How to Setup Multicast Address on Solaris 2.6 (Back to the well again)
Basic Cluster Query,
Several weeks ago, I was thrashing about trying to verify the syntax for setting
up a multicast address on Solaris 2.6 in preparation for implementing Weblogic
6.0 clustering. The command syntax was:
ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} plumb
ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} {multicast_address} up
The commands succeeded on the first and second servers without errors, but unbeknownst
to me there were errors reported on the second host concerning duplicate address.
The errors were:
unix: WARNING: IP: Hardware address '08:00:20:a6:ed:0a'
trying to be our address 237.000.000.008!
The server halted today after several weeks; however, it is not clear whether
the multicast address caused the halt. Neither Weblogic nor Sun documentation
have been helpful. Can anyone provide guidance on setting up multicast address
on Solaris 2.6?
Bewildered,
Dan
Dan,
I don't think that BEA specifically takes any stand regarding the
configuration of operating systems. The problem is that the
administration of Unix machines and networking is a very complex and
sensitive subject for most companies (e.g., they have entire departments
dedicated to this) and BEA tries not to enforce any more configuration
specifications than it has to.
With regards to multicast, most newer versions of the major operating
systems (including Solaris) have support for multicast turned on "out of
the box". However, it is possible for your administrator to muck around
with your machine's network settings so that multicast does not work
properly or is disabled entirely. Most people in BEA support do not
know enough about low-level Unix TCP/IP administration to be able to
properly guide you to "configure multicast" if it is not working
properly. Even if they did, we wouldn't know what your administrator
might have done or why they did what they did so it is generally best to
get your Unix administrators involved because they really (should) have
the knowledge of the machine's configuration.
We do, however, provide a Java utility program called
utils.MulticastTest that can help you to determine whether or not
multicast is working correctly on your machine.
Hope this helps,
Robert

How do I back up the calendar and contacts from my iPhone5 to my new macbook pro(10.8.3)? I have backed up the phone, but it does not transfer the calendar or the contacts. If I check them in the sync area and then back up the phone again will they transfer or be erased? I am a bit gun shy since my previous macbook pro committed suicide and I lost a ton of info there.
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer.

I'm trying to back up 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and all my files before upgrade to Mavericks. I have an old but sturdy external hard drive...how many GB available will I probably need to back up the whole thing? thanks!
You will need a separate partition unless you plan to use the entire drive. You will need an amount of space somewhat larger than the total space now used on your startup drive. If you select the startup drive's Desktop icon, then press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Used space will be shown in the topmost panel. Add a GB or two to that number to determine how much space you'll need for the backup.
Do not backup on a drive that has any files you want to keep. You can make a bootable backup as follows:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive. -
How do you "Unsort" a column to get it back to the way it was when you opened it?
How do you "Unsort" a column to get it back to the way it was when you opened it?
I like to sort by price or alphabetical etc but then I want to return the cells to where they were and I can't figure out a way to do that.
For instance, the rows that don't matter so much like the ones that just describe what date is the follow are now all together and I want it back the way it was when I opened the document without losing any changes I've met to other things in the doc since I sorted.
Can anyone help with this?
Thanks.
TimHi fl2,
Adding to replies from Wayne and Barry. After you open that Numbers document, insert another column into a table before you sort it. The column can be anywhere in that table. Here is Column A (labelled "Original") that I inserted. It has numbers in sequence (1, 2, 3...)
As Barry said, these must be numbers, not the results of a formula.
Now you can sort by any column to your heart's delight and always go back to the original order by sorting that table by column A.
Regards,
Ian. -

Someone hacked my computer and set up a new administrative account by re-registering my computer. I can not access this account nor delete it. How can I fix this and get my computer back to the way it was? And also prevent this from being able to happen again. I have the link the kid used (http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/05/how-to-hack-the-user-password-in-mac-os-x-wit hout-an-os-x-cd/) Apparently he used hack 2. HELP PLEASE!
Not sure why you can't delete that account. If you have admin privileges, you should be able to. Sounds like you only removed the Home Folder for that account.
You should highlight/select the account you want to remove and then click the minus button. Might need to unlock the padlock with your admin password.

StraightTalk is not a supported carrier... not all features may work. -
E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER after I switched from authorized by computer to authorized by ID on the same book, how can I open open that same book? I downloaded the book again, reinstalled the digital edition but no help? If anybody can answer that would be a great help.
Hi Shreya,
That answer seems to work in purchased books but in my case I dont know who is the ebook provider in lebrary. I asked library people and they did not give me any contact to reset the activation. I will try again to find out that contact. I was wondering if there is any way at our side so we can fix this. Probably there is nothing. Thanks anyway. -
HT4946 How do I get what is on my devices back onto the computer?
My Ipod, Ipad 2 each are working fine but my computer died and new OS installed, the computer is now blank, I downloaded Itunes onto the computer. How do I get what is on my devices back onto the computer?
Thanks,
CraigSync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

Take note that sharepod does not support iPad at the moment. -
How to setup startup script in Solaris 10
Could anyone point me out how to setup a startup script at run level 3 or 2 in solaris 10 ?
Any previous solaris such as 9, 8, I just write a script and put in /etc/init.d/, then link it to run level 3 or 2. But in solaris 10 is different now.
I could not find any in the manual.

Any previous solaris such as 9, 8, I just write a
script and put in /etc/init.d/, then link it to run
level 3 or 2. You can do the same thing in Solaris 10.
But in solaris 10 is different now. There are alternative methods that are recommended (creating a service via a manifest file), but the old startup stuff still works just fine. You don't get the benefits of monitoring and fine-grained dependencies with the legacy startup scripts.
I could not find any in the manual. An older doc is http://mediacast.sun.com/share/bobn/SMF-migrate.pdf. You might also check the SMF FAQ.
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/smf/faq/ Section 4 is on manifest development.
