How to setup 2 AXs in ethernet series from an AT&T DSL modem

I want to expand my exisitng ethernet network (AT&T DSL modem -> Ethernet Cat6 -> AX -> WiFi).  My home is concrete block ranch, so one AX doesn't cover the whole house.
I am running the latest version of ML on a 1TB, 16GB RAM, MBP 9.1 (non-retina display). Maximum hardware running off Wi-Fi is: 2 MBPs, 1 PC, 3 iPads, 4 iPhones.  All hardware is running latest updates.
I wired the house with Cat6 ethernet with 4 RJ-45 LAN access jacks.
The proposed new configuration is:
ATT 2010-02 DSL Modem -> Ethernet Cat6 -> AX1 -> 5-port gigabit switch --> Ethernet1 Cat6 -> AX2 -> WiFi
                                                                                                       |
                                                                                                       |-> Ethernet2 Cat6 -> TV Internet connection
                                                                                                       |
                                                                                                       |-> Ethernet3 Cat6 -> open LAN connection (for PC, etc)
                                                                                                       |
                                                                                                       |-> Ethernet4 Cat6 -> open LAN connection (for PC, etc)
                                                                                                       |
                                                                                                        |-> Ethernet5 Cat6 -> MBP 9.1
Where:
              AX1 = Airport Express MC414LL/A, model A1392, simultaneous dual-band 802.11n WiFi
              AX2 = Airport Express MB321LL/A, model A1264
I assume both AXs are setup in "bridge mode" & "Create a new network", but I don't know where to go from their.  I have read several posts, but it is not clear what to do when the AXs are different generations and connected serially.  One AX setup I tried turned the Internet light on the modem red.  I had to reset the modem and router to get back to square one.  Where do i go next?

Note: I am assuming that your DSL modem is just a mode and NOT a combination modem/router or gateway device.
If that's the case, then AX1 would have both NAT & DHCP services enabled (its default) and AX2 would be in bridge mode. If, on the other hand, the DSL modem is a gateway, then both AXs would be configured as bridges.
Regardless, both AXs would "Create a network" and both would use the same Network Name, Wireless Security Type and Password. In essesence you would have a basic roaming network.

  • How to setup firefox to play training videos from my hard drive

I have never watched videos, period.
I recently purchased some training videos, they are supposed to work in any browser.
They are SWF videos, I can play them on my SWF player.
They have a menu system when using browser that allows you to go from 1 video to another, or to a specif portion of any video.
My first guess would be to do it off line, but I have about 30 tabbed web pages open all the time.
I am also using Oracle VM, have 32 bit VISTA, and 32bit ubuntu setup on it.
I use firefox in Vista as IE8 crashes all the time.
So I have many options on how to do this if I knew how!!

  • How to setup HP LaserJet 1320 to print from Windows using Airport Express

My situation was that I could print locally when the printer was directly plugged into the computer's USB port but when I tried to print through the Airport Express (with the printer plugged into the AEBS USB port) nothing would happen. (I could print fine from my MacBook Pro, just not from any Windows machine.)
It seems (although I'm still not quite sure why) that the issue was with the port address created by the Bonjour for Windows wizard.
The following worked like a charm:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1688294

I don't think it answers the original question. PrintCentral, according to the description you are pointing to print
    s to:
    1) most wireless printers (he's got a network printer, I assume a wired one)
Works just fine on my 2 Ethernet network printers.
    2) all printers via a Mac. This option although useful looks a bit strange. If I have to have a Mac on all the time, I would use it to view stuff and print from there. No need for an iPad.
Not sure why you would want to use this option if you want to print directly from the iPad to a printer. My wife's iPad prints to either network printer just fine when my Mac laptop is shut down.
Looking for a solution myself... We need CUPS for iPad!

  • How to setup automatic sync to mobileme gallery from iphoto?

i uploaded an album from iphoto to my gallery and the next day i added 2 pictures to that album in iphoto and they were not synced to my gallery?

Once you create the iPhoto MMe gallery the Album you originally used is not longer linked to it.
You need to copy the new photos from wherever in the library they are and paste them into the gallery album that you access in the Web section at the left.
That will cause the new photos to automatically be synced online.

  • How to configure WRT350N as a router in a network wih a DSL modem/router

    Hi,
I'll really appreciate if somebody please could give me some help.
The problem is that I have a Dlink DSL-2640B modem/router AND a Linksys WRT350N router, what I want to do is how to configure them so they both are in the same network, and the WRT350N has access to internet and the computers connected to the DSL-2640B.
Is that possible?....OR...the other option I was thinking was leave the DSL-2640B as a modem only, and have the WRT350 make all the routing wired and wireless.
    I'll really appreciate your comments.
    Regards.

As per my knowledge it is better to use the wireless router to provide connection to wired & wireless computers. Leave the DSL2640B as a modem, connected to internet port on wireless router.

  • How can I connect my iPad2 WiFi (no 3G) to my wired DSL modem (not wireless capable)?  is there an adapter I can connect to the modem?

Yesterday I ordered an iPad 2 WiFi version (no 3G) and I want to know if it's possible to connect it to my DSL modem that is not wifi/wireless.  Is there some sort of wifi adapter I can buy to connect to the modem or do I need to buy a wireless router?
    TIA

If you have a desktop that can do "Internet sharing" and wi-fi, you may be able to use that instead of buying a router. I haven't done tihs recently but played with it with my iMac before I bought a wireless router.
But a router is the better option. They're not expensive and recent ones have some decent security. I have a Netgear WGR614 (v10) with a firewall built in making me double firewalled on the desktop (where all the really critical stuff lives like banking info and all) and it has an "access control" option where you not only password your network but specify exactly which devices can connect at all. Something I like because the signal reaches the street outside the house. That's a bit more "reach" than I like. Though, funny thing, my brother (who's iPad is authorized to use my net) did a quick update by pulling into my driveway once while I wasn't even here.
Any wireless can have a surprising reach. I live in a fairly rural area and I pick up on other peoples' wireless all the time. Which, out here, I did not expect.

  • Macbook pro to DSL-Modem via Ethernet

I need help getting on Interneet using Ethernet cable to the Speedstream-4200 DSL modem.
Usually I use the Airport-Extreme which then goes ethernet to the Speedstream DSL Modem.
However, I was trying to trace some major DSL slowdowns and want to try connecting directly to the DSL modem ... I tried various 'assistants', tried u things but never get the Macbook Pro to see the modem ... usually I can type the address of the modem in the url window and connect to it also ... and I can't via ethernet.
I have set the PPPoe data the same as I see it in the Airport setup
username and password ... what else?

Since you have switched the device connected to the DSL modem, you need to perform a power recycle so that the modem "forgets" the old one...and don't forget to do the same when reconnecting the modem to the AEBS.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, Internet Router, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the Internet Router; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)

  • How to Install Tiger on a 1st series iMac via Ethernet?

    Hey guys
I want to upgrade a 333MHz iMac to Tiger which has no firewire ports, only USB. I don't have an external HD to boot from, except my G5. I want to find out how I can install it via ethernet, is it possible? And if it is, how would I do it? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Luis,
First off, if you could install Tiger on that machine you would be limited to the first 8 GB of the hard disk:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106235
That gives you very little room to work with for anything that needs to be on the boot partition.
Also if Jaguar hasn't been installed on the machine, you'll want to upgrade the Firmware before installing Jaguar or later on the machine, otherwise face the possibility of a permanently dark screen.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
As you already have a PowerMac G5, let that be your Mac OS X machine, and network your iMac to the PowerMac G5 and leave the iMac in Mac OS 9.
For more on Apple's migration to Mac OS X and the best ways to proceed, see my FAQ:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html
I do not recommend upgrading the iMac G3 333 past 10.3.9 (though as you can see you'll still need the firmware update and be limited to 8 GB if you go to Mac OS X). Let the iMac G3 run what it is able to run according to Apple. Doing otherwise would be akin to putting a jet engine on a chariot. It may work, but then again, any attempted further upgrades would result in a serious jalopy of a machine.

  • How to setup multiple base station under one network?

How to setup multiple base station under one network? I have 6 rooms but one airport base station makes really difficult to get good signal from every rooms. I wonder if I can setup multiple airport base stations talking to each other under the same network to build up the signal strength will help solve this problem. But, is it possible? How?

One route would be to utilize a "roaming" network. In a roaming network, you would connect multiple AirPort Extreme Base Stations (AEBS) to the same Ethernet. Of course, this would require that your home is already wired for Ethernet.

  • How to setup a static IP for a wireless printer

This problem has been ongoing for several versions of OS X and the last five printers I've had and I'm finally over messing with it.  For some reson, when using a wireless printer with OS X this is a repetetive problem, and I think if I configured the printer to a static IP address instead of using DHCP, it might work better.  At least once a week, if not more often, I'll print something and get the ubiquitous Dock error of "Printer is not connected".  The printer is still in Preferences, but if I delete it, then it doesn't show up as it should for selection.
The only way to fix this is reboot, and then the printer shows up again in Preferences.  I select it and all is well again...until a few days pass and the same thing happens again.  Using an HP LaserJet P1102w, still a current model, but it doesn't matter which printer I use.  I also have an Epson Artisan 725 and the same thing happens with it about once a week.  Also, this happens from both my Mac and my wife's Mac, so it's not an issue with just my machine.
I've searched for documentation on how to setup a static IP address for a wireless printer with the Airport Extreme, but all I find are tutorials on how to do it with an ethernet hard-wired printer.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could set up your router to do manual assignment of IP address instead of using DHCP, but that is a PITA, because then you'd have to manually set up IP for all your devices.
If you have AirPOrt Extreme, you could do this:
In your Apple TV, go to the Settings >> About and write down the MAC address of your ATV
Start up the AiPort Admin Utility
    Go to Network tab
click + in the DHCP reservations
Choose an IP you want for your ATV & Enter the MAC address
From now on, this IP address will be reserved to the MAC address and only your ATV will be able to get it, no other device will.
It is not a static IP in a true sense, but behaves just like one.
    Works great for me...
If you don't have a AP Extreme, I'm sure other routers will allow you do reservations too.

  • How to Setup Airport Time Capsule 802.11AC on Verizon fios

I just got an Airport Time Capsule 802.11AC and i would like to set it up on to my existing verizon fios router as you can't change their router as the cable box works with it does anyone know how to do such a thing?

Setup is amazingly quick and easy, assuming that you connect a permanently installed Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the Fios router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule, and then use AirPort Utility on your Mac or iPhone/iPad for the setup.
We need to know what operating system you are using on your Mac to provide any specific setup details. Or, let us know if you are going to use an iPhone or iPad for the setup.
The Time Capsule will set up another wireless network, so if  you do not need two networks, you can turn off the wireless on either the FIos or Time Capsule. If you decide to have two networks, be sure to separate the Fios router and Time Capsule by 5-6 feet or a few meters.....to minimize the chances of wireless interference occurring between the two devices.

  • How to setup my airport for music streaming

    Hi all
I would like to use my iPhone and or iPad to stream music from Pandora and Spotify to my 5.1 (Wired) Speakers.
This question is similiar to this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4153687 however i wanted some clarity and thought best to start a new discussion before pulling my hair out doing this the wrong way.
I have an unused Airport Express basestation (A1408) My current home setup is as follows:
Modem Router: (Netgear DGND3700) N600 Wireless ADSL2+ Dual band Gigabit
Home Theatre Computer: Windows 7 (Cat6 LAN Ethernet connection) NO LAN port
    AV Reciever: (Onkyo TX-SR309)
5.1 Speakers: Wired connection to AV Receiver (NOT Airplay capable)
Laptop: Windows 7 (Cat6 LAN Ethernet connection)
My question is how to setup the airport, i understand it can be used to enable airplay streaming of music over the existing WiFi network, as these music streaming apps download and play music concurrently i would not want to have to switch between to two seperate WiFi networks. Should i plug the airport into the HTPC? I would need to purchase a LAN Splitter as the only LAN socket is already taken up with my cat6 connection. OR would i plug it directly into the modem/router? This second option is prefereable.
I have attached an image of my setup below. Any advice would be great, Regards Steve

Still slightly confused, with the link you provided i chose scenario 2. All the other secanrios instructed i connect the airport express to my home stereo or powered speakers. As i dont have an aiport express only an airport extreme there is no audio jack and cannot connect it to the stereo/speakers.
option 2: Connecting to an existing Wi-Fi network as part of a roaming network
Ensure that the AirPort base station Ethernet cables are connected as above
I have done this and conected it via ethernet cat6 to the modem/router
Launch AirPort Utility 6.1. The Assistant will automatically configure the Roaming network
Im using windows 7 and cannot find this version of aiport utility, only 5.6.1 - The message comes up: Aiport utility was unable to find any airport wireless device. I am running this utility on my win7 HTPC (which is connected to my modem/router via cat6 LAN) The airport light is blinkng amber.
would you reccommend a hard reset of the airport? or can you provide a link for AirPort Utility 6.1.?

  • How to set up TC for ethernet connections to MacBook and MacMini?

    Hi MacGurus
    Current setup:
    - ISP provided modem for incoming signal.
    - TC (1st generation from 2008) connected to ISP modem via ethernet cable (TC port: the one next to USB port with roughly an O-symbol). Is this the correct port to use?
    - Our ISP provider only supports 5 IP addresses and in our network we also have PCs/mobiles occupying IP addresses.
    - The back-up from MacBook to TC works fine through the connected ethernet cable between MacBook and one of the three ethernet (not the above mentioned O-symbol) ports on the TC.
This is what I would like to do:
    - Ethernet cables from TC to both a MacBook (from 2008) and a MacMini (from 2008), i.e not use wireless transmission
    - Switch off wireless function on TC.
    - Use the TC to provide IP addresses for both the MacBook and MacMini in order to leave the other IP addresses for the PCs/mobiles.
Is there any other information needed from me in order to help solving the problem?
Thank you very much in advance.
    Cheers/WA

Thx for quick response, below some "answers".
It helps if you spell out a few things.
    - ISP provided modem for incoming signal.
Who is the ISP? And what model is the modem provided? Is this dsl or cable or fibre or something else? *** ADSL
    - TC (1st generation from 2008) connected to ISP modem via ethernet cable (TC port: the one next to USB port with roughly an O-symbol). Is this the correct port to use?
The answer depends.. is the ISP modem also a router? Is the TC setup to bridge or route? *** Yes, the modem is also a wirelss & ethernet router. *** I do not know if the TC is bridge or route, how can I see that?
    - Our ISP provider only supports 5 IP addresses and in our network we also have PCs/mobiles occupying IP addresses.
Here is where I am getting confused actually.. Most ISP supply just 1 IP.. the router translates that single public IP to all the computer and devices on your network which run on a private IP network.
Is the ISP giving you 5 public addresses?? Are they ipv4 or ipv6? Setting up blocks of ip addresses is more a business setup.. where multiple devices need direct internet access eg servers.. without being hidden behind a NAT router.
So the more info you can give the better.
*** Sorry for confusion. It is likely that the ISP provider gives 1 IP address, and that the modem generates up to 5 IP addresses. It is most certainly only a standard private setup, no business setup.
What IP addresses are you getting now?
If you plug ethernet to the macbook and mini now.. and turn off wireless, what IP address are they getting??
If the TC is in router mode they should get 10.0.1.x IP and be able to ping and share with each other.. without needing to do anything.
*** I am now connected to the modem (wireless), as I cannot connect through the ethernet cable.

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Sorry, I forgot to mention a few points:
    1) I don't have the Airport Extreme base station;
    2) My PowerBook is connect to the internet thru wired connection with the Built-in Ethernet;
    3) The Airport is turned on, but my PSP's scan cannot locate the PowerBook at all (while it find someone else's network)
So, I wonder if I can just connect my PSP to the built-in Airport in the PowerBook directly. So that I can have internet access on my PSP.
