How to separate/split different drum tracks from one recorded track

Hi,
Pretty hard to explain my intentions in the title, but i've recorded drums with one mic (so there's only one track), and i was wondering whether or not it's possible to separate the hi-hat, snare, toms, etc. from each other? So basically i want to create separate tracks for each of these sounds. I know it's a tricky and pretty specific question, but this would really come in handy since you can replace the drum sounds.
The biggest problem, if this were possible, is to separate tones that are recorded at the same time.
And yes, i tried the manual, but i couldn't figure this one out.
Thank you very much

You are right: This is impossible.
The next best thing is to use Flex Time to find the attack transients and then split the audio at those transients, so you can move the individual snippets to different tracks.

  • Making two mono tracks from one stereo track?

I've used the M-Audio MobilePre USB device to record  vocal and guitar at the same time. In GarageBand, this inputs as one track, with guitar on the left channel and vocal on the right.
I'd like to separate this one stereo track into two mono tracks for further mixing and editing.
Any ideas on how to do this?
    Thanks!

  • How do you manage different target platforms from one FLA?

I am in the throes of trying to publish an app for both iOS and Android mobile devices and am having trouble finding some guides related to how to most easily target these two platforms without duplicating code or FLA files.
So far, I have one single code base that checks CONFIG::DEVICE constant to know what platform dependant classes it should or shouldn't use, but as for the FLA, I have two copies of this same FLA with different publishing settings (one set for iOS and one set for Android, and each with the appropriate difference set in the config constant). Needless to say, managing two FLAs with nearly identical content is a pain in the butt.
How am I supposed to do it (using Flash Professional CS6)? I was considering using "Profiles" (upper left corner of Publish Settings panel) but in the past whenever I've relied on Profiles it has been unrealiable. For example, the SWF file name doesn't change, making it a pain to try and make a seperate SWF for iOS and one for Android. If I just change the target platform in the pulldown mennu for that, will it remember the old settings when I come back to a previous selection? (ie: AIR 3.6 for ios, vs AIR 3.6 for Android, etc)
Suggestions?  I couldn't find anything by Googling.

Sure but why doesn't Adobe, who has been pitching Flash & Adobe AIR as "author once, publish to multiple targets" fix this very simple problem?
I experimented some more and I managed to set up one FLA with two profiles. One is configured for iOS and the other is configured for Android. It WORKS fine except the iOS settings loses all the icons except for the 3 it has in common with the Android side. Conversely, the Android side loses extra Manifest parameters I need for Admob extension integration. It's quite frustrating that this works up to 95% and then loses it. All they really need to do is tie separate app.xml files to seperate publishing profiles.
One way around this would be if I set each profile to publish to a different swf file. AH, but guess what, that is the ONE setting that a profile does NOT save!!!!!!
    Thanks for your tip though.

  • Making multiple tracks from one big track

I've got a CD that has 7 songs on it, but only shows as 1 long track (54:06) when I try to import it. I'd like to edit it so it imports/plays as 7 songs and not 1. I've figured out how to mark/edit the first song, but that's all. How can I reimport the original song so that I can do the other 6 tracks? I've looked at a lot similiar postings, but there were no answers. Apparently this is a problem a lot of people are having. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

As i mentioned earlier, by selecting to convert the original song it is just making a copy of the song, and you do not have to have the CD to do so. Just select the song you want to duplicate and then select convert to...(whatever file format you want).
    Hope this helps

  • How can i move a podcast track from one podcast to another?

I subscribe to a number of podcasts and  recenly some of them have started downloading to new podcast folders (One of them underwent a slight name change, and the others I'm not sure why). So now, some of my podcasts have two folders: one with the old podcasts and one where the new podcast download to. I want to keep all the tracks, because I reference them from time to time, but I hate having these extra folders. Is there some way to move podcast tracks from one podcast to another so I can consolidate these tracks?

    Use export/import.

Don't agree. I have two accounts, one for work which I set up years ago and bought a few tracks. I've recently bought iPhone and iPad and created a home ID and wanted to transfer the old purchaces. Everyone says it can't be done, but I've done it.
    1. on the iPhone/iPad change your "store" Apple ID to the one you want ot transfer from.
    2. go into iTune on the device and download the purchaces.
    3. on you PC/Mac change the iTunes login to the same as the device's ID
    4. sync your device
    5. change both ID's back and the purchaces stay on both iTunes and your device.
    Delmar,
The procedure you describe is putting content from two different IDs into a single library, which can readily be done.
However, each item of purchased content will still be tied to the ID from which it was originally purchased, and they will be treated separately for purposes of Cloud, Match, Purchase History, etc.

    Hi Flávia,
Adobe PDF Pack is an online subscription--it definitely allows you to combine several files into one PDF file. For more information about PDF Pack, see Reliably Create PDFs, Convert PDFs, & Merge PDFs Online | Adobe PDF Pack. If you don't have the full version of Acrobat, this is a great solution for combining PDF files.
However, if you're using Acrobat (not Adobe Reader), you combine files by following these steps:
Open a PDF file that you want to add pages to.
Click the Pages pane on the Tools panel (on the right side of the application).
Click Insert From File, and choose the file that you want to combine with the PDF that you opened in step 1.
Make any changes necessary in the Insert Pages dialog box--these settings determine where the new file will be inserted.
    Click OK.
Please let me know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

how do i transfer my itunesw playlist from one computer to another

Jolly Giant hasn't posted in around a year...
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • How do I get text to flow from one page to the next in Pages 5?

How do I get text to flow from one page to the next in Pages 5 with the Maverick system?

What may be overlooked in Pages v5 is the notion of combining Text Boxes via the Menu > View > Show Arrange Tools. When you select two Text Boxes, an extra panel unfolds at the bottom of the Arrange Tools window. Uncheck one Text Box and this panel abruptly disappears.
One can achieve text flow effects between Text Boxes differently based on how one positions the Text Box overlap, and choice of effect above. Though not the accustomed flow found in Pages ’09 v4.3, flow does occur. Consider the possibilities of combining a Shape and a Text box to cut an irregular Text box.
If I create two Text Boxes and position them side by side with outline touching and choose Unite, this creates one larger Text Box and text flows across and down. On the otherhand, if I overlap the upper left corner of a lower Text Box over one above and to the left, then choose Union, pasted text fills the first Text Box and then flows across and down into the other box. Here is a Union example:
Intersect will leave a small Text Box where the two overlap, so not much value there. Subtract will cut a chunk out of one Text Box that is the size of the overlapping piece of the second Text Box:
And Intersect will leave an island in the center where the two Text Box overlap, with flow jumping over this bridge.
Clearly, this is not what we were accustomed to in the past, but with imagination, style, and layout tuning, it does offer alternative Text Box creativity and layout. Of course, there is the option of simply returning to the previous Pages version for true Text Box linking that most will want to use.

How can I move someone's hair from one photo to another and place it on another person? I have gone through every instructional video you have and have not been able to master this

Open picture B, the one you wish to select the hair from to add to the picture.
Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the hair. You will see an outline ("marching ants") once the selection is complete
Go to Edit menu>copy to copy the hair to the clipboard
Open picture A, then go to Edit>paste
Use the move tool to position the hair from picture B.
In the layers palette you should see picture A as the background layer, and the hair (B) on a separate layer.

  • How can I move my iPhoto Library from one Mac to another without losing the comments on the individual photos in the process?

How can I move my iPhoto Library from one Mac to another without losing the comments on the individual photos in the process? The source Macbook (OS 10.4.11 and iPhoto 6.0.6 (3.2.2.)) is with my husband in Germany, the target MacBook Pro (OS 10.8.5, iPhoto 11) is with me in Japan. Thanks for your help.

I copied the iPhoto Library to a CD and from there to the new MacBook
If you copied the library to the CD via the Finder it would be no different than the methods Terence suggested.  If you used the Share ➙ Burn menu option from inside iDVD you'll get a mini library that has to be accessed from the open library and the events/alubums copied into the destination library.  Not the same as the other methods.
The Share ➙ Burn method is no longer supported with iPhoto 9 and later.
