How to save gifs in iPhoto?

Or something like that. I just got this computer yesterday, so it's all new and up to date. All of the questions on this that I have read have been from a few years ago and don't work with my computer. I love saving gifs, they're so fun! But I tried saving it in iPhoto and, well, it turned into a photo. Where else could I save it to keep it as a moving gif?

oops, didn't post full details. I want to get my computer to save moving photos or gifs. I have a MacBook Pro without retina display.

  • How to save settings in iPhoto '11 (9.1.3)?

Hello, does everybody know how to save settings in iPhoto '11 (9.1.3)? Always when I change settings, for example when I check "Copy items to the Library", it is after new start up restored to the default. Also every start up appears "Welcome to iPhoto" and I'm not able to switch it off.

Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Sorry folks, I did something bad, I was looking how to save my current iphoto library to my external drive and I hit a wrong button, lost my current iphoto and now have only the backed up version from 2007, Woops I never was the quick witted one... PLEASE

I switched my current iphoto library out for the saved one on my external drive by mistake. It said, Switch Libraries.... Do you want to switch the current iphoto library from AAA iphoto library (what I called the old one I guess - in my OWC) toOWC Mercury on-the-go and relaunch iphoto? cancel or relaunch
Sorry, I was looking for a way to save my current iphoto images to my hard drive. Yeah, I guess just drag something over right? Anyway, now I cannot retrieve my last 2 or 3 years of photos, Can You HELP me?
    Mac os X  version 10.6.8
2.66 GHz Intel core 2 Duo
    etc

Depress the option key and launch iPhoto = use teh select library option and select the correct one
yes to move your library to an external drive
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • IMac crashed, how to save previous version iPhoto files?

hi, my late 2012 iMac crashed last week & I just got it back from the repair shop yesterday.
The technician wiped everything & reinstalled all except iPhoto (I believe my original version was 9.4.2).
My OS is now upgraded to 10.9.4
I'm very concerned about losing all my photo files,
and they don't seem to be available/show up on iCloud. I can view some through my iPhone though.
I noticed that I could download the latest iPhoto version, 9.5.1 which I did, but it seems that it does not support previous
versions and will not cooperate with the photo files that are hopefully still on my iPhone. So right now there is no
iPhoto app on my iMac... is it possible to download the previous iPhoto version (to try and import any saved iPhoto files
    from a backup drive?)
I'm sorry that I'm a newbie/basic questions here... just concerned about my existing photo files/losing photos if I upgrade
to 9.5.1.   Or just deal with photo loss & update iPhoto now?  (ps) when I sign into iCloud, there is no iPhoto app icon showing/
no photos backed up there (just the ones that are appearing on my iPhone in the iPhoto app libraries)
any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.
    Maria

Are you saying you don't have any form or backup? If your internal HD crashed and was replaced and you did not have any backup then your photos are probably gone. If you were using a Time Machine backup (see info below) then restoring your photos and other valuable info is easy. If not, then you might have to consider this an valuable lesson.
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
Without being sure what the tech did  you can attempt to restrore you iPHoto library. You can learn how by clicking
iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library

  • How to save GIF frames into BufferedImage with TYPE_BYTE_INDEXED?

    Hi All,
I have a code that saves every animated GIF frame into BufferedImage of TYPE_INT_ARGB. So an animated GIF will correspond to a list of images with 32-bit pixel size.
I mainly refer to the code in
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=20&threadID=629277
But what I need to do now is to store each frame into TYPE_BYTE_INDEXED image instead. What I'm doing is I get the IndexColorModel from the first frame, and that color model will be shared for all frames.
As for the frames, I've been trying several ways:
*1.* read it per usual into 32-bit pixel size image
    sourceImage        = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_ARGB);
RenderedImage renderedImg = reader.readAsRenderedImage(index, null);*reader is the ImageReader for the GIF file.
then trying to convert the image into 8-bit pixel size by creating new destination image
BufferedImage destImage = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_BYTE_INDEXED, ICM);and then draw the original (32-bit pixel size) onto the newly created image.
    Graphics2D g = destImage.createGraphics();
    g.setComposite(AlphaComposite.getInstance(AlphaComposite.SRC));
g.drawImage(sourceImage, imageLeft, imageTop, null);*2.* read it as:
BufferedImage sourceImage = reader.read(index);then create new 8-bit image and draw the source onto it as No. 1.
The problem is, for No. 1 , the destination image always lose its transparency. And No. 2 only works well with some GIFs. But mostly the destination image will lose the transparency as well.
I hope someone more familiar with java imaging can help point out to me where did I do wrong...
I'm thinking maybe the way I draw the source onto the destination. Or maybe there's another way of getting GIF frames into TYPE_BYTE_INDEXED images..
    Thank you in advanced :)

I found that java has weird issues with GIF's (ImageIO wont even write transparency to GIFs when writing to a file).
But PNGs seemed to work a lot better. Not sure if it will fix your problem, as I don't know all that much about java imaging, but using PNGs seemed to work a lot better for me when I needed to draw transparency.

  • How do I save photos from iphoto to external hd without Time Machine?

I have a seagate 320gb freeagent external hard drive and would like to know how to save my iphoto pictures on it. I cant seem to drag & drop folders from the application & Help only mentions using Time Machine which I dont particularly want to do (I had a Lacie hd connected to Time Machine & it made a very loud humming noise then I knocked it over so that was that, so now I'm starting again with the Seagate). Please could someone explain in very simple language how I can achieve this as I need to back up a couple of thousand photos to make room on my imac.
    Thankyou
    Sara

    Sara
Use a back up utility such as DejaVu to make incremental back ups of your Library. The first time you run it it will back up the entire Library, thereafter it will keep the back up up-to-date with the changes in your Library. There are other apps that will do this job. Search on MacUpdate

  • How to save iPhoto file in a separate portable hard disk drive?

How to save iPhoto file in a separate portable hard disk drive?

You want to move the iPhoto Library?
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

when i import photos from my camera they save in the iphoto section but how do I then save those as jpeg files so that i can upload them to emails or to kodal gallery etc.

  • How do I save a still that I have extracted from iMovie and save it to iPhoto?

I'm trying to save a still that I have extracted from imovie.  So far, all I can see is that it can be saved in the imovie project.  I need to save it to iphoto.  Any help would be appreciated.  I'm running Lion and have aperture too.

Imovie 11? It isn't that easy. You could navigate to the movie event, drag that into Streamclip, and use MPeg streamclip to make a still from the movie. The freeze frame isn't a photo you can get out of imovie, as far as I know.
Here is a youtube video on how to do it with iMovie 11.

  • How to save iPhoto images on disc

Trying to save space on My HD, can't figure out how to save an album to a disc

after having used iPhoto 08 for a long time the link between the program and the source files broke. i have a hard time restoring the library. how can i import ALL images on my harddisc into iphoto? is there a function that scans and finds all images automatically?
You really would not want to do this - you would have a mess - many duplicates and lots of images that have nothing to do with photos
Tell us more about your problem - what is happening and how it occurred
Most likely you have all of your original Photos in the originals folder of your iPhoto library and simply quitting iPhoto, dragging the iPhoto library to the desktop, launching iPhoto and creating a new library and dragging each folder from the originals folder in your iPhoto library on the desktop onto the iPhoto icon in the dock (check to be sure that the iPhoto preference to split items imported from the finder is NOT checked) - this will recreate your events
If this is not an option their probably is still help

  • How to save photoshop CS5 extended edited photos in iphoto on Mac?

Hi this is my first post on here, so i'm unsure if i have put my question in the right place? etc....?
I have only just purchased CS5 extended and have just been on a intro course, and today decided to edit a few of my photos in photoshop.
i opened my photo from iphoto and edited it fine, that part was fairly easy to do, once i had finished i then went to file to save my photo, which i thought was straight forward as per click on 'save' once i had done that i closed the photo down, then moved onto another photo to edit.
after which i was looking through the iphoto folder, and i noticed that the photos i had edited using photoshop were still showing the parts of the picture that i had edited out i.e. overhead cables were showing in the picture! when i clicked on the photo to make it larger the edited version appeared.. i.e. no cables were showing!!
now am i going mad here, how has this happened? the next time i did a 'save as' and selected to save as and replace the original, but yet again the small picture in the folder is still displaying the original, now how am i going to know which photos have been edited and which haven't unless i click on them to make them large and show up the edited version!!!!!  do i need to save the edited photo in a differnt way?
sorry for the long post but i wanted to give you all the info i thought might be of help.
Many thanks if you have read this far and i await your comments....Marie

    Forget about iPhoto. Honestly.
iPhoto doesn't play nice with Photoshop—or any other program, as a matter of fact.
iPhoto uses a "libraries" paradigm and buries your images deep in "packages" only iPhoto can access.  (Sure, there are workarounds, but what a hassle!).
I routinely delete the iPhoto application from all my OS X installs.
I suppose what you can do—if you insist on using that program—is to open the Photoshop-edited image with iPhoto and do a Save As from iPhoto itself.

  • How do I save websites to iPhoto?

I'm a freelance writer, including website content. I'd like to post the webpages I wrote in the portfolio section of my website (created in iWeb) as they appear online. How do I do that? I think I need to convert them to jpgs to save them to iPhoto first, right? But I don't know how to do that. I'd appreciate whatever help you can give me.

iPhoto has no ability to import Web sites and this is the first time I recall someone trying to use it for that purpose.
You could print the webite to pdf and then import the pdf to iPhoto.

  • How to save jpeg email attachment to iphoto?

i'm an iphoto (and mac os x) newbie, and i can't figure out how to save a jpeg attachment that someone has sent me so the image shows up in iphoto. what is the easiest way to do this? i'm using apple mail and iphoto 6 on a macbook pro running os 10.4.5. although occasionally i'd like to save jpegs from my web-based hotmail account too. thanks
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The easiest way to do this in Mail is; next to the attachment field in Mail, you'll see Save & Slideshow. Use the Save pull down menu to "add to iPhoto" & the Slideshow is just what it says, it will do a slideshow of the photos in your email attachment.
I don't use Hotmail, but I'm sure all you do is click on the image, File>Save>Desktop. From there you can drag the image into iPhoto. Or simply drag the image from Hotmail to your Desktop or directly into iPhoto.
    I hope that was helpful.

  • How to save RAW edits as 16-bit TIFF? Can't find in Aperture, easy on iPhoto

In iPhoto there is "advanced preferences" options to save RAW edits as 16-bit TIFF. Where is this option in Aperture?

I suppose I do not understand how Aperture saves processed RAW photos then; in iPhoto by contrast, the default saves them as JPEG unless the TIFF option is selected.
If you are shooting RAW, Aperture will always store the original RAW file and the sequence of adjustments to produce the image version. It does not render the edited image and create an image file. Only when you export the edited image or share it, will a file of the processed image created.
All editing is always done starting from the RAW file and adding all adjustments. You will see the resulting image in the browser, but the rendered image file will only be created when you need it outside Aperture, and then you can select a suitable export preset.  Edited image versions do not take up much extra space, only for thumbnails and optional JPEG previews.
