*** How to set up incoming mail servers in Apple mail

I wasn't able to reply to messages in my inbox this morning so I trashed the mail preferences and re-opened the program. I had a bit of a panic initially but realized that all my mailboxes were there (thought they had been deleted). The problem is that the program is defaulting to the wrong incoming mail server (a .mac server) and I can't get in to change it to my POP server......it won't allow me to input their information. Is there something I can do to change/fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Big: I'm confused, too. I am unsure why you "trashed" your mail preferences. Anyway, when you go to Mail-> Preferences... what shows in your incoming mail server? If it shows your Pop server account, than I, too, am at a loss why, all of a sudden, youu're being shunted to your now defunct .mac account.
Can you just delete that .mac account and go back and fill in your pop address in incoming?
If no one comes up with a brilliant suggestion, I'd go to your ISP website and rumage around til you come upon their FAQ's on mail server problems. If that doesn't work, perhaps a call to their tech support might be in order.

  • How to set up a mail server with a private DNS and relay over a public mail

How to set up the mail server that we can send and pick up emails inside and outside?
Our private network has the DNS name dnsname1.private.
We have our privat DNS Server and he can forward requests to outside over our router.
Our public emails are hosted by an internet provider. This dns name is dnsname2.com and dnsname2.org.
How we have to set up our mail server that we can pick up our emails from our public dnsname2.com?
And when we write an email how we have to set up it that the dnsname is dansname2.com and not dnsname1.private?

If you want to move your mailservice to your own (internal) server, start by making sure you can recieve traffic on port TCP 25 (SMTP). Some ISPs blocks this port, especially on "non business" connections.
Can you send mail from your LAN directly to where your mail is hosted using port 25 TCP or do you have to relay via your ISP?
You have a static public IP?

  • How do I get incoming mail in one of my mailboxes unstuck.  It will not download any mail in one box but the other mailbox works fine

How do I get incoming mail in one of my mailboxes unstuck??  It is trying to download it but seems jammed.  The other mailbox is working fine.  I know there is mail there because it is coming into my bb.  This just started this morning.  I took someone's suggestion and duplicated my mail from the library and I then put com.apple.mail.plist on my desktop.  I was unable to delete the incoming mail from the mailbox however so don't know what to do.
    Help?

Try this: If this is Apple Mail, select the Mailbox, then from the Mail Menu>Mailbox>Rebuild.

  • Is there someplace I can learn how to set up e-mail?

I am not very technical, and have just got the new i-phone 3G, Is there any place where there are step by step easy instructions on how to set up e-mail? Thanks

Depending on your email provider, most of them have instructions how to setup in Apple Mail or Microsoft Outlook. The instructions/settings are the same for the iPhone.
Others, like Gmail and AOL have built-in setup guides in the iPhone.
Who is your email provider? The first step is to visit their web site and look under their support section for the appropriate email settings.

  • How to set up forwarded mail?

I have several email addresses associated with my personal domain name that I have, that I set up on my host as forwards/aliases so I don't actually check server for mail sent to those accounts.
In Apple Mail I want to be able to send out mail sometimes using these addresses and so I set up accounts for them in Mail/Prefs so they appear in the "From" drop down menu. Mail requires requires you enter "Incoming Mail Server" info for accounts you set up, which I don't know how to handle since there isn't a corresponding account on my webhost and some times Mail asks me for my password for these forwarded addresses, and there isn't one.
How do I set this up?

I assume that you want to be able to use the addresses of these domains as 'From' addresses but use the same outgoing server as you are using with your other mail?
For each domain name, follow this procedure:
Create a new account in Mail Preferences>Accounts, The Description can be anything convenient, the Email Address is that which you want to use, and enter your name. For Incoming Mail Server, Usere Name and Password enter any old garbage (the User Name garbage must be different for each of these accounts you set up).
Set up the Outgoing Mail Server the same as the one you normally use.
Now click on the 'Advanced' tab. Check 'Enable this account' but do not check 'Include when automatically checking for new messages' (or you will keep getting error messages on auto-checking. Note that if you manually 'Get all new mail' you will get error messages for these accounts).
Now the domain addresses will appear as options in the 'From' drop-down menu beneath the Subject field.
In Mail Preferences>Composing set 'Send new messages from' to 'Account of selected mailbox' and you should find that when replying the 'From' address matches the one the message was sent to.

          Tom

  • How to set up more mail folders for example "saved"?

I have an iPad 2. Question is: How do I set up more mail folders? All there is now is " in box, sent and trash".

This is one of the major limitations of Mail on iPad. To make things worse for POP accounts, the Inbox cannot hold more than 200 emails... I have been trying to save incoming email in the Sent mailbox, but this does not seem to work well.
