How to run a windows cd on my Mac
Hi,
I've got some CD's with programms on it. A Rout-Planer, a englisch learning sofware (without it you see how bad my englisch is).
They all run on Windows PC's but didn't work on my Mac.
Are there any possibilitys how to run them without instaling Windows?
I new that if i use Parallels or BootCamp i coud by, for example, Windows XP and then use it. But i dont want to by it if there are any other alternativs.

You can use bootcamp to install windows natively on the hard drive. You then choose which OS you wish to use at startup - OS X or Windows.
You can also install Windows in a virtual machine - Parallels or VMWare Fusion - and run it simultaneously with OS X (a virtual machine is just a PC emulated in software, and you install and run windows in the emulated machine hardware). -

I signed up for and downloaded Parallels for Mac and got the message "this app can't be installed on your machine, please check the requirements for your machine." But I couldn't find requirements anwhere.

With Tiger and a G4 PPC I think the only option is to get hold of a copy of Virtual PC and a copy of Windows that will work with it. Virtual PC is no longer produced so you'll have to look on the used stuff websites. I have never used VPC myself but I hear it is really slow, and of course since it is out of production it will probably only run some older version of Windows (not sure, maybe 98 or before?) -

</target> When I am trying to run that JavaFX application jar on MAC OS Lion 10.7.5 using
java -jar application.jar
It always shows a dialog "The application require a newer version of Java Run-time" with download link. Even I have downloaded and successfully installed it on my MAC machine but it still shows me the same window.
java -version is always point to 1.6.
Then I searched for Java Preferences to point the current JRE 1.7 but I could find Java Preferences at Applications -> Utilities -> Java -> Java Preferences.

This may be because I have downloaded the JRE 1.7Yep, that's correct, the java_home command only works for jdk's - sorry for the confusion.
For jre7+ versions, only a single Oracle jre version is allowed to be installed on the machine at a time - making a tool like java_home redundant for jre checking.
Weirdly, jre7u10 does not supplant the Apple Java on the command line path by default. If you just type java -v, then the Apple java version will displayed if you have an old Java 6 from Apple and a new Oracle jre7+.
The Oracle jre is always located under (also somewhat strangely):
/Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/javaTo test jar launching, I used the willow JavaFX browser pre-release jar available here:

Then I launched the jar from the command line using:
/Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -jar Willow-0.1-prerelease.jar The JavaFX jar ran fine on jre7 with the above machine.
The test machine was running Mac OS X 8 with Oracle jre7u10 installed as well as the Apple Java 6 runtime, but no Oracle jdk7+ installed. -

You use Boot Camp to partition the SSD in the Air, download the Win 7 Support files from Apple (part of the boot camp process), save them to a USB thumb drive, have the USB superdrive connect to the Air with the Win 7 install DVD in the drive. Looking for some advice on getting rid of our Windows domain controller (DHCP server, AD, etc.) in favour of a Mac Server (which we own). Is it possible to run a Windows domain with a Mac Server?
Snow Leopard Server (10.6) and earlier included Samba which supported acting as an NT Domain Controller (this pre-dates Active Directory). Lion (10.7) and later as standard can no longer act as an NT Domain Controller nor can they act as an Active Directory server.
So the short answer is no.
Theoretically you could port Samba4 to a Mac and Samba4 can act as an Active Directory server. In reality this is not going to be easy but is theoretically possible.
An easier option might be to run a copy of Linux (e.g. Ubuntu) in a virtual machine e.g. using VirtualBox and then run Samba4 in that and configure it to act as and Active Directory server. Then you could connect the Mac side to the Samba4 Active Directory server. This approach would use all Mac hardware, and not have any extra costs of licenses to buy and as far as all the rest of the network is concerned would be a standard Active Directory server environment. -
I have a Windows XP machine with apps, files and data. I want to get all that over to my Mac, and also run those apps under Windows XP or even Windows 7 on my Mac. Im wondering:
1. How best to get those files over to my Mac
2. How to run those apps and use my Windows based files/data on my Mac
3. How best to run Windows on my Mac....either partitiion my Mac's hard drive and boot up either Windows or MAC OS, or run some other program where I can easily switch back and forth form Windows to MAC OS, or perhaps get it all on an external hard drive, maybe partition that Windows/MAC OS and boot from that?
Thanks!I agree you would benefit by using virtualizaiton software. Virtual Box is one alternative the commercial apps for doing virtualization are Parallels and VMWare Fusion which you also might be interested in for their support and updates.

For your MS Office apps then I'd STRONGLY recommend using the native Office For Mac versions, you can find these on Amazon for less than $100 and then you can run the apps natively rather than having to lean on MS Windows. Also for your Financial and Tax software you also may want to use OS X apps too, for example I used Quicken for over 20 years (PC mostly and some Mac) but switched to iBank. Also for tax software I have used Quicken's Turbo Tax, this also runs natively on OS X.
In other words for your stated needs I don't see much reason to stay with MS Windows. You may have other considerations, if you do please state them, some may be real issues and some may be easily overcome. -

Wine is another popular program
Macs have no compatibility layer. The layer you are talking about is Wine. Crossover uses Wine... as well as other programs like Wineskin... even Transgamings Cider porting tool that many games use is a fork off of Wine. Wine is not part of Mac OS X at all by itself. It would be nice if Apple would put some money behind making it better and maybe building it in so Windows apps could run, but it goes against apple principles of "do it our way" -

Then it either is a pirate clone or you are misinformed.
Apple Computer has never used AMD processors in its products.
However, the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is a Radeon unit, which is an AMD subsidiary. Parallels, VMWare, VirtualBox will all work fine with the Intel Core i7 or i5 CPU that powers the Mac, and use the AMD Radeon GPU that drives the displays. -
