How to set it right again, somehow got messed up

Hello there,
I have just read William Kucharski's post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2227197
and have issue with no 2) airport shows self assigned IP address
and with no 3) under router it is blank
I have an iMac that is connected via ethernet to a DSL router. I have had airport on. Couple of days ago I got an iPhone and it picked up the WiFi without any hassle. As of this morning it doesn't anymore.
Now I have no clue about network settings etc, and also nothing was changed by me. I didn't go into the settings to change them. Anyhow, they are obviously different now and my iPhone won't pick the existing connection up anymore.
If someone could please point me to threads that explain solutions to step 1 and 3 as above because while I now know what's wrong I don't know how to change it.

I don't know what I don't know. I am no specialist in these things. All I know is that it worked for a couple of days without me doing anything. After reading that thread I quoted that I need help with step1 and 3 as the original writer requested to ease answering up. I have described exactly what it says according to his post. I am not sure what more I can say about it.

No. It is a DSL router, not a WiFi router or base station.
would you consider forking out some $$$ to get an Apple wireless router such as this ? you might even get a refurbished unit from your local Apple online store.

Yes so I know it's Apples term for it and it is on. It says "Airport is on" .. ?? And as I said, I don't have a base station, just a normal DSL router. So I guess that would mean answer 1) (I don't know anything about this things)

What connectivity do you mean? It's all working fine, connecting to net etc.
Cycling power - whatever that is? So no, I haven't tried that.
a +power cycle+ means basically that you shut down modem, router (which you don't have yet), and your Mac for, say, 15 minutes. you would turn them back on one after another in, say, 5 minute intervals. modem first, router next, and last your Mac.
What provides my WiFi signal is the iMac
The other day I was able to set up a network that worked, I chose another channel and that password option with 13 characters and it worked. Just now after coming back from a trip I tried it again and it jumps back to own IP address and won't work no matter what I try.
Makes me feel very frustrated .. Many of the apps on the iPhone rely on being able to connect via WiFi to the iMac only and now won't sync.
i think your best bet will be to get that airport express station (AX). connect your modem to the AX via ethernet cable and set it up as your wireless router. this way both your Mac and iPhone will connect to your AX wirelessly.
post back if you do decide to get that AX and we'll help you to set it up.

RMI Server behind Router: How to set the right IP?

Hi, I am having trouble with the Server of an RMI application, the set up is this:
1. The server is not always running on the same host: it may be a computer with a publicly visible and unique IP, or it may be under a computer behind a router.
2 . The user that runs the server may not know how to get his IP in the router environment.
3. The user that runs the server knows sh*t about rmiregistry or how to set a Property to the java interpreter (for example: -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=<host>).
4. The Server code is this:

}I wrote the code that way (and not using Naming.rebing("//" + host_name + "/Service", serviceObject)) so the server user won't need to run the rmiregistry (In fact, the Server is deployed via a jar file, so just a happy double-click to the jar will do the work)...
OK, then the problem is this: The client is always having "connection refused" Exceptions while the server is behind a router and not in the same network of the client.
The IP that is shown in the exception is always the inner IP of the host (or 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x or whatever it may be). So it seems that the registry is always choosing that IP and not the router's.
I need to know if there is a way to rewrite the Server code so the user just should do the same 'double-click' to run the server and not mess around "investigating" the outer IP. I read some of the RMI specs and it suggest to do IP Tunneling and some other techniques that I don't think may be appropiate to the nature of this "roaming server" application.

Thanks, but that still doesn't do the work. As I stated in the post, not every user will know how to set java.rmi.server.hostname or even look for an outer IP... I was asking for an "automagical" way to code my server class so it could do some job to do the guessing.
Even though... I tried both ways at home with the help of a friend as the client, and it seemed to work. The client connected to the server but it was kicked out in less than 30 seconds. Being specific, every client, the ones inside and the ones outside my network. As if the only right way was to let the JVM set the IP (but again, in that way the server is invisible to the clients outside the network).

to know more about that text area. Is the intention to type into

how can I controlling the left / right audio channel while video playback, I can't find any method or class for this in JMF, anyone that can direct me how to do it?

The way I found to control two stereo channel is to implement a plug-in Effect that will control two volumes (left/right) indipandently.
You can start from the example GainEffect from sun, and implement your control.
For eample, if you want to mute the left channel, simply set to 0 all the odd samples (or even...I don't remember exactly, try it).
You have then to add you plug in to the processor chain... again see the examples.
More complex effects (panning etc) can be done in the same way, but it seems to me that it's quite CPU intensive.

3d picture background and location, how to set it right?

Hi, new here.
I'm trying to solve this issue, I have a 3d pictured
I want to add axis to the 3d space picture. as the lower 3d plot looks, and to get this "Box" moving around my space to the point "Append array" shows each iteration of tracking.
That's how i made this 3d picture:
Now I want to set 3d axis at the background to see my box moving around were "Appended array" directs it.
How can i do that?

How to set the right filter mode?

I have a few applications deployed in Tomcat 5.5.9 for which i need to control access.
I have created a policy to which I have added a rule of type URL Policy Agent and added a few users as subjects.
Now that the policy is in place, I tried to change the filter.mode property in AMAgent.properties file to all the possible options and I have noticed the following:
filter.mode=NONE              Allows all users without authentication
filter.mode=SSO_ONLY          Allows all users after authentication against DS
filter.mode=URL_POLICY          Disallows authentic users also (HTTP 403 error)
filter.mode=J2EE_POLICY          Allows all users after authentication against DS
filter.mode=ALL                      Disallows authentic users also (HTTP 403 error)
In my case all the observations except the J2EE_POLICY option work as required.
I conclude this as a part of my understanding gained through the following:

I have failed to understand why the J2EE_POLICY option allows users which are not included as subjects in the realm as authentic.
I have also tried setting the com.sun.am.policy.agents.do_sso_only=false property but dint get things working as needed.
Any help in this regard would be appreciated.

J2ee_policy allows users which are not included as subjects in the realm because the policy agent actually doesn't validate the URL policies configured in AM, it just validate j2ee declarative security from your web application.
So, as I suspect, if you don't have security constraints in your webapp, you won't enforce security.
With URL_POLICY option, you will enable url policy evaluations as you configure it in Access Manager. So, in this case and in the ALL option case, check that the url policy is correctly configured, mainly the rule.
You can enable debug.level=message instead of debug.level=error in AMAgent.properties in order to see what's happening. When you enable message level debug, the agent will create some debug log files, please take a look on the amFilter and amWebPolicy log files.

when you double press the home button and do a dearch for safari, does it show up?
if not, you can go to settings> general> restrictions and see if there is any restriction on safari

I used to be able to view the album artwork bottom left before I updated the software recently, and cannot establish how to set this up again. Help !!

Before downloading the latest version of I-Tunes, I used to be able to view the ALBUM ARTWORK at bottom left when clicking on a song.
I am now unable to see the artwork.
Is it no longer possible with the updated software ??

Correct, Apple have removed that feature. However, you can still see the artwork of the song that's playing; it's shown in the Now Playing indicator at the top of the iTunes window. It is small, but if you click on it, a larger version pops up.
Also, in Albums View, you can see the album artwork.

Setting access rights at component level

I have created a component. The business wants to restrict its use to a certain group of users.
If a user is part of that group, ONLY then the coomponent should be available in sidekick at time of page creation.
How is setting access rights at component level being achieved?

As Jorg stated, Group ACL settings are meant to control access at a page
level. As he also stated is possible to control access even further, but
with additional effort and difficulty. But, nearly every client wants this
done down to the component level and on a group by group basis. So, what
I've found, over the years that works is the following:
- Configure the available components per template type per parsys
- Further configure the available components at the group level
For the custom built components, you can remove them at the group level by
un-checking the 'read' ACL on the dialogs for the given component. You
don't want to un-check read for the whole component because then the users
of that group experience random 'holes' in the content. But, if you
un-check 'read' for the dialogs, then the component will not display in
Side-kick (at least on 5.4 and prior this is the case).
The only caveat to this is the OOB components. That is where you will run
into a lot more difficulty. Those should mostly be enabled/disabled at the
design level for the entire page/parsys.
