How to select rows or columns of tables without using the mouse?

In Excel, I can select entire rows or columns of data WITHIN TABLES--i.e., not selecting entire sheet rows or columns--by going to any cell on the perimeter of the table, holding down shift+ctrl, and clicking a direction arrow. So for example, if I have a table in columns D-G and rows 1-5, I can highlight row 4 by going to the first or last cell of that row, holding down the shift+ctrl, and hitting the appropriate direction arrow. You might think this is superfluous given that you can use the mouse to select cells. But that becomes cumbersome with large tables, and this method can be more efficient even with small tables.
Similarly, it's often useful to navigate tables, particularly large ones, by moving from any cell within the table to the end or beginning of that row or column by holding down ctrl and hitting the appropriate arrow key. In Excel, this ctrl+arrow key method also allows you to skip blank cells, which is another very useful navigational feature.
I tried numerous combos involving shift, ctrl, command, alt/option and the arrow keys. Haven't found a way to do any of this yet.

Numbers is organized differently than Excel, and the navigation tools are different too. Many of us miss our particular favorites from spreadsheets past, but this is Numbers, not a clone. The biggest adjustment is to go from huge monolithic sheet-tables containing virtual sub-tables to a simple blank sheet with small tables, sometimes many per sheet. Navigating is no big deal in these small tables and neither is getting from one small table to another, using the Sheets pane.
Selecting a particular Table is as easy as clicking on the table's name in the Sheets pane. Selecting a particular row, or column, or ranges of rows or columns is done by clicking on the table's row and column labels, left side and top side once a cell is selected in the table.
Numbers is weak at handling large Tables and documents that are large overall. We know this and many of us still prefer it to the alternative when the tool fits the task.

How to dismiss the spelling dialogue without using the mouse

I'd appreciate the right tip from anyone on how to dismiss the spelling dialogue in Mail without using the mouse. (I'm one of those guys who likes to use the keyboard as much as possible.) Here's the scenario:
I open a new message in Mail, type my text, press Cmd-Shift-D, then (because I have it set to check spelling when I "click send") up pops the spelling dialogue. That's fine as far as it goes, but many times I don't need any corrections because either I don't care or because the words are fine but just not recognized by Mail. So until now what I do is use the mouse to click on the far left one of the three round buttons in the upper left corner of the dialogue. I would like not to have to use the mouse, but pressing Esc or any other keys I try doesn't work to make it go away.

Well, that window is actually a floating window, which means that it is meant to hang around. Notice that if you move Mail to the background (without hiding it), the spelling window hides itself, then shows itself again when you bring Mail back to the front. Floating windows are kind of in their own little world, meant to float above windows while not interfering with keystrokes sent to the frontmost window.
I would argue that it shouldn't be a floater, because nobody's going to want it around once they're done checking spelling. But that's kind of a matter of opinion, and obviously Mail's designers thought differently.
BTW, in the course of writing this, I discovered something -- if you click in the spelling window, so that you could type in the field there, Command-W will actually close the floater. But, of course, that still requires a click in the window with the mouse.

How do you logon to OS X Lion Without Using Your Mouse

I thought the answer to this question would be really easy to find on the web but I have had no luck so far so I am now hoping you guys on the Mac forum can provide the right answer.
So.... How do you login to your Mac OS when you can not use a mouse or other pointing device (trackpad)?
I have looked all over the Apple web site, and although there are lots of hints and tips on hundreds of keyboard shortcuts, there is nothing on logging in to your Mac OS without using a mouse. I struggle to beleive this is not possible.

Generally TAB generally moves through the Dialog buttons & Space Bar selects that choice where Enter/Return chooses the default blue button. Sometimes the CMD key + the first letter of the button selects it iirc. Sometimes the esc key passes for Cancel.
If it's not, in Sys Prefs change if the “Full keyboard access” under keyboard shortcuts is set to use text boxes and lists only, switch it to “All controls”.

How can I navigate through tabs without using the mouse?

I want to know how to navigate through tabs without using a mouse... just like you can navigate through multiple windows by using <alt><tab> ... because it's extremely annoying when I'm working on something to have to take my hands off the keyboard and go to the mouse.

You can also use Ctrl + Page Up and Ctrl + Page Down to go to the next and previous tab. I prefer those because it doesn't require the Shift key (Shift + Ctrl+ Tab) to go to the previous tab.

How to SELECT ALL records of a TABLE VIEW in the BSP page

In the BSP portal, I am displaying some data(multple records) in the form of a table using the BSP TAG <htmlb:tableView>. I wrote the logic in the 'VIEW' of the BSP application which will be triggered by the controller. I have used the attribute selectionMode = "MULTISELECT" to have a Check Box to select a row.
My requirement is to have a button/checkbox on the first column of the header of the table view. By clicking on this, it should select/desect all the records of the table. Could someone please help me how to do this? What attribute I should use in the tableview to get the button in the header row of the table and how to select all the records of the table.?

How to find certain words based on table without overwriting the old one

I have a list of words available in one particular table, based on those records i need to match it up with one specific column on another table. Based on that match i need to update the same. below is answer for this question;
Design a new query. Select your data table and your words table. No join line between them.
Drag datatable.* to the design grid, and the field to check. In the criteria for that field write:
Like '*' & [wordstable]![wordsfield] & "*"
(of course you change this to your object names)
But now my another question is that how i can do update without replacing the existing one. Like for example " Peter is engineering degree".
In this example if i have words like ring and degree on my reference table, then as per the solution it will update the degree first then later if its find ring on the text then it will overwrite the degree on the particular column. How i can prevent

I think what you are saying is that you want to avoid specious substring matches such as finding 'engineering' when searching for 'ring'. Right? If so use the following function rather than the LIKE operator to identify the 'word' rather than merely

How do i make selections without using the mouse?

for example, when I go to quit Photoshop, there is a box that comes up that asks whether I want to save changes to a file before I quit. Below are three buttons; "Don't Save", "Cancel", and "Save". The "Save" button is a dark blue, and if I simply hit the return key, I've made my selection as "Save". I know that if I hit the "Command" key and the period at the same time, I've made my selection as "Cancel".
What I can't figure out is how to make the selection for "Don't Save" only using the keyboard?

command d clicks the "Don't save" button from the keyboard without having to select it first in almost any application.

How to open a JCalendarCombo without using the mouse ???

In my swing-application i implementet a JCalendarCombo Object for selection of different Date Times.
Now it's necessary to display this JCalendarCombo for example entering a Key (F1/F2 etc.)
I didn't find a possibilty to realize this item.
The JCalendarCombo package is downloaded with the following packages:

The parent Frame was created with sun one studio 4 community edition.
The JCalendar Combo was implemented by myself and runs properly by mouse, not by keyboard.

the code's not formatted so I'm not going to try to read it,
and there's too many ?? to remove before it will compile,
so, you say it works with the mouse - how, clicking a button?
if so, search for the keyBindings tutorial where you can set up
an action for (e.g.) F2 to do button.doClick()

How to find a word and copy the phrase containing the word without using the mouse

I am using a macro to fill in a form and select fields in the form. The fields are titled and i want to use the field title to select the field and thus need to copy the name to compare with the search text and tab to the next requested field.

Ctrl+f opens the search in page feature. However, the result is not automatically selected and ready for copying. And since you already typed the query, you wouldn't really save any time that way...
Firefox has some accessibility features you could explore: [[Accessibility features in Firefox - Make Firefox and web content work for all users]]. These include placing a movable cursor into the page, or searching/selecting using / and other possibly useful items. Maybe between them you can find a good workflow. If not, maybe an add-on?

How can i turn off Find My iPad without using the iPad?

My swipe screen has stopped working completely on my iPad. Very disappointing as it is only 18 months old and has been well looked after! I have tried holding down the off/on button and menu button to reboot but this doesn't work. I have now logged the fault with Apple and have an appointment to see someone in the support team this Monday. However, I wanted to try one more thing. I want to restore to factory settings as I've read that this could resolve the problem. When I plug it in to iTunes and try to restore iPad i get a warning message telling me I need to go to iCloud settings on my iPad and turn off Find My iPad before restoring. As I cannot use the iPad I cant do it from there. Is there another way? Please help me, I want to weep!

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE (this will disable Find My iPhone)
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.

I have Solaris 10 x86. I've ran into problems using the sys-unconfig command
to change hostname and IP address.
How to I manually change the IP address and subnet mask values on Solaris 10 manually?

We just switched over a DNS server by using ifconfig, (same subnet), and killing named. seems to be working fine, anything I should look out for ?
steps:
Prep -
- change name in /etc/hostname.e1000g0
- change name and IP in /etc/hosts and /etc/nodename
- # uname -S dnsint02
Activate
- unplug old dnsint02
# ifconfig e1000g0 192.168.2.80
# kill -9 [PID of named]
Cleanup
- Remove old key on clients I SSH from.
- reconfigure backup software for new name/server combo.
