How to set my installer to seperate hard disk

Hi anyone,
I have mac OS 10.5.8 and use a seperate hard disk for my itunes. I just noticed that even though I was downloading the updates for itunes they are not being installed on the secondary hard disk that i keep my itunes on. My computer thinks that everything is up to date but my itunes remains 10.2 even though i have downloaded the new 10.5 update. This is messing up my iphone and ipad 2 and making me sad. Can anyone tell me how to tell my installer to switch from hard disk 1 which is my default destination for everything EXEPT my itunes which is on another hard disk. THX and smily face

The application probably has to be kept in the Applications folder on the hard drive used to boot the computer.  I haven't expeimented with moving it elsewhere but for some applications that use multiple resources this is the case.
You can have your library located on an external drive. By library I mean media files and the important iTunes library files which are all located in your iTunes Library folder.*  It sounds like you already do this.
There are various other files used by iTunes, some of which are in your own user Library folder as well as user Preferences folder.
*Note: You can also have these split up in different places if you don't set iTunes to manage your music, but most people don't do that.

  • Using a seperate hard disk in combination with AirTunes.

I have all my music on a seperate hard disk, from the hard disk I load it in iTunes on my iMac and from my iMac I share the music wireless with all the macs in the house.
My question however is; Can i also use AirTunes when I have all my music on a seperate hard disk? I haven't started using AirTunes yet, but since I have recently bought a new stereo set I thought I might want to check it out.

My question however is; Can i also use AirTunes when I have all my music on a seperate hard disk?
Yes. The important thing to remember is that iTunes uses AirTunes to stream the audio source to the AirPort Express Base Station (AX). As long as the iTunes Library has access to the audio files on this hard disk, it should be able to stream it to the AX.

How to recovery the deleted files from hard disk like images, media files by using c#.net

It's important to define deleted and recovery. You can recover file from the recycle bin using the Win API. Here's an
example in C/C++. You need to
    pinvoke SHFileOperation.

  • How to get the size of a hard disk?

    Hi,
As above, how to get the size of a hard disk by using Java.
    Thanks you!
    Alex

I would be interested in the answer of this question, too.
In core Java there is no way to find it out in a platform independent manner because of the hardware abstraction of the VM. So my only idea is to write a native library for doing this and colling it via JNI

  • How to set up a Toshiba external hard drive on my Macbook Pro?

    Hi there,
I just bought a Toshiba external hard drive that says on the package it is compatible with Macs. I plugged it in, installed the Pogoplug PC for Mac (no idea what this is) and Tuxera NTFS for Mac (it was in the "Mac Driver" folder). Now what? Is my data now automatically going onto the hard drive? Do I need to install anything else? This seems too easy! What am I missing here?
    Thanks!

New hard drives out of box should be formatted for your Mac
go to DISK UTILITY and verify what it says your HD is formatted as under the "ERASE" tab
HFS+ above is the "mac format"
Format (erase) it in "mac osx Extended journaled"
AFTER THIS YOU CAN DRAG AND DROP FILES AS YOU LIKE
    To show HD on desktop
go into FINDER at top then PREFERENCES  then GENERAL tab
then check "hard disks" and "external disks"
There is no such thing as a MAC or PC hard drive,.....they can all be formatted as you wish for either PC or Mac (or both)
    FORMAT TYPES
    FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
    Maximum file size: 4GB.
    Maximum volume size: 2TB
You can use this format if you share the drive between Mac OS X and Windows computers and have no files larger than 4GB.
    NTFS (Windows NT File System)
    Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
    Maximum file size: 16 TB
    Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.
HFS+ ((((MAC FORMAT)))) (Hierarchical File System, a.k.a. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Don't use case-sensitive)
    Read/Write HFS+ from native Mac OS X
Required for Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! backups of Mac internal hard drive.
To Read HFS+ (but not Write) from Windows, Install HFSExplorer
    Maximum file size: 8EiB
    Maximum volume size: 8EiB
You can use this format if you only use the drive with Mac OS X, or use it for backups of your Mac OS X internal drive, or if you only share it with one Windows PC (with MacDrive installed on the PC)
    EXFAT (FAT64)
Supported in Mac OS X only in 10.6.5 or later.
Not all Windows versions support exFAT.
    exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table)
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support exFAT
    Maximum file size: 16 EiB
    Maximum volume size: 64 ZiB
You can use this format if it is supported by all computers with which you intend to share the drive.  See "disadvantages" for details.

  • How can I get my LaCie external hard disk icon to reappear on my desktop?

The iMac discussion section does not seem open to me asking this question. It's geared to the Intel Macs or other categories which do not allow for me to type in the following question:
    Bottom Line Question:
How can I get my La Cie external hard disk icon to re-appear on my desktop?
    Background:
    I clicked Go > Computer
At that point there the usual set of icons in the far left hand column, including one for my LaCie external hard disk. Near that icon there was a dark upturned truncated/shortened arrow. I absent-mindedly clicked on that dark arrow, and at that moment I could hear my LaCie external hard drive power down; I heard the sound of hardware powering down.
The LaCie external hard drive is sitting right next to my iMac and its blue light is ON so I know that at very least I didn't turn it off.
    But where is it?
And how can I get it to reappear on my desktop?
Right now when I click onto Go > Computer, the LaCie external hard drive disk is NOT THERE.
    Thank you.
    Lorna in Southern California

James, yes. I put the question in the iMac section and did get some solutions. My LaCie external hard drive is back now. I was aware that the arrow is connected to Eject actions, but was concerned when I went to Finder Preferences and selected the LaCie to show up on the Desktop, and its icon did not show up on the desktop. I hope you and your family are enjoying the weekend, James. But how could you not: You have little Kate there with you. Lorna in Southern California

  • How do i clear space on my hard disk

I have a Macbook Pro that I bought in August of 2011. I set up a regular scheduled check for software updates, which have gone smoothly until recently. Now, every time that the box pops up saying that it is checking for new software updates, it finds the updates, but when I click to install them, I get another box that comes up and says "Your hard disk does not have enough space" "You need 3.57 GB of available space to download and install the updates. To increase available space, remove files from your startup disk, and then try again".
I don't understand how this could be true, as I do not use my computer for anything that could possibly take up so much space. Secondly, I wouldn't even know how to clear space on my hard disk...
    HELP!

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion's Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.

I believe you used ntfs for a reason. As far as I know, Windows isn't friendly with hdd filesystems others than fat or ntfs, so once you format your external harddrive to ext4, windows won't talk to it at all, unless you install some additional driver or software.
You have several possibilities to do:
    1) You could use FAT32, it's kind of a dumb filesystem, linux, mac and windows can read and write to it, there are some limitations like file permisions or 4GB file size limit.
    2) You could make multiple partitions on your external harddrive, one with ntfs (for windows) and the other with some fs that is support natively in Linux and Mac, I believe only option would be HFS+. I'm not an expert, maybe somebody will correct me. Anyway, if you aren't going to connect your disk to Mac, than ext4 would be a good choice. But this approach with two different partions is kind of dumb, because usually you need the same data available on whatever platform.
    3) If I were you, I would continue using NTFS or FAT32. It's not ideal, but it's a price you have to pay for dealing with Windows systems.
    4) If there is any other smarter solution, I believe somebody will add it to responses bellow.
Anyway, it's weird that your problem persists. There has to be something wrong with your filesystem, otherwise ls wouldn't show you question marks in its output. Did you perform chkdisk via GUI? It has to say that either there wasn't any error with your fs, or that there was some error. We live (unfortunatelly) in binary computer world. I mean you can perform that command from shell, or however microsoft calls it, and if you run it in a proper configuration, it will tell you whether your fs is bad or not and perform needed repairs.
And how to format disk to ext4?
Backup your data, run as root fdisk /dev/yourexthdd (fdisk /dev/sdd), delete all partitions, create new ones, once you are done, write changes down. fdisk is pretty easy to use, don't be afraid of it. Then you have to create filesystem on each partition you created with fdisk, so if you created only one, run mkfs.ext4 /dev/yourexthddwithpartnumber (mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdd1). There are nice articles about doing these things on Arch Wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/File_Systems), don't be worried to read them

  • 10.2.8 installation and external hard disk does not show on desktop

I just reinstalled OS X 10.2 (by erasing the hard disk during installation) and upgraded with the Combo pack to 10.2.8 . This is an iMac G4 1GHz with a 17-inch display. I tried connecting a Western Digital MyBook with 500Gb through both the USB port and through FireWire. In both cases the hard drive does not appear on the desktop BUT does appear in the Disk Utility program and in the System Information window. Finder, therefore, doesn't display the drive. The MyBook drive is formatted to Windows FAT 32. Before I reinstalled OS X 10.2.8, this machine was running 10.3.9 and the drive did appear (I'm still searching for the 10.3 disk).
Is this an issue with OS X 10.2.8? Given the drive is detected by the System Information section and by the Disk Utility, is there a way of forcing Finder to display it (and allow access)?

Sometimes I have found that I have to turn of the ext. hd and then reconnect the firewire cables. there is a cylinder that is an inch away from one of the firewire plugs, which should be connected toward the tower and the other firewire plug toward the ext. hd. have patience, sometimes it will show up. also a restart maybe...

  • Need advice for SAP installation on External  Hard disk

    Hi Gurus,
I have HP laptop with configuration of 512 MB RAM and 50 GB hard disk...i recently bought 250 GB segate external  hard disk for SAP installation...My doubt here is if i  install SAP in external hard disk and will it work properly if i connect my laptop?
    ur advice is much appreciated
    Regards
    Dinesh

    Hi Dinesh,
I have installed SAP on external harddisk.
    And it will work properly.
But i think you need to increase your RAM.
After installation, please keep in mind one thing.
You will have to attach your external harddisk before your machine starts, because your OS will be in internal harddisk, so SAP and oracel services won't be able to run without external hard-disk.
and in case you attach after system startup, please start all services.

  • How to group my videos by year/hard disk

The new iMovie with the Mavericks seems to sort all the movies based on date when they were imported rather than the date videos were created.
iMovies 11 nicely grouped them by year and hard disk if i wanted but dont see any option on the imovies that came with mavericks
Is there a way to change the view as it was in imovies 11?

I need this back too.  In the previous version of iMovie, I really liked being able to see all of my raw video that I have imported over the years grouped by year on the left side of the screen.  Makes it so much easier when it's time to make a video montage or other video containing clips from multiple years.  If someone knows how to re-enable this in the new version of iMovie, please let me know.  If it's been removed, I need to know that as well as that is a deal-breaker for me, and I will just stick with the current version.
    Thanks.

  • How can I save captured clips to hard disk using the actual video recorded date, not the date I transferred it?

When using Batch capture in AP5.5, the clips are saved to hard disk using the capture date as the Created Date and Modified Date.  How do I configure Premier to use the actual clips recorded date (Meta Data Basic/Date Created) so that I can view them in Windows folders and other applications based on the date the video was recorded, not when I imported it.

AFAIK, there's no way to do that with Premiere Pro.  You can probably find a utility on the Internet that will change the dates for you after the fact.
    Cheers,

  • How do you get files off a hard disk

I had this old macbook from 2007. It recently died on me but I want to get the flies and pictures off it. I now have a imac which a back up reguraly but would still like my old files. I have dicided not to ask a professional as he told me that he would charge per file and I only want a few.

Heres a detailed guide that shows you exactly how and how easy it us to remove the hard drive. http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Core+2+Duo+Hard+Drive+Replacement/514
As was mentioned above buy an inexpensive enclosure like this http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-2-5-Inch-External-Aluminum-Enclosure/dp/B00E362W9O /ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392581711&sr=8-1&keywords=2.5%22+hard+drive+enclosure and you'll have access to all of your files.

  • How can I completely erase the iMac Hard Disk without the password?

I inherited an iMac running OS 10.9.5. I want to completely erase the Mac Hard Disk. I know the Administrator's name but not his password. He is deceased. I think I reset the password but don't know to inform the Keychain or accomplish the erasure.  How is this done?

Unless the iMac does not have a Recovery HD, you should be able to restart into Recovery Mode (Command+R) and use Disk Utility to erase the Macintosh HD. You don't need any password. Or are you saying the drive is encrypted (Filevault 2) and you need a userID/password to unlock/decrypt it?
If you want to reinstall OS X Mavericks, you may need your Apple ID/password assuming you downloaded it when it was available from the Mac App Store. Otherwise, depending on the model you might be able to use Internet Recovery (Command+Opton+R) to reinstall OS X Lion or above which ever the machine shipped with then upgrade from there. Or if it came with Snow Leopard or below you will need the install DVDs.
