How to set up ipod touch

I just purchased an Ipod Shuffle.  I downloaded Itunes and connected the shuffle.  The printed instructions said I would get onscreen instructions to set up the Shuffle.  I did not.  How do I set it up?

- You said "I have brought my son an ipod touch and registerd it in my name with my bank account details." Previously you also said "my husband has an account with itunes on the pc for his shuffle, I can also use the same account for my shuffle.".
- I do not understand how many accounts your household has and what account you used for the iPod touch.
- Using one account on the device makes things easier but you can use more than one account too.
- I would connect the iPod to the computer he will uses and sync via USB/iTunes initially. You can then sync via wifi later. See:
iOS: Syncing with iTunes
- On the iPod y can go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and sing out of one account an into another account. To update apps you have to be signed into the account that purchased the apps.

  • How to set up iPod Touch 4G on Windows from scratch again?

    Peace people,
    (This is my first post)
I have an iPod touch 4g, I am quite happy with it, however, recently, I don't know why, but it won't get backed up. I have windows 7 and the latest version of iTunes. The syncing goes fine, but in the end it gives the message, "iTunes could not backup the iPod *name of ipod* because an error occured". I'm worried sick. I tried deleting previous backups, reinstalling iTunes, restarting my computer, and several other things. If you can help with that, that's good, but now I have another plan, I want to set up my iPod from scratch, like, the first I plugged it in. Maybe that would work. Basically I want Windows and iTunes to forget my iPod, and the next time I plug it in, I want to to happen just like the first time, the process of recognizing the device/usb etc.
    Please help me.

It doesn't work, I've tried updatiing iTunes, I've reset the lockdown folder, I've tried a new user, there is no need for updating my Usb drivers, I've tried disconnecting any other Usb device, I didn't do the Layered Service Providers thing because it states that it is done when 'iTunes may unexpectedly quit, may stop responding, or the backup process may never finish' which isn't my case. I even uninstalled my security software and tried backing up, but that didn't work either. The only thing I haven't done is using a different computer, but that's because this is the only laptop I have, and another pc is not accessible at the moment. Though I am thinking about restoring my laptop to its factory settings after backing up important data, but that'll take time, so please if you have any other solution please help me, I want to update my iPod

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

That is because you cannot sync the iPod Touch to the iPad. It's not possible to connect the two devices in any way at all for any reason whatsoever.
if you want to download the same music that is on the iPod to the iPad, you can do that in iTunes in the purchased tab. If you want to have the same apps on the iPad, go to the purchased tab of the App Store and download the apps again. You can do the same with books in the iBooks app.
If you want to sync, Notes, Contacts, calendars, you can so that in Settings>iCloud - as long as you set up an icloud email account and turn those features on in the settings.
Perhaps, if you were to explain exactly what you want to do, we might be able to offer specific instructions.

  • Serious Question: How to check that iPod Touch is only communicating within home network?

Hi, I just installed a few 'media streaming apps' that stream movies from my Windows 8 PC to my iPod Touch. However, I recently realised that these apps could be sending data about my what I'm watching or information about my iPod Touch or Windows 8 PC.
How can I set my iPod Touch to only transmit data over my local network? I just want to keep my privacy.
    Please, help me!

Hey NewMacUser, Big brother already has you bagged and tagged! If you truly want the information off the grid, then don't use your computer or any other device connected to the web. As soon as you order up a movie that information you are trying to hide has gone out. (the black helicopters will be by your house any minute to pick you up! ) OK I'm done now.
I guess you could try encrypting you network but then the media apps may not work. That will stop on lookers from viewing your end of the transmission but it will not stop the information from going out to the company you ordered from-- and then to who ever they sell the information to. It'a all marketing and the seedy dark side of the Internet. Good luck, (try and sleep now). Cheers.

  • Old Computer broke...how would i put ipod touch songs on a new one?

my old laptop is completely messed up and i have been trying to figure out how to sync my ipod touch to an new laptop without erasing everything. any help?

Try a manual backup of your ipod to save your data and settings, here's how to:
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

set up ipod touch to cox email, ive tried everything and cant get it to work. thanks!

Here's an answer from the net:
Go to Settings/Mail,contacts,calendars/Add account choose other, choose Add Mail Account. Fill in name, email address, password and description on the screen that comes up. Save those.
One the next screen tat comes up click om POP in the first line then fil in the host name as
spop.west.cox.net or spop.east.cox.net or the one to go with your region.
Note that is not a misprint, that is spop (secure pop)
Fill in your username one more time (the password should have carried over from previously)
Fill in your outgoing mail server like smtp.west.cox.net (change for your region) and click Save.
When all the settings are verified a checkmark will appear next to them all and you are good to go.
If it says something like "can't connect via SSL would you like to ..." then you probably missed the step about selecting POP on the second screen and are trying IMAP so go back and try over with POP. Or perhaps mistyped soemthing.
Once everything is working you can go back into the settings and see that it has automatically connected on port 995 and that SSL is on
Note that you probably won't be able to send email from a wifi in a cafe or similar as cox won't let you connect to their smtp from outside their network.
I haven't tried receiving mail from a non cox connected wifi yet but I suspect it will work just fine. Anyway these settings work for me using my ipod to my home wifi router connected to cox.
I could not find a definitive guide when I searched so I hope this helps other folks trying to configure this.
I got the spop from "Mail for Mac OS X 10.5 configure SSL / POP" here:

How to send my iPod touch application to my iPad 2

Download the app again in the Purchased tab of the app store on the iPad. You can download the apps again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID.
If the apps are in your iTunes library on your computer - Sync with iTunes.
Connect the iPad to the computer and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Apps Tab on the right.
Click on all of the apps that you want to sync..
Click on the Sync Apps Heading.
Click on Apply or sync in the lower right corner of iTunes
You can also restore the iPad from a backup of the iPod Touch and then sync the iPad with iTunes and the iPad will be identical to the iPod Touch with regard to content.

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it.  If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.
