How to run: Mac Mini + Leopard + 1080p ?

Can someone tell me on how to run Mac Mini + Leopard + 1080p? I tried running SwitchRex X 3.7.10 and I was not able to make it work. I read DisplayConfigX may work. Thanks.

Hello, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much free RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • How to make Mac Mini (Early 2009) sleep in Lion?

After upgrading to Lion, my Mac Mini (Early 2009) stopped going to sleep from the Apple menu or from the keyboard. The problem has persisted with all point releases of Lion. The computer went to sleep with the same peripherals just fine under Snow Leopard.
The display goes to sleep but the computer itself neither suspends nor hibernates. The power light is lit and doesn't pulsate. Measuring how many watts the device draws from the power socket shows that it's not sleeping. It wakes up so quickly that it must be only the display sleeping.
Console log shows nothing when trying to sleep.
Changing the hibernate mode from the default 3 to 25 makes no difference. Running the PleaseSleep app make no difference.
How to put Mac Mini (Early 2009) to sleep (preferably hibernation--not just suspension) under Lion?

    Hello,
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • MBP running Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.8 cannot get past login screen even in safe boot

Help!  I have a Macbook Pro purchased in 2009, running Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.8 which froze while running Adobe Illustrator.  On reboot, it won't allow me to go past the login screen.  I tried starting up from the disc, running disk verification and repair and repairing disk permissions, and trying to start up in safe boot, all to no avail.  When the login screen comes up it gives the name of my hard drive with a (2) after it, which seems strange.  Any suggestions short of reinstalling the system software?  I don't want to lose my applications/data!

I am a novice mac user. Again my mac is getting slower by the day and i dont know how to increase its overall performance. Is there any simple software that can boost overall performance or will I have to reformat my MBP? I have a 200gb HD with 50 gb free and 4 gb of ram.
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Launch the Activity Monitor utility. Pull down the list near the top and set it to "All Processes". Click on the "CPU" column heading to put the highest CPU consumers at the top. Also click on the "CPU" tab in the lower part of the window to check the value for "% Idle". If that value is much above zero, check the other categories for signs of resource problems. If nothing there points to a possible problem, launch the Console utility and look for messages that might suggest a problem. If you see messages that you have trouble interpreting, post them here and someone should be able to help.

  • How to upgrade Mac mini server Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

Trying to upgrade Mac mini server running Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I downloaded Mountain Lion and about to install but a warning prompt tells me server functionality will be lost until server.app is applied. What is involved in doing that?

What's involved?  Buy and load OS X Server; that's now a Mac App Store app.
    That'll get you Server.app.
Server.app is the GUI tool that is used to manage recent versions of OS X Server, along with (increasingly) the command line management of the features that are not exposed through the Server.app tool.

  • Base model Mac Mini Leopard Performance

    Hi im new around here.
I have had a Macbook for about a year now. The only upgrade I got when i brought it was 1gb of ram (was 512mb standard at the time).
I also have a 6 month old pc that im bored with, and as macs can now run windows i have no need to have the pc so will be selling it on.
Im thinking of getting a Low end Mac Mini with the 1gb of ram and 1.83ghz processor. How well will this run leopard in comparison to my Macbook running Tiger?
Im hopeing that it will run in a similar way or better but not keeping my hopes up :\
    Cheers for any help

I think it will be very similar in performance to running Tiger on your 1 Gig Macbook.
And in some ways, more responsive, since the Finder is less likely to beachball when waiting for network resources.
And if you track down legacy apps that cause Rosetta to run -- and replace or eliminate these apps -- then performance will be even better.
Utilities > Activity Monitor is a good tool to find those old legacy PPC apps.

  • Mac Mini - Leopard kernel panic

    Hi
I have been having a recurring kernel panic on my Intel Mac mini since upgrading to Leopard. I run my Mac mini as a home server, so after logging in I tend to leave it alone downloading a few things.
However, when I return to it after a few hours it has suffered a kernel panic and asks me to hold down the power button.
Here is the backtrace I get. I would very grateful if someone experienced could give me any idea of what is causing the panic (is it something to do with the airport?). I've submitted the crash report to Apple several times.

I'm curious how you installed Leopard - was it an upgrade install (the default option), an archive and install or an erase and install?
If either of the first two, did the mini show any signs of instability at all before the update to Leopard?
Also, what software is installed on the device, and peripherals connected to it, and while you describe it as being used as a 'home server' exactly what is it that it does?
You could be suffering kernel panics as a result of several things, not least that there is something still on the system from the prior OS that Leopard isn't compatible with and which would have justified an erase and install and a full reinstall of software; that there is software in use which is not fully Leopard compatible; that there is an external device which is causing the problem; that there is an internal hardware problem - typically RAM.

  • Mac mini Leopard  connects to Apple extreme BUT XP WONT CONNECT HELP PLEASE

*I have a new mac mini intel 1.83 ghz Core 2 Duo I used bootcamp to partition Windows XP pro SP2*
*I was initially easily able to connect to my wireless Apple extreme in either Leopord 10.5.4 or Windows XP.*
*I then installed all the new (100) security updates for SP2 and now Windows XP sees my airport extreme but for some reason can't connect. I set up the Wizard using a manual network key and using the same password for my network connection. When I startup in Leopard 10.5.4 no problems always connected to Airport extreme. But no connection on Windows XP to wirelessx Apple extreme.*
*I wonder if anyone has a solution, maybe a detailed explanation how to set up with the Windows XP network wizard?*
*Does the Apple AirPort Utility Setup 5.3.2 for windows help in any way?*
    *Thanks in advance!*

I have no idea what happened. I plugged in my USB flash drive in an attempt
to run the Apple Airport utility for windows to see if that would get me connected, but just as I plugged in the USB drive my wireless connection flashed and said CONNECTED and I've been good for the past 12 hours. I never had to use the Apple Airport utility.
I just wish I knew what happened in case I lose this connection and have to try & reconnect....I guess I could always try inserting a usb drive!

  • Mac mini HDMI 1080p SUCCESS with Panasonic 50" TH-50PZ81B

I recently purchased a Panasonic TH-50PZ81B. This is a UK model with a built-in satellite ("Freesat") receiver, and displays full 1080p and uses a 1920 x 1080 native panel. I used to connect my Mac mini HTPC to a Sony 42" plasma by VGA, and the Panasonic has a VGA input which displays 1,368 x 768 out of the box - no SwitchResX. It's decent. But, I wanted the "full" 1080p so bought the Belkin DVI-HDMI cable. Like a lot of people I got the choice of either the big black bars all around, or enabling "overscan" in Displays which would fill the screen, but, well, overscan! I spent all morning playing with SwitchResX and it just wasn't working (and the instructions at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=751713 bothered me in that it seems to suggest you need to increase the resolution so it wouldn't be 1:1 pixel mapping). I tried to look at the service menu but it wasn't obvious what to do so I left it alone, and there is no manual picture adjustment like there was on my old Sony. Urgh.
But, by chance I noticed in the TV's Menu -> Settings menu on page 2 there is an option for Picture Overscan, which was turned on. I turned if off, and just like that got full 1080p 1:1 pixel mapping.
So, that's Mac mini with overscan ON. Use the great (weird) advice from Adam Nash to enable the Display menu bar item as seen here:
    http://blog.adamnash.com/2008/01/24/yes-you-can-get-1080p-out-of-a-mac-mini/
It works - you have two identical-looking outputs but your TV will tell you one is 1080i and the other is 1080p.
On the TV settings go Menu -> Settings -> Picture Overscan and make sure it's OFF. Done!
I don't know if other Panasonic screens are similar but I can tell from the frustration on other posts - which I shared, believe me - that there are a lot of people with this issue wondering why SwitchResX is so non-intuitive etc. so I am hoping that for all those people who know how to use Google, this will show up in their searches.

I decided to post in the display forum because it was fine outputing via DVI-HDMI to a 1368*768 TV, and also fine via D-sub to the Full HD TV (although at 1368*768, but that's the limitation of the TV)
But thanks for your advice. I'll post there as well

  • How to backup Mac mini OS 10.4.5

    Hey guys.
I'm having on h3|| of a time trying to find out how I can back up a friends Mac mini with OS 10.4.5 on it. I need to back it up so, I can upgrade it to snow leopard.
I have already tried copying the main HDD to an external drive and, I get an error.
Also, am I able to use time machine on this early of a version? I have done some research on this but, conveniently, Apple seems to be very vague about what OS versions time machine supports or, supplying a full version on line to down load.
So, needless to say, any help at all would be great.
    Thanx

Is there a way that I can simply "copy" the hard drive onto an external HDD like one does in windowz?
Lookin for the easiest and, least cost intensive way of doing this.
Or, is there some freeware or, open source apps I can utilize??

  • How To Run 10.5 Leopard on an External HD

How do I successfully install and run Mac OS 10.5 Leopard on an external hard drive?

    Hi
Connect the drive, insert the installer disk, boot from it, select the external drive when the installer assistant prompts you for a destination drive. Format it first using DU from the Utilities Menu.
When installed it should boot from it. If it does not you select it via the Startup Disk Preference Pane or holding down the alt key on reboot.
