How to schedule Snapshots on ESXi host with vSphere

Hi all,
I would like to know if someone has already configured a schedule to backup the VM in a periodical manner. (For example, scheduling periodical snapshots)
Thanks in advance for your contribution.
Regards,
Benoit

Didnt get ur question fully.
U can schedule reports to a server using "schedule" cmd line parameter.
see docs [     Publishing reports to web  - 10G  ] to know fully syntax of this param

  • Rebooted esxi host with 1000v will not power on

I rebooted my esxi host with the 1000v on it. after the host came back up, the vm did not power on and now I cannot access the host. when i try to power on the vm on the host via kvm. It fails to power on.
    any idea on this?

    Tony,
What error message do you get when trying to power on the VSM?
Have you tried connecting to the host directly with the VI Client?
You may need to do a vSwitch Networking recovery from the console of the ESX host.  Sounds like it wasn't setup correctly initially.  Once restored to the standard vSwitch, you can re-migrate it back to the DVS.

  • How to schedule a package to run with package scheduler in BPC 5.1 MS

We are on BPC 5.1 Service Pack 2.
I have a few schedules that run import packages that were set up by a consultant who is no longer with the company. I need to know how to change the userid associated with the package schedules so that they can reflect my name and not the consultant's. I attempted to select the edit parameters but it didn't have the userid on it as an area to update or change.
Also, how do I create new package schedules to run as I have other packages that I would like to set to run automatically on the system? I did not see an option to create the package schedule in the selections.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eleasha

I find it easier & more reliable to create a new package schedule, rather than edit an existing one, when trying to change the user. Likewise, I've never been able to transport a schedule from one environment to another. Easier to just set up a new one.
Go to eData -> Packages Schedule Status to delete the existing job. (Before deleting, make sure you note the scheduling options, and any other package-specific options that have been scheduled.)
Then eData -> Run package, and choose "schedule" instead of "run now". The schedule here will be set up under the user ID you've used to log into BPC. After you've created the schedule in this way, you can go back later and edit it further (with greater scheduling options) in the "packages schedule status" interface, or via Windows scheduled tasks.

  • Host with dvSwitch migration

Hi, I have 25 ESX hosts running 5.1 U3 and I need to migrate them to the new 5.5 vcenter server but experiencing "proxy" related errors and I believe they are relating to me not being able to migrate esxi hosts configured with dvswitches.
Has anyone been able to migrate hosts configured with dvswitches between vcenter?

To migrate your hosts that uses VDS to a new vCenter, you should follow the steps docummented here: VMware KB: Moving an ESX/ESXi host with vDS from one vCenter Server to another

  • How to configure one TREX host with multiple index servers ?

    Hi All,
Does anyone know how to configure TREX on the one host,
    with multiple index servers ?
Reason for this is to make better use of resources available on the host server(4 Gig, 4 Processor, Windows2003), to improve the search performance of
our KM content for portal users.
I am using TREX 7 and have not been able to do this,
despite reading the Single and Distributed install
    documentation.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Andres

    Hi Andres,
    To make use of the RAM a Server provides you have to run two indexserver processes (each can then consume 2 GB);
    Proceed like this:
    1. Go to TREXdeamon.ini; check if section [indexserver2] is there (it is already provided, but not active in standard installation)
    2. In TREXdeamon.ini go to
    [daemon]
    references sections below
    programs=nameserver,preprocessor1,indexserver1,queueserver,alertserver
and add indexserver2 here. Restart TREX; second porcess is then started; can be checked in TREX monitor in Portal as well
    3. To distribute existing indexes to the new process, start TREXadmintool and go to Index: Landscape
Go to the last two columns and move the indexes (move master here/secondary mouse click)
If you don't distribute the indexes the new index server process will be regarded when an new index is created.
    Hope this helps!
    cheers

  • How to confiture virtual hosts with multiple domain names

    hello,
I've read through some of the postings here on virtual hosts, but I thought I'd better solicit advice before I actually try some of the things I've read about.
In a nutshell, I've purchased multiple domain names that I'd like to alias to a new site (currently it is just a subfolder in the main site directory) on my OS 10.3.x server. There is only the one main site configured right now on the box, so I know I need to set up a second "virtual site" pointing to the files in this subfolder to make it function as its own site.
I've dabbled around with the sites settings in the GUI, but I'd probably be most comfortable setting all this up in the httpd.conf by hand if I could. But I'm weary of this because I know it might be better to use the GUI because of OS X Server's flavor of WebObjects and Apache (sigh).
So, I have two main questions:
    1) How would I set up this second site using the GUI in server settings? Do I need to first move the subfolder out of the main folder before it can be designated its own site? Or can I just point to it in the GUI? Can I use one of my purchased domain names in the domain field?
    2) Currently, I have URL Forwarding set with my multiple domain names, but I'm thinking there might be a better way to do this? For SEO I'd rather use some type of redirect rather than being penalized by search engines for having what looks to be multiple domains pointing to the same site.I'm thinking I should create virtual sites for each domain name I've purchased with a hard redirect back to the main site?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    thank you for your reply.
    > You can create each site as a new Site in Server
Admin. When you do this you can choose any
directory on disk as the document root for each
site. This means you can move the sites' folders out of
/Library/WebServer/Documents if you like - you could
    create /Library/WebServer/site1,
/Library/WebServer/site2, etc. (or even be outside of
    /Library/WebServer if you want).
so, are you are saying that I could designate one site to be
    /Library/WebServer/Documents/site1
    and another to be
    /Library/WebServer/Documents/site1/directory1
even though directory1 is contained within site1's structure? I'm not advancing this as a good idea, necessarily. I'm just wondering if Apache would complain.
    > Each site should have the domain name set as per your
registered domains. Apache will need this to
determine the correct site to serve for each
    request.
Well, after some additional research I'm thinking I'm missing a critical piece of the puzzle. That being access to the DNS host server that manages the context of my server. I have purchased domain names through an outside registrar that point to my site and I can create virtual hosts on my server, but I don't have the ability to add the new virtual host names into the DNS server that manages my box. If that makes sense. Or maybe I'm missing something?
    >
I'm not sure why you're using URL forwarding at all.
Without that piece of information it's impossible to
tell you whether you should continue using them or
not - in general there's no need to use URL
forwarding if you have multiple Virtual Hosts setup,
but it sounds like you have multiple hostnames
pointing to the same content, so your needs may be
    different.
I'm using forwarding for the reason I list above. I didn't purchase hosting with the registrar where I purchased my domain names, so they are parked on the registrar's name server with URL forwarding to my server. The DNS server that manages my box resides in a different location and I don't have the ability to add DNS entries pointing to virtual hosts that I want to set up. Am I stuck?

  • Using OSX 10.5 with DynDNS...how do I get the silly host info from ISP out

    Hi There,
As I said, running an OSX server from home. Connects using DHCP so it pulls all the host info from the ISP. I'm using DynDNS for a domain I have registered. I can access the server from internet using my domain but how do I get all the host info from the ISP out of the system and just use the domain I have setup.

The following is from this Apple document, iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ, and will help you understand how Photo Stream works:
    My Photo Stream
When you take photos on an iOS device, or import photos from your digital camera to your computer, My Photo Stream can automatically upload your new photos to iCloud and push them to all of your other devices.
When do photos upload to My Photo Stream?
How long are My Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud?
The photos you upload to My Photo Stream are stored in iCloud for 30 days to give your devices plenty of time to connect and download them.
How many photos are stored in My Photo Stream on my devices and computers?
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
Since your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, be sure to select Photo Stream > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture. On your PC with Photo Stream enabled in the Control Panel, all of your photos will be imported into C:\Users\<user name>\Pictures\Photo Stream\My Photo Stream.

  • How much does it cost to host a muse site with adobe?

    ditto

You get 5 free sites with creative cloud subscription to host with Adobe.
So if you have a cloud subscription then you can use the free site counts and publish the sites to Business Catalyst. The sites published will be web hosting sites , but if you want to go for any higher plan you can surely upgrade the site plan.

  • Schedule Snapshots Rotation

    Hello,
I have two Hyper-V servers running Replica feature, it is working great, but it only protects me from hardware failure.
Now I want to have snapshots enabled for quick rollbacks (and full backups for more restoring options, but that's for later).
I found this script which describes how to schedule a snapshot each 7 days: https://support.managed.com/kb/a1872/how-to-automatically-rotate-hyperv-snapshots.aspx
From what I understand, it will rotate the Snapshot each 7 days, creating a new one and deleting the previous... but I am looking for something more complicated.
What I really wanted was having a snapshot each 7 days, just like that example, but keeping the last two weeks, and also have a new snapshot daily. So I would always have three separate snapshots instances (2 weeks old, 1 week old and "yesterday").
If I notice performance degradation, I will only keep 2 snapshots (1 week and 1 day old).
Does anyone know how to do it?
    Thanks,
    Rafael

    Hi Brian,
Thank you very much for your answer.
Well, I am not thinking of snapshots as a backup. I am thinking about a fast way to do a rollback in case of need.
Recently I had a problem with a server where the last backup I had was 5 days before, and recover was not very fast (very fast I mean a few minutes, if that much). Snapshots are a way to cover me from that kind of problem.
Because of the quantity of servers I run, most of them have automatic updates. I had a case not long ago that one update messed up the "fonts" on a windows server 2003. I also have some servers where more then one people have access... once a employee
deleted by accident something he was not supposed to.
Beyond having snapshots, I will also have proper backup. Maybe having 2 weeks of snapshots is a little too much. But I think having at least one day and a week always recoverable can save me some headaches.
So... my question is how to make a script to always have a one week old and a one day old snapshot. The script I have for a week is:
$Days = 7 #change this value to determine the number of days to rotate.
    $VMs = Get-VM
    foreach($VM in $VMs){
        $Snapshots = Get-VMSnapshot $VM
        foreach($Snapshot in $Snapshots){
            if ($snapshot.CreationTime.AddDays($Days) -lt (get-date)){
                Remove-VMSnapshot $Snapshot
        Checkpoint-VM $VM
How to add a daily snapshot without overwriting the weekly snapshots?

  • Simple shell script to create linkedClones on stand alone ESXi host.

    Hey Guys,
Last few days I have been working on creating linkedClones in bulk for some of the testing purpose. Since I did not had my vCenter up and running so I spend few minutes to write a simple script to create a linkClones on standalone ESX host.
My script create full clone of given VM, then creates snapshot on it and starts creating linkedClones from the delta vmdk files (it just create new directory for linkedClone VM's and copies those delta files to new location and then point it to base disk, nothing magic here ).
Now this script is working perfectly fine for me, and I can power on all the VM's which is pointing to base disk. Later I tried creating linkedClones using vCenter API's as well which seems to be doing the similar thing.
So I just want to check with you guys if my script is Ok or thats not the way to do it (this may be unsupported way of creating linkedClones but I just want a way to create linkedClones on standalone esxi host as I may not have vCenter server available everytime) ?

    Hi!
As long as your softsynths comes in the VSTi format (most of them do now), you can insert it on a track in Audition, which has 'host' capabilities from V3.
In the Multitrack, insert a new MIDI track from the 'Insert' menu (note: MIDI Track, not just 'MIDI').
On that track pane hit the 'Sequencer' button, and it will open in a separate window. In the pane left of the keyboard you can insert your VSTi of choice, and make your MIDI connections.
Back on the Main track pane, engage the 'L' button for Live monitoring. Actual recording (of MIDI) is done in the Sequencer window.
The usual, and recommended workflow is to keep the MIDI tracks 'open', i.e. you can edit the sound in your instrument and even the notes played at any time in the process, compiling the actual audio as the last step in the mixing.
If you kind of 'insist' on doing it the old way, you can export the audio from your recorded MIDI+VSTi creations track by track like this: Leave the Sequencer window open, make a selection in the multitrack that covers the time span you have played. Solo the track (will mute all others), and use File / Export Audio Mixdown. Use 'Master' as the source. This will give you a wave rendering of what's currently in the MIDI sequencer. Qualitywise this is better since it's all internal and digital instead of in/out of soundcards with DA/AD conversion etc.
I haven't found a method for a 'live' wave recording while you play, but there may be one...
If you purchase Audition it comes with Help files explaining this in more/better detail. ;)

Yes, you can use Schedule Snapshot Wizard to have automatic snapshots. See:
