How to salvage Apple TV content when your computer hard drive dies????

The hard drive in my macbook Pro croaked last night! That was bad enough....but now that I have installed another drive and a fresh installation of iTunes I find myself trying to figure out how to get the data off of mt Apple TV and back into iTunes. If I just allow it to sync, it will clear the apple TV and my iPod. I am in process of using Senuti to get my iPod contents back.....but can someone tell me how to get at the Apple TV data???

This seems to be a recurring theme here. I advised somebody to just take the Apple TV back to the Apple Store to have one of the "geniuses" retrieve the data. However, I just found out that they don't do this.
There is a way to get your information back though. Write to me at [email protected] and I can probably help you. It involves some steps not koshered to be published on this board.
I can guarantee that if I posted the solution here, the moderators will just take it down immediately. The moderators here just love to take down my posts.
And all I do is help people. Oh, yes, I'm bitter.

  • How can Time Machine backup automatically when your external hard drive isn't connected?

Everywhere I search, it says that Time Machine will automatically backup every 24 hours and so on.
However, I was wondering - how can these automatic backups take place if you are backing up to an external hard drive which is not always connected?
Is this to say that if you do not connect your external hard drive for a day, no backups will be done that day?
    Thank you

If the drive is not connected then TM pauses until the drive becomes available. Yes, if the drive isn't connected then there are no backups.

  • Windows computer hard drive failed, data lost and not backed up.  all music and pictures on ipod, much music from cd's entered into itunes years ago.  How do I retrieve from ipod onto new computer hard drive?

windows computer hard drive failed; data lost.  have new blank hard drive.  Can I load ipod music and photos back onto new hard drive?

    Hi Perilman,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that all of your iTunes media is on an external hard drive and you would like to move that media onto your new Windows computer hard drive. The following article has step by step instructions for this specifically. Part 5 in the External drive section is probably what is going to be most relevant to you.

  • How can I download iPod content to a new hard drive installed on my laptop

I had to get a new drive for my laptop and the data on my old drive was unrecoverable.  I do have all my photos and music on my iPod classic  Can I retrieve them from there?

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Keep in mind that the recovered photos will not be in their full resolution, but instead will be the scaled down versions that were optimized in size and resolution to fit your iPod's smaller LCD screen.

  • How to undo the file sharing in your internal hard drive in Macbook?

I thought the way to lock and unlock a file would also be the same procedure when locking the internal hard drive?
Basically what happened is that I have an icon on my desktop (top-right corner) where I can access my applications, home, etc.
I thought I could privitize my whole entire system if I just change the file sharing into "Read Only (Drop Box)" status.
So I right-click on the icon, then clicked "Get Info," then clicked the lock button then it asked me for my password to be able to make changes.
My fault was I made the "Home" and "Admin" to "Read Only (Drop Box) status and "Other Users" to "No Access" file sharing.
Now in result I cannot click on anything. All the applications are lock. Even the System Preferences.
Another problem I came across is that I tried to turn my MacBook on...and it would just stay on the white screen with the apple logo and it would just load for ever.
So overall, my whole entire mac system is locked, can't open anything and I cannot turn on my Mac.
I tried calling the Apple call support services. But my warranty has expired. I could pay for it, but I really do want to save.
I hope someone can tell me a good solution. Next time I'll make sure not to do experiments anymore and stick to what I know.

You need to do it as soon as you turn the computer back on. If you have a firmware password set on the computer, you'll need to know it and have a Mac OS X install DVD; if you don't have either and a firmware password is set, contact Apple.

  • Make sure your computer hard drive has enough space before attempting to update your iPhone!

I made the mistake of updating my iPhone 4 last night to 4.3.3, after almost 40 mins of download, updates and veryfying a warning popped up that there was a problem with my phone and that I had to restore it to the factory settings. I did this, then synced my phone again to get all my data back on it. After almost an hour of faffing, it then tells me that my computer didn't have enough space to peform the back up and I ended up losing all my contacts, apps and worse of all, my photos!!!
Why on earth did a warning not come up in the first place that there was not enough room to backup my iPhone onto my hard drive (which is a Power Mac G5 I might add) before it started to update or back it up!
Contacts are easy to get back, music can be uploaded again, apps I can get back from the app store but my photos are gone and they are the things that are irreplacable. I find the whole process of using iTunes and pain in the a*%e and I'm sure I'm not the only person who has had their iPhone wiped and I won't be the last.
So, a warning to all, you have to manually check you have enough space on your hard drive before you plug your iPhone into your computer or you'll lose everything.

Another warning to all is to maintain backups of any data you care about.

  • How to reinstall windows 8.1 when your computer came pre-installed with windows 8

Hello, so my current installation of Windows 8.1 has gotten horribly corrupted. Almost everytime I boot up, the computer wants to check for disk errors, so I decided to buy a new disk, and I cloned my previous disk over to the new disk using AOMEI Backupper.
However, this cloned drive will not boot up. I am thinking that I will have to give in to the inevitable and just re-install my windows 8 installation, but before I do so, where is the product key I will need to activate the installation. I've heard on the
web that the key resides on the BIOS chip, but then do I need the code to activate the installation? I am also using a windows 8.1 repair disk and my computer came with windows 8, will the code work for both? I have tried booting up from the repair disk, and
used the fix issues preventing start up feature, but it has done nothing, my computer still will not boot up. When I go to try to refresh my installation, it reports that the disk is locked. Please help, I cannot go back to my old disk, every time I run it,
    more files get corrupt.

  • How to set up One iTunes Library with Multiple Hard Drives

    Hello,
I have a question about setting up a daisy chain of external storage hard drives for my itunes library and need some advice.  I have run out of room on my 4TB external storage.  I have an additional 4TB and a 2TB external storage (all are MyBooks) and trying to figure out how to separate out my itunes folder:  I would like to put the TV on one 4TB and the Movies and the other 4TB and the Music/Apps/etc on the 2TB.  Here are my questions
1.) How to I point my iTunes to where I have moved them?  Just make and alias of the folder and put that back in the original folder?
2.) How do I get the new iTunes downloads to go the correct folder to download so it does not set up a new library for downloading?  Can I set more that one location in my preference?  If so- how?
I have looked in the forums and all the information is older and does not address this exact issue.
    Set up:
Mac mini hooked up to Vizio TV running Lion 10.7.2
Processor 2.26 GHZ Intel Core Duo 2
Memory 4GB ( do not really store anything on this one)
    MY Books
1  2TB   Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
2  4TB   Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1  1TB   Mac OS Extended (Journaled)-  this is for documents, etc
All these are daisy chain with 800 Firewire to the Macmini and hooked to TV with HDMI.
Any suggestions would be helpful.  I can not download anything else from iTunes until I get this resolved and it is a real bummer.

Here are three different methods >
How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
This article > iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
    suggests using contacts groups.
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
You can set up groups in the Address Book application.
If you are all going to use the same iTunes apps library, turn off "Automatically sync new apps" in the apps tab just below the list of apps.  Then you won't get new apps on your device unless you select them.

Hello, your best bet would be to clone your drive to an external drive, which will be bootable.

You're not likely to see any updates show up for 10.5.x
The very first MacBook 1,1s can actually run 10.6, which is updatable to 10.6.8, but will only run in 32 bit mode on yours.

    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor

  • When your computer crashes how do your get the music on your iphone back on your new computer

when your computer crashes how do your get the music on your iphone back on your new computer?

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • How do you receive a call on your computer with the new OS X?

How do you receive a call on your computer with the new OS X?

The following quotation is from http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/continuity/
The link shows a picture of the Notification. Below it says there is "nothing to set up" but I believe that you need to have FaceTime activated (signed in) on both devices as there is a setting on iPhone/iPad in Settings > FaceTime where you turn "iPhone Cellular Calls" on/off.
Sometimes when your iPhone rings, it’s not where you are. Maybe it’s charging in another room. Or it’s buried in your backpack. But your Mac or iPad is sitting right there. Now you can make and receive phone calls on those devices as long as your iPhone running iOS 8 is on the same Wi-Fi network. Incoming calls show the caller’s name, number, and profile picture. Just click or swipe the notification to answer, ignore, or respond with a quick message. And making a phone call from your iPad or Mac is just as easy. Simply tap or click a phone number in Contacts, Calendar, or Safari. It all works with your existing iPhone number, so there’s nothing to set up.

Assuming that your library is presently on your laptop, you have to import the music from the external drive to the laptop. The location of of your iTunes Media folder is identified in iTunes>Preferences>Advanced.
