How to setup bookmark "sidebar" in Firefox 9.01?

Just install 9.01 and looking for the option to display bookmarks in a sidebar. Doesn't seem to be an option in the drop down menus from the upper left "Firefox" with down arrow.
I've have it working on an earlier release on a different system.

Thanks much, the ctrl-b did the trick. The sidebar is a very useful feature, don't know why it is not more clearly displayed at install time. Thanks again.

  • How do I open the bookmarks sidebar in firefox 7?

I can't seem to find where I can open a sidebar to view my bookmarks and browsing history without opening a separate window. I know in the older version of firefox I could just click view>sidebar and that's what the help instructions say to do, but that info doesn't show anything about opening a sidebar with the latest version of firefox because there is no "view" option, or at least none that I can see!

You can hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu Bar, which has the View menu. Or you can use '''{ Ctrl + B }''' to open ''(and close)'' the Bookmarks Sidebar.

  • How to make bookmark sidebar restore its scrolling position on Firefox start?

Why does Firefox not restore the bookmark sidebar scrolling position and open bookmark folders to the exact state it had when I closed the browser?
I admit to having way too many bookmarks, but especially then restoring the scrolling position and open bookmark folders is essential to me.
Is there any "about:config" setting to adjust this?

    Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
#Use <u>one</u> of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
#*Click the ''[[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar|Firefox button]]'' to open the menu and click on ''Bookmarks''.
#*Click the ''Bookmarks'' menu and click on ''Show All Bookmarks''.
    # At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
    # Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
    # In the new window that appears, click OK.
    # Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]] article. For other solutions, see the [[Recover lost or missing Bookmarks]] article.

I have used Firefox forever. (I also use Thunderbird.) When I opened Firefox all I get now in the menu bar is the word "Firefox" with the "About Firefox," "Preferences," etc. list. Nothing else. I cannot open Firefox and I cannot quit it, either. I can do nothing with it at all. How can I get it back. I need my hundreds of bookmarks.

  • How do I set Firefox 29 to always show the bookmarks sidebar with one click instead of a drop down menu?

I've decided to just get used to Firefox 29 instead of messing with add-ons and what not to make it look like it used to but one thing that is too ingrained is a favorites/bookmarks sidebar with one click. I just don't like the drop down menu. Is there a way to set the "Bookmarks" button to show the sidebar in one click?

I want the bookmarks sidebar button. This should be a BASIC feature available, not something I need to install an add-on for to revert to some "classic restore". Why is something so straightforward and easy to use considered "classic", and everything has to be hidden and hard to see in this new version? All the colours in the new tabs BTW are are BLUE, and they blend in with the background at the top, you can't see the tab edges - whose bright idea is this?

  • Bookmark sidebar always open when I start Firefox. How to prevent?

Upon starting Firefox, the bookmarks sidebar is always open. It is a nuisance to constantly need to close it. This has never happened before. It suddenly started a couple weeks ago and now the sidebar is open each morning I open Firefox. I can't find any options for it in the menu. Just the temporary closing. Using Firefox 26.

old computer is offline, so if I have to make a copy of something hopefully it can be done offline.
Don't really understand why windows 7 renders Firefox so different that XP. Will change, but really like the old feel.

  • How to setup spotlight to ignore safari history item. I just want bookmarks

Anybody know how to setup Spotlight so that when I do a search, it just finds bookmarks? I don't want all of the history items.
    Thanks to all who answer.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs each time you start Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.<br />
You can check its content with a plain text editor if the file is there and you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can do a search for delta search pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and reset related user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

  • How do I pin my bookmarks sidebar to the left side of the page?

I used to be able to pin my bookmarks in a sidebar along the left of the page. I cannot find the command for doing this now. Where is it?

There's two different Bookmarks buttons, the one that you are talking about has a small "drop-mark" arrow which opens a bookmarks drop-down which is like what appears from the Bookmarks menu item on the Menu Bar, when the Menu Bar is hidden '''that''' Bookmarks button appears. The other Bookmarks button (without the drop-mark arrow), which is in the Customize Palette by default, is for toggling the Bookmarks Sidebar - which can also be toggled with {Ctrl + B). ''There's almost two or more ways to do anything in Firefox - menu items or keyboard access-keys or a combination of the two.''
If you want that other Bookmarks button see this. <br />

Did you even try using '''{ Ctrl + B }''' to see what I am talking about?

  • When closing firefox 4.0 with multiple tabs open, i wish to save this setup when i reopen firefox. the option to save my setup is now not in the prompt. only that i'm closing multiple tabs. how do i do this?

in the older version of firefox, you were prompted when you were closing multiple tabs. but you were also given the option of saving the current setup so that when you reopened firefox, this current setup would reopen also. how do i make this happen with firefox 4.0?since i updated to firefox 4.0, there is no obtion given to save my current setup.

You can change Firefox preferences so that you also get the option to save the current tabs when quiting:<BR><BR>
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message about being careful and you will see a list of settings.
    # Type '''browser.showQuitWarning''' into the ''Filter'' box at the top.
    # If its value is ''false'', double-click on it to change it to ''true''.

  • How can I move all my bookmarks from different Firefox profiles into one area to organize them and then place them into the different Firefox profiles?

How can I move all my bookmarks from different Firefox profiles (would like to move whole bookmark folders at once if possible) into one area to organize them and then place them into the different Firefox profiles? This is all under one window user account, I am using windows 8.1. Even if you have information on how to do it on a different windows, it may still be helpful. Thanks for any input you have.

Just a note about the difference between these two things:
    * "export" and "import" use an ancient HTML document format that all browsers can understand. When you import bookmarks, Firefox may place them into an Imported Bookmarks folder, or into Unsorted Bookmarks. This does not displace existing bookmarks, and Firefox does not automatically remove duplicates.
    * "backup" and "restore" use a more comprehensive JSON data file, which contains extra information about your bookmarks (such as tags) not contained in the traditional export file. HOWEVER, a restore completely replaces all existing bookmarks, so the restore feature cannot be used to merge in a set of additional bookmarks.
    Related support articles:
    * [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]
    * [[Import Bookmarks from a HTML file]]
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
Some users find the disk-based Windows Favorites folder a convenient way to organize bookmarks. If you do, too, and you do not need to preserve tags on your bookmarks, you could export each profile's bookmarks to HTML and import them all into IE11. Organize them in the Windows Favorites folder, then export from IE11 to HTML and import that file into each Firefox profile. See: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/add-view-organize-favorites].

  • How do I pair an older Firefox with bookmarks with the new Firefox system without pairing function?

Firefox is fantastic except when I have a problem. I must be real stupid. I have sent questions about different issues in the past and I see I got a lot of help. Unfortunately I cannot read any results. That is why I quit Firefox for a while. I just decided to give it another try; Firefox is worth it.
I have had Firefox installed on my "Win 7 Home" laptop for some time without updating it. It contains all my bookmarks from some time back. I just came back to Firefox and installed it on both my desktop machines with Win 7 Pro. The new Firefox sync and pairing are different. I cannot pair my old laptop with my new machines to copy all my bookmarks. I also cannot pair my two desktops.
What makes it worse, I cannot get the laptop to join the same home group my desktops are in. I tried different combinations with each computer and laptop creating the home group, but I could not get either desktop to be in the same home group as the laptop. The desktops would join each other's home group but not the laptop's. I can see all machines are connected to my home network. This dummy needs help.

    Hi watashi,
Welcome back :-) I would be very happy to help you out. The new version of Firefox 29 has a new sync. It just came out, so there is no worries about not knowing. Almost easy as pie: [[How to update to the new Firefox Sync]]
If anything is confusing, please post back so we can help you further and make that article a little more clear if need be :-)
