How to setup HDD password on Equimum L40-141?

Hi
Can anyone tell me how to setup hardrive password on my above Laptop please?
Thank you
Jane

Hi
Did you check the settings in the BIOS?
My BIOS contains a option for HDD password setting.
But just one question; why do you want to set the HDD password?
Is it really necessary?
You should know that if the HDD was set and something will go wrong, I mean if you would forget the HDD password then the HDD would be locked and not more useable.
Therefore be careful with such password if you want hear my opinion; dont set it.

To configure the AirPort base station for wireless security, you will need to use the AirPort Utility.
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless tab
    Wireless Security: <None | WEP (Transitional Security Network) | WPA/WPA2 Personal | WPA2 Personal>

  • Re: Satellite L350-16U - How to recover HDD password?

I forget my massword of HDD and I can't restart my system.
How can I recover my password HDD in my notebook L350-16U?
    Thanks

    hi foued,
    hi all,
i'll try to bring some light in this discussion....
    first of all
? what is hdd password and how it works:
the password is stored on the hdd and crypts the content to protect it from unauthorized access.
lost password means: all data lost!
but there is hope: some data recovery companies maybe are able to reset this password, search for "kroll ontrack"
?new hdd required: no - only if you dont need your data,
there is an option to initialize your hdd (option in bios) *but* you will loose all data!
how it works?:the bios calls a routine in the hdd controller that formats the hdd, after that you have a blank hdd - data cant be recovered from this point!
but you got the hdd in a fresh state!
there are some "cool" scripts/methods/tools around in the internet... i wouldnt try this....
this leads you to an unusable hdd and you will not be able to recover...
sorry but the only way to get your data back is to send some money or
forget your data and install the system again after unlocking the hdd (delete whole disk data by controller)...
this is a cool security hardware stuff - no way to break!

  • Tecra M5: How to use HDD password when HDD is connected as external device?

I have a Toshiba Tecra M5 with MK1032GSX hard disk. I put a bios password and HDD password. Every day I power on my laptop by digit my password only one time: unlock disk and bios. The screen for password is before windows starts.
One day motherboard of my laptop is broken, I bring my pc on Toshiba support center (less disk), and I waiting for it (2 month ago). I need to read my date from disk but it is locked by password. The disc is SATA disk, I put it on a desktop and I see it in bios and in peripheral of windows resource, but I don't see it in explorer.
Any of software that I tried (HDD unlock, atapwd...) wont work. I have my password, I have not forgotten it.
How can I read my date? Can you help me?
    Thank you.

as far as i know its not possible to remove the hardware password from the HDD other than by using your laptop.
Still if you google arround I think I saw once something about a Linux distro that was able to unlock some HD's. Not sure if thats still arround but perhaps you can give it a go. Still I would not advise doing something like that has its possible that it messes up your HD and then you will be stuck with a good paperweight.
The proper course of action when you send ur laptop to warranty is to make a full backup. There are image software out there that allows you to make a mirror image of your HD for example. I, myself, bought a 100GB USB2 2.5' HD that fits my pocket and goes with me everywhere. I've encrypted it with TrueCrypt so no one has access to my sensible information if loose it and I make regular backups from the laptop to this HD. It saved my life at least 2x.
    Just my 2 cents
    Cheers

In the Batch Sequence dialog, click "New Sequence"; give it a name.
In the dialog that appears, click "Select Command".
Scroll down the list of available sequences to locate and select "Security".
    Click the "Add" button.
    Click the "Edit" button.
The Document Security dialog presents itself.
Select a security method from the drop-down menu.
Go through the Settings dialog(s) to configure the selected security method.
Once this is done and you close out of the dialog you are back to the "Edit Sequence" dialog.
    Click OK.
Back in the Edit Batch Sequence - <name of new sequence you made> dialog, click the "Output Options" button.
Review the available configurations to see if you want something other than the default (& to see the default).
When done and back in the Edit Batch Sequence - ... dialog, click OK.
Click the Run Sequence button, then click OK to browse to the folder containing PDFs to process.
Select the PDFs and click the "Select" button.

  • How can I remove the HDD password?

Did anyone know how I must reset the Toshiba 2.5" SATA or IDE password?
Or how I can use a password protected HDD?

I am sorry but the last poster is incorrect. You can remove the password as follows :-
    1) Start the computer
    2) Enter the BIOS
    3) Scroll down to HDD Password box
    4) Select "REGISTERED" in the password field
    5) When prompted enter the existing password
    6) When prompted for the new password press the "backspace" key" once
    7) When prompted for the [assword the second time, press the "backspace" key once more
    8) A message to say that the password has been changed will appear and the word UNREGISTERED will appear in the password field
    9) Select "exit and save"
At the next power up you will not be asked for the password.

  • How to use recovery disks to get rid of hdd password?

I got this compute and it's asking me to put in the built in HDD password, which I do not have so I purchased the recovery disks. I did what it said but didn't do anything? Help me please!

    Hello
The recovery disk will not delete the HDD password. Recovery disk will just reinstall Windows with all drivers and tools (factory settings) but not delete any HDD or BIOS password. Of course the Windows password will be deleted due recovery installation but thats all.
    You should check this article:
    [What is a HDD password?|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=50]

  • Remove built-in HDD password (Satellite Pro L300)

I already posted a topic but it didn't get any working answers, and I can't post in it to bump it any more.
Anyway, I know the password, and I can boot up into Windows, get into BIOS, etc..I just can't remove the password, not change it. There's no BIOS user password set, or a supervisor password set, just an HDD password. I want to remove it and just have the Windows XP passwords. This is really frustrating now. I just upgraded to the latest BIOS version about an hour ago, and still no luck
    Any ideas?
These are the suggestions I tried:
"You should be able to remove the password by first entering the current password, then just hitting <enter> for both of the "new password" entries.
If that's not clearing the password, then something else is amiss. :-("
The thing is, there isn't a thing for current password, new password and confirm new password, there's just one thing that says built-in HDD password within the security bit of the BIOS setup, and no matter what you enter, the changes aren't reflected
Edit: Seems you can't change or remove the HDD password. How ridiculous.

If you didn't set a hard drive password and the system suddenly starts asking for one, that is one symptom of a drive failure.  As far as I know, there is no way to reset, remove, or otherwise defeat a hard disk password once it is set so under those circumstances, I would treat the drive as failed and shop for a replacement.  If the system is still under warranty, a Premier Authorized Service Provider would be the best option.

  • Set HDD password on T550

Hi, I just upgraded my harddisk in my ThinkPad T550 to a Crucial MX200 1TB. The drive works very well, but now I'd like to set the HDD password to make use of the encryption the drive provides (prefer not to use BitLocker). I can't seem to find the corresponding menu item in the BIOS. I also tried the "ThinkPad Setup Settings Capture/Playback Utility (SRSETUP)" with no luck. Then I tried the "BIOS Setup Menu Extension Utility", which officially doesn't support the T550. It shows the status of the menu changed from disabled to enabled, but I still can't find the menu in the BIOS.  Can anyone point me to a solution on how to activate the HDD password on the T550? Thanks!

Just as a follow up: I swapped the MX200 with a Samsung EVO 850 1TB. Now the HDD password as well as BitLocker work as they're supposed to. Too bad the return period for my MX200 has already expired ...
