How to set Photoshop to show actual print size?

When I go to View Print Size the resultant image is smaller than the actual print size.  How do I set PS to show the actual size on my monitor?

Measure the physical horizontal viewing length of your monitor. 11.25 inches for example.
Then the horizontal resolution your monitor is set to. 1280 pixels as an example.  divide 1280 by 11.25 to get 113.77 pixels per inch, your screen resolution. Round it out to 114.
In Photoshop: Edit menu > Preferences > Units and Rulers, and in New Document Presets, change the Screen Resolution to 114.  Click OK, restart Photoshop.
After that when you use View > Print Size, your onscreen rulers will match up to a physical ruler and your documents will be at the physical print size set in your document's dimensions under Image > Image Size.

  • How to set Canvas to show actual playback area size

I have sequences that have source video footage in different aspect ratios (from VHS, Mini-DV etc.), however in FCE Easy Setup I have the output set to NTSC 720x480. Some of the sequences have video footage solely from the Mini-DV that is in a wide screen format (I believe 16:9), however that exact ratio is not important to this question.
Question: I need to re-scale and pan the Mini-DV video so as to better relate to the output 720x480 format. Currently in either the Canvas or Viewer only the fully wide screen Mini-DV view is displayed. Is there a way to also display the 720x480 output window so as to be able to position the wider and shorter Mini-DV video?

Thanks Skalicki that works. I am confused on one item though. I had initially created a sequence with the Mini-DV video inserted where the Canvas and Viewer only showed the widened view (not overlaid with the 720x480 output limits showing). I followed your advise then copy/pasted the same footage into the newly created sequence and I now get the correct width video with bars at top and bottom that I can easily correct using the Motion settings. Do you know why the initial sequence would not include the 720x480 output? Thanks for any thoughts.

  • Photoshop CS can't show the actual print size & other bugs...

Although I have set in preferences my display's exact dots per inch (which is 92.72) , the rulers in mm and the real print size of the document, when I click on view print size, the document is displayed much smaller than the actual size! I have also set the printer (a virtual pdf printer) in A1 to avoid a possible scaling of the print size. So the software has all the required information, but still it can't figure out the actual print size!  What do you guys think about that? I personally think that the developers couldn't figure out how to do a simple task either!  Even though I work on photoshop CS occasionally, I have found too many bugs to mention.  The most frustrating one, is that it suddenly stops responding to key shortcuts! Then I have to select everything from the menus or save, exit, restart and re-open the documents -now imagine being in the middle of a complicated task...  Another huge annoying bug: When I "Select All" in order to copy a layer, if that layer happens to have some parts surrounded with transparency, Photoshop destroys their position and the image overall, by arbitrarily centering those parts in the pasted frame!!!  Also, too often everything disappears temporarily if I pause for a second while I drag a selection rectangle etc. They haven't even made the cursor capable to move in a gray background without being invisible!  So much for a "professional" expensive application!  Note I have installed the available patches for this version. I know it's a bit old but as I said, I work occasionally and I don't wish to pay hundreds of euros almost each year for a new version upgrade while I'm not even happy with the previous one!   BTW, on this thread editor when I hit "enter" to start a new line, the cursor goes at the beginning of the document!  Now, are the Adobe's web developers drunk or what?  Sorry, I cannot stand too much of stupidity right now...

The horizontal displayed size is only about 21cm instead of 28,9.

Hm, your readings seem to imply Photoshop thinks your screen resolution is just about 128 pixels / inch.  Not sure where it might be getting that number.
For what it's worth, on my Vista system I mocked up an image as you described above:  An image of 3614 x 3196 pixels at 317.632 pixels per inch.  My monitors display 100 ppi, and that's what I have set in the Edit - Preferences - Units & Rulers.
When I selected the zoom tool and clicked the [ Print Size ] button it zoomed to 31.48% and when I measured the display width with the ruler it came up 11-3/8", which is just about right.
HOWEVER...  When I right-clicked the image with the zoom tool active, and chose Print Size it came up 8-1/4", which just happens to be about the same amount smaller than proper size that you're seeing.  Sounds like a bona fide buglet in Photoshop CS.
I repeated the performance with Photoshop CS2.  It works fine in CS2 - the [ Print Size ] button and right-click context menu entry both put the image up the same (proper) size.

I also don't understand, but if you mean how to display only files with a certain extension in your JFileChooser then you should have a look at the JFileChooser API:

  • Viewing actual print size

Is there a way in PSE5 for windows or in the latest PSE Mac version to precisely view on the computer the actual print size which I intend to make of an image (for example 16 x 20 inches or larger )so that I can see what it will look like hanging on my wall?

    Enid,
1.What you see on the monitor does not correlate precisely with what the print quality will turn out to be, as the pixel density requirements for each medium may differ for a good result. If you go to www.pbase.com and open a gallery at random, then save a picture file on your computer, open it, it will look great at 72px/in (the downloaded number)on the monitor, but it will be pixellated, most likely, at that resolution on paper.
2.For printing, it is desirable to have 240-300px/in.
3.If you open an unaltered picture downloaded from your camera card, then go to Image>resize>image size, you will see values for width, height, and pixels/in. Now if you increase the pixels value and do nothing else, the size of the picture will contract. This is called an inverse relation.
4.This concept is not easy to grasp. On another forum this issue surfaced yesterday, have a look:
    http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37253
5.A simplistic way to look at this is to think of a hair net. As one stretches it, there is degradation of the detailed structure.

Re: C4599, wireless Error-Printing, unable to 'communicate' with the device ???
Sure we can set a static IP (actually we are going to reserve an IP address - even better).  But first, please mark the post that helped you solve the problem as "Accepted Solution".
Connect to the wireless router by typing the IP address of the wireless router in the address field of your browser, then click Enter. 192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of the wireless router. The wireless router will prompt you to enter the user name of 'admin' and the password. The default password is 'password'.
See the procedure on page 8-16 of this < http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/forums/replypage/board-id/Networking/message-id/NetGear%20'RangeMax'%20... > document to reserve and IP address for your printer.
You will need the MAC address of your printer (this is on the Network Config Page you printed from the front panel of the printer).
(Although I am employed by HP, I am speaking for myself and not for HP)

    Thank you for the followup.
Just got back to this thread after trying what you suggested re new install program.
Months ago, when originally tried to install new C4500, spent weekend, literally 4hrs on a Sat and 4hrs the following Sun with HP support on the phone trying to get C4500 wireless to work.
Finally downloaded a new install program and after installing that and making other numerous setup adjustments, which I cant remember, it worked (the only saving grace for the time spent) for a while.
But for the sake of trying, we did put in the original disk, just like page 4 (or our original paper manual) instructed (per your last post).
The disk loaded and the program did its thing and then get...
"A newer version fo this software is alredy installe on you HP HPPhotosmare C4500 series computer."
    So clicked 'finish'.
    Then loaded...
    PS_AIO_04_C4500_USW_Full_Win_enu_120_210_NB.exe
...which we thougth was the new installer program which we downloaded those months ago (same one you suggested).
    Started the '4 step' process.
Got to 'step 3' and it connected to printer with usb cable.
Along the way got message from 'network diagnostics'...
"The PC and the printer are connected to different networks(192.168.1.0 and 192.168.0.0).  They must be connected to the same network.  This can happen when you use the manufacturer's default network name (SSID) and another nearby network is using the same name.
The gateway address of the printer does not match the network to which the printer is connected. Reconfigure the setting on your printer to match."
Tried changing ip addresses at network settings, but no help.
    Clicked on disregard and proceed.
    Started 'Network diagnostics' and got...
    HPPhotoshopEssential 'install' bar window.
Either way, disk or new install program, get pop-up window with message...
'The feature you are tryong to use is on a CD-ROM or tother removabledisk that inot available. Insert the 'HPPyotosmartEsesential' disk and click OK."
Moved HP .msi and .cab files to same directory with ...NB.exe file.
Install went ahead, and then needed 'setup.exe'.
Opened setup.exe at disk and install went ahead.
Installed latext updated 'HP Solution Center'.
It showed both the C4500usb and wireless, but still wireless not 'connected'.
Ran diagnostics and got same 'diagnostics' message as above.
    Made sure hardware enabled etc.
    How to fix ?
Thanks again for your help !

    Hi all,
We can set the default value for print options, just like Logical destination、numbers of messages、print immediately and so on, so where we should to maintain these default?

    Hi Sandy,
This can be done by an abaper by making changes in the driver program. The Driver program feeds all the data which u have mentioned for printing.
if the driver program is standard. copy to an z type and make modification on printer settings on the driver program code.
this will surely solve the issue.

  • Can't see actual print size.

Is there really not a way to get Aperture to show you the size of the print in the print dialog?
Seems simple enough, but if you Choose Custom Image size and uncheck the silly Crop to Fill and Rotate to Fit defaults, then your picture is scaled to the fit WITHIN a box the size you have specified. Either the width or the height will be somewhat smaller than the size you have specified. (Unless your box is exactly the same aspect ratio as the (still secret) aspect ratio of the original image).
The only way I can find the size is to add up the dimensions specified in the Margins dialog and then add to the box size and see which dimension doesn't add-up.
Can't Aperture display the size of the image it's about to print?
...or at least have an option to set the ruler zero marks to the edge of the image?
Aperture is running on a supercomputer and I need to do the actual size calculation in my head? What am I missing?

    See if this helps!!

  • How to set an empty JPanel to maximum size?

    Hello!
    I created class extends JFrame.
I want this maximum size so I set the minimum size as screen size:
    setSize(screenWidth,screenHeight);
Now I added an empty JPanel,
and I want it to be the maximum size.
But the problem is - I don't know what is the maximum of the current size without the frame borders. I mean, after set it to maximum size (I don't know how),
I could get the width and height of the current size without the frame borders by:
    frame.getContentPane().getSize();
In conclusion, I want to set an empty JPanel to maximum size and get JFrame size without the frame borders.
    Thanks!

You cannot make a component break out of its container, that's for sure. So assuming you want the component to grow to the maximum size inside its container, that should already happen when you add the component to the CENTER position of the JFrame's container. By default it has a BorderLayout.
