if u are in the set up assistant on the phone and u sign into ur apple id when it prompts u it will automatically sign into those settings for u if u choose to use them individually, it will also prompt u if u want to do that.

If the apps that are on your son's iPad were purchased under his Dad's Apple ID, then signing your Apple ID onto the iPad will not help you with updating those apps.
Also, if the iPad was sync'd with his Dad's iTunes library, then hooking it up to your computer/iTunes library, will require you to reset the iPad, and everything that was loaded under the other Library and Apple ID will be wiped out.
Can you provide a little more info about what was set up under which Apple ID and what iTunes library the iPad was sync'd with?

Just had the same problem:
1) go to SETTINGS
2) click on STORE
3) now click APPLE ID
4) 4 options will come up...
5) choose SIGN OUT
6) sign back in with the name you prefer

Forget booting USB on any G4
USB booting is possible on all G4s and later models starting with the G4 (AGP) models, per -

I think I read somewhere (couldn't find it just now) that the earlier versions of OSX are not USB bootable, so booting to USB on G4s might need to be by using OS 9.
I've never tried USB booting. However, I have made a bootable Zip100 disk for my G4/500 (AGP), using its internal Zip drive. Did it just to see if it would work - it does. There's a fair amount of room left over on the 100MB disk, too.

How to set up Apple TV as an Airplay soure?

I have just bought a new Apple TV, Loewe Airspeaker, and thrown away a ton of old hifi kit.
I have also set up iTunes Match and my music collection is now available in the cloud.
BUT.... I can't seem to use my ATV as an Airplay source!! I can stream my music from iTunes Match to the ATV but the only way of outputting the sound seems to be an optical out or HDMI to my TV. And my new Loewe speaker only has a 3.5mm input.
So my options are as follows:
- Buy a DAC to convert the optical out from the ATV to the analog 3.5mm input on my speaker (more boxes and cables and defeats the purpose of doing this in the first place)
- Keep my laptop all the time and use iTunes as an Airplay source (again defeats the purpose as I want to play music without using the PC)
Am I missing something?? Is there a way for the ATV to be set up as an Airplay source??

pretty crap isn't it!
sounds like Apple are getting there with iTunes Match which allows music to be streamed wirelessly over the internet and they are getting there with Airplay which allows you to stream music over a network to different speakers but they haven't put the 2 things together!
Shame, as it would be a great if I could play music though the ATV with the computer (surely the aim of iTunes Match is to do this) but I will have to use iTunes on my Mac as the source sadly.
Or buy a DAC and wire the ATV to the Airplay speaker (again seems to defeat the purpose!)

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

How do you Set up apple ID / iCloud for family?

I have an Apple ID along with an iCloud account. My wife also has her own ID and iCloud account. We have two young kids that are starting to enjoy games, movies, music, etc... Currently we have 3 iPhones, iPad, an iMac , and Apple TV.
Both my wife and I have been purchasing apps separately but would like to share the apps with all of the devices. (We are both currently using the same music and photo libraries). Even with a family account it is important that my wife and I maintain our own contacts and mail and iMessages.
I like the idea of setting up a new Apple ID but get a little confused when it comes to iCloud.
Should I create a new Apple ID for the family and use one of the current iCloud accounts for the family purchases? (or get a third iCloud account?)
If we go with this new shared account idea, is it possible to still load some of the apps that we have already purchased, or do we have to start fresh and re-buy the apps that we like under the new account?
Seeing the majority of apps have been purchased under my Apple ID, it may make sense to use my iCloud for all of the purchases but don't want to share mail etc with my wife or kids?!? I'm confused.

I was having severe trouble with this myself until finally I decided to call Apple and spent an hour on the phone with a senior tech advisor. We finally figured out how to get it to set up Apple ID Authorization.
To do this First go into System Preferences>Sharing, then make sure screen sharing is turned on. From there, there is a list of authorized users with plus and minus buttons in the bottom left. Click the plus to add a new user, and then click New Person in the new window. After that a final window appears asking for User Name and Password. Simply put the name of the person you are adding with any password and click Create. From here go back to System Preferences and click Users & Groups. In this window you should see the new Sharing Only user. Click on them and set an Apple ID. After that test the new Sharing User by having the owner of the Apple ID connect to screen sharing or File sharing from their Mac. Keep in mind this only works Lion to Lion and they have to have their Apple ID set to their user on their own machine.
