How to save layers of a PSD file?

I am a software developer and I have received a PSD file from a client. I need to be able to save the individual layers so I can apply them to the user interface. I've tried some suggestions from on-line sources but I'm still not able to export the images. The image below is what I am seeing for layers.
All suggestions appreciated.

The problem is that Photoshop Elements does not natively open layer sets. You'll either have to have your client send you the PSD file(s) with the layers not in layer sets or find a workaround.
(You try a trial of Photoshop if you haven't tried out CS5 yet and do it in Photoshop. While you have the trial, you could record an action to open layer sets that could be used in Elements if you decide not to purchase Photoshop. See the Elements thread I linked...Post 6 which gives details on how to write that action.)

Some have found that you can open them if you use an action.  There is a link to a freebie action written for E7 on the Elements Village forum. I don't have any personal experience with the action nor know if it still works in E8. You'll have to register to get access to the action file but the registration page says it's free (unless otherwise specified). I'm not a member of this particular site so can't say what the otherwise specified means.
See post #6 on this page which gives details on how the action is written and where to install along with an action that has a download link:

  • How to save layered PDD file as JPG?

    Hi, folks:
[running Photoshop CS3 under Windows XP Pro/SP3 ]
I have a PSD file with about 14 layers. A few are hidden. I want to save as a jpg, so I go to file -> save as and save as a jpg file (the yellow alert icon shows next to "layers" in the save dialog). Yet the resulting jpg looks just fine. I've been doing this for years.
Today, support told me in case #180459305 that doing that would corrupt the jpg. They said that I need to first merge layers in the PSD file, then save as a jpg.
They also suggested that I post this question here. So here it is. Do I have to go through the extra step in manually flattening the PSD file (and potential pitfall of mistakenly saving it as a PSD and losing my layers forever)?
    Thanks,
    Fred

    Hi, Ed, J:
    Thanks for your responses!
    His explanation was as follows:
Save the layered PSD as a jpg. When you do so, a yellow exclamation alert appears next to "layers" in the save dialogue box. He said this means that the file will be corrupted if it is saved.
Now I believe it means that layers will be merged during the process of saving as a jpg, and I said so. He said no, let me prove it to you:
Go to Image->mode-> and set 16 bits per channel. Then save as a jpg. You will notice that there is no way to save an image as a jpg. Now how the hell that proves his former point is beyond me.
Now for the biggest laugh of the day: he said (in case#180459305) that if you copy or rename files using the filesystem filemanager (e.g., the desktop or windows explorer), that it would open the file to copy or rename it and then rewrite it, thus cause lossy image degradation.
I told him (politely) that he was wrong - that renaming a file does not open it - it simply updates directory information about the file, and that copying a file (outside of photoshop) does a byte-for-byte clone of the file and does not degrade image quality.
Where do they get these purported "experts"????
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • JPEG/PSD issue--I open a jpeg and edit it (levels, crop) and then "save as" and the save as option shows there are now levels in the image and it wants to save it as a .psd file or a copy with layers.  What am I doing that has these settings appear?

16bit? Pixels extending beyond the canvas? (from a crop with delete unused pixels turn off).  Have you previously been saving PSD files?
IME you sometimes have to tell Photoshop that the first save of a session is JPG, and it remembers from there on.  The way to 'tell' Photoshop that JPG, or PDF, or PNG etc are now your preferred format is to Ctrl (Cmd) click on that format in the Save As drop down list.  So long as the file does not have parameters that your chosen format does not support, then this should work for you.
[EDIT]  Just noticed that you did include 'Crop' in the subject line.  Do you have 'Delete cropped pixels' checked?

  • How to save Android contacts as Excel file on Mac computer?

I want to manage and edit my contacts on my cell phone, my friend suggested me save them as Excel format! So now i am trying this way, but i can't find the right method to do this! Do you know how to save Android contacts as Excel file on Mac computer?

If you want to save Android Phone contacts to Excel format, you can have a try the following method:
Step 1. Connect Your Android Phone to Computer
After downloading and installing the Coolmuster Android Assistant software on your computer, launch it and you will get the program interface prompts you to connect your phone to the computer. Just use a USB cable to connect your phone to the computer and the program will detect the connected phone automatically. If it is the first time to run this software, you may encounter the following picture and be required to enable USB debugging on your phone at first. If your device can be detected by the program, you can directly skip to the next step.
Step 2: Go to the Contacts windows
All your phone data are categorized on the top menu. To transfer Android phone's contacts, you can go to click the "Contacts" icon to enter the Contacts window. Navigate to the left panel and click on the "All Contacts" option, then, all the contacts in your phone will show in list on the right window. Mark the contacts you want to backup on your computer and click the button of "Backup".
Step 3. Start to export contacts to computer at once
Once you click on the "Backup" button, there will be a "Path" dialog appears, asking you to choose an output location where you want to save the exported contacts. Specify an output folder and then click the "Ok" button. Then, all your phone contacts will be exported to the output location immediately, with all the email address, company's name, home address, and more contacts info perfectly kept in the output CSV or XLS file.

  • Why can't I see the layers of cs4 .psd files passed to me in photoshop elements 11?

why can't I see the layers from cs4 .psd files passed to me in photoshop elements 11?

You should be able to see normal layers, but PSE doesn't understand layer groups/sets or comp layers. The inexpensive add-on elements+ from simplephotoshop.com will let you expand layer groups. (If you also have Premiere Elements installed you should be able to see layer groups in PSE without adding anything.)

  • How to save my emails and adressbook files from an old ibook?

How to save my emails and adressbook files from an old ibook (bought around 2002) ?
The screen from the old ibook doesn´t work anymore (logicboard problem I guess).
I saved everything else with starting it in target modus. That worked fine.
I want to delete the files after that as well, because I wanna give away the old ibook and don´t want anyone to read my emails!
    Little helpers I have:
    A running MacBook
External Screen (and cables to connect)
    Fire Wire Cable

Don't know how helpful this will be but I often copy mail from one computer to another, I drag the mail from the mail window to the other computers drop box, then from the other computer double click it and mail asks me what I want to do with it, of course without a screen you'd need to use back to my mac.
If you don't have back to my mac running, you could set up a second user account on the newer mac, import everything via target mode as suggested by c above, and then drag the mail to the first user account drop box.

I am trying to save a photoshop CS6 psd file to jpg and get an option jpg, jpg2000 or jpg stereo, I choose jpg and then Mac 256 colours, normal or interlaced.  I just want regular jpg with a high resolution.  What am I doing wrong?  , never had this problem before.  Help!!!

Your description of the issue is not clear:
What format, bit depth and color was your original file "from the net"?  It sounds like it was a Color Indexed GIF, which would cause what you are describing.
In the Macintosh Finder, select said "net image" and do a Get Info on it (Command+i). When the Info box appears in the Finder, take a screen shot and upload it here by using the little camera icon in the Reply Editor in the forum's web interface.
If the image is a 256-color GIF, remember the rule:  GIGO = garbage in, garbage out.

How to save video messages to a file on Mac? Please, help. Thank you.Claire

Claire, I use a Mac w/ the latest copy of Skype and it IS possible to first play the file and then download it.  Steps are available for it but it involves some technical wizardry that can be above some muggles.   Then I found a post where some some VERY bright person made a small downloaded program for the Mac which once the video message has been played recently, you can run this program and download the file for safe keeping ( ALWAYS BACKUP or store it in the cloud for safety )  Kudos are deserved to user alvarop for this! http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/Video-Message-Exporter-App/m-p/2351609 It worked for me to download a video message that I recently played back.  Let me know if you need any assistance getting it downloaded you can PM me on here and I'll be happy to help with a screenshare. Best Regards,-Shawn G

  • How to save query result in excel file

    Hi all,
How to save query result in excel file from sql*plus tool.
    thank you

Do you really need an Excel file (binary) or a simple CSV?
If you just need a CSV then search for DUMP_CSV at http://asktom.oracle.com or at this forum
If you need formatting and/or multiple worksheets then you can use free tools like
    https://xml-spreadsheet.samplecode.oracle.com/ or https://exceldocumenttype.samplecode.oracle.com/

  • How to save infopath form in XML file

How to save InfoPath form in XML file.
I want every new record in InfoPath form save in XML file and also retrieve these records from XML like databases

    Hi,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to save InfoPath form in XML file.
I have done a test in my SharePoint, Do the following steps:
Create an form library and publish an InfoPath form into it, Then when we create new document into the form library, it is by default that InfoPath form is saved in XML file.

  • How to save/load JTextPane to/from file?

One of the simplest questions re Swing.
How to save a JTextField onto a file?
And, how to read back it onto a newed JTextPane?
Yes, I have searched, searched and searched on the net, in vain.

Assuming he's wanting to do the reasonable thing, I'm trying to do it too.
linuxoid, I suspect he (and I) are looking for a way to save the contents. After all, a control that you can't get the information out of is pretty useless.
Styled text is often just a BLOB to the rest of the app. It is in my case, and it probably is in his.
I'm having the same trouble he is.
I want to make a JTextPane, let the user edit it, then get some reasonably portable representation of it's current contents that I can serialize. A string representation of XML sounds dandy. Incomprehensible binary is acceptable. A representation in some markup language that I can insert in some other document and have it act like I'm inserting text in the editor would make me more than happy.
Ideally, what I, and probably he, are looking for is something like
    JTextPane myPainIsGreat = new JTextPane();
... life goes on...the user writes poetry and turns the words tacky colors...
    String thisICanDealWith = myPainIsGreat.getStyledTextRepresentation();
    knowing better I'd settle for
    myPainIsGreat.writeStyled(someWriter)
sadly, JTextPane's write just returns unstyled text

  • How do you save a Photoshop CS6 psd file as a template?

Trying to save a psd file as a template so the original cannot be altered or saved over. How do you do this?

Thanks - that is perfect. Also found a "read only" option for all. So you have to do a "SAVE AS" and can't write over the original.
    Thanks again.

  • How can I edit separate layers in a psd file that was saved as only one layer?

A designer provided me with a finished design and provided the psd, eps and ai files.  I'd like to make some minor changes in PS and would like to access individual layers - e.g. the text, background, etc.  When I open the psd file, however, it only has one layer.  how do I break out the original layers so that I can edit them?

You can't. Once it's been flattened, you can't unflatten it. Talk to your designer: he/she will most likely have the unflattened version available.

  • How can I recover an overwritten PSD file?

I was working on an image which is supposed to have many layers in it, I merged the layers and I supposed to save it as a JPG file, but I didn't. I accidentally save it as PSD with the same file name, and I turned off the application. Now, I couldn't edit the file, coz all the layers are been merged. Could someone teach me where can I find its backup, or teach me how to recover the old PSD file? Thanks...

how to recover the old PSD file?
No way. You have overwritten it, which is something different than  doing an "undelete" on an accidentalyl deleted file - your data is  occupying the same space on the harddrive now and anything that was  there before is now gone.
Could someone teach me where can I find its backup
There  is none, as obviously you did not do any incremental saves and file  versions. Well, you now have learned this the hard way...
