How to save music onto computer

I am soon going to send in my iTouch to Apple, and most of my music is from a different computer/iTunes library. I dont want to have to reload all of my music, so how can I save my music to my computer???

Back up the files in your iTunes Library. They are located in user/music/itunes/ and are called:
iTunes Library
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
iTunes Library Genius.itdb
iTunes Music Library.xml
as well as backing up 5 files from your Preferences, which you can find in your User/Library/Preferences/ and which are called:
com.apple.iPod.plist
com.apple.isync.plist
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
Pay full attention when you restore these files.
*You must be careful that you do not make a mistake and overwrite the whole of the Preferences folder when you do this*
It is so easy to replace one folder with another, especially if we are a bit tired.
*Make sure that you put your music files on the new computer in the same location as they were on the old computer* If you do not, iTunes Preferences will not find your music.
Remember to replace the files and the music on your new hard drive BEFORE you launch iTunes. If iTunes does not see these files when it launches, then it will create new files.
Hope this helps.

My computer never told me how to move music onto my ipod, I have no idea what Im doing.... Help...?

For useful information on using your iPod see this page: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
Your profile says you are using Windows ME, is that correct? There is no version of iTunes for ME so you would need third party software to manage an iPod. See these links for iTunes alternatives:

  • How to save music tracks onto an external drive

Thank you for helping me with this question...
How do I save my music files onto an external hard disk drive? It seems that there is no way to avoid having to save my tracks onto the C: drive, yet I am quickly running out of room. I would like to transfer all of my music to the D: drive and set up iTunes to automatically save all future music onto the D: drive, but I lack the technical knowledge to do this myself.
    Thank you,
    -Will

If you want to make another drive (direct or portable) on your PC the main music location for iTunes, move all song files there, as well as any future imported music from CDs, here is one method (see the links below):
You will maintain your playlists, ratings, comments, etc. This will only move your music folders location, NOT your iTunes program files. It is my opinion that programs (i.e. – iTunes) work better when installed on your main hard drive. At the very least, it makes it easier to manage all your programs if they are centrally located on one hard drive (the Windows default standard).
See these links for some step-by-step info:
iLounge: Moving your iTunes Library to a New Hard Drive
MacMuse: iTfW: Move iTunes music/Library to new drive
iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder
If you are moving the music to an external hard drive or network drive, after the transfer (and to work correctly), the drive must be running prior to your opening iTunes. If not, iTunes will reset the location of your music folder location to the default location (usually: ‘C:\...My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music’). If this happens, you need to manually change the path back to your external location, or future CD ‘Imports’ will be deposited on your internal HD.
Also make sure that the new drive always loads as the same Drive Letter, otherwise you will lose the references within iTunes.

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
Type "move itunes library" or similar into the google search bar to learn how to copy the itunes library.
Your computer should have a method for moving everything else (pics/docs/files/contacts/calendars/etc).

  • How to sync music onto the iphone 4???

I only want some songs to sync to my iphone 4
But I do not know if all my songs from my mac is going to sync into my iphone?
How to only get the songs i want to sync to my iphone 4??
    And Another Question:
If i have the same itunes account for my mac and my iphone,
It does not transfer my songs from my mac to my iphone 4
even though i am using the same itunes account?
Or i should make a different account for my iphone 4??
THANK YOU, I really need your help...

If you want iTunes to update your music, videos, or podcasts when you connect your device, you should sync automatically. If iTunes is open and you connect your device using the USB Dock Connector cable, iTunes will sync with your device.
    1. Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
    2. Click the button with your device's name, below the Spotlight window.
    3. In the main iTunes browser window, select Music.
    4. Select Sync Music. You can select "Include music videos" if you want to sync Music videos to your device.
    5. Your device needs to have enough free space to sync the content that you selected from your library.
    6. Click Apply. iTunes will sync the content you selected to your device. The iTunes LCD will show the sync progress and notify you when the sync is complete.
    7. To disconnect your device, find your device in iTunes and click the eject icon.

    Elissa,
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring playlists, ratings, playcounts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…

  • How to transfer music from computer to iphone without deleting existing iphone purchases

I am putting CDs into iTunes on a home computer (PC) and I want to put that music onto my iPhone.
But the only option seems to involve deleting all my iPhone music, which includes purchases that I have recently made which I cannot synch to my computer.

Syncing music does at least two things.
    1.  It can add to the device any music that is resident on the computer that is used for the sync
    2.  it can add any music from the mobile device to the computer if both are logged in (and authorized) to the same account that purchased the music.
By the description in your post, I suspect that some music is on the device that was purchased with different Apple ID than the computer is authorized to.

If the music is in your music file or on an external hard drive (windows) then, on iTunes, go to file>add to library and then choose what you want to add. Then sync music to your iPhone and your done.

After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least three sets of your music:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and the computer is not considered having any backup. If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer, then create and maintain two external sets.
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a backup strategy: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=394618&messageID=1263275
