How to set "Energy Saver"- Setting for Power Adapter or Battery?

Under the System preference, how do I need to set the Energy Saver? There are options of Power Adapter or Battery for the Setting for. What is difference?

Here's how I have my energy saver settings set, first, click 'show details':

Put display to sleep: 5 minutes
Put the hard disk to sleep whenever possible is checked.
Under options, reduce brightness before sleep and show battery status on menu bar are checked.
Processor Performance: Automatic
Battery (when disconnected from a power outlet)
Under Sleep: Put the computer to sleep: never (I close the display when I want to put it to sleep)
Put display to sleep: 3 minutes
Put the hard disk to sleep whenever possible is checked.
Under options, reduce brightness of this display when using this power source, reduce the brightness before sleep, and show battery status on menu bar are checked.

How to order for replacement of power adapter for my WRT160N router?
    From forum thread
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=20899
I can order a replacement of my supplied power adapter (MU06-6120050-C5)  with a new one (PS-WRT160N-V3.2-E) because my original one must be connected first to the power outlet before being connected to the router. That conditiongave me a problembecause everytime I have power failure, I need to manually disconnect my router and then reconnect it to the power adapter, otherwise my router won't function.
So, how is the process to order for power adapter replacement?

I think you need to contact linksys to get the replacement.

Doesn't sound like it.  It sounds like you're being logged-off.
Does your Mac go through the complete Restart cycle -- black screen, gray and/or blue screen momentarily, startup chime, etc?
If you're not sure, do a Restart just to watch the process; the next time the problem occurs, see if it's the same.
You need to know which it is, as these will have very different causes, and different places to look for a solution.

My COMPUTER goes to sleep and disrupts my apple tv all the time. How can I fix this?

That you are getting the BONG is a good sign, it's unlikely to be hardware if you are able to hear that.
Start by running SW update. It's not that there is a specific fix, but when updating it may rewrite some system files which may get this going again purely as a side affect. Worth a go, and should not harm the system.
Try reset the PRAM - Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Hopefully one of these quick fixes works, otherwise we'll need to try isolate the issue next - so if still having a problem, I'd try create a new user and login as that user to see if the issue persists (which will tell us if it's system wide or user specific)

  • How to prevent energy saver while viewing Preview slideshow?

If you have the energy saver set to black out the screen relatively quickly, it will kick in while Preview is displaying a slideshow. For some other applications this does not happen, like DVD Player. Is this just an oversight? I cannot find any setting for this.

Yes, it does seem to me like what works in iMovie and DVD Player should work in a Preview slideshow too. Too bad that it doesn't.
You can file an enhancement request at http://bugreport.apple.com. It requires a (free) ADC membership. If Apple considers your request worth implementing, you can look for it in a subsequent software update.

  • Mac does not sleep after setting Energy Saver settings

Hi, got a slight problem after installing Leopard. The thing is that my Mac seems to ignore the settings specified in Energy Saver Preference Pane, the screen is put to sleep as it should, that's working fine, but the computer does not go to sleep when designated. I can put it to sleep manually (or by using Schedule) but setting an inactivity time doesn't work.
No visible console messages or similar, no external HDDs or other external devices, no bluetooth, no file sharing, no bad apparent application/process running, no spotlight indexing, as you see I have tried a few things to fix the problem...
Any ideas of how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Message was edited by: Chessax

Ok, seems like I fixed the problem, the numerous things I tried must have solved it, probably the SMC or PRAM/NVRAM fixed it, though I'm not sure, but anyway it's working now, so I'm good.
And to asphotos: No I don't have any printer at all, and I don't use airport, not sure what caused the problem really, just appeared after Snow Leopard install... Thanks for the tip though.

  • Still sleeping even after setting Energy Saver to Never

I'm trying to use my 2.53 GHz (Late 2009) MM as a server but even after setting the 'Computer sleep' preference to 'Never' in the Energy Saver System Preferences panel, the MM still goes to sleep. This isn't a big issue for me since I can and have used Wake On Lan apps/scripts, but it's a major pain in the you-know-what for other people who need to access this server over the internet.
Could there be some persistent overriding preference somewhere that is allowing this MM to go to sleep when in fact it should not be because of my setting? I've searched but can find anything.
TIA for any help with this.

Interesting... I had an EyeTV that I did install on an older G5 PowerMac that I stopped using before I migrated to this MM back in March. I'll check to see if the EyeTV app was also migrated over and uninstall it if necessary.
I would have thought that the EyeTV software would default to a "Never Sleep" state considering it's purpose. I'll check this possibility out when I get home after the long weekend.

  • Forgetting Energy Saver Setting

    Hi,
I have an older iMac G-350 Slot Loading machine running OS X 10.3.9 with 576 MB RAM. I had set my machine to automatically start each day at 7 AM, but now I'm not able to turn that off. I've gone into System Preferences, Energy Saver, deauthenticated and turned it off and locked the settings, but it always goes back to turning itself on at 7 AM each day. Any clue why I can't change that?
    Thanks!
    Donny

If you close the padlock before quitting System Preferences, Energy Saver may not be able to properly write the change; reopen System Preferences, make the change, and then quit System Preferences without closing the padlock. Next, reopen System Preferences and check what the setting is.
Closing the padlock requires that an administrator password be entered before anyone using the computer can change the settings; some setting changes are recorded when you close System Preferences or move to another pane as opposed to recording the change immediately after the change has been made in System Preferences. It does not prevent the computer from changing the settings on its own.

  • How to Change Analysis Services Server for Power View

I can't seem to figure out how to change what SSAS server/instance that is used to build the cubes for Power View items uploaded to SharePoint. I tried changed the trusted servers listed in the Excel Services service application but if I remove the original
SSAS server (which of course is a test server, not to be used for production) and have only the prod SSAS instance listed the reports fail to load with the generic 400 error. Is there another setting that I'm missing?

  • How to fix energy saver issues on iMac with mavericks upgrade

Since I updated to Mavericks from lion my energy saver has issues..The display will not turn off as I set it to do.

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
Take all the steps suggested in this support article. That's the starting point for any further effort to solve the problem. Skipping any of those steps may mean that the problem won't be solved. Note that, as stated in the article, the computer  will not sleep if Internet Sharing is enabled.
    Step 2
    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Accessibility ▹ Speakable Items: Off
    Step 3
    Select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth ▹ Advanced...
    and uncheck both boxes marked
Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if...
    Step 4
    Reset the SMC.
    Step 5
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 6
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 7
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

  • HP Docking Station EN488AA - part number for power adapter

    Hi,
I have a HP Compaq nx8220 notebook, with a HP Docking Station (EN488AA).
Unfortunately I have lost the power supply for the docking station.
I still have the power supply for the notebook itself (393955-001) but it does not plug in to the docking station. It is the correct voltage but only 90W instead of 120W, and the connector is the wrong size.
I've been looking online for the part number for the correct replacement power supply for the dock, but became very confused when I found sites advertising the same replacement part for both the nx8220 and the EN488AA when clearly they are different because the plugs don't match. None specify the plug size so I don't know which is which.
Can anyone help me identify the correct replacement part? Or better still, is there a plug adapter available so I can use my existing power supply for the dock too?
Attached are two photos - the plug from the power adapter next to the inlet of the notebook (fits) and the dock (doesn't fit).
    Thanks,
    EddieD97
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The pin in picture looks liek a 5mm pin and one one on docking station is a smart pin. So you would need something like the one in picture in this link.
In the picture observe the component in left hand bottom corner.
    http://www.amazon.com/HP-power-adapter-airplane-DV574A/dp/B0006VX07I/ref=pd_sim_sbs_pc_11?ie=UTF8&re...
I would say, take the adaptor to store and get one.
    Wish you luck,

  • Looking for Power adapter for 23"

I have this beautiful 23 Cinema display just looking at me wondering why I don't plug it in. Well....
I got a great deal off Ebay but it didn't come with the white box that connects the AC / wall cord into the monitor [the seller was upfront]. My local shops says they are on back order and it will be two weeks.
If anyone has an extra one, even if used, I will pay you for it. Thanks for reading, have a great day.

Ask your local shop whether they can get you the power adapter for the Cinema Display 30-inch. Although slightly larger in size and power capacity (160 watt vs 90 watt) it is backward compatible and works great. If you're anxious to get up and running then that is the way to do it.
