How to set viewer aspect ratio to 1920 x 1080

I opened a new project, imported a 1920 x 1080 .Mov file and placed it on the time line. However, the viewer window, set to "Fit" is in a 4 x 5 std format and I cant see how to change to a 16 x 9 format.
Thanks for your help

I closed the project, opened and then set the aspect ratio in the settings dialog. I thought that this could be set after opening the project.
However, this time, after dropping the .Mov onto the time line, I have sound, but the audio sound track is empty. I need to see the audio waveform. The viewer is now in the correct format, 1920 x 1080.
In the project that I had the viewer in a 4 x 5 format, the audio tracks showed sound
Thanks

Hi Tom - sorry it has taken me some time to respond:
This is the thread I mentioned previously:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10705428#10705428
    In this thread you indicated:
    "Hello,
Copy your 7D card data to a dedicated folder, use a card reader, retain all the files on the card.
Then use Log and Transfer in FCP, at that point you can choose to convert to Prores (LT) or
Prores. It works just fine. I suggest you use 30P, it is actually 29.97, and stay away 24P until
you feel comfortable with this workflow. You can use Toast 10 to archive these files.
There are other sites you should explore:
    http://prolost.com/
    http://philipbloom.co.uk/
They are exploring these new hybrid cameras very actively
    Good luck, Tom"
I tried this to no avail. I'm also having problems with some of the 7D raw files (H.264) freezing on a frame 1/3 of the way through - and Quicktime craches - I haven't seen any information in the Apple forums that address this. Thanks for your input!

  • How to set custom aspect ratio for vertical video?

I need to have a vertical video (720x1080) rather than 1080x720. In the old FCP under project properties, one was able to change the ratio without a problem. On FCP X, the only formats avaible are all horizontal. Am I missing something? Help-thanks!

Thank you Tom. That was very helpful! Is there away to make it export on those dimmensions too? with the compund clip I got it to look good, but the export option is only 1080x720 with black on both sides.

  • How to keep original aspect ratio when cropping in Camera Raw?

How to keep original aspect ratio when cropping in Camera Raw? Cant figure it out! With shift, the aspect ratio is 1:1. But I didnt set it to 1:1 (I checked "normal").

The Shift key works once you’ve set your crop ratio.  DSLRs would typically do 2:3 and others sometimes do 3:4.

  • Set the aspect ratio

    Hello,
I have an old iBook G4 (aspect ratio 4:3) hooked up to a TV screen (aspect ratio 16:9). This means the TV always gets the 4:3 output and is incredibly annoying.
Using the open source MPlayer I am able to set the aspect ratio of movie files to 16:9, meaning they are distorted when viewing on the iBook screen but appear correctly on the TV screen.
However, MPlayer is not as good a player as QT and tends to corrupt the rendering... is it possible to set the aspect ratio of a movie in QT? This could also be solved if it were possible to set the aspect ratio of the entire display on the iBook when the video-out cable is plugged in.

    no resolution... doesn't seem possible.

  • Mobile display UI design, set grid aspect ratio/size

Hi, is there a way to set the aspect ratio of the grid I am working on to the dimensions of my phone's display, so I can design with that display size in mind?
    Thanks and cheers,
    c

Thanks Shane. Tried that on my set, was able to set to normal when viewing off-air picture, but when switching inputs to te dvd player the side bars are gone. Fiddled with the dvd player settings, set it for 4:3 output and I get a letterbox frame but at least the graphics are on screen. Looks like the stretch setting you spoke of.
Regarding Final Cut settings, in capture preset the setting DV NTSC 48 has a default of 3:2 aspect ratio. I see I can edit and change it to NTSC 4:3. Do you think it should be 4:3?

  • Camileo S10 - how to change the aspect ratio to 16:9

Does anyone know how to change the aspect ratio when making movies with the arcsoft software included with the S10!!!!!
    Won't let me select 16:9 only 4:3!!!
Not sure why as when you play the recording back directly through the telly it does it in 16:9 so I know it's being recorded in the right ratio!!

You cannot change the aspect ratio because you record at full hd 1080. The S10 records in format 1440/1080 at full hd, wich means 4/3. The S10 is not capable to record in full hd at 1920/1080 (this is 16/9 full hd). It is simple:
Camileo S10 record 1440 pixels on horizontal and 1080 pixels on vertical. The aspect ratio is 4/3.
Answer for your question: if you want to see in 16/9 format use HD2 (720p) for recording.
    Bye.

  • Setting camera aspect ratio...

    hey Guys,
I'm trying to get our video to be widescreen, but I'm not sure how to do that ( I'm using the 10.1 swc).
In the code for the stream manager, I see methods like set aspectRatio, but then I also see things like AR_LANDSCAPE.
Then in the documentation I only see a method like, "changeSizeStream()"
What's the correct way to set the aspect ratio and height/width of the encoded video stream?
    thanks

Camera RAW does support 1:1 aspect ration.  You just have to right click when using the crop tool to bring up the contextual menu, and select "Custom."  Then type in your ratio.

  • Setting the aspect ratio of an image

    Hi
Is it possible to specify the aspect ratio of an image? I have a bunch of video shots in my library and they all have non-square pixels so would like to "set" their aspect ratio.
    Thanks upfront!

If you are using an analog camera, you can set the aspect ratio in MAX. This will correct for non-square pixels.
If you are using a digital camera, I don't think there is a way to fix it during acquisition. You could resample the image to correct the ratios, but that would be a slow, time consuming process.
One other possibility is that your computer monitor is in a mode which is not a standard 4x3 configuration. For example 640x480 and 800x600 are 4:3 ratios. 1200x1024 is not, which tends to distort your displayed images.

  • How to set the display ratio of master and detail view

Currently, I use SplitApp that contain the master and detail view. And I would like to show the master view on the left half and detail view on the right half. Is there any proper way to adjust this?
    Thank you in advance.

You can set the width ratio by adding css. Check this,

  • How do I maintain aspect ratio of images in a replicator?

I have these ai files from a company logo I want to use to build up a wall of the cross shapes seen in the screen shot. My problem is that I have not been able to figure out how to have the replicator maintain the square aspect ratio of the image.  What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Drew

The only time I've seen something like this is when the original file was saved with an aspect ratio and *non-square* pixels. Adobe applications (Photoshop is the one I know) have presets for video, like NTSC 720x480 in either 16:9 or 4:3 aspect.  Taking the 16:9 as an example, what should be 854x480 pixels is saved as 720x480 and the pixel widths are set to be interpreted as 1.21 times wider. In other applications, this will appear to be about 21% squeezed when viewed as square pixels.
If this is the case, (or even *close* to the case) here's what you need to do:
In the Layers list window - at the top -- click the media tab.
    Select the image/AI file.
In the Inspector, click the Media tab (again...)
Find the Pixel Aspect Ratio and select (most likely) NTSC D1/DV Anamorphic
Motion will automatically set the 1.21 aspect I was trying to explain at the top. If that doesn't work, select one of the other presets or Custom and type in your own aspect "correction" value.

  • Set maximum aspect ratio when exporting

    Hello,
I'm using LR5 and I'm wondering if it's possible (maybe with plugins if necessary) to set a maximum aspect ratio when experting photos. For example I have a picture that I cropped to be a panorama, with an aspect ratio of 26:11. The print shop can print at a maximum aspect ratio of 19:11. So my 26:11 image is too small and I need to add some bars at the top and bottom of my photo to reach an aspect ratio of 19:11 (see also the sketch below). Later, when I get the finished prints, I have to cut the bars at the top and bottom with a pair of scissors for example. Is it possible to let LR automatically add these borders for a given maximum apsect ratio?

Hi Victoria, thank you for your reply. I looked at the Mogrify plugin, but couldn't find the option I need. I see some options for canvas and resizing and adding bars, but these all require to set a certain absolute pixel dimension. I don't want to resize images to a specific pixel size, I just want to correct the aspect ratio by adding bars at the bottom and top of the photo. Maybe I'm missing something in the Mogrify plugin? Could you explain how I can add the borders automatically to reach a maximum aspect ratio of 19:11 using Mogrify? Just to be clear, all photos with an aspect ration between 11:11 and 19:11 don't have to be changed. Only photos with an aspect ratio larger than 19:11 should be changed to 19:11 by adding the bars.

  • Setting movie aspect ratio in iMovie 10.0.4

Im trying to set a specific aspect ratio of my new movie, but I cant find any way to do that. I see help docs that say you can choose the movie format when you create the project but the latest version of iMovie 10.0.4 seems not to offer that feature any more. Nor can I edit the movie format at all anywhere as far as I can see. When I export the movie I have only a very limited set of options all with 16:9 aspect ratio.
Is this feature no longer supported?

It is possible to change the aspect ratio and it doesn't need to be in widescreen. I found out how based on another forum. Here is the answer on how to do it:
    1) Select a clip in the timeline.
    2) Select the "Adjust" button at the top of the window.
    3) Select the "Cropping" adjustment (the two right angles that form a square)
    4) Select "Fit"
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/movies-video/313345-imovie-10-0-4-960p.html#pos t1594108
I do find it annoying that when you drag a clip to the editor that it automatically changes the aspect ratio and you have to change it back.

  • Cannot set correct aspect ratio.

After Comcast completed maintenance somewhere on the network, the aspect ratio on my television changed, and now it is displayed in a zoomed in format that I cannot fix with any of the settings on my television.  With Set by Program or Just Scan, the graphics on CNN are too wide for the screen, for example--same on Bloomberg or anywhere that has graphics displayed.  On 4:3 format everything looks compressed and squeezed together.  16:9 is the same as Set by Program and Zoom is way too zoomed in.  I changed the 4:3 setting on the box, but it just made it default to non-4:3 format on those non-HD channels.  What has changed and how can I return to the correct aspect ratios for my television?

Never mind, I figured it out myself.  I continued trying different user setting combinations on the box and finally it worked.  I think the "Pass Through" setting is what did the trick.  Everything is now in the correct aspect ratio and the graphics are displayed properly.

  • How to use fixed aspect ratio on W520

Hi I am using W520 with Quadro 1000M.
I have a question that where's the "Screen size and position" option in the nVidia Control Panel? I need to turn the "Scale with fixed aspect ration" on, but I cannot find it. Can anyone tell me where it is?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi GaryGU
If you are running Optimus mode, the primary graphic controller will be Intel iGPU, therefore scaling, etc. and other settings would be mainly controlled by Intel(R) Graphics and Media. The configurations in Intel(R) Graphics and Media under Control Panel would be applied for both Intel and Nvidia GPU.
If you need scaling, go to Control Panel, Intel(R) Graphics and Media, Advanced Mode, Display Tabs, General Settings Sub Tabs, change to a lower resolution and you will see the scaling options appear. (Center Image, Scale Full Screen or Maintain Aspect Ratio).
No worry, this is normal and this is how Optimus works. Nvidia dGPU would only run when an apps or user demand high amount of graphic processing power.
    Cheers
    Peter
