Is there any posiblity to run indesign CS6 as a service, in a separate server or PC?

You could use InDesign Server, that can be run as a service. Have a look at its documentation for more details.

Hello all,
I would like to run the InDesign CS3 Server as a service on Windows. It seems that after installing the Server it automatically installs as a service. But where can I assign the port number. If under Services properties of InDesign Server under Parameters I mention -port 1050 on Ok button it removes the parameter information.
I am doing right or is there some other way to start the Server as Service with Port number.

I tried to start the service with a huge range of users having all imaginable privileges. The common way of using either "LocalService" or the Local System Account (which has admin rights for me) doesn't do the job.

Yes is the quick answer to the question. This is pretty common in large organizations for design departments or knowledge workers that need access to Creative Suite applications. Although most of the links and documents is on CS5, I have not heard about problems in CS6. InDesign does not require OpenGL hardware acceleration.

Judging from the number of votes (11) on http://community.citrix.com/citrixready/product/adobe+indesign+cs4+v6+0, there are numerous companies doing this, both on XenApp and XenDesktop, however it is hard to track who does what in our installed base.

How to install InDesign CS6 from disk on a Windows 8.1 (64-bit) PC when installation fails after the first initialization of installation program, without error message?

I have a (legally purchased) disc with InDesign CS6 that I want to install on a PC with Windows 8.1 (64-bit). After I've double-clicked the Set-up.exe file on the disc, a box is displayed showing the progress of the initialization of the installation program. When the coloured bar in the box is full – indicating that this step is completed – the installation stops and nothing more happens. No error messages are displayed.
I can't find any useful instructions in the Adobe Help pages more than a note that there is support for also Windows 8.1 even though the system requirements printed on the disc box only lists Windows XP and Windows 7. I don't know how to make this work. Does anybody here have any suggestions? I'd be ever so grateful for any tips.

How to register Indesign CS6

I have installed Indesign CS6 on a new computer successfully. The products is also succesfully deactivated on the old computer (I cannot open it anymore). On the new computer the following is inactive (grey) Help -> deactivate. Does this mean my product is currently activated? Should I register the product (Indesign says under Help->registering that this should be done during 7 days!)? If I try it I cannot log in with my Adobe ID (it's just not getting forward...). However, it's possible to log in on the Adobe page. I have also tried to log in first before registering, but it doesn't help.
I also found this information that it's not necessary to register CS6 anymore?

You only register a product once as confirmation that you acquired it so as to establish ownership of it thru your Adobe account. Activation is what gets done for each installation of the product.

How use my indesign CS6 on both iMac and Macbook Pro

Wish to copy my indesign CS6 from my iMac to my Macbook Pro. Have downloaded CS6 3.5 gb from Adobe but will not open and does not show in my applications folder. My idd document is on desktop but is gray and has green letters: exec. Help!

You cannot copy or migrate a copy of InDesign from one computer to another. Adobe applications install a host of files in various locations which are not properly installed.
You must either use the installer file which you originally received or downloaded. You can also download CS6 again from this location:

How to run O9iAS as a Win2K Service?

We installed 09iAS using "0C4J_extended.zip". We would like to run 09iAS as a proper service within W2K instead of starting it manually within a MS-DOS box.

I haven't tried this with oc4j, but I've had good luck in the past with SRVANY.EXE out of the Windows NT Resource Kit for perl scripts, etc...

How to fix InDesign CS6 cloud crashes while exporting to pdf?

Hi My InDesign CS6 cloud crashes when exporting to pdf.
It's a Mac Book Pro, OS X 10.7.4. It shows a blank warning, and then there is a long report, here is part of it. Even all my old files can't be exported to pdf. Can any one help?

Indeed. To be more specific, typically program execution begins in a main() function, which calls some other function (say, to handle menu selections), which calls some other function (whatever menu function the user chose), which calls some other function, etc., etc., perhaps 30 or 40 functions deep.
Because of the way C++ calling conventions work, the history of which function called which other function is preserved in a data structure known as the stack. (The stack also does other things). Under normal circumstances, this "stack trace" is reconstructed to form the crash report.
There is one stack trace for each thread (parallel execution components of the program), but the thread that crashed is usually the only one of interest.
In this case, thread 0 crashed. Its stack trace is meaningless. It contains two stack frames (e.g. functions). At the top, the most recent function is called _XHNDL_trapback_instruction, which is a pseudo address that basically tells us nothing, other than there was some sort of fault.
But typically we will see what function called that top function; and the function that called that; etc., etc.
In your case we do not. Allegedly the crashing code was called from the address 4294967295, or in hexadecimal 0xffffffff. And that is the largest number that a 32-bit word can hold. It is, sadly, garbage.
So your stack trace tell us zilch

I'm new to the BI Publisher process and when loading the system initially I couldn't see how to install it as a service - did I miss something? We're running the application as an application, but can't see the 'run as a service' tick box... We're running on MS Windows 2000 server, MS SQL server 2000 as the database.
Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated!!

How to run InDesign in background?

I mean to make InDesign application invisible while processing my script?

Which might be a reason to find a different method than indesign.
This kind of Policy produces 2 things:
First: They push Mediumsized companys to work illigal or not with indesign at all if they have some special needs which will be only legal by an indesign server.
Second: They prohibit some external Developments or releases because it would be illigal tu use it.
Theres no way to start indesign in Background with its own api (this is not 100% for shure but 95% :-)
It might be Possible but not by VBA or Java, there are some workarounds with VB and c++ but this is a complete different animal.
However maybe it would be legal using somekind of passive server. Means a timejob on one Computer working a set of data in some directory or Database down. It would not be a real server since the jobs starting itself on the Workstation and not by command from another application.
Or Make a script which runs in a loop with a time break. In case 1 you have to make your own Atomic.
But im really not shure how legal that would be. Anyway how legal the split client and Server in the policies by adobe is another animal too.
Its hard to determine whats a server whats not in many cases.
lets say you send the data directly to an automated workstation to work on it - is it an Server?
if the workstation needs a pressing button thing is it or not? In that case you can use a macro keyboard to do this - is it then a server ?
again i dont not understand this policies since you cannot start a multhithread on indesing workstation anyway it would be unuseable for real server applications. you cannot make a hing like a webservice because its simply to slow and unstable.
didnt solve our problems but to be honest, im shure bevore a customer with lets say 8 or 9 employes buys a server for 30k he will work illigal (so are back to my beginning post)
The Question is if indesign is really needed. today i see many prints going out by pdf... so there could be easier ways
