  • How do u get your songs onto a new itunes library???????????????

MY WHOLE COMPUTER SYSSTEM HAD 2 GET WIPPED, I STILL HAVE MY SONGS ONMY IPOD BUT I CANT GET MY SONGS ONTO THE NEW ITUNES I JUST DOWNLOADED. HOW DO I GET THE SONGS FROM MY IPOD ONTO MY COMPUTER????????????????? PLEASE HELP ME

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • HT1329 How can I get the songs on my iPod onto my new iTunes library?

I have an iPod that was synced to another iTunes library on another PC.  The PC died and I replaced it with a MacBook Pro but it keeps saying the iPod is synced w/ another iTunes library.  How can I get the songs on my iPod on the new iTunes library?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • How best to add music to new iTunes library on external hard drive?

I just created a new iTunes library on my external hard drive and would like to add songs that I already have stored in a folder on the external hard drive. Should I simply select all of the songs and drag them over the iTunes library folder or drag them into a specific part of the library folder? Or, should I open the new iTunes library and use the import function? I do not want to get the two libraries (powerbook and external hard drive) intermingled.
Also, should I "keep iTunes library organized" turned on?
    Many thanks!
    RB

You could leave keep library orginised selected - all it does is rename and reorganize files in your music directory to artist-album-track#-songname format.
Since you want to do this, and still keep your libraries separate, here is one option.
Change the itunes music library to a directory on your external disk.
Then anything new you add will go into the library on the external disk.
When you want to add something to your laptop disk, just change the
music library location back to where it was.
iTunes can be a little confusing. There is the itunes "library" file, which is actually more like a catalog file. Then there is the itunes "music library"
which is where itunes puts music if you have "copy to library" selected.

  • How do i get my music from my iPod onto a new itunes library?

My dad accidentally restored our computer and i can't sync my iPod because itunes says that it is "synced" with a now non existent itunes library. i can transfer purchases, but some of the music is from CD's i have purchased or some of it has just dissapeared from purchased due to new computers and such. please help. i just want all my music safely on my computer so i can sync it again....

    - You need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Then after all the stuff is on the cmputr, connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking one the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up

  • How do i tranfer my old music onto a new itunes library without it erasing?

I have an Ipod Nano second generation full-up with music - these MP3s are NOT Itunes but downloaded from various sites as well as uploads from CDs.  I lost my original Itunes library when my computer crashed about a year ago so I've had nothing to connect my Ipod to to sync up or anything.  I recently purchased an Iphone 4S and I want to transfer the music from my old Nano to my new Iphone but every time I try to sync up it tells me that my computer isn't authorized and won't upload all my music.  I have "given" authorization by going to "Store, Authorize" but it still doesn't work.  I'm terrified of erasing 5 years of gathered music!!!  Can anyone help me?

  • How do I set up a new iTunes Library when others on computer already do

I'm trying to set up my own iTunes account/library, but when I sign on, the computer automatically downloads all my daughter's music, etc. How can I set up an individual account that is separate from everyone else's account who shares this computer?

Go to control panel_user accounts_ and set up yourself as a new user (Make sure you have administrative privileges - you may not want your daughter to be an administrator). Once you log on as a new user, you can have your own itunes library as well as other nifty stuff like your own Outlook account.

  • How can I get the songs from my iPod on to my new iTunes library?!! Help!!

So I've looked on all the support pages but I've got a feeling there is nothing that can be done with this, hopefully someone can help!
We moved to the US and while our computer was being sent over it got water damaged so I lost all of my itunes library. And I didnt back it up properly. So I want to know if there is anyway to transfer all the songs from my ipod onto our new itunes library, or if i can somehow get my ipod songs on to disc and then import them?? • How do I transfer ipad files to a new itunes library?

Hello, my itunes library was destroyed when my harddrive failed.  I still have data on my ipad, but do not know how to transfer it to a new itunes library on my mac (snow leopard).  I found several applications that claim to do just this and more for a fee, but I don't think that it is reasonable to pay for this simple function.  Apparently it is a relatively simple proceedure on a PC.
    Cheers,
    Cormac

It is just as easy on a Mac if you know what to do. Authorize the computer first - launch iTunes and go to Store>Authorize this Computer from the iTunes menu.
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your computer, start iTunes. Click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your Mac and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your Mac, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
You may need a third party app to transfer the music and pohtos back to the iTunes library. Remember that all purchased music, apps and TV shows can be downloaded again for free (in the U.S.)

  • How do I transfer my ipod data onto my new itunes libary?

My PC recently got wiped clean of all memory due to a system failure and I lost all my songs from my itunes libary but they remained on my ipod. When I plug my ipod into my PC it comes up with the message that gives me the option to either: erase and sync my ipod, transfer purchases or cancel. I tried to transfer my purchases but only half of them transfered. To save time and money I would be grateful if someone could tell me how to transfer my songs from my ipod onto my new itunes libary.

    Hey there,
Ignore the message that comes up in iTunes. Hit "Cancel"
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
There is a very direct method, which I personally prefer, but there are also numerous third party applications, which will help you accomplish the task as well. The link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method as well as a few third party applications if you choose to go that route instead.
Hope this helps. Make sure if you have iTunes purchases, to authorize your new library at some point.
