How to set up AA3 on a mac with Boot Camp (radio production guys please take note!)

Hi,
I'm the imaging director for some of the Providence Citadel Stations and I want to move all of my production over from PC to a spiffy new iMac.
I know I can run AA3 through boot camp, but as of yet haven't purchased anything until I find out the best way to do this.
I'd love all of your suggestions on what to get and what set up is working for you. I'm done with PC's so don't even bother suggestion it!
My plan is to get an iMac, run boot camp and run windows XP (still available for $89 OEM version from new egg) and move all of my files over using a very large external drive.
Am I crazy?
By the way, the reason I'm doing this is that my current PC is starting to show signs of not being fast enough for AA3 and the plugins, etc.
Okay...I await your advice!
Thanks in advance.

Well, certainly your computer choice is personal - no issue with that - but to claim that a Mac is going to outperform a PC at a comparable price point is something that I don't believe can be verified.
I also build and upgrade my own systems and don't see any particular cost saving over an off-the-shelf model; I just do it because I can design the system exactly the way I want.
Boot Camp is an...interesting...idea but seems overly complicated. Why would anyone want to be required to boot back and forth between operating systems is beyond me, but that's a personal choice.
It just seems vastly more efficient to stick with Microsoft if you love Audition as much as you do. But, if you prefer the Mac OS, Pro Tools LE for the Mac and Apple's Logic are fantastic choices for recording and editing audio.
I'm not really trying to get you to consider PC over Mac but you've made a performance claim that I think has no basis in fact.
Like I said earlier: I run multiple audio editing programs on my PC (AA 3.0 among them) and these programs fly on my PC.

Your OSX psrtition and your Boot Camp partition are completely separate. You can reinstall Mavericks without affecting Boot Camp and you can redo Boot Camp without affacting OSX.

  • Need to Re-install Windows on Mac with boot camp

I purchased a Mac Pro from someone about 6 months ago that already had a 2nd drive with Boot Camp and Windows XP Pro running on it. Today for the first time when I booted into Windows, I got an error message saying that I "may be a victim of software counterfiting" and that my version of Windows is not an authorized version in my region.
I have an a genuine Windows XP Pro disc with seriel that I want to now re-install over the bad version. The problem is when I try to run the CD for install, I get an error message stating that I cannot install from the CD because the version of Windows I am currently running is newer than that on the CD.
So my question is, how do I uninstall the bad version of Windows and re-install the version off the CD? I know I will lose my files and programs but everything is backed up and I will reinstall everything when I get back up and running.
    Thanks for the help!!

You can format from Windows CD if that is what you mean by "windows side."
Updates are usually done while boot in the OS you want to 'upgrade' while custom is only done booted from other media.
With a Mac Pro you could easily install in many different ways than if you only had a laptop or imac.
But you can't "pick yourself up by your own bootstraps."
I don't even like upgrade of SL while booted in Mac OS.
If it was my Mac I'd install Windows 7 and make better use of your hardware and the performance afforded.

  • How do i access osx after using windows with boot camp

I just got a new macbook pro and i have never used boot camp.  well i loaded windows 7 using boot camp and now I dont know how to get back to osX.  Can anyone help?

    lathscope,
do you notice a little triangle on the bottom right corner of your screen - near the clock (in Windows)? If you do so, click on it. Shoud appear an option to restart the computer in Mac OS.
Other option is to go to the Control Panel. There is a icon for Bootcamp there.

  • How to Make the Win7 Enterprise ISO work with Boot Camp?

    Hey...
So I've acquired a new MBA. I didn't really want to considering all the issues out there (of which so far the volume fluctuation issues applies to me as well), but on Friday I need to bring some kind of laptop with me on a trip to record a song for a wedding next month. And for that, to make it worse, I need Winblows.
So I got the Windows 7 Enterprise evaluation ISO. I let Boot Camp modify it and write it to a USB stick.
But when I boot into the thing, I never get to actually install Windows, because I get "Install Windows": "Windows Setup encountered an internal error while loading or searching for an unattend answer file."
    What to do??!?!!

    Hmmm... That's strange!
Seems there are some differences between DVDs for Windows 7 that the Apple tool doesn't know how to handle?
The image I used to install with was the "7600.16385.090713-1255_x64fre_client_en-us_OEM_Ultimate-GRMCULXFREO_EN_DVD.iso " one — I believe I downloaded this from Microsoft at some point when they had it up for developer trials or something?
The MD5 sum of that image is dad9f7a0b4d5d928a6a67ba6cd896350. You can check yours in Terminal by writing "md5 <path to your image file>".
Perhaps if yours is different, you can find that other image online somewhere.

  • How to restore an external hard drive formatted with boot camp assistant?

    Hi,
I was just about to set up boot camp using the assistant and it was makign the disk image on an external drive. I didn't realise I had two drives plugged in and selected the wrong one! I cancelled it as soon as I realised, but it had already reformatted the drive.
Any chance that a recover software will be able to get it back? what do you think?
    thanks in advance

    hey,
Actually I've just finished running DIsk Drill and have recovered almost everything (500GB worth). The only thing is every file is just numbered with no directory structure (ie. File0000001.jpg, File00000002.mov, etc etc)
so I've got the data, but also about 10000000 files to sort through!

  • Want to install Windows 7 to my Mac with Boot Camp, but my laptop's monitor is broken. How could I start the Windows installation through an HDMI video source?

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to start a bootcamp installation of Windows 7 though an external monitor using HDMI. Is there anyway to have the installation screen show up on the external monitor? I get stuck at the beginning of the installation due to not being able to use my laptop's primary screen.
    Thanks for the help!

Unless you have a 2010 Mini Server model, your Mini has a built-in Optical drive (Mac mini (Mid 2010) - Technical Specifications).
Can you read the Windows Installer media when booted on OSX? Your DVD media may be corrupt.
If your Optical Drive is functional AND the Windows DVD is readable in OSX Finder, then your installer should work. You will need a USB2  for BC drivers as well.

  • A few problems with windows 7 on my mac with boot camp

    1) how do i use all the functions of my mac in the windows os environment? like two finger scrolling, isight, two finger right click, and my speakers?
    2) when i boot up windows the time is totally wrong is there any way i can keep this from happening everytime i start windows?
ive read that i should install the drivers that are on the OS X disk but when i put that in it just spits it back out without recognizing it, also i cant right click so keep that in mind.

To right-click, just use two fingers instead of one.  I'd like to know how to do two-finger scrolling, too.

  • Installed Windows on Mac with Boot Camp and did something HORRIBLY WRONG

Please please PLEASE tell me someone can help me!!
I tried installing Windows XP Pro on my MacBook today, I tried following the instructions but none of the windows popped up like they showed in the instructions. When the Windows Setup (blue screen) popped up, I selected Partition 3: BOOTCAMP to install it on. Then everything installed fine, but I can NOT get out of Windows now at all. I've tried restarting it, logging off, turning it off and back on, and holding the option button and NOTHING is working. Nothing that was on my Mac is in the Windows, and I have no idea at all what to do.
Please, tell me someone can help me undo this!! Thank you so much!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH
I put in disk 2 as a last resort and tried rebooting it again, AND IT WORKED!!!
I'm taking windows off right away, i am NOT risking that again!!
Or not mess with it at all, either way THANK YOU!!!

  • HT201612 how to use ctrl+alt+delete to restart with boot camp

how to use (ctrl+alt+delete) to restart?

You press all the keys (ctrl+alt+delete) at once
    Some information
In a personal computer with the Windows operating system, Ctrl-Alt-Delete is the combination of keyboard keys that the computer user can press at the same time to terminate an application task or to reboot the operating system (have it shut down and restart itself). In Windows 95 or any later systems, Ctrl-Alt-Delete brings up a window that allows a user to see the status of all currently running programs and to terminate any of them, and also offers the options of shutting down, restarting, and so on (the specific options vary slightly with the particular version of windows). In Windows 95 or 98, if Ctrl-Alt-Delete is pressed a second time or twice in a row quickly, the operating system closes all programs that are running and then restarts.
When the operating system seems to hang suspended while waiting for an application program to continue, a user is also left without a way to regain control of the system. The Ctrl-Alt-Delete key combination allows the user to terminate the "hung" application and, if that doesn't work, to reboot the system. The system can also be restarted using the mouse to select Start-->Turn Off the System-->Restart. However, Ctrl-Alt-Delete sometimes works when the menu option doesn't.

  • Installing Windows On Multiple Macs With Boot Camp?

I have an iMac, White MacBook, MacBook Pro (Late 2006) and very soon I should be getting a Unibody MacBook Pro. My question is, I plan on buying Windows 7 for Boot Camp, and I was wondering if the install limit applies even with Boot Camp. I read that Windows only installs on one computer at a time, and I was curious that if with Boot Camp, it still holds true. Any help would be appreciated.

For now, Windows 7 is free RC download. And there are hints in the EULA that a Family Pack could be in the offering.
I usually buy System Builder, and you can buy Vista SP1 with $9.95 or free upgrade to 7 - retail, Ultimate to Ultimate.

How do I sync iCal on my mac with OS 8 devices

    Hi jgiolma,
Since you do not mention what version of the Mac operating system you are running on your MacBook Pro it is a little hard to answer your question. For computers running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later one way to sync your calendars would be to use iCloud. See this article for minimum system requirements for iCloud -

  • How to set up web root on mac os 10 cf 7 install?

I've finally gotten ColdFusion 7 up and running with Jrun 4
on a Mac running 10.4. Now I have a silly problem. Going to
    http://localhost:8080 doesn't show
    a web site. Neither does
    http://localhost/. I know I'm
supposed to define the web root, but how do you do that on a mac?
I'm using the built-in server (not Apache) and therefore there
doesn't seem to be a "conf" directory to go into to set the
virtuals up. Also, on a mac, where do I find the hosts file???
Thanks. Sorry if this was answered before, but I've been
searching for an hour now and nothing comes up.

Just a quick "bump" to see if anyone knows the final step in
setting up a site with CF 7 on a Mac. I need to know the equivalent
of the Apache VirtualHost and DocumentRoot settings for a
"Built-In" JRun4 configuration. Where are these settings? How do I
manipulate them? Can I set up multiple sites this way?
    Thanks.
