How to search for 'period single space any letter' in find/change

Hi, i'd like to check my document to make sure that between all periods and first words of a sentence there are not single spaces but double spaces.  Is there a way to search for any instances of single spaces that appear after a period?

Firstly, when I said InDesign inflates the space I didn't mean it whacked in a great chunk of space. It just gives a little bit more air relative to the fit of the text around it. You may not always see any noticeable difference. But when I read a book I don't want to see obvious white spaces at the start of every sentence. As long as the full point and following capital letter register on my brain fast enough that I am reading a new sentence, that's good enough for me. I think it makes reading more fluid. If you want to see extra space at the start of a sentence, then it's probably best to carry on with your double spacebar - unless you want to try something more exotic like a fixed width space.
I didn't mean you to literally type <full point><space><any character> into the find. I was just trying to tell you what to input. Type the full point, hit the spacebar, and then use the options list to the right of the find field (shown as a @), select "Wildcards", then select "any character". What you should see in your find field is . ^?
You could then enter .  ^?      - that's two spaces. See why I spelled it out as <space>? -  into the change to field.

  • InCopy GREP: how can I search for a single space after a sentence?

    In the Find/Change box in InCopy, there's a preset GREP command: "Multiple Space to Single Space." In the books I'm working on, we need to do the opposite. I know I should learn regular expressions, and I'd like to, but frankly I'm pressed for time, so here's my question:
    What is the exact regular expression I should paste into the Find/Change box to find single spaces before sentences?
    Thanks!

    In Find, in the GREP area, you need to enter
    Find What: \. \S
    backslash-period = find a period
    tap the spacebar for a space ...there's a space after the period above
    backslash-cap S = not whitespace
    If you want to change it to two spaces after a period, group the Find expression so you can replace the Found text in the Change to field.
    Find What: (\. )(\S)
    Change To: $1 $2
    (I added a space after $1 so IC adds a second space after the period)

  • AMs and PMs - how to search for small-caps?

    In my book I'm proofreading I have a mixture of (because I was undecided when I was putting it together):
    i 7.00 a.m.
    i 7.00 am
    i 7.00am
    I ran these three options past about twenty people this morning, 6 voted for the first, 8 voted for the second, 3 voted for the third, and 1 person and myself voted for the option I can't show properly here: small-caps: 7.00 AM. Then of course there was the wag who told me: "Why don't you just say '7 o'clock in the morning' "? And the complete ratbag who suggested, in the interests of avoiding confusion: "7.00 am o'clock in the morning before lunch at 0700 hours."
    Before I make them all the same format, which will very likely be small-caps, I want to make sure I can easily search for them so I can replace with an alternative style if I change my mind again later on.
    QUES: How do I search for "AM" and "PM" (spaces before and after) if they are formatted in small-caps? I can't use paragraph styles because the AMs and PMs appear in a variety of styles already.

    Thanks for all the hints. I'm going to try some of them to see how they work. I should make it clear though (my original post may have been unclear about this) that I was asking how to search for AM in small caps AFTER I had changed all time-formats to that form.
    As for why I asked for input: I treat my book a bit like a democracy and give people a chance to vote on certain aspects and make comments just in case they have a good idea that I hadn't thought of; but yes, I'm the boss, and in terms of votes mine counts for 95%. In this case, someone suggested using a colon -- which I have taken on board. So I will be using the time format 7:30 AM to see how it looks. But if I don't like it, I want to be able to find all the small-cap AMs and change them to something else in one go.
    My interest in time-formats has stirred some interest locally. My partner proof reads a walking club magazine and she received the latest edition lat night. She has never concerned about time formats before, but after my foray into different options, she came up with the following variety (the club has lots of reports that include times when walking trips start and end), even though she thought she had done a thorough job of proof reading:
    9 am
    9.00am
    9:00 am
    9:00am
    9.am
    9 AM
    9.00a.m.
    9.00 a.m.

    I am thinking a problem, How to extend breadth first Search for Binary Tree to any kind of Tree?? ie each node has more than 2 leaves such as 1, 2,3,4 or any,
    I have following code to successfully apply for breadth first Search in Binary Tree as follows,
    package a.border;
    import java.util.ArrayList;

    public class Tree

    Dear Friends,
    I am thinking a problem, How to extend breadth first Search for Binary Tree to any kind of Tree?? ...The answer is interfaces.
    What do all trees have in common? And what do all nodes in trees have in common?
    At least these things:
    interface Tree<T> {
        Node<T> getRoot();
    interface Node<T> {
        T getData();
        List<Node<T>> getChildren();
    }Now write concrete classes implementing these interfaces. Let's start with a binary tree (nodes should have comparable items) and an n-tree:
    class BinaryTree<T extends Comparable<T>> implements Tree<T> {
        protected BTNode<T> root;
        public Node<T> getRoot() {
            return root;
    class BTNode<T> implements Node<T> {
        private T data;
        private Node<T> left, right;
        public List<Node<T>> getChildren() {
            List<Node<T>> children = new ArrayList<Node<T>>();
            children.add(left);
            children.add(right);
            return children;
        public T getData() {
            return data;
    class NTree<T> implements Tree<T> {
        private NTNode<T> root;
        public Node<T> getRoot() {
            return root;
    class NTNode<T> implements Node<T> {
        private T data;
        private List<Node<T>> children;
        public List<Node<T>> getChildren() {
            return children;
        public T getData() {
            return data;
    }Now with these classes, you can wite a more generic traversal class. Of course, every traversal class (breath first, depth first) will also have something in common: they return a "path" of nodes (if the 'goal' node/data is found). So, you can write an interface like this:
    interface Traverser<T> {
        List<Node<T>> traverse(T goal, Tree<T> tree);
    }And finally write an implementation for it:
    class BreathFirst<T> implements Traverser<T> {
        public List<Node<T>> traverse(T goal, Tree<T> tree) {
            Node<T> start = tree.getRoot();
            List<Node<T>> children = start.getChildren();
            // your algorithm here
            return null; // return your traversal
    }... which can be used to traverse any tree! Here's a small demo of how to use it:
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Tree<Integer> binTree = new BinaryTree<Integer>();
            // populate your binTree
            Tree<Integer> nTree = new NTree<Integer>();
            // populate your nTree
            Traverser<Integer> bfTraverser = new BreathFirst<Integer>();
            // Look for integer 6 in binTree
            System.out.println("bTree bfTraversal -> "+bfTraverser.traverse(6, binTree));
            // Look for integer 6 in nTree
            System.out.println("bTree bfTraversal -> "+bfTraverser.traverse(6, nTree));
    }Good luck!

  • How to search for a BADI in a transaction

    Hi All,
    Please let me know the steps to find a BADI for a transaction.
    Thanks,
    Jaffer Ali.S

    check this.
    u can find BADI's in different ways...
    1>First go to any transaction->iN THE menu bar SYSTEM->STATUS->Get the program name ->double click->u will go to the program attached to the tcode.Now search term will be CALL CL_EXITHANDLER.Now u will get list of BADI'S available..
    2>Goto SE24->Give class name as CL_EXITHANDLER->Display->double click on get_instance mathod->Now u will go inside the method->Now put break point on the cl_exithandler.Now go to any transaction code and pass dat..U will see that it will be stopped on the break point which u set on the cl_exithandler...In the exit name u can find list of badi's attached to the tcode..
    There are multiple ways of searching for BADI.
    • Finding BADI Using CL_EXITHANDLER=>GET_INSTANCE
    • Finding BADI Using SQL Trace (TCODE-ST05).
    • Finding BADI Using Repository Information System (TCODE- SE84).
    1. Go to the Transaction, for which we want to find the BADI, take the example of Transaction VD02. Click on System->Status. Double click on the program name. Once inside the program search for ‘CL_EXITHANDLER=>GET_INSTANCE’.
    Make sure the radio button “In main program” is checked. A list of all the programs with call to the BADI’s will be listed.
    The export parameter ‘EXIT_NAME’ for the method GET_INSTANCE of class CL_EXITHANDLER will have the user exit assigned to it. The changing parameter ‘INSTANCE’ will have the interface assigned to it. Double click on the method to enter the source code.Definition of Instance would give you the Interface name.
    2. Start transaction ST05 (Performance Analysis).
    /people/alwin.vandeput2/blog/2006/04/13/how-to-search-for-badis-trace-it
    3. Go to “Maintain Transaction” (TCODE- SE93).
    Enter the Transaction VD02 for which you want to find BADI.
    Click on the Display push buttons.
    Get the Package Name. (Package VS in this case)
    Go to TCode: SE84->Enhancements->Business Add-inns->Definition
    Enter the Package Name and Execute.
    Here you get a list of all the Enhancement BADI’s for the given package MB.
    The simplese way for finding BADI is
    1. chooes Tcode Program & package for that Tcode.
    2. Go to Tcode se18
    3. Press F4
    4. search by package or by program.

  • How to search for a word in a text editor

    Hi,
       I have created a custom container and added some text to it. Is there any method to search for words in this?

    Lilan,
    To search a character field for a particular pattern, use the SEARCH statement as follows:
    SEARCH <c> FOR <str> <options>.
    The statement searches the field <c> for <str> starting at position <n1>. If successful, the return code value of SY-SUBRC is set to 0 and SY-FDPOS is set to the offset of the string in the field <c>. Otherwise, SY-SUBRC is set to 4.
    The search string <str> can have one of the following forms.
    <str>
    Function
    <pattern>
    Searches for <pattern> (any sequence of characters). Trailing blanks are ignored.
    .<pattern>.
    Searches for <pattern>. Trailing blanks are not ignored.
    *<pattern>
    A word ending with <pattern> is sought.
    <pattern>*
    Searches for a word starting with <pattern>.
    Words are separated by blanks, commas, periods, semicolons, colons, question marks, exclamation marks, parentheses, slashes, plus signs, and equal signs.
    <option> in the SEARCH FOR statement can be any of the following:
    ABBREVIATED
    Searches the field <c> for a word containing the string in <str>. The characters can be separated by other characters. The first letter of the word and the string <str> must be the same.
    STARTING AT <n1>
    Searches the field <c> for <str> starting at position <n1>. The result SY-FDPOS refers to the offset relative to <n1> and not to the start of the field.
    ENDING AT <n2>
    Searches the field <c> for <str> up to position <n2>.
    AND MARK
    If the search string is found, all the characters in the search string (and all the characters in between when using ABBREVIATED) are converted to upper case.
    Pls. Mark

  • How to search for password policy

    Hello,
    Using DS 5.2:
    I've created a test policy, dn: cn=Test Policy,ou=People, o=xxx, o=isp. I can apply the policy, I can see the policy in my backup ldifs, but I can't figure out how to search for and display it (and eventually, delete it) either from the command line using ldapsearch or form within the admin gui. Any help?

    What I would like to do is query my 8i instance for the current password policy
    Can anyone provide a query to retrieve this info?connect as sys
    in Oracle 8i and issue the command;
    select object_name,object_type from all_objects where object_name like '%PASS%';
    and
    select object_name,object_type from all_objects where object_name like '%POLICY%';
    I think , i'm not sure these policies would be transfered to 10g through migration except -if any- some of them are obsolete to 10g!!!!!
    Regards,
    Simon

  • Please answer. how to search for files

    Hi,
    We need an integration with SAP. They send us files in the format: yyyymmddhhmiss.atv
    For example we receive following files:
    20050503101115.atv
    20050504101115.atv
    20050505101115.atv
    So, we dont know how to search for all files with extensions ".atv" in the directory.
    We are using PLSQL. Is there some way to resolve with UTL_FILE?
    Any other suggestion?

    A possibility:
    In sqlplus, issue a HOST command to list the files to a file:
    ls *.atv &gt; atv_dir.txt
    Then use utl_file to read atv_dir.txt and parse it for the file names.
    You could put the filenames in a pl/sql table and use that as loop control.
