How to run install disk to fix HD?
Got a tricky one here folks.
I just checked the hard drive on my MacPro G3 and there is a minor fault which needs repair. Normally no problem. Just use the install disk pressing C at startup and run disk utility to repair. But here's the catch, I'm running OSX (was already installed when I got it) and the original install disk is of course OS9. I tried but it doesn't recognise the keyboard so I can't do anything anyway. I have an OSX Tiger disk but it's a DVD and the G3 only plays CD's, so can't boot up from that. I tried booting the disk from a Lacie external DVD RW, but it doesn't do it.
Are there any options open to me other than buying an OSX CD for it or tracking down the guy I got it from (as he must have an OSX CD, I suppose).
Powerbook
This is strange, I went to try out the Unix suggestion and thought I'd just run a check to see how the disk is and it now says it's fine. How could that be? It had stated before that "the underlying task failed on exit and there was a minor header repair needed" or words to that effect.
I had that on my Powerbook before and because the install disk was faulty and I couldn't run the repair it eventually got worse to where it told me the hard drive was due to fail and should be replaced, which I did. So how come on the G3 it now says it's fine?

HOW DO I INSTALL DISK OF NEW 10.6 SNOW LEOPARD ? NEW MAC DO NOT HAVE DVD ACCESS . BUT I WORK ON OLD MAC 10.4. TIGER THAT DO HAVE DVD PLAYER . I KNOW THAT SHOULD BE EAZY . THANKS
You'll need to provide some more information .... what current mac mini do you have? Click on the apple in the left corner of the menu bar, click about this mac, and what does it say for processor, memory, and os x version?
When you say you have no DVD, do you have the mac mini server or is the DVD broken?
You can't do anything with 10.6 Snow Leopard on a PowerPC mini, however, if it is an Intel-based mini, you could probably hook up the systems in target disk mode to install 10.6. -

Where, when, how to run install-csdatabase when you're updating everything
If my persistent chat database is on the same sql server and instance as all the other databases, do I only need to run
Install-CsDatabase -ConfiguredDatabases -SqlServerFqdn FEBE.FQDN -Verboseon a lync enterprise pool server or do I still have to runInstall-CsDatabase -DatabaseType PersistentChat -SqlServerFqdn PChatBE.fqdn -SqlInstanceName DBInstance -Verboseon the same enterprise pool server I just upgradedor do I run the command on the persistant chat server after I upgraded it?
http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2809243#6 is confusing when running install-csadatabase
"When Persistent Chat Services are collocated with the SQL BE Databases". Does this mean the persistent chat databases or all the databases?
thanks,
rudifAgreed, it's not clear. Check out this article too:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj721942.aspx
From the above article: "If this is an Enterprise Edition Back End Server and there are collocated databases on this server, then type the following at a command line:"
Install-CsDatabase –Update –ConfiguredDatabases –SqlServerFqdn <SQL Server FQDN> -ExcludeCollocatedStores
Then from the article you referenced: "When Persistent Chat Services are collocated with the SQL BE Databases, run the following command:"
Install-CsDatabase -DatabaseType PersistentChat -SqlServerFqdn <SQL Server FQDN> -SqlInstanceName DBInstance -Verbose
I typically run those two, when it says ""When Persistent Chat Services are collocated with the SQL BE Databases" it means if you're using the same SQL instance for your Enterprise Edition Front End databases rather than have a separate SQL
Server or instance just for Persistent Chat.

How to get install disk for lion on 2012 macbook pro
How do i get a reinstall disk for drivers and lion as well as ilife so i can install a new ssd drive in my computer
As Niel said, you have to install OS X through OS X Recovery. Respecting to iLife, if your Mac came with DVDs, you should have it on the Applications DVD that came with the Mac, and if it didn't come with DVDs, open App Store > Purchases, and install iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand.
Then, if you want, you can download OS X from the App Store instead of using Recovery, so you can burn the installer onto a DVD or USB drive with Lion Diskmaker, so you won't have to redownload OS X each time you want to reinstall. As you have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, it will only work if it came with OS X Lion and you upgraded to Mountain Lion -
How do I install disk 2 of CS4?
I just received the student edition of CS4 and the first disk appeared to install and said thanks at the end but when I put in Application 2 it has two folders but no .exe file or anything. How do I complete the installation?
I spent more than 1 hr on the phone with tech support yesterday and they told me the Application 2 disk is necessary to load all of the program. They said it should have a set up button as well and the disk I received was corrupt. After another hour on the phone with customer support and convincing them that I shouldn't have to pay over $130 for a replacement disk they are sending me a new one. I'll let you know if it works when I receive it.

IBook G4 won't boot using Install Disk
My iBook g4 won't boot from its original Mac OS X Install Disk (10.4.2).
When I try to start by holding down the 'C' key, the drive starts to spin up the disk, but then starts up from the hard drive.
When using the System Preferences to select the install disk as the start up drive, it shows in the preference pane, I can select it, but when it restarts, I get a flashing question mark before the computer continues by booting up from the hard drive.
I've also tried holding down the 'Option' key to run the Apple Hardware Test on the disk, but my internal hard drive is my only option when trying this.
I find it odd that the drive would work normally for all other purposes (reading/writing CD and DVD's), but will not start up from it.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions! An update:
I tested the startup disk using an external FireWire DVD drive and received the exact same results as when attempting to boot from my iBook's internal drive.
Since it's definitely not the drive, I'd have to agree with you that my install disk is bad (although I'm still at a loss as how an undamaged install disk goes bad).
You mentioned that Apple Support would replace the disks for a fee. I went through the Apple Support page and which led me to a page informing me that I had to pay $50 to talk to them once about this issue. I'm hesitant to spend $50 on a call where they'll tell me I can purchase new 10.4 install disks for the discounted fee of $50+shipping for a total investment that's almost the cost of simply upgrading to 10.5.
Has anyone actually purchased replacement install disks from Apple? I'd be interested in knowing what you were charged.
Or is there another method of contacting Apple regarding this issue that won't cost me $50? -
How can I fix an invalid sibling link error message without my original install disk?
How can I fix an invalid sibling link error message without my original install disk?
Hi Jeff,
It's not even likely the Install Disc could fix that, but if you want to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
/sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

You must repair the HD, your best bet is likely DiskWarrior.

Finally, you should run DiskWarrior if your Mac explicitly warns you of a problem with your disk in the form of an error message. Most of these errors are reported by the built-in Disk Utility whether your Mac OS X version is 10.3 Panther, 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 Snow Leopard or 10.7 Lion. Here are some of the most common messages:
Disk Repair: The disk was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible.
The underlying task reported failure on exit.
Invalid node structure.
Keys out of order.
Invalid key length.
Invalid directory item count.
Invalid extent entry.
Invalid record count.
Invalid index key.
Invalid sibling link.

How can I create a start up disk for a old intel core duo running 10.5.8.. Computer works fine, but can't find install disk. Want to use internal disk drive or USD flash drive.
Try calling 1-800-676-2775. Give the serial number and thy *may* still burn you new install disks designed just for the hrdware in your system (for a fee, something like $160 per disk). *May* is only because they may not burn disks for Leopard anymore.
If they do not burn them for you, you can buy Leopard disks off Amazon or eBay for about $200.
Have you considered Snow Leopard?. Those disks only cost $19 (single user) or $29 (5-user license) through Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. -
How do I install the FM10 licensing fix when Adobe Update Installer won't run?
Adobe Update Installer won't run so can't install FM10 licensing fix

Because FM10 began crashing with "fatal" errors whenever I tried to generate a TOC for a small (65 page) book, I researched workarounds and none of them worked. Now that I have delivered a crippled deliverable via Acrobat manipulations, I would like to fix FM. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, got some updates, and then received the "licensing fix" error that popped up in January. I'm wondering why this fix was included not in the updates. That said, the licensing fix package, first, would not unzip so I downloaded it again. I unzipped it but I got a message that Adobe Updater Installer could not run and after several clicks I found that file. I reinstalled Adoble Update Installer but it still does not run.
I am running Windows XP and have TCS 3.5.I uninstalled FM and RH but not Acrobat, Captivate, or Photoshop.
So, now what? Listen to my supervisor who says never use FM again?
P.S. Why do I have to enter a title for my question and then do it again when this page opens??Give Adobe Support a call or contact the TCS team at [email protected] - something in your environment is causing the installer to fail (I'd guess).

Start up disk needs repaired. Repair Disk button is not available in disk utility and I do not have the OS install disk as recommended to fix. Any suggestions?
You have two choices, either get a replacement install DVD for your Mac ( best choice) or make another disk a system disk.
Option 1 call Apple and request a replacement install DVD for you Mac. They will charge you a nominal fee for shipping and handling. You really should have that because it is considered part of your Mac.
Option 2 This one depends on exactly what kind of errors you have on the disk.
If the data is recoverable, you can clone to the other drive.
If not, then you are in trouble and need the install DVD to install an operating system.
