Make sure your routers are set to wpa2.  This is done through your routers settings.

  • Need help on how to secure my wireless connection.....

im new to the wireless thing and im trying to figure all this stuff out. i bought the wireless g 2.4 broadband router  because i have a wireless notebook and everthing has been going fine until recently. i have excellent connection but my speed keeps going up and down but it use to stay on 54 Mbps or 48 Mbps (my notebook connection) can tell me whats wrong on that part? Another issue is how do i manually go about securing my connection because i feel like anybody can use my connection  and that my desktop computer that houses the connection is vulnerable. All these problems started ever since a suspicious vehicle was stopping around my house. please help

Hi…First of all hardwire your computer with your router and then Login in router setup page through your internet explorer by typing in 192.168.1.1 in Internet Explorer > address bar > skip username and enter ‘admin’ as password > click ok. You will get router setup page in front of you, click Wireless Tab > click 2nd Sub Tab under Wireless as ‘Wireless Security’, enable wireless security, select WEP and security mode, wireless encryption level as 64 Bit 10 hex digits, and type in 10 digit number without any spaces, symbols and alphabets in WEP Key 1 box. And that’s your wireless network key or password. Do not change any other settings on that page and click save settings and then exit the page. As a result your wireless network is secured. Use that 10 digit number when your wireless computer will demand it while connecting to your wireless network.

  • How many pcs can wirelessly connect to an Officejet P1102w printer

What limits how many separate PCs can connect to an Office Jet P1102w. Is there a limit in the printer or is the limit more likely to be in the router?

    Hi KiamaraKid,
I understand you have a Laserjet P1102W printer and are wanting to know whether there is a limit on the printer as to how many computers can connect via network, or if the limitation would be on the router's end. I will do my best to help you with this issue.
With our HP printers wireless performance depends on physical environment and distance from the access point (router). Wireless operations are compatible with 2.4 GHz routers only as well. So the short answer is that the limitation is mainly on the router.
If you can get back to me with the router make and model, I will certainly see what I can find for you about it's limitations (meaning, how many computers can connect successfully to the router and thus the printer).
Hope this helps! Have a great day!

  • How to share mobile wireless connection from Win XP to mac?

    Hi,
I have two comupters, one mac and one PC (win XP). I am trying to share the mobile wireless broadband from my PC to the mac. I set up the sharing from mac to PC successfully quite a while ago, but now I need to work extensively on mac. So I tried to set up the sharing in the other around and nothing worked at all. Here is what I did.
    1. I enabled the sharing of the mobile wireless connection on PC.
    2. I tried to set up a small/home network, but it didn't work on Mac as the windows softwares can't be run on mac
    3. I also tried to set up a peer-to-peer connection from PC to Mac which also didn't work.
Does anyone how to do the sharing from PC to Mac? Thanks a lot!

Okay, firstly some routers or mdoems come with 2 ports on the back so you can connect two different computers so simply plug them both in
if not, then i advise you buy a router which allows you to add numerous computers to the same network via wires or add numerous computers wirelessly
i have one computer connect to my netgear router -wired
i have one computer wirelessly connected with a Netgear USB wireless reciever
then i got my laptop which is connected via wireless
i have xbox live which i connect to the internet via my laptops wireless connection, this can be done with any pc or laptop aswell
    what you do is
wireless networks - where it showws any detected networks
change advanced options - on the side
    advanced tab
then allow other computers to use this computers internet connection
    simple as
all you do is plug in your other pc or whatever

  • How to secure my internet connection?

I have a linkseys wireless router which I use for my macbook and my two other imacs at home. The internet is really fast with the imacs, but so much slower with my macbook. Even when the two imacs are off and im only using the internet on my macbook, it is still considerably slower most of the time! Is it because I didnt secure my internet connection and other people might be using it? And it always shows a strong signal so I have no idea why the internet is so much slower on my macbook than on my imacs.

It doesn't make sense that your iMac's are working fast but your MacBook is not with respect to people stealing (or rather using) your Internet connection. I'm thinking there's a configuration problem with your MacBook.
I'd first like to say, do you realize you are responsible for what happens through your Internet connection?
    Now let's get you secure.
Linksys makes some good stuff, but first let me understand more about your network. I'm assuming all three of your Mac's are wireless. If so then you'll have to secure all of them.
Depending on the age of your Linksys you could have a few options for securing it. I'll go in order of most secure to least secure.
    1. WPA2 Personal encryption. If you can set this on your router, great. If not continue on...
    2. WEP encryption. Better than nothing
    3. No encryption but turn off SSID broadcasting. this makes your network hidden from casual users. Note: not from hackers!
Okay, you'll need to connect to your router. Usually 192.168.1.1 for Linksys. The login account will be admin with no password (or use password for the password). Sorry it's been awhile since I hacked into, er rather used a Linksys router.
Just open your web browser and type in the routers IP address (if you look at your network TCP/IP settings, the routers IP will be listed under, well... router.
Okay once you are connected to the router it should have a web based configuration. This is where you'll turn on encryption and turn off the SSID broadcast.
It would be best if you post back and let us know you've made it this far and to clarify any questions you have.

  • How to set up wireless connection

I just got the Macbook Pro. Unfortunately, I've never used a Mac before and am foreign to the interface. I have a D-Link router. How do I go about setting it up? I'm not computer savvy at all.
I know you go to System Preferences - Network, but then what?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    jaynew,
Hello Jay, and welcome to the Discussions!!
There shouldn't be much you need to do. First, we need to know a few things about your router. Is the wireless network password-protected (encrypted)? Does the router broadcast the SSID?
Any "open" wireless routers should be recognized by "Airport" (which is what Apple calls standard 802.11x wireless networking), and you will be asked if you want to join whatever networks are found. While Airport will "see" any password-protected networks that are broadcasting an SSID (basically, the name of the network), and it will show them in a list that appears in the "Airport menu" at the top of your display, it won't automatically ask you if you would like to join.
Out of the box, all Macs should be pre-configured to go online via a wireless network automatically. You can turn Airport on and off, from the menu I mentioned above, but it should be on by default. Double-check that it is: In your "Menu Bar," at the top of the display, look for a triangle with a curved top and concentric lines. This is your "Airport menu." Open it, and make sure that it reads "Turn Airport Off." Otherwise, it will read "Turn Airport On." You want it to be on
Assuming your wireless network is secured (password-protected), you'll need to select it from that same menu, then choose the correct encryption protocol, then enter the correct password. Provided you get all this right, you will join your network and gain a connection to the internet. Alternating lines on the Airport menu icon will turn black to show the signal strength. Also, you will be asked if you would like to store the authentication credentials for this network in your Keychain. You do!
If you still have trouble at this point, you might need to have a look at System Preferences>Network. First, use the "Show:" pull-down menu to select "Network Port Configurations." You will see a list of potential network ports, among them "Airport," "Ethernet," Firewire," etc. If you want Airport to be your main mode of internet connection, drag it to the top, and make sure it has a check next to it (make sure that it is enabled). Your Mac will look for internet connections in the order outlined in this list.
Next, change the "Show:" menu to select "Airport." In this window, click the "Airport" tab. The "By default, join:" menu should read "Automatic." Now click the "TCP/IP" tab. The "Configure IPv4:" menu should read "Using DHCP." You shouldn't need to bother with the other tabs.
That just about covers most any situation. If it does not cover yours, give us some more info, and we'll try to respond.

  • How to set default wireless connection

At another house for a while, how do I get the local wifi to connect automatically?

    Hi,
You just have to connect to the wifi with the Airport icon on the top left corner of then menu bar, next the hour indicator.
You probably have to enter the password, if you check save the password for this local wifi, next time, your macintosh will connect automatically.
That's ok for my local wifi at house, and for local wifi at dad's house.
    pretty simple like a mac

  • How do i restore wireless connectivity to our mx 922 printer?

Have you recently made changes to your network (network name, password, router, internet service provider)? If so, you can re-do the wireless setup from the operation panel of the printer itself.
Press the Menu button and go to WLAN setup, press ok. If it asks you to press and hold a WPS button, press the STOP button on the printer, then you should see an option for Standard Setup. Press ok and it will look for the networks near you. Select your network, press OK and then enter in the password. Should get you up and running again.

    Hi George,
After turning on the wireless radio on your printer there should be a new network available called "hpsetup".
Join this, and then print a network test sheet.
From there type in the IP in your web browser,
From this page you'll be able to change settings to set it up for your network, such as SSID and WEP/WPA security.

  • Wireless  Connection: how do I know the speed?

I have my iMac core duo connected via Ethernet to my 802.11n Airport extreme, as well as my mini SCintel via wireless, and my macbook 2.16 core 2 duo via wireless as well. All work well, but i would like to know how to find out 2 things. First, how can i check the bandwidth of my connection, as in my internet connection speed? I have a 3mBs service, and want to know how fast my connection really is> is there an application within my mac, or a 3rd party app that can show me my connection bandwidth or speed? Second question is, is there an application that can tell me who is using my wireless network?
    Any help would be appreciated

You can check the speed of your Broadband connection by going to http://speedtest.net
The interface is pretty easy to navigate, just click on a pyramid. The recommended one is gold and the rest are blue.
I am not aware of how to tell the wireless connection speed on a Mac.
You can usually tell who is using your wireless by logging into the router and looking at the DHCP client table.
