How to select Oracle Home

Probably an embarrasingly simple question but nevertheless it has me stuck. I just installed Oracle 11gR1 on a windows server 2008 box and now have both Oracle 10gR2 and Oracle 11gR1 installed. The Oracle Home Selector is no longer available from the start menu and the installation guide suggests using the Universal Installer to choose between homes. I am unable to figure out how to do this. Please guide me. Thanks.
Bill Wagman

The HomeSelector has now been folded into OUI. The following steps would help in accomplishing this task:
Bring up the Oracle 10g Installer and Click on Installed Products. Then go to the Environment tab.
Here you can find the HomeSelector which uses the OUI inventory to list the homes. The old Home Selector used the registry entries to look at the installed homes. But in Oracle 10g the registry entries use the KEY_ format.
Hence the old Home Selector will not be able to see Oracle 10g homes in the list. If you want to switch between 8i, 9i and 10g Homes, use the Home Selector which is available inside the 10g installer.

    Hi
I am trying to install Oracle 11g on my Red Hat Linux 5 (VMWare). I have completed all the pre-requisites realted to Kernel settings, creating groups, users, home and base directories. When I started running the 'runInstaller' and started the installation, it gave me an error saying...

Anyone any idea what is going on?

you haave to switch off vmware add new disk from vmware console. then using format tool you can add partition for unallocated space. and add them in volume.
space increase by adding new disk.

  • How to Find Oracle Home Name

    Hi All,
I am trying to find what is the name provided for ORACLE HOME NAME for SSO Midtier.
The install log files are not available. Now when i try to patch the SSO it is prompting for the Oracle home name and path, for which I donot know the value for Oracle Home Name.
Is there any file apart from install log will have this value or is there any way i can see it from the OEM console?
    Regards,
    Balaji

    Hi,
    The server has:
    1 SSO
    1 MidTier
But have been installed with the same Oracle Home Name - oracleas
Now I have to patch the SSO to 10.1.2.2.0
During patching if I give oracelas1 as oracle home name it automatically changes its path to Mid Tier path.
If i manually change it to SSO path it throws an error.
If i give a new Oracle Home Name manually and type the oracle home for SSO, it says this SSO doesnot need the patch 10.1.2.2.0 but the SSO still runs on 10.1.2.0.2
Let me know if i am clearly.

  • Help please..how to specify Oracle Home directory for create AS connection

I have linux based application server 10g having IP 121.100.115.2 and name as10g.ourdomain.com (/home/oracle/OraHome_2 is AS directory)
I have developed a simple jsp page using JDeveloper10g. In order to deploy this project, I am trying to create Application Server Connection using wizard.
    step1:
    connection name: as10g
    connection type:oracle application server 10g
    step2:
    user name: ias_admin
    password: mypassord
    step3:
enterprise manager OC4J host name: 121.100.115.2
enterprise manager OC4J http port: 1156
Remote Server's Oracle home directory: /oracle/OraHome_2

    RMI Server URL: ormi://121.100.115.2:23791
    RMI username: admin
    RMI password: {blank}
    step5
When I click on test button I get this error:
Test failed (-2). Invalid Oracle Home directory

When you create the stand alone, in options you can actually set the temp directory and default directory. You can change it there OR in goto options and check for libraries/directories. You can change it there too.

  • How to compare oracle homes

    Hi,
I'm familiar and use the comparison tool for servers/os and it works good. Also used the feature to compare databases. I'm interested in comparing oracle_homes betwee 2 boxes, what's different?
Any ideas how to do it?
    Thanks

From the java console, you can use change manager. I haven't taken a look closely at 10gR3...apparently, it's supposed to be there.

  • [INS-32021] Insufficient disk space on this volume for the selected Oracle

    Folks,
Hello. I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC Grid using Installer whose location is: /home/.../grid/runInstaller.
I am on step 4 of 8 in the Wizard whose contents are as follows:
    Oracle Base: /u01/11g_grid
    Software Location: /u01/app/grid
    Cluster Registry Type: ASM
    OSASM Group: dba
When click "next" button I got this error:
" [INS-32021] Insufficient disk space on this volume for the selected Oracle home
Cause - The selected Oracle home was on a volume without enough disk space.
Action - Choose a location for Oracle home that has enough space (minimum of 3,017MB) or free up space on the existing volume. "
I test my "home" directory using the command: [ora11g@rac1 home]$ df -k
    Its Ouput:
    Filesystem: /dev/sda1 and tmpfs
    1K-blocks: 20,308,020 and 848,184
    Used: 18,888,968 and 0
    Available: 370,816 and 848,184
    Use: 99% and 0%
    Mounted on : / and /dev/shm
I run another command: [ora11g@rac1 u01]$df -k and got the same output as above.
    My questions are:
First, is "Oracle home" the directory "/home/..." or the directory "/u01/..." ?
Second, how to increase the space for the correct directory to be over 3017MB (Minimum) ?
    Thanks.

    Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying.
I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2).The Virtual Disk for each VM is 20 GB whose raw device is /dev/sda (partition /dev/sda1 is the same size).
In order to install Grid Infrastructure, I add 5 Hard Disks into the first VM rac1 and 10GB for each Hard Disk. Then create 5 ASM disks respectively as a Disk Group. Let me describe them as follows:
    OS Phyysical file: C:\VM_RAC\sharerac\asmdisk1.vmdk (asmdisk2.vmdk asmdisk3.vmdk asmdisk4.vmdk asmdisk5.vmdk)
Corresponding raw devices: /dev/sdb (sdc sdd sde sdf)
    Corresponding partition: /dev/sdb1 (sdc1 sdd1 sde1 sdf1)
    Corresponding ASM disk: ASMDISK1 (ASMDISK2 ASMDISK3 ASMDISK4 ASMDISK5)
When I run Grid installer step 5 of 8, I select all of 5 ASMDISK as ASM disk group on step 5 of 8 in the Wizard.
The clusterware files are supposed to be stored in the ASM disk group.
But it seems that on step 4 of 8 in the Wizard, the installer install the Oracle Home /u01 into VM rac1 Hard Disk /dev/sda1 and get the above error message - not enough disk space.
    My questions are:
First, Why does the Installer store Oracle Home /u01 in /dev/sda1 because it should be in the Disk Group /dev/sdb1 (sdc1 sdd1 sde1 sdf1) ?
Second, Does the Installer go wrongly ?
Third, How to have the Installer store the clasterware files in ASM Disk Group ?
    Thanks.

  • ODI installation out of Oracle home

    Hi,
I have to install Oracle Data Integrator on a development server where EPM 11.1.2 is already installed. I encounter the following error after setting the install folder (I leave it to default: D:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1):
OUI-10044: The selected Oracle Home location already contains an Oracle Home
or APPL_TOP created while running a different OS
I've done some research and found [ that post|http://gerardnico.com/wiki/database/oracle/oui-10044], which didn't help much.
Basically my ODI file shiphomeproperties.xml shows an OS id 233, which is good.
The problem might be that I have two Oracle folders under C:/. One under "Program Files(x86)" that shows an OS id of 912 and another under "Program Files" which shows an OS id 233. Now I'm guessing that the Oracle installer looks into the wrong file...
Now I might have a workaround, if I change the default install folder, for example to Oracle1, I can access the next step.
My question is to know if it's ok to installl ODI in another Oracle home, is it ok to have two oracle home ?
    thanks for your help.

  • Installation of Workflow-2.6.3 failing on 10gR2 Oracle Home

    Hi
I have installed Oracle 10g R2 on windows 2000. When I am trying to install Workflow server 2.6.3 on this existing Oracle Home, I am getting the error message as the selected Oracle Home is not a 10G Oracle Home.
Can anybody suggest me can we use Oracle Workflow Server 2.6.3 on 10.2. Regards

    Hi,
For 10gR2, you should install Workflow 2.6.4 which ships on the companion CD to the 10g database.

  • Oracle XE (Windows) Multiple Oracle Homes

I have a question in regards to Oracle Express Edition and how it maintains Oracle Home.
I currently have multiple Oracle Homes on my machine. In order for apps like SQL Developer or PLSQL Developer to see the correct TNSNAMES entries, I usually have to use the Home Selector from the Installation tools to properly obtain the correct tnsnames entries in the dropdowns.
Now, I'm a Linux DBA, not to keen on Oracle environments for Windows. But, when I installed Oracle Express Edition, none of my Applications SQL Developer or PLSQL Developer recognize the tnsnames entries for my environment. From the 9i Home Selector I see that it is in the correct environment I want it to use. But it seems Express has overriden somehow.
Can anyone lead me into the right direction to switch between my XE Environment to my 9i environments?
    Thanks.

I did it too, but the beta over beta software is just too dangerous.. you never know what is crashing your system :)

  • Forms installation problem - how do I create a new default Oracle home?

I am new to Oracle so please forgive my utter ignorance. My impression of Oracle because of how an installation
has to be done is taking a nosedive. I thought Microsoft was bad with all the re-booting but the explanation that I
read in Anubhav Seth's post about installing Dev 6i before 8i and the suggestion (not a requirement) to format the
harddisk and reinstall Windows just leaves me with my jaw hanging open. I'm having a little trouble swallowing that
    one.
Here's my situation... I'm running 8i at home and I am using it for the Oracle courses that I am taking at a local
university. So 8i with its SQL*Plus has been all I have needed to date. Now we have a project to do that involves forms.
So I go to the OTN page for downloads and downloaded file 6irel2nt.exe which is 264 MB in size. This file, I assume,
has forms in it -- what else I don't know because things are not explained all that well on the web site or I don't know
where to look (which implies poor organization of the web pages).
I run the 6irel2nt.exe file and end up with 11,128 new files on my computer. That's nice. I run the setup file and a step or
two into it it complains that my 'Ora81' home is already being used and that I need to install it into another Oracle Home.
Now I'm trying to find out how I create another Oracle Home. I perform a search in GOOGLE on "creat default Oracle
home" and basically get nowhere. My $50+ "Oracle 8i A Beginner's Guide" from Oracle Press mentions Oracle Home
on one page (pg. 170) but is completely useless in this case. My $184 worth of Oracle University manuals (which
are really PowerPoint slides) is useless too. My next step will be to comb through the FAQs. All this because I cannot
believe that I have to totally uninstall one product to get another to install and then reinstall the first one. That is INSANE!
If I have gone way off track please feel free to blast me but if this is true then all I can say is that the folks at Oracle need
a lesson in KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)! Computers and computer software are supposed to make our lives simpler
not complicate the holy hell out of them. I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry about the whining.

I ended up uninstalling 8i and then I installed Dev 6i (Forms) and then I reinstalled 8i. I had some problems
installing Dev 6i because of this error "path.vrf(86): Unbound variable 'path_too_long_prompt'". Right after this error
appears I get a dialog that states, "The Oracle Installer cannot update the system path variable to %new_path%
because it is too long. Please restrict your system path to 127 characters and make sure D:\Oracle\OraWin95\bin
    is included in your path."
The path D:\Oracle\OraWin95 was what I set up for this installation.
What I did to work around this problem was this...
    (1) Go to Start - Accessories - System Tools - System Information.
    (2) Click on the Tools menu
    (3) Select System Configuration Utility
    (4) Select the Autoexec.bat tab
    (5) I added D:\Oracle\OraWin95\bin to my PATH variable and unchecked the checkbox next to one of the several
lines that I have that build my PATH variable. (I have several PATH lines that simply add a path to the system
variable %path%). After the installation is complete you can go back and turn back on the paths that you had disabled.
After installing 8i I did have a problem connecting to the database. I got this error:
    Error: ORA-01034 Oracle not available
I believe this happened because I had forgotten to turn back on some of my PATH information that I mentioned
earlier. After checking one of my PATH variables and rebooting, this problem disappeared.
When reinstalling 8i and when the installation asks for an SID and you enter the SID you had used in the original
installation you may get a notice that says the SID already exists. I think this happens because the uninstall does not
clean up the registry totally, so I entered a different one. Later on, after the installation has been completed and you
are connecting to your database, you will be prompted to select an SID -- just make sure that you select the SID from
    the latest installation.
I should've mentioned first that in preparing for this whole ridiculous exercise I created a directory under my Oracle
directory that I was going to use as the new 'Oracle home.' So I guess that's all one has to do to create a new Oracle
home -- just have another directory ready to install 'stuff' into.
All in all, this a pretty asinine exercise. Oracle really needs to fix this mess. I honestly thought Microsoft was bad but
this takes the cake. I wonder if SQL Server is this screwed up.

  • How to select active Oracle ODBC Driver programmatically?

    Hi,
My application creates ODBC DSN to connect with Oracle 10g database server. I need to find out Oracle Driver installed on the system programmatically. I am trying to read KEY_<PRODUCT NUMBER> registry key and eventually searching ORACLE_HOME value. This helps me in searching Oracle Driver in ODBCINST.INI registry key. (Oracle in OraDb10g_home1)
If multiple Oracle clients are installed on the same system, multiple KEY_<PRODUCT NUMBER> registry keys and oracle drivers would be available. I am not sure which and how to select the current active oracle driver.
    Oracle in OraDb10g_home1
    Oracle in OraDb10g_home2
Can anybody help me out? Can I use inventory file (inventory.xml) to determince current active home directory? Reading PATH environment variable to identity active home directory would be tedious.
