  • I don't know how to set up a iChat account!

Well.. I don't know how to set up an account on my MacBook ?
I am confused about these fields:
    Description, username and password.
Should account should I use? I don't understand all these computer language like AOL and stuff.. I've tried to use my hotmail acc but that didn't worked.

    Hi,
iChat is a Messaging app that can join AIM or Jabber services up to iChat 5
At iChat 6 and Messages (in Mountain Lion ) you can also use an Yahoo ID.
Apple IDs ending in @mac.com and @me.com and @icloud.com are also Valid AIM Screen Names.
However the @me.com an @icloud.com ones will only work in iChat 6 and Messages  (Apple changed the way those version allow AIM to Access the Password to the exclusion of earlier versions)
AIM is based an a central server where all names are registered or kept.
Jabber works on  many Jabber servers that are then interlinked.
This allows both Public and Private servers.
Public ones are where anyone can register a Name/ID with the sever.
Private ones tend to be that can only be joined if your belong to the required group of people such as a work/office set up.
Both Google and Facebook run Jabber servers that then allow people to use their IDs with Google or Facebook.
The Boxes in your Picture do various things
The Description adds a Title to the Buddy List
The Username is the Screen Name form AIM or the Jabber ID you are using.
The Password is the one you used when your registered the Screen Name or ID
    Titled Buddy list
So, you need either Name that works with AIM or a ID that works with Jabber.

    Hi,
After creating a  Screen Name or User ID with the relevant service you can enter this in iChat
With iChat Open go to the iChat Menu > Preferences >Accounts
Use the + button at the bottom of the List
Chose from the top item whether the Account (Screen Name) you are adding is going to be AIM, (inlcuding Apple variants), Jabber (including Google variant) or in iChat 6 a Yahoo account.
    Add details as required.
    Click Done.

    HI,
You can create and add another Screen Name to iChat.
From iChat 4 you can have as many AIM Logins and Jabber Logins as you want.
"AIM" in this case includes the Apple IDs (@mac.com and @me.com ending names) that also work as Valid AIM Screen Names as well as AIM registered Names.
"Jabber Names" includes using Google Mail IDs and Facebook IDs as well as any registration with any other Jabber server.
If you are not happy with the one you have you can delete and stop using it.
Both Adding and Deleting are done in iChat > Preferences> Accounts.
Highlight an Account/Name and then the minus button to delete.
Using the Plus button show you the Add Screen.

  • How do I create an IChat account with 10.6.8?

I keep getting routed to a page that says:
    Symptoms
iChat's "Get an iChat account" no longer works in Mac OS X v10.6.x.
    Products Affected
    iChat, Mac OS X 10.6
    Resolution
This feature has been replaced by iCloud, which requires OS X Lion v10.7.2 or later.
With OS X Lion, you can use an iCloud account ending in @me.com or @mac.com as your iChat account. A free AIM account can be acquired (or configured) separately at the AIM website.
I'm clearly don't know much but just wanted to set up an IChat account and don't know what to do now. My macbook says it doesn't need any updates? Can someone help me?
    Thanks so much

    Hi,
Alternatively Apple IDs that end with @mac.com can be used as Valid AIM names in iChat.
You can still register for these Here
The Password you use should be 16 characters or Less (AIM Server limits)
You also need to link it to an Existing email address.
This cannot be one that you already use with another Apple ID
(If you only have one Email Address you use it is simpler to use the AIM registration method).

  • How do set up your hotmail account on a mac book pro? I have it set up so I get mail but on my hotmail account I have lot of separate folders. They don't show up on my mac, they do on my iPhone and iPad.

How do set up your hotmail account on a mac book pro properly? I have it set up so I get mail but on my hotmail account I have lot of separate folders to save messages in(for example :- bank, skyp, work, Facebook, apple, ect...). They don't show up on my mac. I also have an iPhone and iPad, there is no issue here when I set those up. I automatically got my separate folders. Anybody have any idea or encountered the same problem?

    Cheers,
I'm not gonna lie, I actually have no idea if its pop or imap. Do you know where you can check and if it can be changed?
Hotmail on a Mac is POP3 only, you will only get the basic folders (inbox, sent, trash etc) and it will not sync with other devices.
And now I post this I see other replies, so this is redundant. !!

  • How to set up an email account on iPad3 -

a question on how to set up an email account on iPad3 - In Settings - Mail - it allows me to choose a name and submit but then it says "can't open mail, try later". I use my apple iD  to open iCloud.com on my computer, but can't access mail from there either.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Can someone explain how to set up an administrator account so that I can have my phone and my daughters have separate apple ids?

I mistakenly updated to the latest version of iOS and ever since then I can send messages to my daughter and I receive them but she does not.  She has an iphone also and her phone is under my apple id also.  Someone told me that I could set up an Administrator Account so that she can still be under my account but she has her own ID and that will fix the problem with text/imessages.  I can't find anything on the website that explains how to do that.  Can someone explain that to me?
    Thanks!

I'm still not clear on what you are trying to accomplish. If you have an iPhone and she does as well you should have your own Apple IDs.
If you want to pay for any purchases she makes with her phone as far as apps/music goes than that is what Family sharing is for.
In my case my Wife and I are setup for family sharing. When she purchases music/apps it charges my credit card. This setup also allows me to share my past music/app purchases with her and vice versa.

  • How to set up an email account on one only one machine

I need to be able to set up an email account on only one machine. I know I can disable the account on other machines, but that's not what I want. I don't want the email account to appear in the account list on my other machines, even if it is disabled. I don't want my other machines to know about the account at all.
How do I set up my accounts so that the email account shows up on only one machine?

Perhaps some pictures would help explain.
If in Mail I right click the account I get this window.
I want to remove the account "B" from this computer. I select it and click "-" and am taken to "Internet Accounts" in "Settings"
    There I see this.
If I now click "-", I get the following choices.
Now, I don't want "Remove From All", as I would like to keep the account on my other computer. So I click "Turn Off Account" which results in this
The account is inactive, but is still in the list of accounts. I want to remove it from the list of accounts (without removing it from the other computer.)
    How do I do that?
