How to set on-board graphics memory of my macbook?

I've installed Arch Linux in my macbook pro (2011 early 13inch).
I've upgraded RAM from 4G to 8G, and in OS X, this doubled graphics memory from 256MB to 512MB automatically.
However, in Arch Linux, the graphics memory is recognized only as 256MB which is original value before memory upgrading.
I wonder if I can adjust GRAM to expand it.

Hum, interesting. I have Intel HD4000 and 16GB of ram. I should have quite a lot of video ram, like 1GB.
It is very, very possible that we do have more video ram but what we are looking at is not telling us what we think it is. I was fairly sure that Intel Graphics did all it's video ram scaling stuff on it's own.

    Hi  Exports,
    1.  How to set the a  graphic ( 3 radio buttons ) in the report ?
Acutely  I  want to  fetch the record from MCHB-CLABS and MCHB-CSPEM , if the data read from MCHB-CLABS will show the green light otherwise if read from MCHB-CSPEM, it will show red light.
(e.g :  if syntax error in report  it is showing red light signal , like that how to set in report program)
    Thanking you.
    Subash

    Hi,
In your internal table declaration, include yet another field for lights..
    DATA: begin of itab,
               lights type light,
              end of itab.
    DATA: GV_LAYOUT TYPE SLIS_LAYOUT_ALV.
    GV_LAYOUT-LIGHTS_FIELDNAME = 'LIGHTS'.
Use the GV_LAYOUT in your FM to display the ALV.
    IS_LAYOUT                         = GV_LAYOUT
    If itab-lights = 1 => Error
      itab-lights = 3 => Success
      itab-lights =2 => Warning

  • Portege M400: How to change the 945GM graphics memory size?

    Hi,
Does anyone knows how can i limit the maximum and minimum graphics memory on 945GM Graphics Card (M400).
My goal is to set it FIXED to 128 so that i don't have freezes when video memory changes. It is VERY anoying and is punishing my work (Office 2007 is very eager either on video and main memory).
    Thanks,
    Filipe

    Hello Filipe
It will be interesting to know what you mean under punishing the Office 2007 work.
Anyway as far as I know on Intel graphic card (shared memory) it is not possible to fix graphic memory to some specific value (no BIOS settings and also no any setting in advanced display settings). If you want to use more RAM for graphic I recommend you to upgrade RAM.
Sorry but I dont see any other solution.

  • How to set up an iPhone as PAN for MacBook Air

I would like to know how to set up a Personal Area Network for my MacBookAir by using my iPhone.
I successfully used Bluetooth to pair the two, according to the MacAir, but the iPhone never believed it and insisted that it had found no device to pair to.
This is after it had presented the correct pairing number with the Mac.
    Thank you.

Create a folder on the external drive named "Music." Copy your /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder into the Music folder on the external drive.
Now select the iTunes folder on the external drive. Hold down the COMMAND-OPTION keys then drag the iTunes folder icon to your Desktop. This should create an alias named, "iTunes alias." Open the /Home/Music/ folder on your internal hard drive. Drag the iTunes folder to the Trash but do not Empty the Trash. Copy the alias on the Desktop into the /Home/Music/ folder. Select the alias and press RETURN to edit the name. Delete the word, "alias" so that the alias is now simply "iTunes."
Now open iTunes to verify that you are accessing your real iTunes data. If all is well you can Empty the Trash.

    Buy a new one?
Seriously, you can't upgrade a video card on a laptop, unless your a electronics whiz or something.
The Intel HD 3000 is a integrated graphics, meaning the CPU does the graphics and isn't all that great because GPU's are more powerful than CPU's apparently.
    http://www.cbscores.com/index.php?sort=ogl&order=desc
    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
The most powerful vidoe cards are in desktop machines which you can exchange, and for less money Windows tower is a better 3D gaming platform as it comes with Windows when you buy the comptuer (a $300 savings) most games are on Windows because of the less expensive and open hardware.
However!  If your into 3D gaming and need a Mac laptop, then you'll need a
2.2 Ghz 15" MacBook Pro with 1GB Radeon 6750M video card or
2.2 Ghz 17" Macbook Pro with 1GB Radeon 6750M video card.
(2.3Ghz is fine too, not all that much faster really)
This Radeon 6750M is THREE times faster than the pitiful Intel HD 3000.
The object being is you buy as much video card performance up front as you can, and play all the latest games at over 50 fps on max settings!
Then over time as new games come out and demand more hardware, you trim down the graphics in the game itself to keep the frame rate up.
Eventually though, you'll have to buy a new MacBook Pro, because you can't (reasonably) change the video card in laptops like you can with a desktop like a Windows PC tower or a MacPro.
The iMac you can't do squat with neither. Which is a shame actually.

  • How to set up TC for ethernet connections to MacBook and MacMini?

    Hi MacGurus
    Current setup:
    - ISP provided modem for incoming signal.
    - TC (1st generation from 2008) connected to ISP modem via ethernet cable (TC port: the one next to USB port with roughly an O-symbol). Is this the correct port to use?
    - Our ISP provider only supports 5 IP addresses and in our network we also have PCs/mobiles occupying IP addresses.
    - The back-up from MacBook to TC works fine through the connected ethernet cable between MacBook and one of the three ethernet (not the above mentioned O-symbol) ports on the TC.
This is what I would like to do:
    - Ethernet cables from TC to both a MacBook (from 2008) and a MacMini (from 2008), i.e not use wireless transmission
    - Switch off wireless function on TC.
    - Use the TC to provide IP addresses for both the MacBook and MacMini in order to leave the other IP addresses for the PCs/mobiles.
Is there any other information needed from me in order to help solving the problem?
Thank you very much in advance.
    Cheers/WA

Thx for quick response, below some "answers".
It helps if you spell out a few things.
    - ISP provided modem for incoming signal.
Who is the ISP? And what model is the modem provided? Is this dsl or cable or fibre or something else? *** ADSL
    - TC (1st generation from 2008) connected to ISP modem via ethernet cable (TC port: the one next to USB port with roughly an O-symbol). Is this the correct port to use?
The answer depends.. is the ISP modem also a router? Is the TC setup to bridge or route? *** Yes, the modem is also a wirelss & ethernet router. *** I do not know if the TC is bridge or route, how can I see that?
    - Our ISP provider only supports 5 IP addresses and in our network we also have PCs/mobiles occupying IP addresses.
Here is where I am getting confused actually.. Most ISP supply just 1 IP.. the router translates that single public IP to all the computer and devices on your network which run on a private IP network.
Is the ISP giving you 5 public addresses?? Are they ipv4 or ipv6? Setting up blocks of ip addresses is more a business setup.. where multiple devices need direct internet access eg servers.. without being hidden behind a NAT router.
So the more info you can give the better.
*** Sorry for confusion. It is likely that the ISP provider gives 1 IP address, and that the modem generates up to 5 IP addresses. It is most certainly only a standard private setup, no business setup.
What IP addresses are you getting now?
If you plug ethernet to the macbook and mini now.. and turn off wireless, what IP address are they getting??
If the TC is in router mode they should get 10.0.1.x IP and be able to ping and share with each other.. without needing to do anything.
*** I am now connected to the modem (wireless), as I cannot connect through the ethernet cable.

  • How can I fix this graphics problem on my Macbook Pro?

Whilst playing numerous games on my Macbook Pro, I have noticed the same problem. This causes the game to be almost unplayable and usually happens after playing the game for a while. I have had this happen on many games such as Portal 2, World of Warcraft, Team Fortress 2, Starcraft II and a few others.
I have had this problem ever since I first got my Macbook Pro, but the issue has changed slightly since. A software update a long time ago caused the problem from affecting the whole screen to just affecting the window the game was being played in.
I can sometimes fix the problem by opening the Display preferences in System Preferences and it automatically fixes itself - without me doing anything. There is another way I have found to temporarily fix the problem, however this has only worked on World of Warcraft. It involves changing the reselecting the display in the video settings and reapplying it - causes the game screen to go black for a few seconds and the issue is resolved.
The problem is that the graphics on the screen start to flicker and move about and certain sections are missed out. It's kind of like a fuzzy tear in the screen.
I have a attached an image of the worst case of this that I have had (I managed to screenshot it).
    System Specs
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro7,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.4 GHz
      Memory:          4 GB
      Chipset Model:          NVIDIA GeForce 320M

Does it do the same thing if you boot from a different disk, like your old Mac OS X install disk?  I see you're running Lion, so also try booting from the recovery partition by holding down command and r at startup.
If it can't boot from any system, it's a hardware issue.  You'll need to contact Apple for service.  If you can boot from the recovery partition, try repairing the hard drive with Disk Utility.  You may also want to try running Apple Hardware Test.

  • How can I zero out the memory on my macbook air?

I have an 11 inch mid 2011 macbook air and cannot figure out how to erase the memory so that none of the data is recoverable. I booted from the recovery HD but when I went to the erase section of the menu, the security options button and the zero out empty space option were both greyed out. How can I clean off my Mac?

You can't, and don't need to, zero an SSD in Disk Utility. Once you've erased it the data is unrecoverable.

  • How do I upgrade the graphic drivers on my macbook??

Hi, I recently downloaded a trial version of a 3D modelling software called solidThinking on my macbook. When I tried to use it, it kept quitting itself. I contacted tech-support and they said I need to upgrade the graphic drivers to osx 10.6.7. Does anyone know how I go about doing this as I don't have much technical knowledge on computers/macs. If it involves buying something new like a disc or whatever, how much will it cost me?? and is it easy to do?
    thanks!

Thanks, do I need to be connected to the internet to upgrade to snow leopard.
No. Though the registration process you can quit if you don't want to be connected while you upgrade, with a simple command-Q.
when i back up the system on my macbook, is using time machine the best way of doing it or is there something else I can use
Time Machine is good, I prefer cloning, which I also describe in the backup FAQ I link to on the upgrade FAQ above. Time Machine is handy if your backup drive is at least twice the size of the original. Cloning you can use a drive the same size.
how long does it take to upgrade?
As long as you have sufficient space, it should take no more than 2 hours for the Apple installation. Other updates may take longer if they need to be made compatible with 10.6.

  • How do I add extra flash memory to My Macbook Air Model MD223

    Hi,
I would please like to know if there is any possible way to add extra flash storage to My MacBook Air 11.6" (2012) Model MD223 with 64GB. I am using Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3
Could I please get some help?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Neelu Saraswatibhatla

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can upgrade that, but you will void the warranty. That MacBook Air requires flash storage that it's not sold everywhere, so you can purchase more flash storage at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Aura_Pro_Air_2012
You can't install a SSD with the enclosure because it doesn't fit

  • Qosmio F750 - How to change dedicated graphics memory to 2GB...

In order to get my Qosmio F750 ready to run some games, I have updated all of the drivers on via the toshiba website and NVIDIA website while also downloading the relevant software. This includes updating the BIOS to version 2.00.
According to the [laptop specifications given on the Toshiba website|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/qosmio/f750/pqf75a-02y00q/specifications],
I should have the following allocation of memory to the graphics:
    "4095MB Total: 2048MB dedicated memory + 2047MB shared memory"
When I go to check the Performance Information and Tools window, I get shown the following information:
    Graphics
Display adapter type Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Total available graphics memory: 1696 MB
    Dedicated graphics memory: 64 MB
    Dedicated system memory: 0 MB
    Shared system memory: 1632 MB
    Display adapter driver version: 9.18.13.1422
    Primary monitor resolution: 1366x768
    DirectX version: DirectX 10
Of course, when I look carefully at the laptop specifications, I realize that the current graphics memory allocation corresponds to the Power Saving Mode i.e. graphics allocation when running on battery power
Normally this would be fine, however, I do not see any change in the info displayed even when I am running on AC power.
I have checked all of my power settings but even when everything is set to 'performance mode', the information displayed stays the same.
I try to look in the system bios to manually change the graphics allocation but no such option exists. Rather all options are set to performance mode...
So my ultimate question is, *How can I change the graphics memory allocation to performance mode as indicated in the system specifications?*
Is this something that occurs automatically without changing the displayed info?
Is there a driver that I have forgotten to update? Has a driver update caused this?
Has a BIOS update caused this?
On a side note, when checking the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I the directx version is displayed as version 11. So I thought the issue was with the displayed information. But even on the Diagnostic Tool gives me the same info.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me out with this.
    Thanks,
    Omair

Okay I think I get it now.
The Performance Info and Tools Window only shows the information on the Intel HD Graphics 3000.
When the specs sheet says power saving mode it means graphics using only the Intel HD Graphics.
However because of Optimus, the notebook can use either the Intel GRaphics card or the nVidia GPU.
The performance mode in the specs sheet refers to when the notebook is using the nVidia GPU.
The integrated gpu and the dedicated gpu do not run at the same time but Optimus switched between the 2 of them whenever the situation requires it. Whatever it switches to decides which 'mode' the notebook is using. The memory allocations for these 'modes' will match those of the specs sheet.
But any information about the graphics memory will not change as it only displays the info on the integrated gpu.
Well, I can finally understand what the previous posts were referring to and why the posts themselves were pretty short (there wasn't any problem needing to be fixed!).
Thank you for all of your help Randy, Akuma and PauPau

But as to why grub2 won't work, idk, I'm staying away from this over-engineered piece of... something... that just happens to also include a bootloader . Could be your syntax is wrong. Have you already tried 1440x900@24 or 1440x900-24 or simply 1440x900 or 0x037f?
    Edit: Gah, GRUB_GFXMODE isn't for grub.cfg, it's for /etc/default/grub. If you're configuring grub.cfg directly, it's 'set gfxmode=1440x900x24'. See what I mean with over-engineered piece of something?

  • The Intel Mac Mini uses on-board graphics... how good are they?

I'm seriously considering getting an Intel Mac Mini and telling all my friends to get one, too. However, there's one problem - the graphics.
The whole reason I'd want an Intel Mac would be so that I could dual-boot into Windows Vista (when it comes out) in order to play the latest games.
How suitable are the on-board graphics for gaming? Would it be able to play Halo and Command & Conquer Generals well?
Basically, I want to know if it's the equivalent of a 64 MB graphics chip in speed, or if having on-board graphics makes it a bit slower. Does it have hardware acceleration? And is it suitable for smooth casual gaming at an average resolution?

I am very uneasy about finding integrated graphics in the new mini too.
When I first saw the new Mini website on Apple's website I was so excited "intel processor", "4 usb ports", "faster drives" but something was missing from the website; the "graphics" sub-category. I instantly wondering what was up with that, thinking right away obviously the graphics weren't good enough to brag about. I was right. On Apple's MacMini website, on the "Intel Core" sub-category page, bottom of the page, right side there's a weee comment on integrated graphics, "oh." was my only thought.
It's really disappointing to see integrated graphics in the new Mini. That AND the increase in price. The price of the Intel iMac dropped by $100 when it got introduced, but the Intel Mini's price goes up $100 upon introduction, further closing the price between the iMac and the Mini and making the iMac looking more and more attractice in terms of features-performance-price-value. I better run out and buy a Intel iMac before Apple removes the miniDVI-out port (which I'm predicting it will be removed in the next iMac revision)
Hopefully some Intel MacMini review tests in the coming weeks will reveal better-than-expected graphics performance.
I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this but... doesn't anyone here see that Apple has given us a preview of what's to come by putting integrated graphics in the new Intel MacMini? -- Anyone? I'll tell you -- we're going to see the exact same integrated graphics in the upcoming Intel iBooks, that's what.
