How to set my optimal screen resolution?

My 2 year old was playing with my iMac G5 and messed up the resolution setting. I have managed to restore it something that looks okay, but am not certain what the optimum is. In System Preferences/Displays I have it set to 1600x1200 60Hz, which I suspect is more pixels than this 3.5 year old 17' iMac has. If I go to About this Mac/More Info... I see the iMac resolution says 1440x900 (this is not one of the choices in System Preferences/Displays) and the VGA Display says 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz which I wonder is for any external display or something. Anyhow, any way to discover and set the optimum resolution?

If you have a 17" iMac, then the optimal resolution for it's display is most certainly 1440*900. Regarding the external display, you'll have to check the manual or on the internet.
Your model of iMac only lets you mirror the image on iMac's display. Did you install 'Screen Spanning Doctor' for extra functionality?

All Screens are 72 dpi (dots per inch- in reference to pixels) no matter what screen resolution you use. The only difference the screen resolution will make is the size of the photo when you are viewing. Higher resolution means the picture will take up less space in you work area, but you will most likely have to zoom in to edit finer areas. Lower resolution will cause the picture you are editing to take up more of your work space and to see multiple photos side by side you will have to zoom out of fron the photos. So, really the choice is up to you.
When creating the original document, this is where you need to monitor the dpi. The higher the dpi, the clearer your photo will look in print. A high dpi also means more disk space is being taken up by the photo. Generally a good dpi for print is 300 dpi. Anything that is only purposed for a screen based project (i.e. internet logos) should be saved at 72 dpi. Why use disk space and cause your pages to take longer load if no one will be able to tell the difference on screen between 72 and 300 dpi?

In CS5 there are changes made to how the screen mode is reported. In CS3-CS5 the screen mode has a corresponding number. So for instance if the ScreenMode is set to "Preview Off" and you ask indesign CS3 or CS4 to display the screen mode, it will report "1936552047", while in CS5 it will report "PREVIEW_OFF".
try executing this simple command in respectively CS3, CS4 and CS5 and you will see what I am talking about:
alert(app.activeWindow.screenMode);
there is no difference if you do:
alert(app.activeDocument.layoutWindows[0].screenMode);
The CS5 solution is rather awkward to work with, unless I am missing something? PREVIEW_OFF is not a string, nor is it a number.
Example - doing:
myScreenMode=app.activeDocument.layoutWindows[0].screenMode;
and then trying to reset screenMode by something like:
app.activeDocument.layoutWindows[0].screenMode= myScreenMode
does not work in CS5 of course. It will throw an error. Neither will this line work:
app.activeDocument.layoutWindows[0].screenMode=ScreenModeOptions.myScreenMode;
Any way of working around this?

           Right click on your desktop screen and select "Screen Resolution"
             you will get this page

Now Connect your projector and make sure that the display is now on your projector.
   under Display: Set it to your projector
             -Change the Orientation: to Landscape View then hit Apply.

Optimal screen resolution for Windows XP

I'm using Windows XP at times, and it was installed for me when I purchased the computer via MacMall. The screen resolution is sat at screen: 1440 x 900 Color 32 BPP. Is this the desirable setting? I have not change it, as I'm wary to experiment too much with Windows XP on the Mac.

If you're using an LCD, the optimal resolution is what ever the native (usually advertised) resolution is of the LCD. Anything lower and things may be blurry. It cannot go higher.

How do you change the Screen Resolution?

I can not figure out how to change the resolution on my screen. Everything is much smaller than what i would like and would like to enlarge everything. There is a simple way of doing this with a PC but i have not been able to figure it out on a macbook pro.

Go to System Preferences (under the Apple menu) and click on the Displays pane. If your machine is set for "Best for Display" tick the "Scaled" button and mess around with the different resolutions until you find one to your liking.

when you r submitting a report to an official than the system resolution must be different,if it is not than there wont be any problem.Besically in the normal report the resolution wont be a problem , yes sometime in case of sapscript and smartform reports it may happens.I dont think there is any provision in these two kinds of report where you can set the resolution of another system.

Wallpaper
You can set a photo as wallpaper for the Lock screen or for the Home screen.
Set a photo as wallpaper:

I have the resolution on my computer set correctly. When I click on Firefox, the images are too large (wrong resolution). How do I set it for the correct resolution? I have my computer set at 1650X1080.

Ctrl + increases the size
Ctrl - decreases the size
Ctrl 0 (zero) resets to the default

I've installed an Arch Linux 64-bit guest os in Windows 7 64-bit host. And i've also installed guest additions succesfully.
Now I need to restrict X to 720x1280 (720p) screen size for screen capturing.
I've already tried few methods for resizing it:
1) Tried disabling AutoResize in VirtualBox.
2) Tried to hint the display size in global settings (VirtualBox => File => Preferences => Display), but when I enter X it fits automatically the whole window again.
3) Tried to write a configuration file in "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-monitor.conf" (as explained in Xorg wiki page), but it still doesn't work. I couldn't find my monitor Identifier name, tried several ("VBox0", "Screen0", etc...)
4) Tried to generate single Xorg conf file ("sudo Xorg -configure"), but it terminates with error: "Missing output drivers. Configuration Failed".
And also i've googled anything related to fixed size screen WITH guest additions (which I still need for shared folders), seems nobody actually asked for it.

I’m running Windows 7. I don’t think there is an inherent/native resolution higher than 1280x800. Is this right? Can I download a driver to allow me to get to a higher resolution? I’m using 1400x1050 on my older T42; this resolution is very nice. I’d like to see this on my T61. How can I do this?

Hello ryguy7272,
it seems your tft has got a primary monitor resolution: of 1280x800 only.
There´s no way to power that up, except at an external monitor.
Maybe that´s why the machine was a lot cheaper than others.
