  • How to Set Up AirPort Extreme 802.11n only Network

    I purchased a used AirPort Extreme base station and a used AirPort Express off eBay to upgrade my home network. Both are the latest model AE (dual band II, firmware 7.5.1) and AX (802.11n, firmware 7.4.2). I want to use my AE as main router (Internet connection, DHCP) and use my AX to wirelessly extend network to my family room, where I have my Xbox accepting only wired network. And I want AE and AX to communicate through 802.11n to maximize bandwidth. Sounds easy right?
    Well, I've got this set up mostly working except the 802.11n part. Not matter what I do, It seems only operating in g mode. I made my AE creating a 5Ghz network but I couldn't find this network anywhere. Not on my iPad, not on my iMac.
    I'm wondering if I have a defective AE. The seller on eBay told me he used the 11n network just fine. The router is still under warranty, I'm wondering if I should ask Apple for a repair? But since I'm pretty new to Mac in general, I figure there might be something I just missed and hence this post. Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Some screenshots of my configuration: http://picasaweb.google.com/xianxu/IPad

    I do have an AX that extends the AE network. There is nowhere on AX that I can specify radio mode, once I specified it to extend a network. I assume AX talks to AE over the n network and then extends the network to be g compatible? Sounds really strange.
    Maybe not too strange. Since the AX is a single-band device, it can only extend the AEBSn's 2.4 or 5 GH radio, at a time, not both simultaneously. Since your iPhone was able to connect, most likely, it was extending the 2.4 GHz radio ... which was also configured to support "g" devices. What I haven't figured out is how, if you set the AEBSn's Radio Mode to "n only" why non-"n" are still able to connect when the network is extended.
    ... I chose to create a different network name for 5Ghz radio as something like: MID-EARTH (5 GHz). However I can't seem to find this network anywhere. I'm wondering why this is the case? Is my AE somewhat defective?
    This may be a completely different issue than the extended network one. If you remove the AX from the network equation, wireless clients should see two different Network Names or SSIDs ... one being "MID-EARTH (5 GHz)" and whatever you called the 2.4 GHz network. That is, assuming that the client is capable of accessing both bands. If this is not the case, we would need to revisit your AEBSn's configuration settings.

  • How to set up port forwarding on extreme with NAS

    I've purchased a NAS (Synology DS211j with 2 caviar HD) over a month ago. Setting up the NAS for wireless connection locally was easy. I've been trying for 3 weeks on how to set-up port forwarding on my airport extreme base. I''ve researched and read countless threads on port forwarding and still cannot grasp the concept and the step by step provided.  I need somebody that's patient enough to hand hold and guide me through this frustrating problem.
    Equipment:
    Comcast cable modem connected into Airport Extreme Base
    Synology DS211j connected to Airport Extreme Base
    Problem:
    Cannot connect to my DiskStation via internet from wherever
    confused whether to use FTP or Personal file sharing or whatever is the most suitable for my needs
    Just need to access files on my DiskStation view/upload/download from wherever I'm at, whether on PC or Macbook Pro
    Thanks in advance!

    Here are the basic steps to configure your NAS for port mapping:
    AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
    To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
    AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > DHCP tab
    On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
    Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
    Reserve address by: MAC Address
    Click Continue.
    MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
    IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
    Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
    AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup >Advanced > Port Mapping tab
    Click the "+" (Add) button
    Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
    Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
    Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
    Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
    Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
    Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
    Click "Continue"
    (ref: "Well Known" TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products)

  • Audio set up - AirPort Express 802.11n

    hi,
    i have an 802.11n airport express and want to use it for itunes wireless music playback from my imac (os 10.6.8) over to my non-wifi audio amp.
    i want to wirelessly connect my imac to my airport and then hard wire from the airport over to the audio amp.
    i want to use a audio cable that is on one end a mini jack and on the other end a left / right rca combo.
    how do i set up the airport so that music from my imac will "connect" to the airport and then have the airport playback through my amp?
    also, how do i reset the airport to factory?
    hope i was clear and thank you in advance.
    wayne

    I returned the AEn yesterday. The technician confirmed that it was defective. I got a new one, and just tonight I was brave enough to give it another go. Success! But, now I'm having problems setting up my printer. I have a (really!) old printer: Epson Stylus Color 740. When I open it on my Airport Utility, it recognizes it, but when I go try to print, I get a message saying that there is some communication problems. My printer works when I hook it to my computer. Any advice?

  • How to set up port mapping in airport extreme?

    I just buy a Ip cam (d link) which need to set up port forwarding for outside access.
    What can I do?  My ISP is netvigator.
    How to set up and input which address to the airport utility?
    Please help.
    Thanks!

    Mmm, generally you don't need to do much port mapping in an extreme. Not sure I understand you.  What does the d-link do?

  • Why no air port express 802.11ac

    when will air port express get 802.11ac

    No one on a user-to-user forum will be able to tell you what a notoriously secretive company like Apple might do, or when they might do it.
    If Apple announces a new product, we will all know at that time.

  • IMAC G5  ethernet port for 802.11n

    Does anyone know if you could get the 1GB ethernet port to work with a new 802.11n Airport Extreme unit ? 540MBS sounds pretty interesting.

    You have posted a question about your G5 Mac in the G4 iMac forum, so it might be getting overlooked.
    You can wire your iMac into the newe AEBS, but the Draft N networking that you are talking about is not available for your Mac. The only Macs that have support for the Draft N standard are the currently shipping Intel units. Even my first gen BlackBook will not support Draft N.
    The ethernet ports on the new AEBS are not gigabit ports either, so while your iMac can connect it will be limited to the 100mbps of standard fast ethernet.
    Unless Apple comes out with an adapter for us, we will be left out.

  • How can use my Airport Express 802.11n with IOS X 10.9.4?

    I have two Airport Express unit (802.11n) used to connect my upstairs and downstairs HiFi amps to my music collection (On a Mac mini and on my MacBook).  I keep my software up to date and my Airport Express units have now lost connectivity with my updated computers.  They do not even appear in UTILITIES/AIRPORT UTILITY - so I cannot reconfigure.  I have tried pressing the reset button and have tried "Googling" it but have had no success.  Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

    Both say A1254 (I think)
    A1254 is not a model number for an AirPort Express, but if you meant to say A1264, that is an 802.11n model that is compatible with AirPort Utility on an iOS device and also the Mac running Mavericks (10.9.4).
    If you have pressed the reset button as you say above (held it in for 5-6 seconds or more), then the AirPort Express devices are reset back to factory default settings.
    When you open AirPort Utility on the Mac and click on Other Wi-Fi Devices, you should see the AirPort Express. Click on AirPort Express to start the setup process and follow the prompts.

  • How to set up remote access on wvc80n without using TZO

    Just purchased the WVC80N, but how do you set it up for remote access without using TZO?  I can not get TZO to work w/ my Uverse 2wire 3800-hgv-b router.  Please help as the uverse customer support has not been helpful with port forwarding either.

    Hi, I'm a newbie at this, so pls be patient with my terminology...  I want to install 2 or 3 of these cameras in my mother's home, and I will have AT&T DSL service (one dynamic IP address) there with only a modem/wireless router.  I want to access the cameras from my laptop or from my Blackberry Tour when I am traveling.  Also want to allow access for my other relatives.  I do not have another home computer to serve as a WHS, and my laptop is obviously not connected to the internet all of the time.  Can I use the DDNS setup with DynDNS to provide access?  The instructions that I read seemed to imply that I needed a WHS in order to forward ports, etc.  Thanks in advance for your help.. • How to set up multiple accounts on Itunes without everyone getting info

    h Can someone help me set up account through one Itunes without each device getting all songs and data?

    Easiest way I've found is this:
    1. Set up an iCloud account for each person
    -> Go to Settings > iCloud and create a new Apple ID for the person using that device
    2. Once that iCloud account has been created, sign into iCloud, iMessage & FaceTime using the same ID on each other device used by the same person
    3. Set up a 'Master' Apple ID that you are going to use as a Shared ID for iTunes Store purchases
    -> Use iTunes on a PC/Mac or create a new Apple ID in Settings > iTunes & App Stores
    4. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores on every device you want to share purchases and sign them all in to this 'Master' Apple ID but turn off the Automatic Downloads settings
    Doing this will allow you to share iTunes Store purchases of Apps & Music without sharing iCloud data (contacts, calendars, etc), iMessages & FaceTime calls.
    If you are meaning iTunes on a computer within a single user account, it's all in the Sync Settings of each device. I have mine, my wife's and my daughter's iPhones & iPads all syncing within a single PC user account by doing the following:
    Set up a Playlist for the music and a folder (PC) or iPhoto album (Mac) for pictures unique to each device or person
    Connect a device
    Set it to only sync that playlist and not to automatically add new downloads or fill free space with songs
    Set up which apps you want on each device (again, untick the option to automatically add new apps)
    Select the folder/album to sync pictures
    Apply Changes
    Repeat step 2 for each device

  • How to set the ports on wrt150n for my xbox360

    help me!!!!!!!  I need evry step

    I just contacted Linksys/Cisco about this problem of the WRT150N not connecting properly with the Xbox 360 Live.
    The support person online said this model does suport it.
    I do not know if this person was right or not but here was the advice they gave online:
    1. Assign static IP, subnet mask, gateway and DNS on the Xbox 360.
    a) Go to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard.
    b) Select Network Settings.
    c) Select Edit Settings to adjust your:
    IP Settings (IP Address = 192.168.1.20, Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway = 192.168.1.1)
    DNS Settings (Primary = 4.2.2.1, Secondary = 4.2.2.2)
    2. Port forwarding
    88 (udp)
    3074 (tcp & udp)
    a) Access the router's web-based setup page and click on Applications and Gaming tab.
    b) Under Port Range Forwarding sub tab, we will enter two entries for us to forward the two ports.
    First Entry
    Name = Xbox360a
    Start = 88
    End = 88
    Protocol = UDP
    IP Address = 192.168.1.20
    Enabled = Checked
    Second Entry
    Name = Xbox360b
    Start = 3074
    End = 3074
    Protocol = Both
    IP Address = 192.168.1.20
    Enabled = Checked
    c) Save the settings.
    3. Still on the router's web-based setup page, click on Setup tab.
    a) Set MTU from Auto to Manual.
    b) Change the MTU size from 1500 (default) to 1365.
    c) Scroll down and save the settings.
    4. Power cycle. Unplug the power adapter of the router for 10 seconds and plug it back again.
    5. On your Xbox 360:
    a) Go back to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard.
    b) Select Network Settings.
    c) Select Test Xbox Live Connection.
    d) After the system has completed its tests, select More Info to learn more about your network, paying close attention to any test that failed.
    I checked more with Linksys and here is a Web page related to this, but note that this is for Xbox and not Xbox360. What is interesting to note is this from the PDF: " Before proceeding, please take note that Linksys does NOT support the configuration of Xbox™. The following instructions simply tell you how to configure the router for the Xbox™, not the game console itself. For technical support on the Xbox™, contact Microsoft."
    I think this may support my case that Linksys and Xbox are not good friends.

    P.S. - It is my guess that Linksys/Cisco is wrong here; that they have not recognized the problem or are not willing at this time time to acknowledge it. What do you think?

  • How to set up port configurations under Tomcat

    Hi Friends,
    I want to run 3 different jsp/servlets applications on a single Tomcat instance installed on my system.I want all of them to listen to different ports say for eg. 3000,3005 and 3010.So can someone pls tell me what changes I need to make in the Tomcat's server.xml.
    Thanks

    I THINK you can to do this by defining multiple <connector> properties.
    I THINK it is possible to have multiple <connector>'s as long as they are all on different ports.
    Post back if you are able to do this, I would be interested to see if it can be done.

  • How to set VPN server with static IP without DHCP on

    I set up a new Mac mini server with OS X 10.9.1 and Server App 3.0.1
    My ISP gave me a static bublic IP address.
    I have on:
    - web server
    - mail server
    - DNS server
    without using DHCP, but now i want to set up L2TP/IPSec VPN server and it requires that i give start IP address of the VPN server.
    Can i use VPN server w/out DHCP server on?
    If yes, how?
    If not, when i turn on the DHCP server, what i have to do with web, mail servers?

    To run a public VPN server, you need to do the following:
    1. Give the gateway either a static external address or a dynamic DNS name. The latter must be a DNS record on a public DNS registrar, not on the server itself. Also in the latter case, you must run a background process to keep the DNS record up to date when your IP address changes.
    2. Give the VPN server a static address on the local network, and a hostname that is not in the top-level domain "local" (which is reserved for Bonjour.)
    3. Forward external UDP ports 500, 1701, and 4500 (for L2TP) and TCP port 1723 (for PPTP) to the corresponding ports on the VPN server.
    If your router is an Apple device, select the Network tab in AirPort Utility and click Network Options. In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
    Allow incoming IPSec authentication
    if it's not already checked, and save the change.
    With a third-party router, there may be a similar setting.
    4. Configure any firewall in use to pass this traffic.
