How to see colors on my Mac the way a PC user sees them

Hi all,
I've been scouring the web to try and find a simple explanation of how best to calibrate color on my Mac so that photos that I edit there will appear properly when viewed on the web by a Windows user.
I was working using a profile that made the images look great on the Mac (I think it was a Gamma of 1.8 and temperature of "Monitor Default"), but when I saw the images in IE6 on a Windows PC, they all looked dark and over-shadowed.
So... now for the questions:
(1) Is there a way to calibrate the monitor so it better represents what a PC user would see? (I've read that using the sRGB profile is close, but didn't know if there was a way to get even closer)
(2) If you use Windows on an Intel Mac under either Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop, are the colors displayed the same way a PC user would see them? (I may be updating my PowerBook G4 to a MacBook Pro and would want to have a "test environment" that could emulate PC colors).

In Windows, the default gamma is a much darker 2.2 with a bright bluish white point of 6500K. Change your Mac's display profile to match those settings and the images you create under those settings should look much closer to how you see them on your Mac in Windows.
Profiles are very important in RGB. They let color management software (Kodak in Windows, ColorSync in the Mac OS) know what to do with the image when you open it. That is, when the source and destination profiles don't match (both the monitor and image profiles), the software knows how to alter the image values so the picture looks close to the same on one computer as another. With no profiles embedded, the color management software can't determine the original color spaces. As such, how the images will display on any given monitor will vary slightly, or a lot. It all depends on how that monitor is set up. But this pertains more to color then overall contrast, though it does affect both.
Some (not all) web browsers are aware of profiles. Safari is one. So even if your files have a gamma of 2.2, and a person visiting your web site has their monitor set to a 1.8 gamma, Safari can adjust the color of the images on the fly to have them view correctly by knowing the difference between the embedded image profiles and the user's monitor settings. It's not perfect, but works pretty well.

How to see my PC's/ Macs in my workgroup from my Mac running Leopard

I am having trouble viewing any other computers (PC's and my G3 iMac) from my Quicksilver running OS 10.5. In previous versions of OS X I would click on the network icon on the left side of the finder window and I could see them, but now that's no longer there in the Leopard finder.
Using the other method (going to "Go", "Connect to Server", then "Browse") nothing shows up. It is the same on my G3 iMac running Panther, but when I click on the Network icon in the Panther Finder, I see a Folder with the name of my workgroup and inside it are all of my computers).
So basically, how do I view my workgroup computers in Leopard? BTW, all computers have file sharing enabled.

In Leopard in System Preferences > Sharing With File Sharing selected go to the Advanced Button.
Is SMB Enabled ?
Also is the Finder's Preferences set to the Share items marked with the Red Info ?
Lastly, on the Windows Machines is Sharing Enabled (i.e Can the PCs see each other ?) If the PCs can not see each other then it is unlikely the Macs will "see" them.
(Just covering bases with this one - you seem to imply this but don't actually state it)

How to: see jpgs in folders as jpgs?

The one thing that really bothers me with OSX is when I open a folder full of jpgs and all I see is the same jpg icon repeated and the name of the original jpg.
Is there a way in OSX or a third party application that will allow me to open any folder in icon view and if there is a graphic see a thumbnail of that graphic insteat of a generic graphic icon?
My reason is, I use a lot of graphics in my work and often need to find one very quickly. I have a folder full of jpgs and they are often numbered rather than described. A '57 Chevy will be described as 984058.jpg and I end up spending a lot of time trying to find the right jpg. I want to be able to open that folder and see a thumbnail of that '57 Chevy for quick selection.

Thanks Anne but I do have Graphic Converter and it doesn't do anything for the files in a folder.
Maybe I haven't explained it correctly but I created, on my desktop, a folder called "Flowers" and in that folder I have 100 jpgs of clipart tulips. When I open that folder all I see is one jpg icon repeated 100 times with names beneath it saying tulip001.jpg, tulip002.jpg, tulip003.jpg, etc.
I don't know which tulip is which. So I have to click on several and ask the system to open them up with Preview the file through them until I find the tulip I need.
I should be able to open that folder and see a small thumbnail of each individual tulip.
Thanks for your reply tho'. BTW, I find Graphics Converter to be one of the most difficult graphics program available for the Mac user. I used to use a program called Embellish which was a somewhat pro version of your standard Paint program but it included the ability to create and manipulate animations. Graphics Converter is a PITA and the learning curve is extremely high.
OTOH, ColorIt! is close to the old Embellish, includes the ability to generate animations, but is quite expensive at $60 and is still a PPC app so it runs in Rosetta and sometimes crashes because of it.

Hi everyone.. the problem is: The server have all the UUID or ID of the computers.... but in windows we know how to see that but in mac we dont have idea to where see this number... so.. i try in terminal with some commands but everytime say the UUID of hardware or UUID of user but i need other UUID and this UUID is the number that the server say that is mine....

Ok, Mr. Happy Duck, mouse over to the Apple menu in the top/left corner, select About this Mac. Click on More Info... then on System Report... The Hardware overview should give you all you need.

Well if there is a EFI block, then running a program in OS X isn't going to do a lick of good.
After all EFI was designed for Trusted Computing and Digital Rights Management, to act between the OS and hardware, can read drives, contact the Internet and everything.
Windows doesn't use EFI, will have UEFI in Windows 8 though.

To view it in an acceptable format, yes. You can try using an opensource program such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice and see if it yields better results. However, I'm sure if it would be compatible with a document made with word processing software from 9 years ago, but I would certainly give it a try.

You have to do it on the Apple TV itself while it's plugged into a TV so that you can see its screen.

Hello Kiran,
The inline-vlan-pair itself is tied to a particular interface. So you're really asking for the MAC address of the interface associated with the inline-vlan-pair.
The MAC address of sensing ports will be added to a "show interfaces" via CSCse84414. You can currently view the MAC address of sensing interfaces by doing an "ifconfig -a" from the service account.

Hi, i found my answer.
It turns out that mac doesn't use type. Instead i had to check on extension
contents[i].extension=="jpg"
How i found out? to alert some variables like this.
first i checked if the folder assets/folder1 exists
import mx.utils.ObjectUtil;

directory = directory.resolvePath("gardenimages/"+foldername+"");
Alert.show("test:"+ObjectUtil.toString(directory));
It will get you a long list of info on the folder. by checking the nativepath, url and exists we can tell if the folder is there.
Now check the contents of that folder to see if the images are there.

How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline in FCP 7 (yes, I have X, but I'm using 7 right now). I have two monitors running from TB2, but want to have the third for a client monitor.
If I use all three via TB2, it's literally three monitors, and I want to edit on my CineDisplay. I only want the client to see the timeline video on the third monitor. When I hook up HDMI I get no signal, in fact, I can't have the HDMI cable hooked up for TB2 to work with the third.
