How to selectivily cut a portion of an object

In Photoshop, I can go into a layer, take a selection too and select a portion of that layer. Then I can cut it out of the layer all together (leaving a hole where the selection was).
It does not appear to be that easy in ID CS3 or is it?
Please advise,
Bob

See the pathfinder panel. The tools you need for this are there.
Note that this not a layer based tool but something to use in objects.

    Hello Halle,
You can extract the audio form a movie clip by selecting the clip that you want the audio from then go to the drop down menu Modify > Detach Audio and then you will see the audio in green and then can move it to where you want it to be. Take a look at the article below for more information how to extract the audio from a video clip. Let me know if this helps

  • How do you cut an imovie clip into two clips?

How do you cut an imovie clip into two clips?  I have a very long clip from which I want to remove the middle (and keep the beginnin and end).

There are several ways to do this. Here are a couple.
    1) Drag the long clip into your project. Drag to select the portion you want to remove. Then right-click/Split Clip. This will give you three clips, the first, the last, and the one in the middle that you want to delete. You can select the middle clip and right-click/Delete Selection.
    2) Drag the long clip into your project. Drag to select the frames you want to delete. Then right-click/Delete Selection.

How to hide cut/copy/paste/Replace… menu on the UIWebView when it is being displayed over the keyboard.
Detail: I am having a HTML from, having text box, displayed using UIWebView. If user types in text box it shows the keyboard. Now If user tap and hold on text box it shows a popup menu. Now while keyboard and pop up are being displayed user scrolls the view. At this time it shows pop up over the keyboard which I need to hide.
I tried setMenuVisible of UIMenuController when popup rect and keyboard rect intersects each other on viewDidScroll but it didn't help me.
Any clues will help a lot.
    Thanks.

  • Is there a way to snap cut/edited portions together on the same track rather than manually having to drag them together?

Is there a way to snap cut/edited portions together on the same track rather than manually having to drag them together?  To elaborate, if I have a 3 minute track of raw audio and I edit out the middle 30 seconds of it I am left with two tracks with a "30 second" area that has no file.  To join them manually I can click and drag one portion of the audio until I match it with the other section but instead, is there a shortcut or function that I could select that automatically marries up the cut portions of the track, thereby eliminating the 30 second gap?

Yes: hold the control key while deleting (or select "delete and move" from the Edit menu.)

How do you cut out a part of an image on a photo that you have added to Pages. For example, if I have added a picture of a giraffe to Pages how would I cut out the giraffe from the image and get rid of the rest of the image

You can use the instant alpha tool to make the background transparent.
FYI: Pages is part of iWork, not iLife.

How do I cut and past on my MACBOOK PRO?

You can use the hotkeys, as Steve said. It sort of sounds as if you can't right click though.
If you're using the touchpad, go into system preferences>trackpad, enable "secondary click, tap with 2 fingers". Then, when you click/tap the touchpad with 2 fingers instead of one, it'll right click, giving you the option to copy/paste whatever you highlighted.

How do I cut an image in half, and move the halves independently?

Use the rectangular marquee tool to select half the image, then Layer>New Layer via cut. You can turn on the rulers and set a guide so you'll know the boundaries you want if you need it to be exactly half.
If you want to also be able to move the other half, before you start double click the background layer in the layers panel to turn it to a regular layer.

  • How do i convert a portion of day into a time?

How do i convert a portion of day into a time, without dividing and modding the number myself?
For example, i calculated solar noon UTC to be .733409047. Adding that to the date gives the correct answer:
    SQL> SELECT TO_DATE('1/1/2012', 'DD/MM/YYYY') + .733409047 FROM Dual;
    TO_DATE('1/1/2012',
    01/01/2012 17:36:07
A few questions, to actually understand this.
Is .733409047 implicitly converted? If so, to what datatype?
If i want HH:MM:SS does it need to be converted to a date, and then TO_CHAR? Or can the decimal be directly converted?
I'm currently trying to understand INTERVAL.
    SQL> select interval '.5' day from dual;
select interval '.5' day from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01867: the interval is invalid
So, i'm obviously misunderstanding it. Can it be used here?

Is .733409047 implicitly converted? If so, to what datatype? No, there is no conversion going on here, just Date Arithmetic .
In Oracle, if d is a DATE and n is a NUMBER (not necessarily an integer, and not necessarily positive), d+n is the DATE that is n days later than d.
If i want HH:MM:SS does it need to be converted to a date, and then TO_CHAR? Or can the decimal be directly converted?Sorry, I don't understand. Are you saying that you want to do something like date arithmetic, but instead of using a number like .733409047 (meaning about .73 of a day), you want to pass a string like '17:36:07' (meaning 17 hours, 36 minutes and 7 seconds)? If so, INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND is probably your best bet. (It looks like you're already thinking along these lines.)
I'm currently trying to understand INTERVAL.
    SQL> select interval '.5' day from dual;
select interval '.5' day from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01867: the interval is invalid
So, i'm obviously misunderstanding it. Can it be used here? You can only use integers like that. If you want to use any number, then use date arithmetic to add to (or subtract from) a DATE, or use NUMTIDSINTERVAL to produce an INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND:
SELECT     NUMTODSINTERVAL (.733409047, 'DAY')     AS intrvl
    FROM     dual;Output:
    INTRVL
    +000000000 17:36:06.541660800
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements), maybe about 5 rows, and also post the results you want from that data.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using.

  • How do i "cut" parts out of tracks in i-tunes

ages ago when i 1st got an i-pod someone told me how to selectively cut unwanted parts (ie 20 mins of silence) out of tracks in i-tunes..... for example so that when i have "something in the way" from "nevermind" in my i-tunes instead of the track being over 20 mins long, it is only the 3mins 48secs of the actual song.
can anyone remind me as to how this is done. many thanks

glad you got it working marti.

how do I save a portion of a song to my Itunes library?

First put the whole song into the library.  Right-click it, Get Info, go to the Options tab and set the Start and Stop times to include just the portion you want.  OK out.  Now right-click again and choose Create XXX version (where XXX is your preferred format).  This will cause iTunes to create a new file with just the desired portion.
When you are done, you can either keep or delete the original (full-length) file.

  • How do i print a portion of an email

how do i print a portion of an email

Strictly speaking it is USUALLY NOT "all or nothing"...
It is *USUALLY possible to select, copy, and paste some or all of an email to the Mac 'clipboard', and then open TextEdit.app (or Pages.app) and paste the contents of the clipboard into a new blank document. THEN you can attempt to edit the document and save your changes, and finally print it from TextEdit.app
    PROVIDED THAT
    you have BOATLOADS of patience
    AND BOATLOADS of persistence
AND plenty of SPARE TIME to "fuss with the controls" to achieve your desired result while you attempt to edit a copy of the email in Text Edit.app or a similar app.
BUT… If you're interested in SPEED and PRODUCTIVE USE OF YOUR TIME, it's usually easier to waste some paper and print the whole thing, or simply Forward the entire email.
*USUALLY because some portions of some emails are loaded as images. Then the text cannot be selected, copied, and printed, except as the entire image.
If you are interested in more specifics, respond here and I'll be happy to provide some step-by-step detail.
