How to set up wireless WEP keys in GPO? - possible?

Summary:
How to switch users from using Intel ProSet to manage their legacy SSID w/ WEP to using Windows Zero Config w/ both legacy & new SSID's automatically?
Detail:
Some of our sites are still using WEP for wireless encryption (believe it or not) over 802.11b AP's.
We're in process of upgrading encryption from WEP to WPA2 & from 802.11b to 802.11a/g AP's.
One immediate challenge we have is how to keep both networks in parallel and make this transparent to the end users.
We can't cut all floors over at once, but need to do one floor at a time because users move from floor to floor.
We were able to roll out the new network / SSID in Windows Zero Config through GPO, but learned that we can't do the same for the legacy SSID - setting WEP keys isn't an option in GPO, at least according to the server admins.
Does any of you know how we can do this in an automatic & transparent fashion?
So far we've been using sneaker net to switch users from Intel to Windows, & configure WEP keys in Windows, which is taking up way too much time.

If you use a GPO to manage the wireless it will disable the intel proset software. This can have a negative impact, as you may have user that like to use the Proset when not in the office.
If you are going to use GPOs then the transition should be pretty smooth, just setup the new secure SSID first and then roll out the GPO. There are several M$ patches that you should install as well. Do a search for Microsoft Wireless hotfix and rollup and you will find them.

  • Wireless WEP key

How do I find my WEP key to allow another computer on my secured wireless connection?

To get WEP key, connect your computer to one of the four ports on router using ethernet cable.
Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser;s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier.
Go to wireless tab, at top in black bar
Go to wireless security sub-tab, in blue bar at top
Here note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key which you have to use on your wireless computers.

Did you mean Bluetooth? One. Did you mean FM or infrared, driven from the 3.5mm output jack? Any number of them, assuming you use the same frequency to receive the stream.

Have a new HP d110a wireless printer how do i get or put in another key that it will take to finish setting it up to work? I need help. I had one of these before, and had to send it back, and HP sent me another one just like it. It will not take anything i put in it. How do i fix this. I went through all the steps, and it still does not take anything. Need help.

    Hi,
Only you (or relatives) know your WEP key, it should be in your access point (AP), you can logon to it and check this out.
    Regards.

  • How do I find my WEP key on my macbook pro?

I am trying to hook up my blu ray player and it says that I need a WEP key and every time I put in my wifi router password it will not take it. It says The number of characters is invalid. Please check your entry and try again. My question is can I find the WEP key through my laptop and if so how do I find it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have a WEP key. Your security is set up using WPA or it is not set up for security at all.

  • Decrypt a wireless WEP key from across the country

    Hi All,
I recently started a new job where there is no documentation whatsoever anywhere. I have about 200 access points spread across the planet, and the majority of them have WEP keys.  I have access to the APs and can see the encrypted versions of the WEP keys in the show run.
I need to decrypt these keys for documentation/standardization purposes.  Are there any ways I can do it?  I tried making a key-chain in a spare router I have here and dropping in the encrypted WEP keys, but the router complained that the format was invalid, so I couldn't do that trick.
    R1(config)#key chain decrypt
    R1(config-keychain)#key 1
    R1(config-keychain-key)#key-string 7 <Encrypted WEP key placed here>
    R1(config-keychain-key)#do show key chain decrypt
All the methods online assume you are within range of the SSID physically, which is not the case for me.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi George,
No unfortunately I believe the keys are different everywhere.  You mentioned you've used tools in the past.  Do any of these tools work when the "cracker" is not physically near the wireless range/SSID?  I.E. I'm on the East Coast, WAP is in California.

  • How do you find the wep key for the wifi?

I need the WEP key to be able to acess my wifi through my playstation. And i am unsure of which operating system to choose i know i have the most up to date one though

Is the Wi-Fi network, provided by your AirPort Extreme, configured for WEP wireless encryption? If not, and is using WPA or WPA2 instead, then the Playstation is not properly recognizing the security type.
Which exact version of the Extreme do you have?
By operating system, are you referring to the one you are running on your computer? Is so, what is the make & model of your computer?

  • How to set up wireless connection

I just got the Macbook Pro. Unfortunately, I've never used a Mac before and am foreign to the interface. I have a D-Link router. How do I go about setting it up? I'm not computer savvy at all.
I know you go to System Preferences - Network, but then what?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    jaynew,
Hello Jay, and welcome to the Discussions!!
There shouldn't be much you need to do. First, we need to know a few things about your router. Is the wireless network password-protected (encrypted)? Does the router broadcast the SSID?
Any "open" wireless routers should be recognized by "Airport" (which is what Apple calls standard 802.11x wireless networking), and you will be asked if you want to join whatever networks are found. While Airport will "see" any password-protected networks that are broadcasting an SSID (basically, the name of the network), and it will show them in a list that appears in the "Airport menu" at the top of your display, it won't automatically ask you if you would like to join.
Out of the box, all Macs should be pre-configured to go online via a wireless network automatically. You can turn Airport on and off, from the menu I mentioned above, but it should be on by default. Double-check that it is: In your "Menu Bar," at the top of the display, look for a triangle with a curved top and concentric lines. This is your "Airport menu." Open it, and make sure that it reads "Turn Airport Off." Otherwise, it will read "Turn Airport On." You want it to be on
Assuming your wireless network is secured (password-protected), you'll need to select it from that same menu, then choose the correct encryption protocol, then enter the correct password. Provided you get all this right, you will join your network and gain a connection to the internet. Alternating lines on the Airport menu icon will turn black to show the signal strength. Also, you will be asked if you would like to store the authentication credentials for this network in your Keychain. You do!
If you still have trouble at this point, you might need to have a look at System Preferences>Network. First, use the "Show:" pull-down menu to select "Network Port Configurations." You will see a list of potential network ports, among them "Airport," "Ethernet," Firewire," etc. If you want Airport to be your main mode of internet connection, drag it to the top, and make sure it has a check next to it (make sure that it is enabled). Your Mac will look for internet connections in the order outlined in this list.
Next, change the "Show:" menu to select "Airport." In this window, click the "Airport" tab. The "By default, join:" menu should read "Automatic." Now click the "TCP/IP" tab. The "Configure IPv4:" menu should read "Using DHCP." You shouldn't need to bother with the other tabs.
That just about covers most any situation. If it does not cover yours, give us some more info, and we'll try to respond.
    Scott

  • How to set  a field primary key in a pre existing table

    Hi,
Suppose i have a table and no field in it is a primary key like this
    create table t1
    (a number not null,
    b number);
Later i want to make a as primary key then how to do that?
I tried with this statement but it gave error
    alter table t1
    modify a primary key;

I see, you want autogenerated constraint name (I hate that feature). What version are you on? It works on my 10.2.0.4.0:
    SQL> create table t1
      2  (a number not null,
      3  b number);
    Table created.
    SQL> alter table t1
      2  modify a primary key;
    Table altered.
    SQL> SY.

  • BEFW11S4 v3 - Setting 128-bit WEP key

    having problems doing this.
I get into the router ok, using no username and "admin" for password.
I set up the key, hit OK, then when I hit "apply" the prompt comes up for the username and password again. I skip the username, enter "admin" for password (just like I did getting into the setup earlier) except now it says it doesn't recognize, or it's invalid, etc.
Any help here would be appreciated very much.
    Thank you.

Which browser are you using, if you are using Internet Explorer 6.0 and above then
go to tools menu -> click on internet options -> then click on delete cookies, delete files -> now go to Content tab -> click on AutoComplete -> and then click on clear forms and clear password.
Also if possible try to use different computer by connecting it directly to router.
