, too... if there were any guests here. For some reason, I can't get anyone to hang out... LOL. Ok, rant is finished, I was just testing the connection and ended up here after getting the latest firmware. Thought I'd take a moment to share my thoughts since I'm biding my time, waiting on someone at the moment. This post is an artifact and memorium of the time killed typing it up. Yeah, that's sort of a self-referencing, paradox-ish type thought, hmm. Ok, hah. Really leaving now...

  • Is there any way to get firmware update for my DVD-RW Drive from Ultra 40?

Hi, I have Sun Ultra 40 Workstation which comes with Matshita DVD-RAM drive.
While I do enjoy working on my U40 workstation, its DVD-RAM drive is wll pretty bad.
It just fails to burn DVD/CD-R/RW media too often.
Yes, I got it serviced, but it's just the same.
So my final hope is to get the latest firmware, becuase latest firmware often solves such media compatability issues.
Mine has D100 firmware and I find other people who has the same drive on different system have D101, D200, D201 firmware.
So does anyone know how to contact Sun to get the latest firmware for my DVD-RAM drive?
I did contacted Matshita for this matter and they tell me to contact Sun. But I cannot even find email address for Sun Support or any. sigh...
    Thanks.
    Sang

    Hello Sang,
I have Sun Ultra 40 Workstation which comes with Matshita DVD-RAM drive.
Mine has D100 firmware and I find other people who has the same drive on different system have D101, D200, D201 firmware.
So does anyone know how to contact Sun to get the latest firmware for my DVD-RAM drive?
I did contacted Matshita for this matter and they tell me to contact Sun.
I did review the Full Components List for the Ultra 40. The only DVD drives listed (Part No. 370-7970) are Panasonic UJ-485 and Teac DV-W28SLA-093. Both aren't capable of reading or writing DVD-RAM.
In some countries Panasonic uses Matshita as brand name.
I did a search on SunSolve with the keywords DVD firmware.
Sun supplies only firmware updates for two DVD readers: Toshiba DVD 1401 (fixes: unable to boot from Solaris 8 DVD) and Toshiba SD-C2732 (fixes: returns incorrect data).
I was unable to update the firmware of the SD-C2732 (Sun part) with the Sun patch. The drive was attached to an Ultra 10 (with an adapter). I ended attaching the drive to a PC and using a DOS boot floppy with the Toshiba flash program and the Sun firmware.
Regarding you problems with the drive: Have you tried another brand of media. The Ultra 40 is under warranty (GA date was February 14, 2006).
Use the contact information from your other thread.
If you search the net for firmware you can locate sites that offers region-code-free firmware for several drives. Usually they provide a flash program (requires creation of a DOS boot floppy). Using these programs/firmware voids your warranty. Maybe you can not revert the firmware upgrade.
These slimline drives have no jumpers, the installed firmware (of the drive) determines if the drive is master, slave, uses cable-select (CS) or reversed CS.

  • Can't install SMC Firmware Update for my MacBook Pro 15" early 2011

Can't install SMC Firmware Update for my MacBook Pro 15" early 2011

Check your Network control panel and turn off Auto-Proxy setting.
This is one of the top #4 "how can they do this' pet-peeve errors.
The other is the often slow 8 hrs to download 600MB even on 10Mb+ cable.
Another, 'the drive cannot be partitioned because there isn't enough contiguous unfragemented free space; some files are locked and cannot be moved."
If auto proxy isn't it, router/modem and DNS settings.

  • Zen Micro needs firmware update for Vista, but what now as it fail

As I now use Vista (paid for by my work) I came to install my Zen Micro which wasn't recognised so I came to the website and discovered that you need version 2 of the firmware for it to be compatible with Vista. Having never had the need to upgrade before I was still on Version one so I downloaded it onto my other WinXP machine?which I've used my Zen on alot before to do the upgrade. Started the upgrade and all seemed to be well until a point a 3rd of the way through a box came up asking what I'd like to do with the device (like the one when a USB key inserted). Leaving the upgrade I returned hour later to see nothing has changed and the upgrade has failed.
I've tried all the options with recovery mode but it still just shows up as having version 0.0.65 and when inserted into a PC shows up as a?Creative Zen Micro?in device manage and has a 20MB disk partition for storage but when I try and run a firmware patch it says its not connected.
Looking round this forum this seems to be quite common upto now but with the release of Vista people are forced to take the 'risk' of running a firmware update that when it fails doesn't seem to be recoverable even in recovery mode. Please can you look into updating the firmware to find these devices that it can't see, for many years I've laughed at my friends with their crashing ipods that need charging everyday due to not being able to change the battery but it now seems the jokes on me.

    I used Adambonello's fix and it worked?http://forums.creative.com/creativel...mp=true#M80097

  • Firmware update for hp 1536MFP

I received a firmware update on my computer at work and it seemed to have been installed successfully on the computer, however the LCD screen on the printer just says programming and has been stuck on this screen for more than 25 minutes. Is this normal? Should I shut down and reboot? PLease help.

    Hi mdavi
I understand after running the firmware update the printer is still showing programming on the display.
It will go through erasing and programming on the display but should be completed after it shows it was successfully done on the computer.
At this time you don't really have a choice but to turn the printer off  and on again.
Print out a configuration page to check the firmware to see if it did update properly. Printing a Configuration Report.
If you are still having issues then I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you. Contact HP Worldwide.
