How to run server application on that talks to applet in embeded in webpage

i have a client(applet) and server application that are designed to communicate via sockets. the applet will run from a webpage and i know how to publish that. but the problem is the server application. i have been told that it too should run on my host, but how can i specify that and how to find out whether or not my host allows such a thing.
any clarifying reply would be highly appreciated.

If thinking about a Java solution, look at JSP/Servlet technology. (i.e. http://jakarta.apache.org)
In short, servlets a classes that run in a container accesible by HTTP.
There is also J2EE, wich uses RMI to perform this task.

Hi! I've programmed for years JSP, Servlets and Applets, but never a desktop application, so... my problem is that I don't have any idea on how to run it. I mean, of course I know how to run some application in my own desktop (java applicationname) but my doubt is, what I need to install in the client desktop or how must I do my package in order to run without the need for installing the SDK. Because, as I known, the "java.exe" comes with SDK, and of course, I don't think that I need to install de entire SDK in all my clients desktops in order to run my application.

You should give them the Java Runtime Environment. You will find a java.exe there too. E.g.
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02
The principle problems you will have to consider are:
1.) How easy, and often, will you have to update your program? You might need to consider something like Java Webstart, for example.
2.) What are the security considerations? If you need access to a database you will have difficulty keeping passwords secure. You may want to obfiscate code, for example.
3.) If the applications are communicating with a central resource how will you deal with simultaneous usage. Coming from a web application background this is nothing new to you I guess but you may want to consider a J2EE application server, for example.
4.) You need to consider whether you stick with what you know and develop an intranet approach to internal applications.

I'm not running any weird background processes and in my energy saver settings I've tagged "put the hard disk to sleep when possible:, "allow power button to put computer to sleep" and "automatically reduce brigthness". All pretty standard.

Today I solved the same problem for my iMac running Snow Leopard. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3008791#15947706. The method may help you, too.
For me it was the DynDNS Updater preventing my iMac from automatically entering sleep mode.
To my knowledge the cause of this sleep problem can only be a peripheral device or a process. So I suggest to first unplug all peripherals and test whether that's the cause. If not, I suggest to terminate one process after another and to test automatic entering of sleep mode after each. Start with user processes; continue with system process if necessary.
At least that's the way I found the offending process. Fortunately, I was able to change the configuration of that process to allow again automatic entering of sleep mode.

As told numerous times on this forum, personilization values only affect if at coding level that property is not set, if in controller code initial value property has already been set, then it will take over your personilzation properties. So better check and confirm this!

and even you can run all the reports on a single report server
to the below location.

create a new enviroment file(for eg fd.env) using the default.env as follows and make the following FORM_PATH and REPORTS_PATH changes in the fd.env

now for about accessing the seperate application then
use as follows
1st application
http://ip address:7778/forms/frmservlet?config=xyz
2nd application
http://ip address:7778/forms/frmservlet?config=fd
you can even deploy 2 war files on one application server...and you can even make these 2 war files to access the same report server

I installed jboss-4.2.2.GA and extracted richfaces-ui-3.2.1.GA-src in the jboss-4.2.2.GA\server\default\deploy folder.
But while running richfaces application through http://localhost:8080/richfaces-ui-3.2.1.GA-src , showing "HTTP Status 404 - /richfaces-ui-3.2.1.GA-src" error. I tried to run other simple applications, but those are also not running, as the same error showing "HTTP Status 404"....
please help me asap.

I'm sorry man, but you are not getting out the easy way no matter how many times you post the same question. Whole books have been written on the subjects of JBoss and JSF and you are going to have to read at least some articles online if you are going to get anywhere. It is not something that has a simple 123 step guide, this is complex material that requires research, study and effort to accomplish.
So your first step is to go figure out what the structure of a JSF web application is and how to deploy one to JBoss. Good luck.

Jad Application contains the jar url as MIDlet-Jar-URL: http://localhost:8080/contentTest/RightsSample.drc. While loading jad Application into the mobile device(I'm testing using SDK 6230i) it shows as "Invalid Application". How to handle this?? Could you anyone help me

Its simply a matter of opinion, but I'm 3-months-in, developing for WM5 + WM6 and the only usable solution I've found that has the correct look and feel on Windows Mobile as well as JSR support is IBM's J9.
