How to save as in a non browseble network drive

Hello,
is there a way i can perform a save as to a non browseble drive but it's mounted and I can see it on the desktop?
Thanks,
Butch

What do you mean by "non-browseable"?  In terms of "mount" (the Terminal command that mounts drives, network or otherwise) "nobrowse" specifically means,
This option indicates that the mount point should not be visible via the GUI (i.e., appear on the Desktop as a separate volume).
But your drive is visible on the Desktop.
Normally, access to all mounted drives and shares is available from the Save As… dialogue.  Maybe you're not browsing high enough in the structure.  If the drive doesn't appear in the Sidebar, try selecting your Macintosh HD in the Sidebar and then pressing Command-Up Arrow (⌘↑). This should take you to the very top of your folder structure (root).  If you can't see your drive there, you may have to supply more info regarding your situation.

  • How to set up and auto-mirror a networked drive?

So here's the situation.  I currently have a MBP Retina 15 (max spec'd), and there are some design processes that still run a little slow for my liking.  Given that I spend about half my working life at a desk plugged into a monitor anyway, I figured I'd get a Mac Pro to use when I'm in the office.
What I need help with is how to:
-Set up an external networked drive so that I can open and save all my projects to the same place regardless of which machine I'm working on.  I spend 90% of my laptop working time at home on the same network.
-Have the networked drive auto-back up to another external storage device so that in case of HD failure.  Basically I want to save a file, and have it expeditiously (ideally instantly, but the sooner the better) back up to the secondary HD.
Somebody at the Apple Store suggested using a USB HD plugged into Airport Extreme, and that would work, I suppose, but
    1) I'd really prefer something plugged in to the Mac Pro to speed up the data transfer at least one one machine.
    2) There's only 1 USB port on the Airport Extreme.  So if we were to go this way, the back up mechanism would need to be built in to the drive -- some sort of double external HD that auto-mirrors.
    Any suggestions?

    Could you use textarea?
    sym.$('inputfiled').html('<textarea cols="20" rows="3"></textarea>);
actually the form I used in the file is:
    inputMessage = $('<textarea />').attr({'type':'textarea','rows':'10', 'cols': '25','value':'', 'id':'message'});

  • How do I delete files from HFS+-formatted network drive

    Relevant system components:
Very recent iterations of a MBA and MBP both running 10.7.4
Cisco Linksys e4200v1 wireless router, FWver1.0.04
Seagate 1.5 Tb FA GoFlex external drive
Full-size, single partition reformated by DiskUtility to HFS+ (Mac extended volume, Journaled)
Connected by USB to storage port on e4200
Storage set to share at root with either Anon r&w access or admin level user acct.
    Demonstrated read and write access
I have set up an external drive as above.  The drive is to be used to archive large amounts of uncommonly used data (not a backup) and then is backed up to crashplan+ off-site.
The drive came formatted as FAT32 (I believe.) As we still have one PC and all individual files are smaller than 4Gb, I set up the archive drive as formated out of the box.
Data was written to the drive without issue, backed upi off-site with no issue and accessed a couple times.
The issue came when recently upgraded some itunes albums.  These albums had been previously removed from the library and from the computer and stored in the archive drive.  These albums were upgraded and redownloaded from apple generating a copy of the album data, but in a superior format (no-drm, greater sampling rate.) This made the archived files obsolete and generated a risk of mixing versions.  I decided to delete the obsolete files from archive.
When I attempted to do this by selecting, right-clicking and chosing "move to trash"  I was prompted that this was not a "undo-able" action, suggesting that while I was selecting "move to trash," the action would not generate a copy in the trash.  Next I was prompted to enter my user and PW.  The only user and PW combo that would not cause the dialog to "shake it's head" at me, was my computer user-specific password.  The network or drive associated user and PW combos would not take.  When I entered my computer user and PW, it was accepted, but a dialog labeled "Trash" popped up with small font, reading "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items."
Trying to delete only a random selection of one or two files would not work.
I checked the drive permissions and was only able to see "You have custom access."  This is not modifiable.  I attempted to alter my access permissions from the router, but made no headway.  Again, I could read and write, as the router setup suggests, but not "modify," to use a windows term.
Assuming, with little data, that the FAT32 was perhaps at issue I unmounted the network drive, connected it by USB and reformated as above.  After formating, I tried the same procedure with no change in outcome.
I am nearly 100% sure that when the drive was connected by usb, I could delete to my heart's content, but not when it is connected via network.
I will note that the drive is accessed by first connecting to the router, which the mac sees as a "PC."  This access can be controlled, but can be set to anon.
When I connect I see two identically named folders.  One is a sharepoint folder and one is a volume.  They access the same data. Deleting thorugh either route has identical outcomes.
As I am a complete newb to Macs, I am really not sure where I should even begin to look for access.  Should I bind my router access to my user acct?  Is this even doable? Can I reset permissions to this folder through the terminal?  Is this really a Cisco or Seagate issue?
Any knowledgable advice is appretiated.  I can do the speculating.

    Ugh.
This is not an Apple issue.  This is a permission issue associated directly with the router.  No settings on the mac need to be touched to solve this issue.
In this specific case, it was required that I enter into the router storage settings (192.168.0.1,) disable all anon access, save settings, log in as admin (or just r&w) PRIOR TO deleting the files, then delete the files.
I was trying to enter login info AFTER trying to delete the files. Obviously, that didn't work.
Anyway.  I hope this might help someone.

  • How to get rid of samba reference in network drive list

    My server died (NOWS); battery on ups failed; that is all fixed now;
When I first booted it, none of us could log on (I should have just waited a while); I went to Remote Manager and noticed a lot of things not running and loaded them all.
    We all logged in.
Later I noticed that when I'm browsing the drives in "My Computer" on Windows XP, instead of just showing the drive it now says "Sys on 'Samba 3.0.36-0.13.14.1-2500-SUSE-CODE10 (Hbwv)' (F:)"
I rebooted the server today after first downing my workstation, and didn't load all the stuff that wasn't loaded after I figured out I didn't need that other stuff like nfserver, etc. I thought by doing this the reference to Samba would go away. After the server booted, I then booted my workstation and logged in, everything working perfectly but still has the Samba reference in the list of Network Drives. Could someone help me get rid of that, thanks.

  • LMS 4.2 virtual appliance: How to export archive devices configs on a network drive

    Hello,
I will install a new LMS 4.2 based on a virtual Linux Red Hat appliance.
I would like to export archive devices configurations based on /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/shadow on an external drive.
Do we have embedded tools on LMS 4.2 Linux to share a network drive or do we use NFS commands ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Patrice

there are no such embedded tools.
I am awaiting Ciscos return with a solution for bringing the backup out of the VA (Virtual Appliance) and to a safekeeping place.
Same issue all around - the VA is now a client only !
I saw a hack around the SCP user inorder to use WinSCP for faster file browsing etc, and that might work, but I want a supported fix for this issue. And by that I mean Cisco needs to tell me what can be done and how its supported.
please share any knowledge you might get on this topic.

  • How to move music in 3 locations to network drive

When I recently installed iTunes, I added music to my iTunes from 2 locations - My Music, My eMusic. I have also put music into the iTunes folder. So, my music is located in 3 different locations.
Now I would like to move everything to a new network drive and keep it all there instead of my laptop. I understand how to move just the iTunes folder and playlists but how do I go about changing the location of all my music and still maintain my library and playlists?
    I appreciate your help!

It would be much easier if you would accept all your music being in in the iTunes Music folder on the network drive.
Then you just set the location of the new iTunes Music folder in your preferences and consolidate.
There is an article on moving iTunes music file this here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305451
If you must retain your folder arrangement outside the iTunes Music folder then you can't get all your meta data, but you can get some.
This involves manually editing iTunes Music Library.xml with WordPad. You can use search and replace to set new path values. It goes without saying that you should work on a copy of the xml file.
If you look in the xml file you will see that lines starting with:
<key>Location</key> contain paths. These are what have to be changed.
I would say that if you can't work how to do this your self, you should not attempt it.
Once you have all your music files where you want them, you recreate your iTunes Music folder from the edited version of the xml file according to this method:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
I would recommend that you copy your files to the new location leaving everything intact where it is. This means you retain a working set up while you experiment. You can also use the shift key start mechanism to create a new library file to experiment on so you keep the original intact. Or at least make a backup copy of your original library file.
I should add that it if this fills you with horror and you can accept losing metadata, you just copy your music to the new locations, then with iTunes closed, drag iTunes Library.itl from the iTunes folder to your desktop. Then when you open iTunes an empty library is created. The you just use File>>Add folder to Library... to add your music folders. Also set the new location of the iTunes Music folder in preferences.

  • How do I allow access to non admin network users to disk volume?

I would like to allow access to a specific volume (disk) on one of our networked macs (Mac1) to all users. I've set user accounts on Mac 1 for all network users. These users are "regular" users, not admin. They can access this disk (and all others on Mac1) if I log in as Admin set Users to Admin. If I do this, then users have access to ALL data on all disks. If I do not, leaving them as "regular" users, when they log in they only see public folders. How can I allow access to the one disk volume without making network users admin? I tried changing various settings for the volume in Finder Info (everone else=read/write; ignore permissions) with no luck.
    Thanks
iMac, ibooks, G5, Tibook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Your observations are correct - by default, an "admin" user connecting over AFP can choose from available "volumes" (default) or "shares", whereas a non-admin user can only mount "shares".
By default, the only "shares" on an OS X client machine are the users' "Public" folders, and unlike pre-OS X Macs, it isn't easy to configure your own share points. Apple's official statement is that users wanting this functionality should buy OS X Server.
However, it is possible to create an arbitrary share point using 3rd party software called "SharePoints" (donationware). I have never used it, but it seems to be well regarded. Alternatively, you can do it manually following the instructions in this hint & comments (especially apw8's):
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20011108161839416
Once the external drive (or folder on the external drive) is configured as a share point, it should be possible for non-admin users to select and mount it once they connect over AFP.

  • How to save your photos to a usb flash drive

Hi, I was wondering how I can remove my Photos using a usb flash drive. I know I can save them in the Cloud and prefer not too. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

You're going to need a computer to do this, no direct way. For instance you could send them to Dropbox, then from there use a computer to download the files from Dropbox to a flash. Or use a WiFi transfer App on the iPad to send the photos to a computer than has the desktop version of the App, and then copy to flash drive.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Yes this is very easy.  Just go into Finder and Press Shift+Command+G and Paste this in there
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books
Those folders are actually the books, they just dont look like them.

  • How to save Flip video files to external hard drive (and need new vid camera rec)?

I am trying to back up my Flip videos from my MacBook OS X 10.5.8 on to my external hard drive. They will not drop & drag directly from the flipshare software and I did locate all the mp4 files in my finder under "All Videos" where I think I can copy them over but they are not organized by title or anything and I only want to back up the clips I've edited and the movies I've created, not all the raw footage.
I'm wondering if I'm going to have to import all of these files into iMovie in order to do this in a way that will be helpful? that seems like it will take forever since *I think* you have to do them one at a time and I have almost 2 years of footage of my kids...Is there a quick way to import video into iMovie?
Side bar, anyone know of a good video camera that is small & easy like Flip but not part of a phone? My flip has died & since Cisco is abandoning the brand, I need something new.

  • How can i use time machine with a network drive

I have a Western Digital Net N900 wireless router with a 2TB internal H/D. How can I get Time Machine to reconize it?

Relying only on TM to me is iffy but I would bet you have clones in addition to TM like I do.  I agree with everything you said but to the OP question, it is possible.  A time capsule or AEBS+HD are pretty similar but one is officially supported while the later is not.
Since I'm rambling a bit I will add this.  I only use TM for the times I delete something and then wish I had it back.  All my restores or migrations are done from my clones.  One clone is made weekly and is a snap shot of my system.  One clone I keep remotely located and is updated monthly.
    My system:
    Internal 1TB
    Ext HD1 2TB (1TB data, 1TB clone)
Ext HD2 2TB time machine backup (internal + HD1 data, not the clone)
    Remote 1TB clone
I'm fully redudant with my method and it has saved me before.

  • Using my Mac, I cannot save a file back to the network drive from which it was opened.

This began occurring after upgrading to Yosemite. I can rename the file and "Save As", but merely attempting to save it gives a permissions error. "Get info" says I have full permissions to the file. I can save documents locally with no problem. It is not a problem with permissions on the server, as from my PC using the same login account, I can save to the drive just fine. It is only an issue on the Mac. It is only Photoshop that presents this problem; all other programs, Adobe and otherwise, allow saving to this drive with no issue. Tried resetting preferences to no avail. CS6 and OSX are both fully updated.

There is no way to backup the TC via Time Machine or internally.. so any file you place on the TC is at risk. You can certainly store it there.. and for a downloaded movie you may not worry particularly.. but if you wanted to build up a movie library on the TC (outside of itunes) then TC is not really suited to the task. You would really be better with an external drive plugged into the mini.

I cannot seem to get Spotlight to search on my network drive.
There is a file on my network drive and I simply cannot find it.
    What is the secret?

Have you tried cmd-F in the Finder to bring up the finder search window. Do this when you've got a Finder window for your network drive open, and then you should be able to select the folder name of the mounted network resource and then do a search for either file contents or name.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Do you want to merge these libraries into one? If so, then you'll need the paid version ($20) of  iPhoto Library Manager
It's the only way to merge Libraries while preserving all metadata, versions and so on.
Otherwise, simply rename one of the Libraries (so they don't overwite each other) and Copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder to the External Disk. in each case.
To choose which library to open: holf down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location.
