How to set a print area in Numbers

This one should be easy: set print range for the cells that require to be printed. There does not to be a way to do it, or is it so obvious that I missed it?

Okay, I've been following this conversation, can't keep my mouth shut.
For what it's worth, I spend about 90% of my work day in excel and while I'm no power user by any means, I'm reasonably competent in it. I think in spreadsheets. It's a curse. I've used every spreadsheet there is that will run on a Mac, and none has even come close to excel's usefulness. Yes, that includes all the third-party attempts that claim to be business-ready. They're just not, and neither is Numbers.
Crazierthanu, I think excel can at least manage all of the issues you listed. For global settings you can select all the tabs you want to change and any change you make on one will be made on all of the selected tabs. So if you set Portrait and Fit to Page in page setup, all the tabs will print in Portrait and the data fitted to a single sheet. The downside to this is when there are different "sizes" of data on the various tabs; that can result in varying font sizes, another problem. Again in excel (I choose not to capitalize microsoft product names, call it a personal quirk born of extreme disgust with the company), in print view one can, with a few keyboard shortcuts, select the area to be printed and set print area from the context menu. It's very straightforward. And you can select any part of the data to print, eschewing all else. This is how you'd print non-rectangular areas. You can use this function to print discontinuous areas also, though they'll print on separate pages. To print multiple tabs at one time, select each tab you wish to print while holding down Ctnl or Shift.
Anyway. I sure don't want to sound like an excel supporter because I've put myself through a lot of suffering to avoid having to buy it. And I still haven't. I'll go a long way to keep M$ from getting any of my money. But excel is a good spreadsheet, the best there is so far. Printing should be simple. Maybe M$ patented excel's printing paradigm and no one else can use any of it. That would be par.
Many of these items are possible in Numbers. What's so frustrating is the screwy slider that makes you print the whole sheet and everything on it. I don't want to print everything on a sheet, and I want to easily select paper orientation (I think someone mentioned how to do that and I'd bet it would work globally by selecting multiple sheets in the left column).
I too think Nick hit it on the head when he said that you have to compromise sheet layout to fit within Numbers' print paradigm. That's just ridiculous. The application needs to bend to my will just a bit more than that.
Because I've invested a great deal of hope and what to me is not an insignificant amount of money, I'll learn to use Numbers. But Apple sure missed the boat with this one if they hoped to get excel users to switch. Unless they have a serious personal vendetta against microsoft, pretty much any spreadsheet user in the world will scoff at this first generation attempt and continue using excel. You can sure make "pretty" spreadsheets with Numbers, but it's awful hard to get any work out of it.
I've printed the Numbers manual and maybe I'll learn what I need to know from reading it. Heaven knows I've read enough excel books! Maybe that's what the first version of Numbers needs - someone to figure out how to use it and write a book for the rest of us. Hey, maybe that can be my retirement fund!

How do I set the print area in Numbers?

    Hi Macuser4ever,
Numbers does not have the 'Set Print Area' feature. Numbers is designed around several tables, each with a purpose. For example, Input Table, Big Database, Intermediate Calculations Table (all of which you may not need to print) and a final Summary (Presentation) Table that you may wish to print. The Summary Table can be on its own Sheet. Arrange objects (Summary Table, Charts [graphs] and whatever) on one Sheet and print only that Sheet.

  • How to Set up Print As Image Registry Default.

This is a response to the archived post at:
martin hrubes, "How to customize printing by registry - print as image" #, 6 Nov 2007 2:28 am
I was trying to find out how to set the "Print As Image" advanced setting to be enabled by default. Here is what I discovered through trial and error.
    1. The setting is stored per user and per printer. (i.e. it has to be set for each printer for each user.)
    2. The registry setting is stored in the following key:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\General\cPrintAsImage]
    3. In this key, each printer has a separate binary value named s0, s1, s2, etc. The number increments by 1 for each printer added. If you open the value data, you will see it contains the name of the printer encoded in hex. (ex. hex coded for \\Server\Printer1)
My recomendation is to open a pdf file in reader, go to File -> Print ->Select Desired Printer -> Click "Advanced" Options -> Enable "Print As Image" -> Click OK - Click OK again. Repeat for each printer you want to
    change.
**NOTE** If you don't click OK both times (i.e. cancel the print dialog), the change will not be saved. You have to actually print something to the printer. If you don't want to print something, make sure the printer is offline or not accessible (unplug the network, usb, parallel, serial cable) first. Once the printer has been changed, it will keep the setting until to you change it.
After you have set-up all of the desired printers, open RegEdit and navigate to the above key. Right click on it, and export it. Note the file name and location you are saving to. Close RegEdit. "Edit" (Right Click) the file just exported ("Opening" the file will just import it back into the registry.). Once opened, highlight and copy the registry key and all of the registry values. Paste the key and values at the end of the file. In one of the keys change "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\" to "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\". Save and exit the file.
When imported this file will enable the "Print As Image" setting for the currently logged in user plus add the setting to the default users profile so any new users to the machine will have it enabled by default also. However, it will not add it to any other user profiles that already exist on the computer. To do this, either use a login script for domain computers or add the reg file to the "All Users Startup" folder.
It would be nice to have a setting in the deployment custimazation wizard to handle this, but for now we're stuck with enabling it the hard way.

Yes Spyla, please see this link http://www.404techsupport.com/2008/09/09/make-adobe-reader-and-adobe-acrobat-use-print-as- image-setting-by-default-2/comment-page-1/#comment-3112.
Allan, many thanks for your post, it certainly helped point me in the right direction.  what I found though is that you do not need to tick the print as image box at any point during the setting up of this.  All you need to do is add the registry key for whichever version of Adobe you are using for this to work.  So basically. what you are saying for each instance of Adobe is regardless of whether or not the print as image is selected, the registry key is saying always print as image for the printer as specified by the hex code. I have found that for network printers, you have to include the full path i.e. \\<servername>\<printername> e.g \\testserver\printer1 and convert all of that to hex. With later versions (9 up over), they have allowed for the string name of the printer so that it is just plain text which also makes life easier.
What I do is apply this registry entry via Group Policy on a per room basis so that we only ever need to add one printer to the list.  you could do this globally by adding all printers sequentially using s0, s1, s2 or t0, t1, t2 etc depending on which version you are using.  The screenshot shows the registry key for 1 printer for Adobe Reader 8.
The value data is the binary code for the actual full printer name
    This works a treat.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

How to set wireless printer at ad Hoc mode in CP1025nw with auto-off is off?? ie  never auto-off!!
Thank you very much for your help if any!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Quite a few questions there, Sends, but I will do what I can to answer them.
I would first recommend buying a router, even if it is one that you won't connect to the internet and network this with your other PCs and the printer. This will give you the best functionality and results for what you are attempting to do.
Additionally, the Auto Off feature of the printer can be disabled, and is not affected by the connection type. You can usually go through the Setup Menu and select Tools to change the options there on the energy saving features.
Lastly, the auto off feature on your computer is a Windows question, but an easy one to answer. If you are on a laptop you can right-click on the battery in the service tray (bottom right hand corner) and change the energy conservation settings.
You might be better off installing the printer through the USB cord and alternating that based on when you are using it, but that would be optimal only if you are printing only a few documents on an irregular basis. A networked connection is the easiest to manage over several computers, honesty, but you do have some requirements for that connection and limitations as well.
I hope this information is useful!

  • How to set up printing from my mac to a windows shared printer.

I'm trying to print to an HP PSC 1610 All in One printer. Everything is good in the set up while adding a new printer on the mac. The windows workgroup shows up as does the printer. My problem is that the particular model does not show up in the drop down list of HP printers. How can I add it to that list, or basically, how can I get it to work?
    Thanks for your help.

So here's how you might be able to do this.  I am not 100% if it will work or not, but in theory it sounds promising.  HP has printers which support AirPlay and another feature they call ePrint.  AirPlay is Apple's standard for allowing you to print from the iPad to an AirPlay-compatible printer.  But it requires that both the iPad and printer are on the same WiFi network.  You can use the tethering feature of the iPad (it costs extra from AT&T or Verizon so check into that) to create a WiFi hotspot.  I assume this would allow you to connect the printer to the hotspot and then use AirPlay to print to it, although I am not certain if the printer is able to connect to a hotspot via the tethering feature.  Or you can use the ePrint feature of the printer in which you "email" your document to the printer and it prints it.  Again, it would require that the printer be connected (tethered) to a WiFi hotspot first.  You'd also need a way to plug the printer into your truck - I know some newer vehicles actually provide a standard 110V recipticle vs. the cigarette lighter style.

You don't mention what SDK you're using.
If you're running a Nokia SDK, for instance, you need to explicitly set the proxy URI somewhere else. Try running your MIDlet with Default Color Phone and see if it works.
Unfortunately, proxies do not use exactly the same HTTP request method as normal Web clients (i.e., browsers). Most caches are smart enough to try to be transparent, however. It might be worthwhile to ensure that your proxy is set up as a transparent one.
Worst case scenario, you can always host the files on a server inside your LAN, so it doesn't have to breach the proxy (or, indeed, on a little Web server running on the same machine as the emulator).

  • How to set up Print Specs and Profiles in CS5 Suite

I am no color management expert but I do want to get my printer to print the same colors as my monitor displays in PSD, AI and InD applications.
My Intel iMac and Cinema Display running OS10.5.8 are both color calibrated with Spyder 3 Elite to achieve correct color reproduction.
After days of searching and testing, this is my solution which I offer to help those new to CS5.
    1. Start: PHOTOSHOP:
Set colour settings (Edit>Color Settings) as follows:
              RGB - Adobe RGB 1998
CMYK - US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 (This setting does not effect printer).
Leave Grey and Spot as default 20%
         Color Management Policys:
RGB, CMYK, Gray; all set to Preserve embedded Profiles
         Conversions Options:
              Engine - Adobe ACE
Intent - Relative colourimetric ( my choice for AI artwork. Choose Perceptual for photos in PSD).
Go to Save, give profile a name, and note the Conversion intent so you can create another profile for Perceptual and PSD.
(I called mine Epson R2400 and noted the Relative Colorimetric intent).
Finally, Go to Settings at the top of the Color Settings dialogue and select the color profile you have just named and saved. Click OK
    2. Go to Bridge>Edit>Creative Suite Color Settings. Find your saved profile and select it and click Apply.
Now AI and ID have the same colour preferences.
Users without Bridge will have to set these items in Color Settings for each Adobe application.
    3.   Photoshop>File>Print: Color Management
Color Handling - Photoshop Manages Color
Printer Profile - Choose the ICC Profile to suite your printer and paper stock. I used Epson canned ICC SPR2400 Premium Glossy with great results.
Rendering Intent - Relative Colorimetric for artwork or Perceptual for photos.
    4.  At top of Print dialogue box, select Printer (Epson Stylus Photo 2400 in my case).
         Below, Click and open Print Settings;
Layout - select  Paper Size and number of pages (copies). Layout is one of several items in a drop down menu.
Open the next drop down item, Color Matching. Check that he two options, Color Sync and Epson should be grayed out.
         Move to Print Settings.
Media Type - depends on your paper. (mine is Photo Quality InkJet).
Color - select Color or Black
Color Settings - OFF, This turns off color management in Epson Driver leaving Photoshop in charge!
Mode - I chose Advanced to get fine quality print. Automatic OK for general use.
Click Save. Click Print and you should get a print matching your Monitor.
    ILLUSTRATOR CS5
Bridge will ensure that Color Settings match Photoshop as 1. above. If you don’t have Bridge Go to Edit>Color Settings and specify the same as      Photoshop. Note Settings, at top of Color settings dialogue box requires the profile you created in Photoshop.
Go to File >Print. There are 3 steps to check.
In the  window at left are headings General, Marks and Bleed, Output, Graphics, Color Management, Advanced and Summary.
These are self explanatory. If you do not use Bridge, check Color Management as below:
    1. Printer: your printer. Color Handling: Let Illustrator determine colors. Printer Profile: select your monitor RGB icc profile.
Unlike Photoshop, do NOT use printer/paper ICC. Rendering intent: to suit your image.
    2. Bottom left of Print dialogue box is Page Setup. Set your size etc.
    3. Bottom Left is Printer. MOST IMPORTANT. Here are the similar setting options as PSD 4 above which require different handling.
Select Layout, go down to Color Matching>select COLORSYNC not Epson. This ensures Apple ColorSync does color conversion.
Profile - Automatic should appear with name of your preferred Printer/paper ICC below. ( be careful here as I have found AI sometimes finds the wrong      paper icc. Close Print and start again).
Move down list to Print Settings - Basic:
Page Set up - Standard; Media type - Your choice, (Photo Quality InkJet for me).
              Color - Color
Color Settings OFF to ensure Epson printer driver does not try to manage color.
Mode - Advanced if you want fine quality print. Automatic is OK for general use.
    4. Click Print to close Printer dialogue box. Click Print to close the Print dialogue box and you should get a print to match your on screen image.
    INDESIGN and General Comments.
Always select your Printer first as settings vary according to printer type.
InDesign Print set up is very similar to AI. Select Color Management at left and the Printer, Printer Profile and Rendering Intent require identical settings.
Go to bottom left, Page Setup. Specify Printer and paper size. Select Printer and the settings required are the same as AI.
If you switch between these apps there is considerable danger that the different Profile choices will trip you up. Photoshop color management requires the Printer/paper ICC, AI and InDesign require Monitor ICC. My primary error was to select my professionally scanned printer/paper ICC profile which resulted in weird colours on AI and ID. The clue that led me to choose my Monitor ICC profile instead was the ColorSync option in Color matching in AI. I hope you will find printing runs a lot smoother for you and I heartily invite better informed users than I, can add to, or qualify this post.
May the Force be with you!

Regarding print brightness at output. The Settings of monitor calibration determine white point and black point. At the time you run Spyder 3 or whatever your monitor calibrator is, the software sets a white point of your choosing. current iMacs are far too bright and prints resulting from unmodified Mac monitors will appear too dark because of the excessive screen brightness. My iMac at lowest reading is 139 candelas. To get prints which match the screen I specify 80 candelas. The Spyder software also reads ambient light in the room and makes a calculation which effects the white and black points registered for both viewing and printing. Since paper reflects a light level according to lighting conditions, we each view prints in different conditions according to illumination source. This effects also effects screen viewing so conditions determine what we see.
In simple terms, ambient light reading also modifies the software calculations for colour output. If it is too high, prints are pale, too low and prints are too dark. If the Monitor calibration has been done properly there should be no problem. The point here is to make certain your calibration process is accurate. Personally I have calibrated in a dark room at night-time and I have calibrated In a shaded room at midday. Hugely different conditions. Under both circumstances I have found the calibration has resulted in good prints. So I suspect it is user white point settings or calibration error which results in prints being too dark or too light. I understand the data used by the calibration software applies to the ambient light reading to the monitor for reading conditions and uses other color gamut data for the printing process. So printing error must surely originate with the user.
I welcome comment from more experienced people in this matter.
    Cheers,

  • How to set default printing in black only

    Greetings,
I'd like to set my default printing with Firefox at black ink only, which I can do individually prior to printing a page, but it reverts to color after that printing. But if I set the size at, say, 80%, that becomes the default setting, or if I set portrait/landscape for a single printing, that becomes the default setting. Why can't the desired black-ink only setting default like the size/portrait/landscape setting? What I want to do is set the printing permanently at black only, and the size at 100%, but allow one-time printing at landscape or portrait, or sizes less than 100% without those settings becoming the default. How can I do this? Thanks for any help
    Best wishes, Tom
I've tried the help solutions on the website to no avail....

    Greeting ideato,
Thanks so much for your reply. I've clicked on the Firefox button at upper left, then Print, then Properties, then Advanced, under which is listed Printer Features (I have only 1 printer), below which is a line with Print in Grayscale, clicking on which has has 3 options: Off (apparently default), High quality Grayscale, and Black Ink Only. I click on the latter, and click on OK for this window and others in the sequence, and it'll print in black only for the present printing, but will revert to color for the next printing, 'though like I said, if I change the size to 80% or from portrait to landscape, those settings will remain. I can't figure it out. Again, thanks for any help.
