How to set audio instruments to record in left and right channels

I am a new Logic express user. I am using a PreSonus FireWire to in put guitars and mic's. If I use Logic Express to record my guitars from input 1 I only get sound out of the right channel. If I use input 2 I only get sound out of the left channel. If I use the Garage Band tab to input the same instruments plugged into either channels 1 or 2 on my PreSonus I get sound from both the left and right channels together. There must be a simple fix I am missing in Logic. If anyone can help me I would I would appreciate it.

Hi t,
welcome to the forum!
There's nothing wrong with your set-up!
MONO inputs to mono tracks,
from the mono track you can add mono to stereo plug-ins and benefit from that.
In garage band you have a mono input that showing a stereo channel, that's what what I have explain above. In Logic it's a blody waste of HD space (not to say wrong) as you recording a mono file to stereo.
Think bigger and pratical now T, those things make all the sence,
GB is so easy that can confuse us about the real thing because it's hidden from your eyes.
Kindly regards,
Jorge

  • How do I apply effects equally to the left and right channels.

I am an intermittent user of Sound Track Pro. I've made some cool audio beds with it in the past but right now I'm having two problems since I have not used it in so long and never was pro with it to begin with.
    1. Seems like the lift and stamp tool only works in multi-track mode and not in the wave editor.
    2. so I put my file in the wave editor to redo the effects from scratch there but now I don't know how to apply them equally to the left and right channels.

Thank you! One more question: I've got quite a bit of interview tape and would like to increase the playback speed to 1.5X or 1.75 x so that I can get through everything faster. Is there a way to set it at those tempos? I only see the 2X, 4X, 6X, etc. options, but these are too fast and I can't understand what is being said. Is there a way to set this to 1.5X the original speed?
    Thanks!

  • How to divide audio in Left and Right Channel?

    Hi there,
I want to divide audiofiles into the left and right channel, but I keep forgetting the shortcut.
Can anyone give me the shortcut again?
    Thanks a lot

If you have two audio clips of the same duration, you can select (highlight) both, then hit Option l (lowercase L) to make them a stereo pair. The pan will be set to -1 indicating that channel 1 will be routed to the left output channel and channel 2 will be routed to the right output channel.

  • I would like to transfer old reel-to-reel tapes to an iMac. There are different recordings on the left and right channel of the tapes. When I connect the tape deck to the Mac, I get one recording on the left, the other on the right speaker. What to do?

I was about to transfer some music from a reel-to-reel machione to my Mac. There are different sound recordings on the left and right channels. When I connect with RCA cables and Y-connector, I hear one recording from the left speaker, another from the right side. How do I record only one side, but hear it from both speakers?

You don't say what end, or connectors are plugged into what. I'm assuming the RCA connectors are on the reel-to-reel end. Since the tape has two different mono recordings, one on each track, you of course only want one at a time during playback. Otherwise, the Mac (or any recording setup) can only treat it as a stereo recording with the standard Left-Right tracks.
    1)  There are multiple ways to connect different types of cables to get a mono signal down to a stereo output at the Mac. Here's one way.
    2) Plug any RCA cable (single cable or stereo) into only the right or left RCA output of the reel-to-reel.
    3) On the other end of the RCA cable, plug in an adapter like this. That will feed the single RCA output into a mono 1/8" plug.
    4) Then plug that adapter into this. That turns the 1/8" mono signal into a "stereo" output with the same single track audio being fed to the Mac on both the left and right channels.
    5) Record either the left or right output of the reel-to-reel. Rewind the tape and switch the RCA connector on the reel-to-reel to the right channel (if you started with the left) and record that mono signal as stereo.
Or, avoid all of this hardware mumbo-jumbo in the first place and do this:
    1) Record the audio just the way you have it. Two different recordings, one on each channel.
    2) Copy the audio recording to a new name and open it in your editor.
    3) Highlight the left track and copy/paste it into the right track. Presto! Mono recording of the left track on both channels. Save the recording.
    4) Repeat, only copy/pasting the right track into the left track and save the second recording.

  • How do I get page numbers on the left and right side of the page?

I am finishing up a book in PAGES '08 on my Mac.
How do I get page numbers on the left and right side of the page.

If the icons are from dmg files that were used to install 3rd party apps like this one for VueScan
Control (right) - click on the open dmg icon and select "Eject  xxxx" from the contextual window.
Then find the actual dmg file associated with those icons
and drag to the Trash in the Dock and empty.

  • How to separate left and right channel in audiotracks

I would like to adjust audio tracks left and right channels separetly from each other. Now the volume levels are linked together. Is there a way to separate them?
Other question is ; for some reason the pan slider in viewer does not seem to have left/right affect but kind of mono/stereo affect. It is supposed to be so, or do I have some audio preference button in wrong position?

To answer to myself: Go to the User Manual and read the Chapter Audio Editing Basics from page 425.
Or click the clip in timeline which you want to change, and go to Modify---> uncheck the stereo pair option in there.

  • How to split audio tracks into left and right channels as we do in FCP or Avid needed for dubbing?

We are recording in two languages, one in left and the other in right channel. However, in Adobe Premiere Pro we are not able to split the track when we take up for rought cut. Both the tracks are found mixed. Pl help. Since we need to maintian the split track to dubb into other languages.

You need to do this before adding the footage to the sequence:
Select the clip (or multiple clips) in the bin
Menu > Clip > Modify > Audio Channels (Shift G)
Change 'Number of Audio Tracks' to 2
    Change 'Channel Format' to Mono
    Dismiss the info message.
When you place the clip in a sequence it will now drop L and R into separate tracks (assuming your sequence allows that audio model).

  • Possilbe to record seperate left and right from line

If you want to record using microphones then, you need to use cartain type of mics (I quess you know that already) or external sources where you have connected those mics. If your mono sources are type of line-source then it's as easy as Katman points.
Why to use deticated software instead of some Smart Recordes etc. ? ... better control over recording (L/R balance, post-processing, editing, etc.).

  • How to make mono recording play both left and right channels

I have an old mono recording that plays only on the left channel. How can I copy it to play on the right so I'll hear it on both channels? I put it on itunes and then tranferred it to Garageband in hope I could finally get it to play on both channels. I've tried everything in Garageband and nothing works. It seems simple to me, just duplicate the one channel to the other. Garageband says if you use the compressor it will play in both channels, but it won't. Any ideas? It's a recording from a band I was in back in 1966. We used state of the art reel to reel but it was mono! All these years I've tried to figure how to fix it. Thanks

I already recorded it from the tape to CD Spin Doctor through the line in and as I said it only comes out on the left channel. So then it's on itunes and I then transfer it to Garageband but it still is only on the left channel.I guess I could do this the old fashion way and get a mono plug to re-record to Spin doctor but in this day and age of sophisticated computer software I thought there may be an easier way. I guess I wasted my money thinking Garage band would help me edit this recording. Oh well, such is life!!!!

  • How do I break a stereo audio clip to get the left and right separately

$subject really. If I break apart a stereo audio clip I just get track 1, I can't get track 2.
    Thanks

I tried that, but I keep getting "Unsupported Clip" in the channel configuration audio tab of the Inspector.
    Here's my workflow:
    Import Flip cam's h.264/AAC MP4 files
Edit a clip into a project.
Break apart the clip, to give separate video and audio segments
The green audio segment (will have -a1 after the name in the segment) will be say it's an "Unsupported Clip" in the channel configuration audio tab of the Inspector.
If I change the original clip to dual mono before I break apart I get two mono clips, which is what I was after (but then I could just disable one of the dual mono tracks without splitting apart if that was all I wanted).
I suggest that getting an "Unsupported Clip" when I break apart these clips is a bug.

  • How do I deal with audio, seperate left and right and make each stereo--CS5

I have a two mono mike recording which I can seperate into two seperate audio timeline tracks one is now left track in a seperate timline and the other is right in the other timeline, how do I make each of these tracks then into psuedo stereo tracks?  Do I have to go to Soundbooth or is there a simple way in Premiere?

Bill G, tell me what I am missing and I'll use your method.  I have what I think you are describing, and I don't understand the need to do anything special, if you use channel mapping.
I record a lav on one channel, and a different wireless mic on the other.  When captured, I have a clip that PR would normally treat as a single stereo track.
BEFORE putting any clips on the timeline, select all clips and set channel mapping.  Set each channel to mono.  Now PR treats these as two mono tracks.  The output for each mono is the master track, which in my project is stereo.  I can change "volume" for each track in the mixer, etc.  but each channel is provided to the left and right  master output.
I didn't go back to sort out what you had, but if you had two stereo tracks, one each with a left and right channel only, I can see that you needed some other solution.

  • If I have audio coming from left channel. How do I make same audio Left and Right?

    Hi there,
I've recorded  some footage with a mono mic and it recorded the audio on the left channel of the audio. In FCP. I placed this audio clip as a part of a multi-cam clip but the sound is only coming out the left. Is there a way to set this audio to mono or to make them play the same levels through the left and right channels?
    Thanks,
    Caleb

Wow! 30 Seconds later, I figured it out. LOL
Under Inspector for audio, you just click on channel configuration, click on channel and use "Dual Mono" mode. Thanks Caleb!

  • How can I separate Left and right audio channels in labview 8.5 tia sal22

How can I separate Left and right audio channels in labview

    Greetings All
I have a working Labview vi that converts a math formula to an
audio signal.  I would like to have the
right and left audio channels playing different math audio signals is this
    possible?
    Example
Right channel -> plays the audio signal created by a math
    formula
Left channel -> plays the audio signal created by another
math formula with adjustable phase control
I’ve included a VI with a working audio and math formula but
I’m not sure how to separate the left and right channels.
    I’m using labview 8.5
I looked up a similar question on the
support board and it said” use an instance of the the Sound Output Write that
has a 1D waveform data type input (i.e.  Sound Output Write (DBL)). Each
element in the array would correspond to a channel.”
But I’m not exactly sure what he meant.  I’m using a formula to generate the wave file

Sorry it took so long to get back.  Here's the new VI with it splitting out the left and right channels.
I'm using a Gigaport HD 8 output usb audio device but I'm experience clicks and pops.  I increase the buffers
but I still get the clicks and pops.  I know gigaport HD can use ASIO drivers which most likely would solve the problem but one needs to code in C for this which I'm not proficient in.  Can someone recommend a work around to prevent this clicks and pops, can I somehow change my VI to fix this? Does anyone have a VI that will allow access to the ASIO latency properties?
    I'm using labview 8.5
And a gigaport HD which is a USB audio device which outputs 8 analog signals (it is ASIO compatible)
