How to set up email, add apps, use web through wireless modem?

Hi,
Have a new 8310. OS is v4.5.0.37 Platform 2.7.0.55I'm in Australia, currently with Telstra but in the process of changing.
I have not purchased a data plan for the phone. I have a wireless modem for my desktop & wondering if I can use this to connect my phone to the web without purchasing data?
Do I need a data plan to send emails? Can I use my existing online email acct(yahoo), or do I need to set up a special one for the phone? If so, please explain where/how? If not, what other info do I need to configure the existing one? It seems I need a PIN as well as e-addy & password(& assuming it's the yahoo password?)
TIA
Solved!

Do I need a data plan to send emails?
Yes. Basically, to do anything other than use the phone, you need a data plan. Period.

Yes...see the above reading material.
loosie wrote:

No...not required.

PIN...hmmm...there are many definitions for that acronym in the BB world. The most usual one is a unique identifier, much like an IP address or phone number, that is assigned at the factory to your BB. It is used to register your BB for various services (yes, via a data plan) so as to identify your BB on the network.
I hope that helps.

    I cannot figure out how to set my apple id to use: itunes (two of accounts), apps store and itunes store. How do I make one password that will be recognized by all these devices? My apple id is constantly not working.

    Hi Lrwill,
    If the apps that are on your son's iPad were purchased under his Dad's Apple ID, then signing your Apple ID onto the iPad will not help you with updating those apps.
    Also, if the iPad was sync'd with his Dad's iTunes library, then hooking it up to your computer/iTunes library, will require you to reset the iPad, and everything that was loaded under the other Library and Apple ID will be wiped out.
    Can you provide a little more info about what was set up under which Apple ID and what iTunes library the iPad was sync'd with?
    Cheers,

  • How to set the full screen mode using setClip method

    hi all,
    how to set the full screen mode using setClip in that softkeys should not be used insteat on that need to create a own softkeys using commands.
    thanks & regards
    Bala.

    In CS5 there are changes made to how the screen mode is reported. In CS3-CS5 the screen mode has a corresponding number. So for instance if the ScreenMode is set to "Preview Off" and you ask indesign CS3 or CS4 to display the screen mode, it will report "1936552047", while in CS5 it will report "PREVIEW_OFF".
    try executing this simple command in respectively CS3, CS4 and CS5 and you will see what I am talking about:
    alert(app.activeWindow.screenMode);
    there is no difference if you do:
    alert(app.activeDocument.layoutWindows[0].screenMode);
    The CS5 solution is rather awkward to work with, unless I am missing something? PREVIEW_OFF is not a string, nor is it a number.
    Example -  doing:
    myScreenMode=app.activeDocument.layoutWindows[0].screenMode;
    and then trying to reset screenMode by something like:
    app.activeDocument.layoutWindows[0].screenMode= myScreenMode
    does not work in CS5 of course. It will throw an error. Neither will this line work:
    app.activeDocument.layoutWindows[0].screenMode=ScreenModeOptions.myScreenMode;
    Any way of working around this?

    Actually i tried with create message its not happening...
    Plz let me know .. its urgent ...
    Regards,
    Satish

    Hello Satish,
    If you want to send a friendly message to your users, then you can do this by building an ABAP program that calls function module SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 . You can then insert this ABAP program in your process chain (using the ABAP program process type) or as a second step in your background job. With this technique, you can send an email to SAP users, or to external users (e..g Outlook email addresses)
    Here's  a sample ABAP code:
      data: ls_docdata type SODOCCHGI1,
            lt_objcont type table of solisti1,
            lt_receivers type table of somlreci1,
            ls_objcont type solisti1,
            ls_receivers type somlreci1,
            ls_user type syuname.
    * Fill these variables with subject and msg lines that you need.
    data: MAIL_SUBJECT     TYPE STRING,
    MSG_LINE1     TYPE STRING,
    MSG_LINE2     TYPE STRING,
    MSG_LINE3     TYPE STRING,
    MSG_LINE4     TYPE STRING,
    MSG_LINE5     TYPE STRING.
      ls_docdata-obj_descr = mail_subject.
      ls_objcont-line = msg_line1.
      append ls_objcont to lt_objcont.
      ls_objcont-line = msg_line2.
      append ls_objcont to lt_objcont.
      ls_objcont-line = msg_line3.
      append ls_objcont to lt_objcont.
      ls_objcont-line = msg_line4.
      append ls_objcont to lt_objcont.
      ls_objcont-line = msg_line5.
      append ls_objcont to lt_objcont.
    * t_userlist contains the list of users to whom th email will be sent.
      loop at t_userlist into ls_user.
        ls_receivers-receiver = ls_user.
    "Change the type  here if email is for outlook users, See documentation
    " of function module in SE37
        ls_receivers-rec_type = 'B'.
        ls_receivers-express = 'X'.
        append ls_receivers to lt_receivers.
      endloop.
      CALL FUNCTION 'SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1'
        EXPORTING
          document_data                   = ls_docdata
        tables
         OBJECT_CONTENT                   = lt_objcont
         receivers                        = lt_receivers
       EXCEPTIONS
         TOO_MANY_RECEIVERS               = 1
         DOCUMENT_NOT_SENT                = 2
         DOCUMENT_TYPE_NOT_EXIST          = 3
         OPERATION_NO_AUTHORIZATION       = 4
         PARAMETER_ERROR                  = 5
         X_ERROR                          = 6
         ENQUEUE_ERROR                    = 7
         OTHERS                           = 8
    You can test out the function module first in SE37 (just put the name of the FM and click execute). Testing it in SE37 will help you get your parameters right.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to set-up my home intranet using 2 different ISP's ?

    I have had so much trouble recently with my main (8 years now!) internet provider "ABC" (not the real name) Cable Modem here in Belgium that I made the decision to pay another bunch each month to have a second ISP for my home and home office. "XYZ" (also not the real name) will start on Monday 26 July. It is a DSL line, linked to my TV and fixed telephone. Great, except I'm not really sure how to set-up this 2nd ISP.
    First, I want this 2nd ISP to (at least for now) be an emergency backup. So if ABC shuts down again (as it has done a lot recently, but no technician can come until 30 July- poor service there!) - I want to immediately be able to use the XYZ server.
    OK the XYZ has a kinda built-in router in that the DSL Modem has built-in WiFi and also 2 cable to computer out ports. I believe I can first just configure the WiFi: Apparently I have to attach my MBP-13" via cable in order to change / add a security code; maybe change the name of the WiFi from its default "XYZ-WiFi" (not the real name) to something I want like SteveXYZ and then add a security protection code.
    But how to configure my eMail using MAIL? And can I still keep getting my eMail from my main "[email protected]" (not the real address) even when connected via XYZ? And what about SENDING from ABC when connected via the server XYZ?
    Also: I currently have my ABC Modem going to a 4-port D-Link DI604 Router. From there, one cable goes to my MacBook Pro-13"; one to the Apple LaserWriter 12/640PS (great printer- 13 years old and still super); one to my Canon MP640 and one upstairs to another router: D-Link DIR-635 wired and wireless. From there, one cable goes to my wife's eMac; and another is available for guests; another unused and then the WiFi for when I compute in the garden and of course for my iTouch.
    So now let's say that on 28 July the ABC is down. Ideally I'd like to pull the cable from the ABC Modem that goes into the DI604 Router and plug-in a cable going to the XYZ DSL Modem and voilà have internet back via my backup XYZ. BUT can I print? Do I have to reboot the Router since it will have to reassign those 192.168.0.123 type numbers, won't it? (I believe those numbers are called the "IP Addresses").
    Thanks for any comments or references here.

    In your Network Preferences you can set up more than one method of connecting - i.e., Airport, Ethernet, Dial-up (heaven forbid). If, for example, you place Ethernet at the top of the list, then Airport, your Mac will try to connect to Ethernet first. If it can't, it will fall back to Airport.
    So if you can have Airport connected to one ISP and Ethernet connected to another, you will be able to pick one or the other by imply pulling the Ethernet cord. What you can't do is set up two Ethernet connections (or Airport connections) each with a different ISP (though if I read you aright this isn't what you want anyway).
    Another method is to set up 'Locations'. You could set up one with Airport only, and one with Ethernet only, and switch between them using Apple Menu>Locations: this would save you physically pulling cables and is just as quick, it takes only a few seconds.
    As to mail, it depends on your ISP. Some ISPs demand that you are connected directly to them to send mail, and possibly also to receive mail: some rely entirely on the password. In the latter case you can use the same settings in both locations or methods: in the former you can't get round that - if you're not connected you can't send/receive as relevant.

  • How to set default email address for input

    G'day all
    Summary: I'm sick, it's difficult to type, and a combination of autocorrect, default Shift key settings for input fields and my iPad completely ignoring my default email account is making it laborious to input my email address. Help!
    (Edit: I had a micro-brainwave and checked my "Me" card in Contacts, since I have Safari set to autofill from that card. My default email address is not listed first in the card. I've now put it on top, Gmail second and "me.com" last. I'll comment later on if I see this help with point 3 below.)
    Details:
    I love my shiny new iPad2. I really do. But autocorrect is driving me crrrrrazy when I try to input my email address.
    Typing in general is an issue for me, because I am disabled and have difficulties with coordination and movement. On my laptop (MacBook Pro mid 2009), I used TextExpander. It lets you set an abbreviation for any text, so you can just type that abbreviation instead of the whole thing, and TextExpander automagically inputs the whole thing for you.
    I have a long email address, because my ISP has quite a long domain name. So only typing 4 characters (my abbreviation) instead of the whole 23 characters was a big help for me.
    Enter the iPad.
    I need to use the iPad now, because my laptop is now too heavy for my legs (and I do occasionally need a full-on laptop, so the MacBook Air isn't the solution). The iPad in general has been great for me. The simplification of the interface (while annoying at times, e.g. not being able to view full headers in an email) saves brain cycles, so I can read for longer.
    However, where on my laptop I only needed to input 4 chars for my email address, on my iPad I have to input the whole 23 chars. How many places online are you asked to input your email address? Way too many. Safari may eventually catch up and record some of them, but currrently, I'm using too much of my day's energy just on trying to input my email address. (Note: this post is written on my laptop, so I can use my abbreviations.)
    TextExpander is available for iOS, but due to Apple's current refusal to allow integration with its apps, TextExpander isn't allowed to input stuff directly. Just like with the indispensable password program 1Password, you have to switch from Safari to the other app., search for and select and copy the text you want, then switch back to Safari, select the field and press Paste.
    Grrr.
    I may get desperate enough to go through those steps each time, if things don't improve with my email address. My problems are:
    1. Very few email-address fields in webpages currently have the appropriate settings to instruct the iPad keyboard not to start with the Shift key down. This means every time you try to input your email address, it will start with an upper-case letter.
    Half the time I don't notice until I've got part-way through typing my address, so I have to delete all those chars and start again. About a quarter of the time, after deleting, I don't notice that the Shift key has been activated again, so I go through the whole process again.
    2. Even when the email-address field turns off the Shift key, or when I remember to do it myself before entering text, autocorrect will insist on changing the first letter back to upper-case, because my username is also my first name. Cue more deleting and getting confused.
    3. This is the big one: once my username is up there, autocorrect insists on entering my "me.com" email address. This is the email address I use least. When I laboriously (again) delete this text and start again, it will either insist again on "me.com", or input my Gmail address. That is the email address I use second least. Autocorrect never inputs my main email address, set as my default account in the Mail-Con-Cal Settings. (This is a POP-only account.)
    4. Even if I do manage to input my whole email address correctly, autocorrect will insist on capitalizing the first letter of the domain name (which is also a location). Cue yet more deletion and retyping.
    Are there any ways to avoid wasting so much energy on trying to input my email address?
    Is there any way to set the default input email address? Or to tell the iPad/Safari that an email address field doesn't require the Shift key?
    I've had my iPad for nearly three months now, using it for my day-to-day activities, and I've been hoping this problem would gradually go away, that the software would finally catch on to my main email address (from the default account) which I have input over and over (and OVER) into email-address fields.
    Evidently not.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    As Roosevelt suggested, you can turn off Auto Correction in the keyboard settings. Go to Settings>General>Keyboard>Auto Correction>Off.
    This will also turn off spell check (unfortunately) and there is no fix for that. Auto Caps can also be turned off as well and so can the keyboard shortcut for the space/period. Frankly, all of these features drive me nuts and I wish the iOS allowed for more control, but it does not.
    As fars as typing your email address, be aware that even if you type your email address in all caps it still works. So if Autofill insists on capitalizing the first letter in your name in the email address - and it will insist on doing so - you can just let it go as is and it will still work. Doesn't really get to the heart of the matter but it would save you the laborious deleting and retyping.
    Having said that, when the Auto Correction suggests a word or wants to set a capital latter, you can tap the "x" in the pop up suggestion to ignore that word, cap, whatever. The dictionary is then supposed to "learn" your word if you refuse that suggested word enough times. This is another feature that seems to have a mind of it's own at times since sometimes it may take more than a few attempts to get the Auto Correct to not come up and instead allow your chosen word to be freely typed as desired.
    Lastly, with regard to your correct email address popping up, that is another case of if repeated time and time again, It should be another case of the iOS "learning" through repetition that your default email should popup when you begin entering the address.
    You could try to rectify all of this by resetting all of your settings and clearing Autofill but you would be starting all over again which is something I think you would rather avoid.
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset Keyboard Dictionary
    Settings>Safari>Autofill -tap names and passwords>Clear all
    As Roosevelt suggested, submit feedback, and I hope you find some resolution to this.
    Quick Note - I originally typed this post on my iPad and when I read a few of the words that were substituted by auto correct - I quickly turned to my iMac to change the words. I do feel your pain with regard to auto Correct!

  • How to set up Email in S60v3/5/^3 and bypass the N...

    There are many threads on this board that all say the same thing and usually are about how Nokia Messaging or email is not working or syncing.
    In an effort to have a base-line to assist with these, I have made the following tutorial to help users to bypass the Nokia Messaging (NM) as it is the auto-default to set up email on Nokia devices.
    NM allows for “push” email, which will not keep you constantly online and will allow for marking your server email with what you have on your device.  Ie-if it is read on the device, it will be marked as read on the server, deleted, then deleted, etc.
    When you bypass the NM, you will lose the “push” but you can setup most email as an IMAP4 which will do the same thing, and you can select what folders to sync, and how often to have them sync, not keeping you online.
    This tutorial was done on a Symbian s60v5 device, and while some of the dialog may be different among devices, the process is relatively the same when bypassing NM.
    Open the email client, select options
    Select Settings
    Select E-mail
    Select Mailboxes
    Options
    New mailbox
    E-mal wizard will show up, tap Start
    Next screen, Preparing for installation:
    If asked, allow to use network.  It will default to network to allow for set-up of NM.
    If first time setting up email, this screen will show, “Welcome to E-mail setup”  after you have done it once, it may not show up.  Tap Start.
    Enter E-mail address, then tap OK
    Splash screen
    Enter Password, then tap Ok.
    Splash screen
    This is the screen where you can choose between the NM and the internal email client.  Aka, Terms of Service (on some devices you have to “agree”) (aka-TOS).  The default  is Yes! Activate my Nokia Messaging account, and if you have already set one up, it will say, “Add to my Nokia Messaging account.
    You need to select “No Thanks.  I’ll check for new messages manually.” Or “Create a separate account that uses manual delivery.
    Splash screen
    Confirmation screen. Select Ok.
    Your new mailbox may not show up in the next screen which is supposed to show all the mailboxes set up.  It is a slight glitch in some phones.  Just tap the back button and then mailboxes, then you should see it set-up in the mailboxes as shown.  Highlight your new mailbox and then select options to setup the settings of the email address.
    You will need your inbound and outbound server settings and ports and securities if needed.  You should be able to google for the various email types and if it is a company email, you should be able to get this information from your system admins.
    The following are just some screen shots so that you can see the process to follow.  While the NM will sync and mark messages as read the same in the inbox, if you set up your email as an IMAP4, it will do the same and sync all the folders on the server as well.  There is an option to for how frequent you would like your email to auto-sync, just as with the NM.  AND what days you would like it to work!
    As there are older, the same, and newer versions of the Symbian and NM, this should help many people as least have the right guidance to bypass it if they wish and get on with consistent email service without using the NM.

    I managed to set up an account manually on the C7 but I had to trick the email application by entering an invalid email address and password. After it could not find my account it then opened up all the settings and permitted me to add the manual IMAP settings, reply to address and other details. After I committed the settings, the phone recognised the account as a gmail account and it locked down all the settings again so I could not go back and change them if wrong.
    I was quite chuffed with myself for seemingly resolving all my issues.....but on using the new account settings I could not sync the gmail sent / bin folders. All the other folders synchronised fine and when I send email it has the correct reply to address. Strangely this matches the best results I obtained when connecting using the Mail for Exchange settings so am no further forward. I am a little confused by this as when I let the phone set up the Gmail account on it's own it can sync everything.....but I just can't
    I am now hoping that the new software update (PR1.2) gets email working a little better....well when I eventually get it hehe.

  • How to set the Email(i) address that you get with your iPhone 3G in Japan?

    This isn't covered in the U.S. manual probably because the feature is slightly different in Japan.
    Basically the issue is this - cell phones in Japan have their own "cell phone email address". I believe that's not the case in the U.S.
    So when I got my iPhone 3G in Japan today from Softbank, the cell phone provider, I also got a new email address [email protected] The "i" stands for iPhone.
    The question is what to do with it? Unlike other cell phone providers, this is not set up on the cell phone itself when you get it.
    Thanks,
    doug

    I figured it out.
    With the iPhone you can set up multiple regular Internet email accounts directly in the Mail app, using either IMAP or POP3 and even have your existing accounts synched from your computer.
    It turns out that the [email protected] email account you get with your iPhone is just another "Other" account that you set up in the mail settings. When you add your Softbank address and password it automatically sets up the server to be IMAP for checking mail and the correct SMTP server and it just appears as one more push account in your accounts list.
    I'm not sure it is really useful for anything or not, but since a lot of people want to know "what is your cell phone address" I guess it is best to set it and have one rather than explain why you don't really need a separate cell phone address for your iPhone.
    It's sort of interesting. And it is actually an improvement over traditional Japanese cell phone email I think. And you can see nice HTML mail to boot.
    Anyway, I hope this helps anybody else who doesn't know what to do with their extra Softbank address that comes with their iPhone 3G.

  • How to set up iOS calendar app with shared Google Calendar data

    At work (in our small office) I've been given access to the shared Google Calendar that has our work schedule. It was set up using this page (click on Share an existing calendar):
    https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/37082
    The question I have is how to set it up to work with iOS calendar app on my iPhone?

    "currently there is no shared group calendar support."
    Well, not really. You hinted at it with: "set up a group wiki."
    Go into Workgroup Manager and set up an Open Directory group. Add people to it.
    Each client must then go into iCal --> Preferences --> Accounts and add an account. The name and password entered must be the same as that added to the group, Kerberos must be unchecked, and the account URL will be like (fill in the blanks properly):
    http://<your domain name here>:8008/principals/groups/<your group name here>/
    Now each properly logged in user of that group can make changes to the shared group calendar, without any "hacks" like making dummy users and delegation.
    However, I am getting a notifier: "Request Error: Accesss to <event name> in <your group name here> in account <your group name here> is not permitted." But that seems to be a lie, since multiple members of the group can make changes and others can see the changes.
    Oh yea, make sure you have a functioning DNS with valid reverse lookup.
