How to setup external monitor?

I know it's been asked numerous times before, but I can't find the solution I'm looking for.
I'm running a dual 2.0 powermac g5, with dual 20" monitors for editing, and I'd like to hook up an external televison that ONLY shows the canvas in FCP 5.
Here's the catch: I don't want to have to go through a camera to do this.
There has to be an easy solution here... when I was in college, they had it setup that way, but they were on PC's and Premiere. Is going through a camera or a dv to analog converter box the ONLY way to do this?? How could it be so easy on a PC, and difficult on a mac. That just doesn't make sense.
I'm sick of doing color correction, then having to burn to dvd, then going to watch it on the big screen just to see that the colors are totally different, and starting the whole process over again till I get it right.
thanks -brown

I pretty sure that the PC's at school DID NOT go through a converter box, and I'm positive they didn't go through a camera. If I remember correctly, it was just an audio/video cable that came directly out of the computer, and directly into the external monitor. Then it was as simple as setting it up in Adobe Premiere to just show the "canvas".
I just don't see why mac would make it difficult. Seems to me that it should be a top priority for them to make it as simple as connecting a cable. Doesn't every editor want an external ntsc/pal monitor to view thier stuff?? and doesn't apple get a lot of thier sales from post production people??
I don't get it. Oh well... I guess I'll put some money aside for the converter box.
Any other ideas still welcome. I read a post in hear about the "screen spanning doctor" and I think someone said they got it to work that way... but it wasn't perfect.

  • How to setup external access in VM?

We need to setup a Microsoft VM and allow external access without using my company VPN as we need to test the web services integration with other vendors. could you please help how to setup external access? Thanks

    Hi Wilson,
As a prerequisite , that VM need to access the gateway .
It means that you need to
create an external virtual switch then connect that VM to external virtual switch then allocate a LAN IP for VM .
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj647786.aspx
After this you may think of this VM as a physical machine in your LAN then do what you need .

  • How to adjust external monitor brightness / contrast

I just recently bought a MacBook Pro, and I am trying to calibrate my Lacie photon20vision (not mark II) but cannot figure out how to adjust the brightness and contrast. The problem lies in that when using the DVI input on the monitor the on screen adjustments are not available. You are required to use software to adjust the levels when using the DVI on this monitor. In Windows I would just go into the driver properties and adjust and all was fine. On my mac I can choose resolution and err, that's it.

    Hi
I am not too sure if I get to the Windows because screen is damaget so much you cannot see anything, but bo matter what I do external monitor is in power safe mode. And I know for sure the monitor is good - tried on different system and it works.
The whole idea is I do not need to use this laptop as portable device, I was planning to connect external monitor, keyboard and mouse and use it as office CPU.

  • Broken iMac Screen; How To Attach External Monitor?

I have an intel 17" iMac and the screen is broken. How can I attach and use just the external monitor as the main monitor? Thanks.

For a DVI monitor, you will need a Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter and a DVI-D cable.
For a VGA monitor, you will need a Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter and a VGA cable.
Then once the monitor is hooked up, go to: Apple > System Preferences > Displays and turn Mirroring Off. Then go to the Arrangement tab and drag the menu bar from the iMac display to the connected monitor.

I have a 23 inch Apple Cinema Display connected to a 2010 15 inch 2.8 GHz i7 MacBook Pro running Mac OS X (10.6.5). I'm running the laptop in clamshell mode. Everything is working fine, but for one thing. For some reason the external display does not obey the Energy Saver Control Panel settings. I have the Energy Saver Control Panel set up so the laptop never sleeps but the display is set to sleep after 5 min. of inactivity. Unfortunately the external monitor never sleeps.
Anybody know how to get only the external monitor to sleep in clamshell mode?

Basically, reinstall the Boot Camp video drivers manually and if that doesn't work then go to the AMD/Radeon website and install the Windows drivers directly for your video card model.
If you want to do a search you will find others that have pretty good luck doing it either way.

  • U110 How to Retain External Monitor Resolution

I'm trying to help someone with an IdeaPad U110 and an external monitor.  The Lenovo allows me to login with an external keyboard and monitor but as soon as it boots Windows, the external monitor goes dark and I have to choose FnF3 each time to re-enable the external monitor and then reset the resolution to 1680 X 1050.  Isn't there a way to get the Lenovo to retain these settings so I don't have to do this each time I boot it up?  THANKS!!

    Hi JLNH,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    Please try these steps.
1 – Click the Start button.
    2 – Click Control Panel.
3 – Click Appearance and Personalization.
4 – Click Adjust screen resolution.
Now once you have the resolution page
    1 Select your exrernal monitor
2 Set the display type to duplicate
    3 Place a check
Restart the computer and check if it remains on.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • How to setup system monitoring of EP 7 to Solution Manger 7.0

    Hi Experts,
I need help for configuring EP 7 (only JAVA engine) for system to Solution Manger 7.0. IF anyone of you have steps or config guide pls help me ???

    Hi Vikas,
In general, system monitoring in SAP Solution Manager use CCMS as the data supplier, which means that, you need to configure CCMS alert infrastructure for your EP system.
    General steps:
    1. Configure solution manager or other ABAP system as the CEN (central) system as the CCMS infrastructure.
    2. Install SAPCCMSR agent (which is part of CCMS Agent), and connect the agent to CEN system
    3. Setup system monitoring in Solution Manager
For more information, you can access the help portal of SAP.
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks, Jett

I'm sure this can be do i just dont know what buttons to push because i cant see a screen.
Ihis is my first forum ever thanks!

    Hi mate
I recommend using the key combination FN + F5
You can use this in order to switch to external monitor or TV output.
This key combination support several options:
    - internal screen + external screen
    - external screen only
    - TV out
    - etc...
You have to press FN + F5 several times in order to get the right output.

  • Satellite A200-1AE: How to set external monitor as main display on Win XP

    Model: A200-1AE
    OS: XP SP2
I wish to use the external display in Windows XP. It would be necessary that the external display was the main thing, and desktop expansions occurred on the laptop display. The driver, downloaded from your site do not allow to make it... Though in Windows Vista such possibility is.
How it is possible to solve my problem?

    Hi
As far as I know this is not possible. In my case this option is grayed out!!!
But maybe its possible on your notebook. In such case you should access the graphic card properties. Then go the last tab called Settings.
There you should mark the display 2 and should enable the option called use this device as the primary monitor.
But if this option is not available you will be not able to set this!!!!
    Best regards

  • Help Needed: How to setup external procedure in listener on 11gR2

I have successfully installed 11gR2 RAC on two nodes RHEL5.3, I noticed that the default configuration has something different from previous versions (such as 10gR2 or 11gR1):
    (1) listener.ora is under $GRID_HOME/network/admin (a.k.a under Grid tree) not under $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin, and have a new file called "endpoints_listener.ora"
    listener.ora under $GRID_HOME/network/admin:
LISTENER=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=LISTENER)))) # line added by Agent
LISTENER_SCAN1=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=LISTENER_SCAN1)))) # line added by Agent
ENABLE_GLOBAL_DYNAMIC_ENDPOINT_LISTENER_SCAN1=ON # line added by Agent
ENABLE_GLOBAL_DYNAMIC_ENDPOINT_LISTENER=ON # line added by Agent
    endpoints_listener.ora under $GRID_HOME/network/admin:
LISTENER_NODE41=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=node41-vip)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=192.168.10.41)(PORT=1521)(IP=FIRST)))) # line added by Agent
    (2) If I put listener.ora under $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin like 10gR2 including EXTPROC, then restart RHEL servers, the listener.ora under $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin doesn't take effect rather the listener.ora under $GRID_HOME does; however if I run "lsnrctl stop" and "lsnrctl start" the listener.ora under $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin will take effect.
    listener.ora I added later under $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node41-vip)(PORT = 1521)
    (IP = FIRST))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.10.41)(PORT = 1521)(IP = FIRST)
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    Questions:
<1> How to correctly setup extproc correctly under 11gR2?
<2> Will my way in (2) will affect the SCAN single IP access functionality? (I assume SCAN is enabled at least partially by listener.ora under $GRID_HOME such that client can use simpler connection string)
    Thanks in advance.

I think the document you mentioned is for 11gR1 not for 11gR2. If that is the case, you could go to the 11gR2 library and check the Networking docs yourself at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/portal.portal_db?selected=4&frame=#network_management

I felt that the 11gR1 should be named 10gR3, and 11gR2 should be 11gR1 because 11gR2 introduced a lot more new features.Good one. You should join Oracle Marketing.

I have a similar issue.  I currently have a triple monitor setup, a 1920x1080 + the laptop at 1920x1080 +  another on 1600 x 900.  this works fine.  When I swap out the 1600x900 for another monitor at 1920x1080, i get the same error.  I can get any combination of 2 monitors working, and I can get all 3 working if the 3rd is at a reduced resolution (1400x900), but at full resolution i just get the error.  The same setup works fine in windows at 1920x1080.

Since it has DVi I'd get the Apple MiniDisplay Port to DVI adapter. MiniDisplay Port and Thunderbolt use the same socket design, they are basically interchangable although Thunderbolt has more features than the older Minidispay port standard.
This is what it looks like at both ends.
