How to save iMov to mp4

I have a 10 second video I want to post on facebook.  It won't accept the iMOV Format and prefers mp4.  I know this is a simple change but I can't remember how to do it!  Help, please.

Try just changing the extension from .mov to .mp4 and first see it will play in Quicktime Player.  Then try to upload to Facebook and play there.

  • How to save an project in iMovie 10

I am familiar with iMovies 9 and using OSX 10.6.8.  Unfortunately I have a new MacPro on OS 10.9.2 and iMovie10 (give me back my old MAcbook any day). I have finished making the movie and saved it on the desktop in mp4 format.  All I want to do now  is to find out is how to save the movie I have made so I can possibly get to it again to maybe add/delete things from it. In other words, I simply want to save it -
    how do I do this?
can I save the movie in m4v format like I did in iMovie 9?
the mp4 format is 900Mb for 10 min, the 12 minute movie I did in iMovie 9 is 400Mb when both saved as 720p. Why?
Can you delete iMovie 10 from Mavericks and install iMovie 9
Many thanks in anticipation from a very frustrated Mac user of 8 years now thinking of going to Windows

Ok I think I've worked it out (did not know your could share to the theater, the icloud message made me assume theater was just for icloud) but I've another technical question about export quality and pictures in videos.
I just published four different quality movies (480p, 560p, 720p, 1080p) which only had a few average quality digital pics in them, just to create a short movie to compare.
I've always assumed that the quality of pictures was handled differently to video in that pictures would be fine quality even with lower quality setting, and the thing that really got hurt by lesser xxxP quality was the moving video not the pictures. But when I resized all four Quicktime movies so they were the same size and put them next to each other I could notice quite a difference in the sharpness between each of them. Since I'd rather have the pictures all used at their best quality will I have to choose the 60GB 1080p export function anyway at some point? It seems like such a waste of space and time when technically there are only about ten frames in the entire clip!
Surely there's some kind of video encoding language where you can make the file size reflect this? Kinda like what vector graphics did to bitmap formats for image files.
There must be a way round this ...

  • Imovie and mp4 files

I have a bunch of MP4 files that I want to use for projects in imovie but it says I need to open them with imovie and make them able to be shared. I can't open them with imovie- how can I use them?

yes, all of these would work
1-quick and simple method: Have Perian installed. Open video clip in quick time player. save as movie.
2-slightly more elaborate method. Use Mpeg streamclip. Save as Movie, or whatever
3- let me help you out here- there might have been something called "IMovie help"
but if not, I'll try to get you started.
    a- get iMovie working
b- go to File, then Import, then Movies, then pick your video clip, and wait until it has
finished importing (the lower box). after it has done so, and all of it has appeared
in the lower box, then press command-A there to select all, move the mouse
over to the front of the video clip, which should have a slight yellow border around all of it, until you see a hand. click and drag from the bottom box, to the top box, and the video clip should go up to the top box. make sure you have advanced controls turned on. move the mouse to the front of the video clip in the top box to the blue things you will see there, or double click, and you should get a popup menu for audio and video adjustment. After adjusting the video and audio
(don't get me started on how to snip out clips you don't want), and after clicking 'done" then go to the top of the screen, and you should see something called "SHARE" under that you can choose either Export via quicktime or Export as movie
and either way ought to work, depending on what your needs are, and let it export that movie and you should have a video clip ready to go
that concludes today's little lesson on basic iMovie use, please pay your instructor before leaving the classroom
    thanks and goodnight

  • How to move iMovie project from one computer to another

I have been working on an iMovie 09 project on my desktop at home.
Now I want to work on the same project on my computer at work.
How can I move the project from one computer to another?   What I've already tried was to make a duplicate copy of the project and then use a thumb drive to move that to another computer.   It didn't work.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello James Snedeker,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to move a file to another disk. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
iMovie: How to Save Projects to Another Hard Disk
To copy an iMovie project to another disk:
    1. Quit iMovie if it is open.
    2. Locate the project folder in the Finder.
    3. Drag the project folder to the other disk.
Note: You must move the complete project folder, intact, to the other disk in order to successfully copy the project. The project folder has the same name as the project listed in the iMovie window. This folder includes the iMovie project file, as well as a Media folder, which contains all of the clips associated with this project. If you don't copy all of these items, the project may no longer be readable in iMovie.
Once you have copied the project, try opening it in iMovie to ensure that it copied to the other disk successfully.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • Can anyone point me toward a tutorial/video/anything that will show me how to use iMovie '11?

The Apple video tutorial was just a commercial. Other info I found on Apple site was for the iPad. I have a MacBook Pro. I need to learn how to use iMovie '11 from the start. Very start. To borrow a line from a movie 'Talk to me like I'm a 5-year-old.' For example, what is the difference between a 'project' and an 'event'? Which one do I create first?  How do I adjust the exposure and color on my movies? Once I am done with my movie how do I tell computer/software to 'save' it because I am done. Then where is it? These are just examples.
I'd love to find any basic tutorial/video/help.
I got a book but it's way too advanced.
    Thank you.

    4. <left Click> on the other clip.
    5. Use <right click> and select 'clear'.

    6. iMove hangs for a second and then shuts down.
(It also usually works with clips that exist already.)
Plse send off the bug report to Apple.

I have had the same experiences as everyone else on this fourm. Maybe that's why I never see a Apple Rep answer a question. I was working on a project all day and the application would just quit in the middle of me making an edit. I never had a chance to save my work when this happened.
It seems to me that over the past four years, apple has just deployed software without fully testing. I can't understand why they would use their paying customers as beta testers. The quality control aspect of Apple has gone away. You can't use iMovie on an iPod, but that's all they seem worried about these days. I am glad to see Adobe put out some good applications. Take Lightroom for example. This application was created to allow users to run the application on a Power Mac G4. What about that Apple?
I just wish Apple would own up to the problems it's cutomers are reportng and correct them or at least acknowledge them as being investigated. Wit would also seem reasonable for Apple to at least publish known issues.

  • How to save an edited viceo clip in premier elements 11 to my organizer (windows 07)?

How to save an edited video clip in premier elements to my organizer so that I can add teh edited video clip to my slide show on windows 7 operating system?

This is not Adobe. We are Premiere Elements users trying to help other Premiere Elements users with their Premiere Elements workflows. Under those conditions, only Adobe may have the opportunity to access your computer in troubleshooting session between you and them. You can use the following link to contact Adobe via its Adobe Chat.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=premiere-elements&topic=using-my-product-or-se rvice
When the link opens, click on the statement "I still need help" to bring up Adobe Chat.
I have no idea if they will charge you a fee for the service ($40 US dollar/hour). It might not even help you (fee or no fee) because you do not have the latest version of Premiere Elements.
What you ask is easy enough. Let me try again with a step by step to see if we can get this working for you in principle and then fine tune the details.
    1. Export your Timeline to a file, using Publish+Share/Computer and then one of the choices
Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, AVCHD, AVI, Windows Media, QuickTime, Image, Audio. I do not know what your project settings are, but I am going to guess at NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD1080i30. That would represent 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second.
The following is going to be a mini test run in principle so we will cut to the core and overlook some things.
    Go to Publish + Share/Computer/AVCHD/ and set Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30.
Note that there is a field for Save In: near where you set Presets. Set the Save In for Libraries/Documents not C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe  Premiere Elements 11. Keep out of the Program Files for matters such as these.
Go to the Elements Organizer 12 File Menu/Get Photos and Videos/From Files and Folders and then browse to and select your MP4 file that you have saved in Libraries/Documents.
You now should have your video represented in the Elements Organizer 12 with a thumbnail.
Please let us know if that works for you. If not, then please let us know where you need supplemental help to get the task completed. I will re-write if necessary.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.
    ATR
Add On...A little side note for later...If you took your file saved to the computer hard drive and imported that back into Premiere Elements with Premiere Elements' Add Media/Files and Folders, you would get
    a. the file imported into a new project
    but also
    b. a copy of the file automatically placed in the Elements Organizer 12.
If the ideas seem overwhelming, please take the steps on one at a time and follow exactly what is written. You should do fine.

  • Can anyone tell me how to save a project in i-movie from one Mac to another? Thanks

Can anyone tell me how to save a project from one Mac to another I can save and copy 'events', but the 'projects' won't open, thanks

    Hi
iMovie'08 - NO - Projects can not be moved - As far as I know
You need iMovie'09 or 11 where both Events and Projects can be moved.
DO NOT move or alter any folder named
    • iMovie Projects - or -
    • iMovie Events
on DeskTop/Finder - Else they will not work and in some cases it is un-repairable !
Moving has to be done inside iMovie Application.
AND You need an in between storage eg an external hard disk and here are an IMPORTANT MUST
    • it MUST BE Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange will not work FOR VIDEO
    • Should be a FireWire one - As USB/USB2 performs badly especially when filling up and when editing HD-video.

  • How to save to *.m4v

I have a website that is able to show Flash video sermons which I shoot and produce with PPro CS5.  I have gotten some requests to make these online videos available to non-Flash browsers like the ones in an iPad and other similar devices that don't do Flash.  As I understand it, I will have to either add a player to my website that will play H.264 in addition to the Flash or change the site so it uses a player that will play both formats.  It sounds like I may want to use the one player that does both, and for that I need to use *.m4v video files.  If my video in is AVCHD, how can I best save in this m4v format?  Also, if there is a better way to get the results I need, I will be open to suggestions.  BTW, I designed the website a few years ago and self-taught myself the HTML programming, but have forgotten almost everything I learned at the time, so easier is better.
Edit:  Forgot to mention two issues:
    1) Flash will start to play before the video file is fully downloaded.  With the large video files, will the alternate player work like this also?  Don't want my users to have to wait long to start playing the video.
    2) I would like to maintain video quality.  Some of the formats are actually much worse than Flash (even with larger file size).

It was actually easier than I thought to set it all up on the website.  I used JW Player and made a simple page and edited a 90 minute sermon down to 3 minutes.  I also exported a full 90 minute one to MP4.  The file size of a regular 90 minute Flash file is 200,000kb and the MP4 is 1,200,000 kb.  The short test MP4 is 121,000 kb.
The problem I have is that when I play the video on my Windows IE8 machine, the video runs just fine.  When I play the video using my iPad, the video is really jerky and the audio runs faster than the video.  If I pause the movie, it allows the video to run while the audio is stopped.  That is, I hit pause and I don't hear any audio, and the video keeps moving and then stops.  If I leave it paused, hoping the video will download more, then start it up again, it's still very choppy or jerky and the audio and video get out of synch very fast.  All this to ask if there is a better way to save to a MP4 file?  I foresee a real problem, because I am only using a 3 minute video.  What will happen with a 90 minute video?

  • Re Iphoto stream - how to save space on icloud by deleting on iphone but not on mac iphoto?? thanks

Hi - be great if anyone can help....
It's unclear to me as to how to save photostream photos from iphone to macbook if I want to delete the same photos from my phone to save space on icloud.
Thanks in anticipation of any advice

    Hi
It's a very good idea to use an external hard disk to take load off the Main Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk.
BUT there are some VERY Important things to know.
    A. NEVER move via DeskTop/Finder or alter any folders named
    • iMovie Events - or -
    • iMovie Projects
As this will result in disaster (hard to impossibly to mend)
All moving's of Events and Projects must be done Within the iMovie Application to be done in a Safe Way
    B. The External/Second Hard Disk
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted for VIDEO - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most things BUT NOT FOR VIDEO - whatever program is used iMovie or FinalCut or iDVD doesn't matter - VERY IMPORTANT ! ! !
    • Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me especially when filling up. (Thunderbolt might be even better - have non to test)
    BUT when reg. iPhoto Library.
    • Yes it can be moved
    • Yes iPhoto can be directed to find it
    • BUT - iMovie can not find those out-localized iPhoto libraries (AS FAR AS I Learned up to now 12-April-03 - anyone with more insight may kindly set me into a possibly way to do this)
So I've outsource my iMovie Event's (most important as they take space) and Projects (not so important as they are very small - no movies in them only text document conducting how the Events are to be viewed) - BUT iPhoto stays - will not touch it.

  • How to point Imovie to second internal harddrive

I have installed an internal Maxtor harddrive to give me more room to edit movies. But I cannot figure out how to point Imovie to that harddrive.
    What am I missing? Thanks.

When we create a new project, iMovie lets us save it wherever we want. We can save it on our internal drive or any external drive.
    1. In iMovie, choose File > New Project.
    2. In the Save dialog window that opens, navigate to the drive where you want to save the project. (If the Up/Down arrow just to the right of your new project name is pointing down, click on it.) The Save dialog window lets you navigate to any of the disks connected to your Mac. Navigate to the disk, then navigate to a folder in that disk and save the project.
Existing projects can be moved to another disk by simply dragging the project to a folder on that disk.
